A chain ramen shop isn't normally a preferred dining choice. However, if it's JINYA, it's a ya. Service is top notch. I appreciate they have three vegetarian ramen options. Flying V Harvest was fantastic. I drank that broth like I just came out of the Sahara. So good. The Impossible meat fusion is a funny add but a good protein bump. It was a few days ago but I think I'm still full from that ramen bowl. The vibe is modern high ceiling bumping music; my in-laws found it to be too loud. I think they are giving you an excuse to lean in and get a little closer to your companion. The vibe is chic yet also casual so bring whoever you want but this would work for date night. The font on the menus is squint inducing so do your research ahead of time or prepare to spend more time perusing the menu than usual, especially with the dim lighting. They offer thin or thick noodles and can mix some broth options to adjust spice level. Drinks- the smoked in front of your face whiskey is a treat and a show. Solid spot. No regrets. We decided we wanted ramen on a recent cold Houston night and went to one of our consistent places, JINYA. JINYA is located in the heart of midtown in a popular restaurant strip. Their ramen is flavorful and solid and their service is consistent. Parking: parking is free in the garage around the corner from JINYA. We went during the week and the garage was not packed. There's also paid street parking around the restaurant that you can find but look for signs to know when you have to pay and when you don't. Service: service here is very good. They have an army of waitresses and waiters who check on tables and we never had to ask for refills or never had to flag down someone. Our food came out in a timely manner. The one thing I will say about service is the appetizers we ordered came out right before our ramen so we had all of our food at one time which was a lot. I wish they would've spaced out the food timing a little more. Ambiance: JINYA has a modern interior and open concept. They have tables, booths, and 2 big community tables in the center of the restaurant. The restaurant playlist is hip and modern. The inside of the restaurant is dimly lit so if you have bad eyesight, get ready to use your flashlight to read the menu. Food: we ordered two ramens and the gyoza and edamame. Gyoza: these were fried well and had a gyoza sauce that came on the table. The wrapper was thin and they were not too oily. We would order this again. Edamame: this was typical edamame. Nothing too special. Would not get this again when we come back. Creamy Classic Tori-Paitian: this is a chicken ramen with wavy noodles that came with fried enoki mushrooms, chicken chasu, butter, spinach and a corn rib. This ramen was rich in flavor and had so many fun, delicious toppings. The corn run was grilled nicely and I wish I had more of them in my bowl. I'm a sucker for enoki mushrooms and this did not disappoint. I took the enoki mushrooms out of the ramen immediately so they didn't get soggy fast and that was the move if you want the mushrooms to stay crunchy. The chicken broth was rich and light which was a great combo. I finished this bowl to the last drop. JINYA Chicken Ramen: my girlfriend got the chicken ramen with a side of bamboo. Warning on the bamboo: the bamboo comes dressed in sesame oil and sole hot oil so they are a little spicy. The chicken ramen broth was once again rich with flavor and light. The chicken chase was good and this ramen comes with thin noodles instead of wavy noodles. Overall JINYA hits the spot when craving ramen or some hot soup on a cold day. The chicken broth is legit and I will be closing back to try the pork broth soon. My only qualm with JINYA is the price at over $17 per bowl of ramen. There are cheaper ramen places but JINYA flavor makes up for the priciness. read more

Consistently good ramen, even if not the most authentic place! I usually go with the spicy chicken ramen and always add a seasoned egg- which is always good! Recently, my bf and I tried the spicy tuna tacos, salmon poke tacos and Brussels sprouts tempura for apps. The spicy tuna ones were our faves . Jinya Ramen is to Japanese food what Chipotle is to Mexican food. It's not super authentic, it's very much a commercialized chain.... but it IS consistent. If you temper your expectations of eating super authentic Japanese style ramen, you can enjoy your meal here. I often go to the KFT or Feng Cha right next door so I stop in to Jinya beforehand. The food always tastes the same, I have never had a day where I got what I didn't expect. The staff are also always super friendly, authentic, and the food comes fast, so the service is A+++. That said, my main gripes are: 1. Portions are SMALL. I'm a very small-volume eater, which means I get full really fast on small portions, but after eating a bowl of ramen at Jinya, I still felt a little hungry. But the ramen was already $17!!! No way was I going to pay for more. 2. Spicy levels are almost nonexistent. There are three levels: mild, spicy, and hot. I can barely taste the spicy at spicy level, and "hot" would be what I would consider a "mild" at some other establishments. So if you're looking for genuinely spicy ramen, this is not the place. These gripes are not really anything that management can change, as they are a chain and have to adhere to portion sizing and recipes provided by corporate. If you're wanting consistency, this is your place. I never physically have eaten at Jinya so getting the full experience and aesthetics was great. It's beautifully designed and very modern. Gives a romantic upscale vibe even though I was there on a random afternoon wearing workout gear, single as hell. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful with the menu, special items and HH overview. I went with the Tan Tan Men and the chill sesame seeds or oil caught me off guard and tickled my throat pretty good. Yes to the spicy tuna tacos and skip the J. Girl. Jinya has always been one of my favorite places for ramen around town, and the Midtown location is my favorite out of all their locations around Houston area. I've been coming to this location for over 10 years, and the quality has always been super consistent and delicious. Being in Midtown, the restaurant definitely does get very packed, especially on the weekends, so it can get a bit difficult to find parking in the attached garage or the surrounding street parking if you go during busy hours. The tables/seats are a bit small and close together, so it does get pretty loud in the restaurant. The ambiance is dark and casual, and the servers are always friendly. For the foods, you really can't miss with whatever you order. There is a wide selection of ramen to choose from, and the broths are always super flavorful. You can customize the spice level, add additional toppings, and/or substitute the ramen noodle. My absolute favorite ramen are the Jinya Tonkotsu Black ramen and the Wonton Chicken Ramen. The six piece takoyaki is delicious and a solid appetizer. The sides and combos are a little bit or miss. the combos seem like a good value but the portions are small so I'm not sure they are worth it. e.g. eg the curry and salad for $11 is a small bowl of rice and a bit of basic Japanese curry and a bowl of house salad with a bit of ginger dressing. The service is reasonable. They get busy sometimes. Its a bit loud inside so its a little difficult to talk. The parking is a challenge. This place was so nice and food was so good. Now when I usually go get ramen I only will get the beef ramen because I don't eat pork. But they did not have any beef so I had to try the chicken. Now I'm usually skeptical on chicken because if they use breast it's usually dry. But when I tell you the chicken breast was tender as can be! Oh yes! It was so tender and the ramen broth was so tasty and complex in depth with flavor I could not believe it! I wanted medium spice but should have gotten the spiciest since it wasn't that spicy enough for me. I also added a seasoned egg which was an extra charge and fresh garlic which was free. That garlic made it even better! Our waitress was really great she explained the menu and was very helpful and answered all our questions that we had without any problems. She was very attentive which is hard to come by these days in restaurants with the younger people working. We all ordered I believe it was called the Samurai martini which was really good! A must get when you are there. The restaurant itself was very well done and really pretty. If I come again I will sit up at the bar at the front that where you are able to look outside and enjoy the view from the floor to ceiling glass windows. Came to JINYA for happy hour on a Sunday with a group of six and was pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. They've got a mix of small tables and bigger, communal-style ones, which worked out perfectly for our group. The lighting and overall vibe were really cool--modern but cozy. We started with the edamame and Brussels sprouts tempura to share. Both were solid apps, though I felt like the Brussels sprouts could've used a bit more punch flavor-wise. Still fun to snack on, especially with the variety of dipping sauces at the table. For my main, I went with the JINYA Tonkotsu Black--so good. The broth was rich and flavorful without being too heavy, the pork had great texture and taste, and the egg was jammy and nicely seasoned. Exactly what I was craving. Our server was super friendly and didn't miss a beat, even with a bigger group. And major props to them for being able to split the check--seriously, that's getting harder and harder to find these days, so it's always appreciated. And I don't even want to get into that debacle. So I decided to sit down and try it. Since I've eaten ramen in Japan several times, I understand that ramen is supposed to be eaten as a meal, it is a meal in Japan. Every topping costs extra money? The Ramen itself is hardly seasoned and the broth has absorbed all of the flavor and somehow is still bland as hell. How does it absorb all of the seasoning but still taste like watered-down broth. Your staff didn't even know what black garlic is!! Delivery, outside of the first order being just wrong. Like completely. The delivery options are truly laughble, you have to pay for basic ramen ingredients such as green onions, or regular garlic for your meal. Comes across as tone deaf, my katau ramen won't even get bok choy? And there's no guarantee that it's correct. Most of those delivery options mean nothing. The times I have ordered from here, for delivery. The order was incorrect. It's just very clear that when it comes to American ramen, this is the Pinnacle of Fast food + Ramen. The most American of American ramen that it can get. Americans don't look as Ramen as a meal, Americans will have full meals with a burger and fries but the concept of a noodle based meal in a bowl is just commercialized spectacle here. Jinya treats Ramen like a snack food. One can make better Ramen with Amazon, A pot and Milk. (Or water if your lactose). Don't waste your money here. This isn't Ramen. It's a farce. read more

It is also a really interesting interior as there is a really large table, so you can end up sitting next to others (but you still feel like you have your own space). The ramen was delicious, it wasn't too spicy (I'd probably go up a spice level next time), and the chicken was amazing!
