Jing's is an upscale Chinese restaurant in Mount Pleasant/Midtown. I went with my husband to try out the lunch specials. The staff was friendly and helped explain how the lunch deal works. I ended up ordering the: Wonton soup, incl mini mushrooms - the broth was flavourful, served piping hot, wontons have some veggies in them. General tao - rice slightly seasoned but in the drier side which is fine with the main dish. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the sauce the sweet and savory. I enjoyed this quite a bit Cold roll - mango, lettuce, carrot, radish and peanut sauce. Tasty! Lots of sauce to roll ratio Beef ho fun - big noodles, soft not overcooked. Seasoning was pleasant, healthy beef serving Ha gow +$2.5 - tasty but overall pretty standard, wrap to filling ratio a bit off, not worth paying extra in lunch combo They did also have an incredible Peking duck lunch special but it does require a minimum spend which we were not able to hit with just the two of us. I suggest bringing a group of 4 if you wish to take advantage of the Peking Duck Special! read more

I've been so curious about this spot after randomly watching some videos on Instagram. This time, they have a half-pecking duck promotion ($15.99 for $50+ spending). So I went there with friends and had a chance to try several dishes too. It was a bit quiet when I visited (it was the day with stormy heavy rain), and fortunately we've got full attention from the staff. We were pleasantly surprised by how all dishes taste so good, not to mention the pecking duck. My favourite of the day was steamed black cod, and Super chicken lettuce wrap appetizer is must-order :) Portion was pretty generous too, especially considering the price range (in this economy!) We ordered the Peking duck set menu for four ($128), which came with a whole Peking duck, duck lettuce wraps, an appetizer platter, General Tao chicken, stir-fried veggies (we had bok choy), and mango pudding for dessert. The restaurant doesn't mainly serve a traditional Chinese crowd--it draws a more mixed, diverse crowd. Even the servers weren't Chinese, but the cooks are, and you can tell from the food. The flavours reminded me of the real deal, with a few modern or pan-Asian touches, like the skewers and General Tao chicken, that definitely cater to a more Western palate. I actually like the different skewer apps, it adds variety to the meal. The bok choy is also cooked perfectly. I know there's this perception that Chinese food should be cheap and it's not perfect, but honestly, for around $32 per person, the amount and quality of food we got felt like a great deal especially in the Leaside area. We had some left overs to spare. It was a full-on feast and I'll be happy to return. Overall, it was a solid meal. Came here for Father's Day lunch and Jing Chinese restaurant became everyone's new family spot for Peking duck! The restaurant is very clean and nice with very modern Chinese decor, the staff were super patient and pleasant with explaining the different menu options. We were a party of 6 and we ordered: The 4 person combo (with an upgrade so that the appetizer served for 6 people): - Appetizer starter - 8.5/10 - Coconut fried shrimp, fried spring roll, mango salad and sliced brisket - Peking duck - 9/10 - highlight of the entire meal, duck was crispy with light and thin wraps to go with it - 2lb lobster - 8.5/10 - their happy hour lobster (15$ per pound) was served Hong Kong style and it was really tasty. I believe this restaurant is fairly new, so I would like to say bravo to the team for their amazing operational skill. This restaurant has two levels of setting area, and they were both packed! They are currently running a Peking duck promotion for $49 until the end of February 2025! I would highly recommend making a reservation! The following were ordered: 1. Two course Peking duck set - extremely fresh and tasty, but only comes with 6 pancake. Soup is also extra cost, $3/person 2. 生煎包 - very mediocre, the skin was thick and chewy 3. 蝦餃 ha gow - on the smaller size, tasted like frozen dim sum from the grocery store I would come back for their Peking duck, and to try other dinner dishes. When we go to the supermarket, we get so much duck (even if it's with bones), but here, it doesn't seem like they gave us everything (yes, there's the second course, which is on top of the rice cracker noodles, but still seems off) Otherwise, service was a lil slow, but good. Get the Peking duck! It's so crispy and they have a nice table side presentation. We took advantage of the promotion recently based off a recommendation from a colleague. You can checked their Instagram for their current promotions! We enjoyed every dish we ordered but particularly loved the duck wraps and second course lettuce wraps. Sometimes when you order Peking duck, it can be fatty and not crispy, this was perfect! The restaurant was modern and cozy however space is limited so make sure you make a reservation! The service was very friendly and attentive, we appreciate the attention. They provide new plates and cutlery when necessary, napkins and refill your water constantly. My party ordered the peking duck combo which included the classic crepe wraps and lettuce wraps. I enjoyed it since the skin was crispy and the crepes were thin (won't over stuff you). Extra wraps, toppings and sauce will incur a $3-6 charge, but typically aside from wraps, other chinese restaurants don't charge extra. The noodle, rice, and stir fried pork dish were just okay in quality and in smaller portions than I expected. The space upstairs felt crowded but the waiters were friendly. * I am a Xiao Long Bao (XLB) enthusiast, so, I ordered their XLB (take-out) only, and my review is solely on their XLB. Thus my review is extremely limited. I learned that this relatively new restaurant has XLB on the menu! Visited this restaurant in the mid afternoon (during off-peak hrs). So, the restaurant is quiet getting ready for the dinner patrons. The interior/exterior is elegant, blending into the surrounding neighborhood's atmosphere. XLB came with one skin torn :(. However, the skin itself has natural flavor, and apparently hand pleated. The soup has slightly stronger soy sauce flavor but had depth. Overall, the soup, meat and wrapper integration was good. Rating: XLB itself is 3.75 but the presentation (leaf underneath) boosted the score up to 4 :). Assumed that this restaurant pays careful attention to, not only the taste of food itself but also its aesthetic presentation. This is the great introduction to this restaurant, making me want to try more items in this restaurant, next time, eat-in! read more

To be honest we didn't have high hopes for this spot given the location on Bayview, but it was still a decent meal for the price. My partner is convinced that the chef must be Indonesian because to her it tastes exactly like Chinese food back in her come country. To me it definitely tasted like usual Americanized Chinese...but better ?? We initially walked in and thought it was a very small establishment but then the server showed us tk the second floor and we were very surprised at how diverse the staff was, which was very positive. The interior is pretty much any old Chinese restaurant but without the yelling staff. We ordered several plates of proteins and it was so filling. I wish I had a bigger stomach for everything because the duck was So crispy (and it was served with the wraps, sauces, cucumber, and green onion). They cut the duck in front of you and serve the outer parts, then they take the remaining duck back to cook the rest of the dark meat for lettuce wraps. The sauce with the lemon chicken tasted so bright without the fake bright lemon colour and the batter was crunchy. The beef was tender and fresh. The sweet and sour fish wasn't my favourite but I also don't tend to like that sauce flavour - I do recommend this if you really like sweet and sour anything though, it's very reminiscent of westernized Chinese food, it's just not my favourite. The noodle was super crunchy but once it hits the sauce it becomes softer - I liked that contrast, it added another layer of texture. The wonton soup was great as a starter to whet my appetite (not bad for 5 dollars also! Would bring my family and larger friend groups here but if you decide to come here, book a reservation because the place fills up fast. read more

10/10 Highly recommend coming here if you're looking for authentic Beijing Chinese dishes! I went with my family and we absolutely loved it. I saw they were having a peking duck promotion in the neighbourhood and I had try. The staff were really attentive and the decoration provided a nice ambience. We went around 11am when it wasn't busy but around 12pm it started getting crowded so I recommend booking a reservation for guaranteed seating. They have an upstairs as well. The peking duck was absolutely delicious and came with crunchy skin with the option to dip sugar - which is super authentic to China which I was surprised they had which I haven't seen in Toronto. The lobster was really large with lots of meat inside. I loved how they provided gloves, tools, and moist toilettes - really appreciate the forward thinking. The chicken spring rolls were super delicious and the sweet & sour chicken was the best I've ever had - very crispy and fresh. The mango dessert was a nice finish as well. The only feedback I have is the bok choy wasn't cooked enough for me - I prefer it less crunchy and with more flavouring. Came here after all the amazing videos of their Peking duck surfaced. There's a really good promo going so we took advantage of that. I was dining with a baby, I called and made a reservation ensuring we could use their high chair. Upon arriving, the waitress spent a good 5 minutes grilling us on the fact that any high chair would get in the way of their duck carts and just stood there telling us to move. But there wasn't any table to move to so we just shuffled to the middle and shrugged because what else were we supposed to do? Duck was presented nicely and sliced tableside. Duck was dry, not horrible dry but definitely not remotely moist. The crepe were thick and hard, the condiments included cucumbers which had been cut a long time ago because they too were all dried up. The wrapper/pastry was a little thicker than I usually have but the flavours were great. The scallion chicken dish we had, served on a hot plate, was nicely done. I might say a little more on the bland or low key side but nice quality white meat and well presented. It got tastier as the onions continued to cook on the hot plate. The crispy beef dish was very crispy! Had a nice sweet sauce in it... Well done dish. None was I'd say authentic but tasty. For dessert we had some deep fried bananas, super crispy and light... There were so many red flags to this restaurant. I will list them out so you don't have to come and experience it yourself. I had a reservation for 5 people and the restaurant sat us at a corner of the restaurant on the 2nd floor, where it was supposed to be for a table of four people. The table was super squished and it was right beside the kitchen as well. The staffs kept walking by and hitting us as we were eating. First red flag, but they really should not be seating people there at all. During our first interaction, my family and I had to wave down one of the employees to let them know that we wanted to order. I guess she overheard us talking about how squished we were at the table. Before we were even able to order, she yelled at us saying "We have no room and cannot move you to another reserved table". I had to clarify with her that we knew and we just wanted to order, but she was extremely rude to us. Second red flag. Honestly we should have ran this point. We ordered their well known Peking duck set because of the social media rave. Because we were seated at the corner of the restaurant, she was going to initially do the Peking duck carving away from us, which I thought defeated the purpose of the whole experience. We had to negotiate to get her to put it up on the counter to carve it for us. To put the cherry on the top too, one of my family member had to sit aside in order to see the carving. This is another reason why this table should not even exist for guests. Third red flag, but at this point, we were too far in to leave. As well, the Peking duck combo says it is the whole duck, but I felt like the lettuce wrap part didn't have much meat. It was on top of a pile of rice cracker. Fourth red flag, but not certain where the whole duck went to be honest. As we were finishing our meal, our family was just talking over our dinner. One of the staff proceeds to come and take away only two people's dishes. We were not even done our meals yet. My husband had to use my cutlery to eat the rest of the food on the table... Fifth red flag. You can even see in the picture, he was using my cutlery to eat the lobster. We honestly felt rushed to leave at this point. We were waiting for our dessert that was a part of the meal. Honestly at this point, I felt like the staff was not going to give us our house dessert if I didn't intentionally asked for it. Sixth red flag and yes, I'm clearly blind at this point. Needless to say, I will not be coming back to this restaurant. The food was fine, but because of the terrible service, my family and I just left with a distasteful feeling. What a sad way to ruin a possibly good Asian spot in midtown. read more

A small, beautiful restaurant with suppppper delicious food priced at a reasonable price and knowledgeable staff! My friend and I went there for the Peking duck and it was absolutely delicious! They cut up the Peking duck right by your table and it was definitely worth the money--super juicy and crispy! The Mapo tofu was definitely my favourite item, besides the Peking duck of course. It was a bit spicy, but super soft and flavourful. If you're going to get it, get it with some rice (plain rice works!) 100% would order the Mapo tofu again (and will definitely do so in the future). The fried rice and the lettuce wraps were also good! The lettuce wraps actually came with the Peking duck so it was a nice added bonus to our meal Definitely would come back again and would order everything again + try new items. Finally a really great authentic Chinese restaurant in the Leaside area! The current options in the area are extremely underwhelming but I will not say their names. Waited for over 20 years for this to happen but it's finally here! Prayers do come to fruition. The name Jing is a play on Beijing according to the server. Jing just opened. The place is nicely decorated including a tasteful second floor where you can have a small event such as a wedding, graduation, birthday, retirement, or just reserve it for a drinking fest as there's a bar there. Bringing a disco ball and endless tracks of Saturday Night Fever would help. I'm going to do a more in-depth review (that's if I don't forget) but for now, all I can say is the Peking Duck is EPIC! If you have never eaten this, you need to. You will never eat regular roasted duck again! At least I won't. The crispy skin is spectacular. There is currently a special opening Peking duck deal for I think $89 or $98. Can't remember the first digit. The special includes a whole duck that's sliced up in front of you (she didn't cut herself), along with crystal lettuce wrap with pork, and three dim sum selections. A fantastic deal but I believe it ends in a week so hurry up. Cheers for now and I will be back (for you Arnold - Terminator fans) soon for a more detailed update. New Chinese restaurant opening on Bayview in Leaside in the former California Roll restaurant location. I always wondered why there was no Chinese dim sum option on this stretch of Bayview and finally it has arrived. Nice interior renovation with marble top tables and comfortable tables and booths. Great for small groups and families. Love the modern decor and table dishes and cutlery. There is a grand opening special Peking duck two course meal with 3 dim sum menu selections and also lobster meal set. Tried the Peking set and it was fantastic. Peking duck roasted to perfection and hand carved table side with all the accompaniments. The crepes were just the right number for the set. Second course lettuce wrap was amazing with remaining duck meat and crispy vegetables and fried vermicelli with the right amount of crunch. Dim sum options limited but good selection. We tried the Shanghai steam dumpling, fried calamari, and the suggested shrimp almond balls. Everything tasted great. Not your healthiest lunch but very tasty nonetheless. Service was attentive and excellent. Would like to see more options on the menu. Overall lovely addition to the bayview locale. See you next time. read more

It is a welcome delight to have such a wonderful Chinese restaurant in our neighbourhood from the decor, food, friendly and knowledgeable service, tableware to the extra napkins, bib and wet wipes needed after our lobster dinner (without asking). We ordered General Tao chicken, broccoli and snap peas and the lobster special (different ways to choose from of preparing it) which came with three choices of dim sum. Everything was delicious! Absolutely delicious! We visited fairly early after their opening, but even so, everything was well executed. We decided we wanted to try several things, but it was only two of us, so we chose the "Appetizer Tower", which genuinely is a tower - three tiers tall with roughly four pieces each of ten menu items, plus some dipping sauces. It's a lovely variety, from crispy tofu to squid tentacles to peanut dumplings. It would be a perfect table starter for 4-6 people. We also ordered Jing's Special Prawns, which were absolutely amazing. A kick of spice but not too spicy, lovely flavor, and perfectly cooked shrimp inside. Served on a bed of crispy french fries also tossed in the sauce, which sounds strange but was super enjoyable! We are not Chinese, so cannot attest to authenticity, but we can definitely say everything we tried was delicious and we will be going back to try more.
