I do not recommend this establishment because the employee or owner (I'm not sure) at the front desk is irreconcilably rude. I came in here with my boyfriend who was interested in purchasing a body detox and she refused service to us and made it seem like we were criminals. There was no "intention to use their products in an illegal manner" (as the employee may argue is what she thought) since detox treatments are not regulated by the State of California and are not considered paraphernalia since Health and Safety Code 11364.5 HS prohibits "operating a business where drug paraphernalia is stored, displayed, or sold for use with legal substances except when it is kept in a room that is inaccessible to minors (that is, persons under 18) who are not accompanied by a parent." And since the product we came to purchase is stored up front and accessible to minors it seems reasonable that JL's is either in violation of this Health and Safety code or does not know that a detox kit is not paraphernalia or they simply just don't care about selling their products to paying customers... Either way, my boyfriend and I will not be returning. read more

I was disappointed to see when I walked in that there wasn't a face covering in sight. This store is great. I'm visiting from Sacramento and I was worried after seeing the negative reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. Nice people who have a good selection and good prices. I have bought glass from many stores in my 36 years and these people are just as nice as anyone I have dealt with previously. If you are visiting and need a place to grab something for your trip I would highly recommend this store. I asked the owners why they think they have bad reviews and they said that yelp has taken down several good reviews stating they seemed fake. Well this review is not fake, they did not pay me, or even ask for a review. Given the service they gave me I felt bad about their rating a decided I needed to put up a review, which I almost never do. Hi there, I just had a few comments on my experience here at your store. I assume you would want my feedback considering how you feel your shop is so much better than those in surrounding areas. I can tell you right now that you are wrong. I came into your store, because I was on the road and needed to get a nice, functional, and discrete tobacco smoking product. The lady at the front counter insisted on checking the many other patient, but slightly irritated customers but was too busy checking other customers out at the counter. I was not impressed. It took her about 2-3 minutes to check all of ours id's, and proceeded to argue with a gentleman because his picture no longer appears to look like himself? Which was ridiculous because it was painfully obvious that the passport was his. After waiting close to 5 minutes for this process, I was let into the back and was astounded by the lack of brand name glass. It was rare to find a unique piece in this store. The glass was behind the times, and the young boy working the back was almost as aloof as the lady at the counter. No greeting, and waited 10 minutes for service. When I asked if he had anything within my price range he mumbled something and slowly walked away. Ridiculous. After another few minutes of him doing nothing in the back I presume, (because he obviously didn't want to help the other two customers ahead of me) he came back out and helped the other two customers ahead of me. I asked to see a water pipe shortly after this and he grabbed it and told me he knew nothing about it. "Just got them in." He said. He then proceeded to tell me there were no seams on the glass. I was impressed! Fairly knowlageable about glass, I checked it out. And to my surprise, I found a seam! He lied to me! Completely useless as a sales clerk in a glass shop if you ask me. He looked lifeless the whole time. Afterwards I decided that maybe I shouldn't buy any glass from this guy. I started asking about the vaporizers and he recommended a vaporizer within my budget and even showed me how it works! He pulled out a brand new, still packaged one and said, "I'll meet you at the counter." He then showed me the new one and said, "I'll unpackaged it just so that you know it works!" Awesome! he's doing something right! So I asked, "Do they have a pre-charge so I can start using the product immediately?" He actually had the nerve to tell me that you guys pre-charge all of your vaporizers when you get them in!!!! He had just finished in packaging my brand new, never opened vaporizer as he told me this. What. A. Shame. I don't know who the aloof, rude, and uppity lady at front counter is. I'm not sure who the idiot in the back thinks he is, but what I do know is that your store is not only understaffed, but it is also run by a bunch of people with no knowledge of the products, good customer service, or how to do their job. It's more convenient than Reno, and they take full advantage of that. The only employee I have encountered recently was polite, however the woman who is there is incredibly unfriendly. The few times I've been in the shop while her working, she had been argumentative over bizarre things like how "no shop but [hers] sells this!" When in fact she is speaking of a glass de-bowler. :/ Not only conflicting, but what seems to be no lack of product knowledge whatsoever; they have basic products that are marked up. on the fair side they do sell a lot of vap pens. read more

Wow. Possibly the worst customer service. Ever! Call to ask a simple question, gruff-sounding woman instead insists on treating me like I'm stupid! Asked about a particular type of product, and she prattles on through a litany of what she has. I ask about a particular size and shape and she snaps "THERE'S NO SUCH THING; THAT'S TOO SMALL...!" Really. So the two that I've broken were figments of my imagination?!? So, I settle on a range of sizes and shapes and inquire about price, to which she proudly snapped "we don't quote prices over the phone". Okay, cool; I get that, but if she hadn't been such an ass on the phone, I'd be happy to stop by next time that I'm in Truckee. I'm in town 3-5 times per week, but will continue to just pass by as I've done for years! My husband and I were just introduced to vaping. We are both trying to quit smoking and the vaporizers are doing the trick!! We walked into JI's just to check it out and ended up leaving with a 3 in 1 vaporizer. I apologize for not remembering the name of the girl who helped us! I had a terrible experience with the sales-person, and the owner. I had lost my original vape in the snow so I purchased one just to get by, so I purchased a $26 vape for weekend. (It was one of those cheap disposable ones that you can probably use the tank once and will be useless.) I filled the e-liquid, waited for a while for the coil to soak, and vaped, it tasted like a wick burning. (No blueberry at all...) So I brought it back within 30 min of purchase. The worker just said "this is why we hate carrying e-cigs! We really want to get rid of this section of the store! I can't do anything about it." I politely asked to talk to the owner. He called the owner and the owner refused to speak to me, so I was just stranded with my $26 dollars of worthless e-cig in my hand. Since this is the only vape shop close by, I had to purchase a $20 tank to go with the working battery. If you have time to drive a little longer, I'd go somewhere else. read more

This is the cleanest, most welcoming, and well stocked shop I have been too. I returned the next day on my way back home knowing I would not find the same quality or variety for the price near home. I'm in the area visiting from New York and found JL's Smoke Shop thru a review I read here on YELP!!! I went there and the man behind the counter took such good care of me and helped me tremendously! I had to come on here and right a review! I don't do many reviews, but since I find them useful for my own personal reference, I think it's only fair to give back reviews and hope they will help others! If you are looking for vape supplies, the selection isn't huge at JL's but what he does have is quality and priced right! He took his time with me and let me try different things til I found just the right thing and I made my purchase! I'm very happy! If you live in the area or are visiting and need a vape pen replacement, ejuice or atomizers, this is a great place to start. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll go back to JL's. So we recently visited this smoke shop. The selections was great. The worker there recommended a specific water pipe for us he said it was great we decided on that one. We got home used it for one day it worked decently well. The next day we got it out to use, the roommate pulled the bowl piece out and water started leaking out when he let go of the pipe the whole side piece came off with it! There was hardly any pressure applied when he was doing this it was not in any way our friends fault that the piece fell off. So we called right away to explain the situation at hand. She put the phone down for 20 min and then hung up and would not answer our calls. The next day we called back to her shop, this time I actually got to speak with her. She said that they could not do anything for us she was very rude and super mean. I spent $150 on the water pipe and I believe that her costumer service was unacceptable. I would not buy anything here if you expect to get your moneys worth. If the owner would like to give us some type of compensation then I will gladly remove this post read more
