I reached out to Jose on what I believed was a dead king palm. Jose stopped by the same day I contacted him and confirmed my suspicion. He examined my other trees and plants to let me know what likely caused it to die and what I could do to keep my other trees from the same fate. J and J tree service cut down and removed two large trees for us. They came with the owner, Jose, and two other crew. They were fast, efficient and completed the large job, including stump grinding, in just one day. The only complaint I have is that they did not put tarps down and so the succulents nearby are flattened and trampled on now and also they put a gouge in our deck with their stump grinder. Picture included. For the damage, I give them four stars. However, they did a great job removing the trees so I would still recommend them. Just make sure you tell them to set up tarps or protective measures. Edited 10/23/19: Jose came out to the house almost immediately after my initial review and apologized and offered to fix the deck himself. We recently bought a house that has quite a lot of palm trees: Eleven queen palms, and one ketia palm. Over the past few weeks, several times, gardeners have come to our door, telling me that the palm trees needed to be trimmed, and their seed pods removed. They were correct. They gave me quotes for the work, but none of them were licensed or insured, and I didn't want to expose myself to liability if some one had an accident while trimming these trees, some of which are quite tall. So, I came to Yelp and looked for companies with high ratings, and which were licensed and insured. I got three quotes, all for doing the trimming without using spikes to climb the trees, because that damages the trunk, and (unlike some other types of tree) the wounds do not heal. All three quotes were significantly more expensive than the "door knocks" - which is fine, because insurance is expensive - and all three were in the same ballpark in terms of cost. All three people were very professional and friendly. I went with Jose because, unknown to me when I contacted him, he had trimmed the trees for the previous owner, so he was familiar with the property. Also, he told me that he had one of those "cherry picker" bucket/lift trucks, which made things substantially safer. So, I accepted his quote. He and his crew showed up on time, and did a fantastic job. They used the cherry picker for the tallest tree (see photo), but they also were able to put the boom and bucket over the top of one of our side fences, to trim four or five trees there, without using ladders. This was good, because those trees are on a fairly steep hill, with loose stones underneath, and I think using ladders might have been a bit risky. The bottom line is that Jose and his crew are professional, reliable, reasonably priced, and they did a wonderful job. Clean up was terrific too. BTW, Jose is a certified arborist, and he gave me good advice about our palms, and also about our six Strelizia nicolae (giant bird of paradise).
