Went for dim sum at Legend Chinese Restaurant. This is one of our relatives go to spot in Thornhill. They charge $2.45/person for tea but offer 10% off when you pay with cash. Dim sum prices are reasonable; $5.29 to $9.89. - Ha kow ($7.59) - Siu mai ($6.49) - Ha cheung ($8.69) - Lo bak go ($6.49) - Spareribs with dried oyster congee ($8.69) - Pan fried eggplant & green pepper with minced shrimp ($8.69) - not the usual style. My least favourite dish that we tried - Steamed pork wrapped bean curd in soup ($7.59) - Deep fried black sesame filling balls ($6.49) Standard dim sum fare at LCR.
Came here for dim sum and tried a few dishes. The best one by far was the chive & shrimp pan-fried dumplings - really tasty and flavorful. Other items were more on the average side. The congee had a bit of a fishy taste, and the marinated beef strips also had a slight aftertaste. One nice thing is that if you place your order before 11am, you get around 13% off. The dining area is fairly spacious, though the interior does feel a little dated. Service was friendly and decent overall.
(also posted on Google) I was here with a big group, so we had one of the large round tables in the back. There was no wait around 11 AM on a Saturday - score! By the time we left, there were people waiting at the door. Service was good. Food was good. Price came out to be $30 CAD per person. I enjoyed the dishes we ordered - siu mai, har gow, ha cherng (shrimp and beef), chow fun, chicken feet, and others I don't know the names. XD For dessert, the egg tarts and salted egg yolk bread were really good. They have a check list menu, so it may be better to know the names of what you want. Otherwise you have to reference the menu book with photos or look at pictures online. I'd come back!

For comparison each dim sum is priced at the following: - small: $5.29 - medium: $6.49 - large: $7.59 - xl: $8.69 - so: $9.89 Overall, good place to go for a dim sum craving.
Went there for dinsum today. Open at 10 and if you leave by 11:30 and pay cash, no tax. Service good, variety good, price medium, food ok, wash rooms clean. Lots of parking.
We hadn't been here since the pandemic since it had been closed the whole time. It's located along with other restaurants and a supermarket. Parking is pretty convenient and free. In this occasions we had dim sum. There is early bird before 11ish and it's 13% off. I did find the menu selection is limited so just be aware, they focus on the classic dim sum items. Food: Siu mai - decently meaty with good shrimp. Was quite juicy. 4/5. Vegetable rice roll - good amount of vegetables that were flavorful and the rice roll seemed fresh. 4/5. Pan fried shrimp dumpling - shrimp is huge! Thin won ton skin with the crispy side is amazing. Must try! 5/5 Beef ball - came out piping hot with good beef flavor. 3.5/5. Glutinous rice with country meat and salted egg - I enjoyed this one with the sticky rice and the various meats. The egg adds a nice saltiness and they give you sugar if you want to make it sweeter. 3.5/5. Sticky rice with minced pork in lotus leaf - a bit of a disappointment. Tiny amount of minced pork and lots of rice but there's only 2 pieces per order and they're really small. Don't recommend. 1/5. Chicken feet - decently tender, good flavor. 3/5. Bbq pork bun - another classic that hits the spot. Decent amount of filling to bun ratio 3.5/5. Ginger milk curd - comes out piping hot, has a nice ginger flavor without being overpowering and a subtle milk flavor. 4/5. Pan fried Eggplant and peppers stuffed with shrimp. The shrimp is again huge and delicious. The veges are cooked well too. 4.5/5 Walnut pudding - this one was pretty sweet but is offset with the bitterness of walnut. It does come with a layer of candied walnuts which reminds me of a creme brûlée almost. 3.5/5. Deep fried taro ball - generous layers of smooth taro around a meat center. The deep fried layer is thin and crispy and not overly heavy. Price is comparable to other dim sum places. With early bird, it's pretty good.
As a dim-sum restaurant (can't comment on their regular menu), this place is not bad, but don't visit expecting food comparable to the top notch Markham dim-sum places. Some of the dishes taste like the frozen ones you can get directly from distributors, likely not freshly made (more common than you think). The price is lower than our favorite dim sum places though so they've got that going for them. If you do plan a visit, they have an earlier bird special before 11 as well as a cash discount (though our waitress hesitantly said they do not stack).
It is rare to find a Dim Sum Restaurant in this area of the city. Legend was great. Very good variety of Dim Sum, reasonably priced and everything was delicious. We had a variety of DIM SUM and the XO sauce Ribs. For the price of the ribs I wouldn't purchase again.. they were just okay... the dumplings and shrimp rolls were my favorite.
Good Southern style Chinese food. We go here often for dim sum on the weekends. Tried dinner on a Monday night when it was not busy, and food and service was great.
The best authentic Cantonese restaurant you can find in the GTA. It's our family favorite spot for family gathering. Customer service here is exceptional, we love this place! P/S: First time coming back since Covid and we feel very comfortable and safe dining in!
They really save on labor here. Patrons fill out a sheet for what items they want and the food gets delivered rather than having dim sum ladies walk around and push trucks. The foods dont look like mass produced items in factories. MSG free! We ordered all the traditional dim sum menu items, and more! We got shrimp ball, siu mai, steamed pork, cow belly, egg rolls, crispy shrimp rolls, shrimp and beef rice noodle wraps, grilled beef, eggplants stuffed with shrimp steamed chicken over rice. For the eggplants stuffed with shrimp, it usually comes with a platter which includes peppers. We asked to only get it with eggplant. It was pretty good. The egg tarts here are amazing. Super fluffy. I could eat 2 plates of it. Everything else here was average, except for price. Lots of parking outside. I expected this place to be packed because my aunt spoke so highly of it. We called in for a reservation, but at 10:30am, it was still empty. We ended up getting a huge table (for 12) on stage where the wedding hosts normally sit. It was hard to get the waiters' attention even from on stage I can't imagine how much of a struggle it must be being at a regular table.
The dim sum is very tasty. We came for my boyfriend's birthday, in a party of 4 on a Saturday at lunch. The restaurant was very busy and seems to have a good reputation. The food was delicious perhaps a bit expensive. The service was fast however they required multiple requests for drinks, so we had only tea to drink when ice water would have been nice given the salty foods. Be aware that the tea is not complimentary as we were used to most places, but $7.80 for the pot which was a surprise at the end of the meal. We loved the short ribs, turnip cake and shrimp stuffed eggplant most.
This restaurant has been around for quite a long time, and my friend lives nearby and goes there all the time Today, we decided to give it a try and ordered a few dishes she recommended. The fried squid, fried green beans, chicken feet, and beef rice rolls were all quite tasty The fried dumplings, however, were not as good as the ones I can buy at the grocery store The fried meatballs were below average too--the skin was just too thick. Service was good and food was decent. They seemed to have all-day dim sum, as we were presented with 3 different menus upon being seated on the table: main menu (large dishes), dim sum menu on paper, and a small card containing 3 items on special that day. The restaurant was packed and it was a bit hard to get a hold of a server at times, but their service was pretty good overall given the speed, ability to customize some menu items, and attentiveness. We ordered the Scallops with Vegetables, and we got to choose what type of vegetables we wanted (usually we don't get to choose in other Chinese restaurants). We opted for choy sum, but we also could've chosen from a selection of mixed vegetables, bok choy, snow peas, mushrooms, etc. Surprisingly, the scallops came as jumbo scallops. I was expecting smaller-sized scallops like in other Chinese restaurants. The dish was tasty and I could taste the ginger. Seafood and Garlic Fried Rice was alright - no different than those in other similar restaurants. The rice was quite dry and there were small pieces of shrimps and scallops in the mix. read more
Tip: The eight-course meal is excellent. My best friend asked me if I'd like to go for dim sum with his family after his mom's funeral. I had forgotten that it was customary after a Chinese funeral (his mom was Chinese and her husband was Vietnamese) to have something to eat after a funeral. I was moved that he was thinking of me during a difficult time. I said yes. He got his niece to get me the address of the restaurant. She conveniently had a business card, which made it easy. I saw Legend Chinese Restaurant. I put it into my maps app, and drove my friend and me over there. He insisted that I drive him. Maybe my company provided him comfort. I know that the reverse was true. It was nice to spend some more time catching up with him as we headed northbound. This eatery is in a plaza with Red Lobster across from it. We had dined there together eons ago. There was lots of parking. I backed into a spot and we walked over to the restaurant. A woman greeted us. Both of us wearing black made her realize that we were a part of a larger group that had come from a funeral. She pointed us into a closed area with wall dividers that separated us from the rest of the customers chowing down. We didn't have dim sum. Instead, we had an eight-course meal. I had never dined here, so I was looking forward to what we were about to eat. Each table had to make one seat space open for the server to come with food. I happened to be next to this gap. It has its pros and cons. I helped move dishes and such to make way for new dishes to arrive. Our server did spill some water on the table, but it wasn't crazy. I loved the lazy Susan. Our table had eight people. It was needed to get to whatever we wanted on it. We had hot looseleaf tea and hot water in tea pots. The tea was yummy, but I had no clue what it was. We ended up pouring the hot water into the looseleaf tea pot when we were running low. Our server was also great to refill the pot with the looseleaf tea a number of times. We got the following items during our meal: - Roasted pork - Shrimp and scallop soup - Chicken - Sweet and sour pork - Shrimp and scallops with sugar snaps - Steamed fish - Mushrooms with baby bok choy - Tofu pudding - Fortune cookies Half our table were vegetarians, so almost everything wasn't suitable, except for the tofu pudding. Folks at the table were kind to let me take photos of most dishes before we wrecked them, except for the vegetarian tofu vegetable medley that came out. They were so hangry that they simply went in. I have a mental picture of the generous rectangles of tofu, with mushrooms and baby bok choy. There may have been more veggies. I was happy that they could finally eat! We started with the roasted pork. It was excellent. The pork was succulent. The pork skin was crispy. Delicious! I loved the shrimp and scallop soup. It had small cubes of shrimp and baby scallops in a nice broth. The large bowl of soup sat next to me. It was deadly. I love soup. No one wanted seconds, so I polished it all. The chicken was tender. It was nice with the scallion oil. My friend and I remarked that the sweet and sour pork was excellent. It's probably because we are so used to chicken as the protein. The pork was crispy even with the sweet and sour sauce coating each morsel. The pork was tender. I loved the bell pepper and the pineapple chunks. The shrimp and scallops with sugar snaps was divine. I love sugar snaps and they were perfectly cooked while still crispy. The shrimp and scallops were large and yummy. I grew up with my mom steaming an entire fish. It's dealing with the bones that is annoying. Thankfully, a man at our table went ahead and portioned out the fish such that he eliminated most of the bones. Wow! Can I have this man de-fillet any fish that I want to eat?! The fish was naturally yummy from the steaming method. I loved the green onions on top and the soy-based sauce. I love mushrooms. The fact that we had an assorted mushroom dish with baby bok choy was awesome! Sadly, there was oyster sauce in this dish, so the vegetarians couldn't enjoy it with us. There were two different types of mushrooms. The large ones were meaty. The smaller ones were yummy, but difficult to pick up with chopsticks. I ended up eating them with a soup spoon. There was steamed rice at our table. I had some with the mushroom sauce. It was delicious. We ended up with tofu pudding. We got to scoop the tofu out and then add the syrup. The tofu and syrup were warm. It was a delightful dessert that wasn't all that sweet. We got a large bowl of fortune cookies to end our meal. My fortune said that I tend to be straightforward and honest. My friend joked that my fortune was completely wrong... haha! I used the washroom before I headed home. The women's washroom was clean. No complaints. I loved the food here. It was top-notch delicious. It was comforting and much needed. I'd love to have dim sum here and see what that's like. (413) read more

Rice noodles were slightly overcooked. The char Siu and BBQ duck were tasty. Bean curd rolls were cooked to the perfect spot. Fried taro dumplings were cut to halves. The meat stuffing was dry and overpowered by garlic chives. And it's hard to get any services. Poor experience overall. read more

We came back to Legend restaurant for a big dinner and while both the service and food were good, a HUGE disappointment was not fully honoring the VIP card. The card was supposed to give us 10% off our meal, however they only gave us 10% off select items which is not fine print on the VIP card, in the menu, or explained to us in advance. It ended up only honoring the VIP card for half of the dinner items. Also, who decides what receives 10% off? To nickel and dime customers really speaks to the restaurant's management style and leaves a horrible bitter taste, especially at the end of the meal. There are many other equally good and better Chinese restaurants in Toronto to go to instead. read more

So I cam here for Mother's Day dinner with my family. I got here early and the parking situation is still acceptable. This has nothing to do with the venue, but rather the property management. Back to the restaurant. This place has been around for some time. The interior is typical Chinese restaurants, no modern renovations but just simplicity and pragmatic. Food is okay, as we ordered a big family dinner for 10. However, I find the pacing of dishes came out uneven times: There were no banquets going on nor big parties aside from ours. Yet the timings were a bit off to be honest. Anyhow, food tasted okay. Can't really screw up a set dinner menu. However, back to the venue. My party of 10 were stuffed into a small party room. So air ventilation was sub-par. So this can be an improvement on the owner's to improve air circulation. So my experience here was just "OK". read more

Thanks for Edwin A for organizing the UYE!! It is hard to believe that I never been to Legend Chinese Restaurant until now. Dim Sum always fun when going with a group... I almost want to check everything off the list! "I want to try this! I want that! You guys would love it!!" I just want my dim sum!! Everything we ordered taste great! Maybe because I have great companions? All the usual dim sum were all done nicely here. I love the Baked Tapioca Pudding with Walnut the best.. since it was freshly prepared when ordered, so it took awhile to arrive... BTW, this is the first time that I got so overloaded with Sui Mai and Deep Fried Taro!! Imagine 3 orders each for 5 people?? read more
3.5/5 Dim sum, I agree, is one of the best I've had in terms of optimal value. However, I also ordered fried chicken noodle, which was a disappointment...the noodles had this water taste to it which was somewhat awkward. Service was a hit and miss until we recognized one of the waiters who used to work at Paradise (one of my more frequented restaurants for a long time). He gave us 10% off, which was really nice of him considering I haven't seen him for 3 years now. I'll come back if I'm ever in the area again. read more

The restaurant had cut the size into half and rented the other half to another Korean restaurant. The service is good, very attentive. However, the price is quite expensive and the food quality is average. We have a dinner on Sunday and only half full. read more
One of my favourite dim sum places located on Yonge and Steele's. It is definitely worth it for the price you pay. It does get a little pricey on some items compared to other dim sum places further East from there. I don't get dim sum often but this is my go-to spot. The place itself is nice and clean, the set up is like any other Chinese dim sum place. They tend to do weddings in the evening. Most of the staff are friendly, they greet you when you walk in and you get seated almost right away if its not busy. All the dim sum foods there are so yummy, there's not one bad item that I have tried so far. Overall, I highly recommend this place for morning tea, and will definitely be back! read more

DON'T ORDER THE PEKING DUCK IF YOU ARE VERY HUNGRY! VERY MISLEADING PORTION SIZE! I came here while in town for a family wedding. I ordered the whole peking duck for $43 thinking it would be enough for 4 adults... sadly it was not. Instead the wait staff brought a out a small square plate of duck pieces that were definitely well short of a whole duck. It was maybe a quarter of a duck at most. You can see in my pic that there are no legs or thighs included. A lot of the pieces were just skin as well, no meat. Maybe I've been spoiled with my previous experiences of Chinese restaurants that serve duck in the past, but I've always been used to places cutting the duck in front of you. Here they just bring it out to you in a square plate already cut up. Really felt they they were hiding the actual portion size. When I voiced my concern and disappointment about the misleading portion size to the wait staff and manager, they didn't even acknowledge my point of view just talked over me and argued back saying "This is a whole duck!" and just dropped off my bill and walked away. I am giving one star as the duck did have good flavor but the misleading portion size and rudeness from the staff left me with a bad feeling of being ripped off and disrespected. Sadly I will not go back if I visit the Toronto area again. read more

Prices updated This is a convenient location for NorthYorkers to have dim sum if we don't feel like driving all the way to markham. I found a piece of plastic in my food. But before that I was thoroughly enjoying my experience. Also, their 蘿白糕 is not what I expected. It's steamed. It's an okay place for a dim sum craving if you live in the area. read more
This was my first authentic Chinese restaurant. I was so overwhelmed by it being authentic that my boyfriend ordered for us. We were served the beef & jelly fish, the pork & shrimp eggrolls, the chicken & pork dim sum, pork & shrimp puffs. Everything was fresh and piping hot. When I say piping hot, I mean it remained that way even as we ate, the temperature never dropped once! The puffs were good, however were sweeter than I expected. Given that, I used the chili paste and hot mustard to get it to the savory/hot flavor I expected. The shrimp & pork eggrolls... It's almost like I'd never had an egg roll before. It's full with meat and very little cabbage. The pork was so flavorful. The only downside is the service: Your meal is served in a random order and communication/eye contact by your server is absent. If you can get over these things then your meal will be enjoyable. I'd definitely come again. read more
As far as dim sum places go this one seems to be fairly middle of the road. It's a very solid bet if you're in the area and we had no complaints at all when we went. The food is good. We ordered about 8 dishes (including the usual dim sum staples of various shrimp and pork dumplings), and while nothing stood out as truly amazing, they were all quite decent. The one dish I will recommend if you have a sweet tooth is the sesame balls. The outside has a nice sweet crunch and the inside has a more mellow, smooth paste. Eaten warm it's quite a treat. My friend and I each had one, and even though I was already pretty stuffed at that point, we split the last one too (it's best eaten when it's hot right? Anything else would just be irresponsible). The service was also quite good. Everything was brought out to us extremely quickly and the staff were able to answer some of the questions we had. Enjoy your dim sum! read more

Living in Thornhill for a good portion of my life, I've visited this plaza on multiple occasions for the Italian bakery and Korean market, but I never thought to visit this restaurant. Craving dim sum one morning, my boyfriend and I visited Legend and we had a great experience. Upon arrival, we were seated in a private room (for just the two of us!) - unsure why, but it was a newer, quiet dim sum experience for us away from the hectic dining room environment that one normally would encounter at any dim sum restaurant. We ordered the standard dim sum plates like siu mai, har gow, sticky rice in a lotus leaf, fried dumplings, etc. But the freshly baked egg tarts really was the winner that day. They came out fresh from the oven so it took a while to arrive at our table, but we loved how fresh and warm they were. It's nice to know that there's an authentic dim sum restaurant close to home and that we no longer need to make the trek to Markham for decent dim sum. We will definitely come back. read more
One of the best dim sum I have ever had! This is my third time here, unfortunately, they did not have any specials anymore, but I'm glad I came, because the dim sum is THAT great. Coming in at 9:30am, we thought that seats will be taken already, but we were one of the earliest ones there. Prices are: S- $2.90 SM- $3.50 M- $3.95 L - $4.95 XL-$5.75 SP- $6.99 Food: 11) Steamed Pork Wrapped Bean Curd in Soup Delicious rolls. The bean curd was soft and soaked with delicious soup. There were three rolls in here, a little smaller in size than other dim sum restaurants, but definitely great quality. I think I tasted a piece of pork skin in there as well. 15) Steamed Sticky Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf There were two medium to small sized sticky rices in here. I thought this dish was sort of average, but I didn't think it was very fattening, which is a bonus. 18) Steam Shrimp Dumpling with Coriander and Chives This was delicious. I can't believe the chef BLENDED the coriander and mixed it as the skin of the dumpling, making the colour of the dumpling green. The skin was not think and the filling was fairly full with DELICIOUS shrimps. This didn't taste very oily either. 28) Steamed Vegetarian Rice Roll This was delicious as well, I loved the greens that were added. They were young greens, not hard to chew. I do wish that the soya sauce was warmed up before this is served though. 34) Baked Chicken Pie with Portuguese Sauce MY FAVOURITE dish. The chicken pie was delicious, not overbaked with cute fork lines on the top. The filling was my favourite park. This was FILLED with scrumptious and savoury Chinese styled Portuguese sauce. I was so surprised because the chicken pie wasn't very thick and yet this pie did not leak any sauce out. 36) Deep Fried Pork Mashed Taro Puff This was another one of their stuffed fillings. Absoloutely delighted to see fillings that are stuffed. It wasn't too oily, the taste is not too sweet or salty either, one of the more average dishes. Came here again recently for dinner on Mothers Day. Wasnt notified there was a special one page menu to order from as their regular decent priced menu wasnt available. Fine and all since it was a special day, however, after spending $230 for 5 people, the portions were so small we werent even full. Could haven gone to the Keg and spent less per person. Still giving a two star rating as their regular menu is quite decent. Also they handed out a rose to all mothers which was sweet. read more
