I'm a loyal consumer when it comes to the service industry. I figure if you're happy with your past business then you should definitely keep them in mind. As such JK was not my "main" electrician contact. The electrician I have used in the past was all booked up on emergency cases. So I checked out the reviews online, made some phone calls, and had JK electric come out and give me a hand. The guy was genuinely nice, and was not trying to rip me off or take all day. He was in a rush! His fee was $70/hour, and for that you get to see him run around like a mad man in a dash to fix your problem as fast as possible. I had about 5 plug outlets unscrewed, a lighting fixture hanging from the ceiling, and a couple light switches all dismantled. He was going around with his meter to figure out exactly where the problem was. 1 Hour later... problem solved... fast, efficient... this guy is awesome and I would send him to my Grandmother's house...so you know I trust him! ;) One drawback: he didn't take off his shoes when he entered our place, and tracked in some snow. Once we found our my wife was pregnant, replacing the obsolete 60 year old electric panel on our house and properly grounding our electrical system became a top priority. We looked to Yelp to find an electrician and JK Electric was at the top of the list. When Jim came out to do the estimate he seemed like a quality guy. Very down to earth person who doesn't mind explaining what I imagine to be the most trivial electrical concepts for someone in his field. When we hired Jim (Owner) to do the work he started one to two weeks later and it took all of about four days. There were some holes made in the drywall that was to be expected and we asked for him to do some small additional tasks. Since they were really minor to the entire project he didn't charge us extra for them. He was also receptive to changing a few things after the work was complete. I called JK Electric based on their Yelp reviews after Applewood Plumbing and Electric tried to charge me $4000 to redo all the wiring in our house based on a few outlets not working and asked them to take a look. JK Electric was prompt and professional, got on with the business of fixing the problem, assured us that our wiring was perfectly safe and did not need to be redone as Applewood suggested. Fixed the problem and upgraded several outlets in a different room to 3 prong and added a dimmer switch for $275. It took a little longer than he expected to get the outlets working again because we've got a few renovations worth of wiring going on and it's not exactly obvious how things are hooked together up there. Altogether, I'm extremely pleased, they were able to make it out 5 days after I called, which was reasonable for the problem we were having. Hot tip - you want someone with a waiting list. They're busy because they're good. If someone can come that day, get ready for them to either not be very good or overcharge you. I'd recommend these guys to a friend in a heartbeat. read more

WOW. I installed a ceiling fan with light kit in my dining room a couple years ago, and the 100W halogen light was really dim (like a night-light), even though the fan worked just fine at hi, med, low speeds. I know it should be brighter because I installed the exact same model fan in my last house. I switched out the bulb, still dim. I took a multimeter to the bulb contacts - 120V. So I was at a loss and called JK Electric and told him about my problem, and no, there is no dimmer on this light. He said that that was what he was about to suggest - that there is usually a dimmer - a green button on the remote. Hmmm....light button on my remote IS green, but I thought it was only ON/OFF....so I tried keeping it depressed, as he suggested, and HOLY SMOKES, I'll be damned. This man's honesty and eagerness to help (free of charge) has made my day! He could have totally come over to troubleshoot in person and charged me for it. *sigh*...If only this great act of kindness were not shadowed by my shame at my incredible ignorance and failure to thoroughly read the manual.... Thank you, Jim, for solving my two-year-old lighting debacle and saving me $$. We no longer have to eat in the dark! :) read more

He was at my home two hours later to provide an estimate, on time and great to work with. He listened, shared his expertise and input and provided a written estimate via email later that same day. Sean came to our home two business days later to do the work. Sean was on time to the minute (something I value greatly) and was a pleasure to have in our home. Although I just met Sean, in no time I felt like he wasn't a service provider, but rather, a buddy of mine taking great pride to do a terrific job for us. Sean was finished on time, on budget and exceeded our (high) expectations. JK Electric are our go to guys for ANY work we need. Such a pleasure to do business with them. Once upon a time, there was an electrician. He called to remind you of the appointment you set because you requested it as life was being particularly frantic. He showed up ten minutes early and politely waited if you weren't quite ready. He was nice to your cats...all three of them :-/ He walked in, and didn't waste a second (charges by the hour). He patiently and explained what was wrong as he went, if you were interested. He tactfully told you not to screw in your light bulbs so tightly, so no, you didn't have to sue your neighbor. He screwed in and checked every bulb that may not have been dead after all. And just like that, he was gone, except that your problems were solved. All for $65 per hour. This happened to me thirty minutes ago. I swear. Thank you, thank you, thank you JK Electric. Thank you Jim. read more

We were really pleased with JK Electric. We needed a light installed over our kitchen sink, a switch for the light added, an electrical jumble in the attic addressed, and advice on a new service panel. Jim came out to give us a bid. He offered great insight and advice as to what we really needed to do and what we could do at a later time. His bid was very reasonable. Jim and a partner came out to do the work. They installed the kitchen light/switch and fixed the mess in the attic. (We will do the new panel at a later date.) They were prompt, tidy, and finished quickly. They answered any questions I had. We bought a foreclosure this year, and found complicated electrical issues during the inspection. So we called a few contractors in the area and described the work we needed done. JK Electric gave us an excellent quote, so we hired them to fix these issues for us...which they did in a surprisingly efficient manner, explaining the repairs as they were being made. But what made it a great experience overall was our electrician, who was extremely professional and as friendly as they come. This review is a little tardy, as I only just signed up as a member for Yelp. JK Electric did this work back in May 2011. We sold our house in Denver to a party that had rather strange demands for conditions of sale. In this case, it was electrical bonding. We called Jim because of the reviews on Yelp (despite the small sample size), and we're glad we did. He was unsure about the necessity of the work. He went and reviewed things with the State, and found out our home was indeed up to code. The Buyer's Agent was a piece of work (even beyond the scope of this being a buyer's market), so Jim went ahead and did all the work at a very reasonable price and was very professional and prompt. JK Electric came out to my house this morning to deal with a few minor issues. The electrician was prompt, friendly, and fast. All issues were resolved in just over an hour and he explained what was going on in a way that I could understand. When I booked the service he told me that they have a couple different ways to charge. I opted for the hourly rate, which was reasonable. When he went over one hour he didn't round up to one and a half or two hours, but pro-rated on exactly how long he was there. He was also happy to give me the Yelp discount. Jim (President) took my call and gave me a few ideas as to what could be the problem. We arranged for a 10:30 am appointment and Jim was at my door @ 10:29. We needed an electrician to replace nearly a dozen dated light fixtures with new fixtures, inside and out, of our home. After calling six places we decided on JK Electric for several reasons. Mr. King was professional, but explained things in laymen terms so there was never any confusion, he offered a good price, and gave a snapshot account what we could expect from services rendered, he was approachable in demeanor, and punctual. He worked. Period. He did not drag time out, he answered all of our questions, and suggested ways we could improve our lighting. Next to painting one's house, changing the lighting is one of the best ways to update one's home. Try it. We are very pleased with the entire experience using JK Electric. Then nothing! He didn't contact us and we have emailed him a number of times and get no response. I thought he'd be good by the reviews, but personal experience says otherwise. Jim was timely in providing an estimate for installing a new ceiling and wall outlet along with replacing a light fixture in my office. The $300 estimate seemed fair for the work to be done, and he appeared to be an honest man. The ceiling outlet and wall outlet were installed with success. The issue came when he installed an Italian light fixture with approximately 40 crystal prisms (valued at $1000 when purchased in 1990). We didn't have the original ceiling crossbar that was needed, but Jim had one in his truck which he used. After he left, I started hanging the crystal prisms and was almost done when the entire fixture crashed to the floor and the fixture and most of the prisms were destroyed. I was lucky I was not under the fixture or I may not be here to write this review. We called Jim and he returned 3 days later to install a new $100 light fixture I purchased. I did get an apology but that doesn't cover the $1000 light fixture and the $100 for a new fixture. Very disappointing that he didn't offer to make good on the situation!!! read more
