Reno, Nevada. Hatuey (funny name) is a two story lounge that imports their own cigars from Dominicana or Nicaragua. I don't see the tools to do in house rolling & the cigars that I acquired were imported by construction & nature. This lounge does not sell national brands and is classic small batch or boutique which is ideal for men like myself who seek experience w/ a exploratory or wandering disposition as showcased by my lifestyle. And yes, elements of wrecklessness abounds, but, what you define as wreckless or risky, I define as fearless or innovative. As Will Bill Hickok once stated while pioneerings through "impassible" terrain... "Men who behave don't make history." Hatuey has adopted, unknowingly, this mantra to be a bit different than the standard cigars. They carry different ring guages, binders, sizes, etc. Ranging from the classic dominicana medium & sweet to the nicaraguan full & spicy and every nook & cranny mixed in the middle w/ a highly competitive price point. I took back over 12 real cigars (16 total) and after a merely 500 miles adventure am left with two left. They BLAST (turn it up super loud) Fox News constantly and one guy is pretty insensitive about diversity. He's a tall guy with grey/blonde hair and after a conversation with him, I've never returned. I must have drop $400 before I got a clue. He's horrible enough to drive people away. The other men who work there seem to be decent guys. I felt super uncomfortable in this environment. I think that politics should be kept out of their business and they should put their TV on a neutral channel or turn it off completely. No one wants to buy a cigar and then sit down there and enjoy it because anyone like me would not enjoy it in that environment. The cigars are okay at okay prices. read more

Great find in Reno. I walked in looking for a certain cigar and was introduced to and educated about the Hatuey cigar brand. Upon entering I was quickly greeted by friendly staff and clientele alike. The gentleman running the show took the wife and I on a tour of their walk-in humidor. He asked what I was looking for in a cigar and he was able to pull some that may fit my liking. He then continued to explain their cigars and the components of each. Managing a cigar lounge myself I appreciated the time he took, the knowledge and cigar passion he was able to share. A friend who likes cigars gave me one of their Rothschilds and told me about this place. I liked it so I paid a visit. Their staff is knowledgeable and will help you with advice. They told me how to cure my new humidor box. They mostly sell their own cigars with tobacco from their farms in Dominican Republic. I got a fifty pack of the Rothschilds and filled up my humidor box. I come to Reno once a year for a long weekend of golf with the guys and my first stop everytime to Hatuey Cigars. They have quality cigars and a friendly atmosphere in the store. Everytime I've stopped by its been mid-day on a weekday and there are always several friendly people in there talking, laughing and enjoying cigars. It's a fun place. As for the cigars, I have yet to find a better deal anywhere. I'm not an expert by any means, but I've tried a lot of different cigars in my days and if I smoked cigars daily, the ones from this shop would be my choice. Spending a weekend in Lake Tahoe for a bachelor's party called for some cigars. The original plan was to stop by a casino and pick up some cigars there, but the rental car associate told us about Hatuey Cigars. It wasn't as easy to find as the rental car associate said, but at least it was close enough to the Reno airport. It's got a nice lounge area with two cushy chairs. The cigars were all in a small room further back. I'm no cigar expert... But I can say that this place was very inviting, and if I never need cigars while I'm in the Reno/Tahoe area, I'm definitely revisiting. Basically walked up to the counter and told the nice lady that I was here for a bachelor's party and asked if she would recommend a cigar. Lead us to the room and gave us a few choices. We made our decision and picked out 8 cigars. The lady told us to pick another one on the house, so we did. After paying for them, asked the lady what the proper way to cut the cigars were. Good cigars at a good price. I have been buying cigars at Hatuey since I think 2001 and their self branded cigars are usually well made and burn well. Occasionally I get one that doesn't draw well but hey its not an exact science and its okay at the good price level. I buy higher end cigars very occasionally on-line (usually H. Upmann Rothschild 4"or Souvenir 6" same cigar except for length). I don't smoke that often and so most of the time I will go into Hatuey and buy 6 to 8 cigars which I smoke over several months. It is a friendly place with a nice well lit smoking area in the front with the walk in humidor in the back. read more

I recently returned to Hatuey to give them a second chance after several bad batches of sticks over the past few years (center burns, hot burns, uneven, etc. These were "fresh" sticks, so I know it wasn't my humidor causing the problem). With the relocation/remodel of Fumare in the area, I had found my cigar heaven. But, I was too lazy to drive south to Fumare, and I was right here, so I popped in. I picked up 10 Double Coronas and headed home. I was happy to see the place busy and the addition of more lounge area upstairs. The staff-- still friendly and remembered me. Smoked two this weekend-- no problems. Nice burn, even draw, no shrapnel/filler, and overall pleasant without any gripes. Burned to the end evenly and didn't get too funky. So far, I am pleased with Hatuey and I'm happy to see the return to quality. For an everyday smoke, Hatueys are perfect. The quality is high for $5 average cigars. Sure, there are better cigars out there, but this is a great place to pick up humidor filling cigars that you can smoke regularly without worrying about busting the bank-- and still enjoy it! read more

This is a local boutique shop with locally sourced cigars from leaves grown on their own ranch in the Dominican Republic. Apparently, they provide tobacco leaves to some of the major Cigar companies, although I have no personal knowledge of that. All of their cigars are their own table, no Arturo Fuente, Avo, etc. However, don't think they don't have a good variety of flavors and styles; all the way from mild shade to dark and rich. I was very happy with the recommendations from the shop. It is a bit unusual for me to ask for suggestions because I know what I prefer, but in this instance, the assist was appreciated. The cost was lower than I have found elsewhere in town. I was quite impressed by the quality for the price, good value. Now, on to the best part. They have a delightful partition lounge space. Downstairs and upstairs are two relatively separate spaces. The chairs were quite comfortable and during my visit, the company was very engaging and pleasant. One star only for the quality of cigars. The gentleman that works there didn't once ask me what I was interested in told me in a rude way that "I cannot hear you with your mask on" he had a hearing aid which I have no issue with but he could have been polite about it. I must have interrupted his smoke time. I had to come out and grab him to ask his opinion and recommendations then tried to up sell me to cigars $18.00 + when I was looking at $5-$6 cigars. After I said I decided to go for a less expensive option for my father and I for fishing and I proceeded to ask him for the tin screw cap tubes and he again tried to up sell me to a $50 "Ultra Rugged Outdooesman travel case with built in humidifier for 2 cigars that cost less that $12. It was definitely a boys club mentality and I clearly was not part of the club. How to ask for help then was given terrible service and treated terribly as well would give zero stars except for the great cigars that are made in house but clearly not by this guy though. The icing on the cake, it's a work in the shopping center and I didn't have my ID my wallet was in my work and he proceeded to throw fit about it so needless to say I won't be back. I'm going to tell my friends who usually drop a lot of cash there. In conclusion maybe show off the amazing work that's done there and make the "newbies" feel welcome not like they're a pain I was about to drop some serious cash at some point. How sad. read more

Blown away From the minute I walked in, Silvia smiled and welcomed my wife and I as if she'd known us forever. I went there on Saturday, November 17, 2012, looking for a humidor comparable to an online model. Silvia had one, after discounts and not paying shipping cost, it was the same price as the online model. The store is amazing. Eyes were busy looking at the impeckable furnishings while nose taking in the inviting scents of fine cigars. Affordable!!! From the accessories needed to enjoy a fine cigar, to the reason l go to a shop like this, the cigars. She took me through the walk in humidor asking what I liked and enjoyed before, and recommending some I never considered. Fast forward one day.
