We stopped in during our Flushing expedition to get snacks and dinner supplies. If you've been to grocery stores in Manhattan's Chinatown, you'll be pleased by how much larger this place is, though no less hectic. It's not the cleanest, but produce had reasonably good quality. Prices were comparable to Manhattan Chinatown. Mostly Asians but a few white hipsters scoping some deals. One disappointment was that several things I picked up were way past their expiration date (like, years off), both in the packaged goods and the drinks, and with a telltale layer of dust on them. The service sucks big time! Today one of their employees yelled at customers for no reason and they went to the manager's office to file a compliant. However, the manager was nowhere to be seen and people at the office completely ignored them. And that employee even said everyone here is a manager so it's useless to complain. The Chinese supermarket is huge. The supermarket entrance is in front the subway station. So it is convenient for most shoppers. The market is dirty. The prices are high compared to other markets. People either don't care or are ignorant that the prices are high for most products. The people working there are rude and not helpful. When you asked for help the workers ignore you. When you ask for one pound of shrimp they give you almost 1 3/4 pound. Management must've instructed the workers to sell more. When you pick out the piece of pork you want they give you another piece. I have patience but when you say no they weight the meat, put the meat in a plastic bag, tag it with the price and leave it on the counter and walk away. Why did I check in? I want to start off by saying I am not Asian and no one here was mean to me. We walked in and it was totally amazing from the start. We usually only do Chinatown in manhattan and this store was so much bigger. The fish department was ginormous also lots of meats & veg and staples from china, and Korea and other countries. Yes it is crowded and yes there are lots of people but we did fine. We bought fresh lychee, lots of candy, some frozen bao, sweet tofu etc. we would have bought more but didn't feel like schlepping it all day. Quite surprised I can find everything for cooking Chinese cuisine in J-mart, Flushing. Look what I got today..... Wang Shouyi brand spice of 13 kinds of ingredients, and its Halal, fantastic! I really need this for beef stew, Lamb stew, assortment stew and so on...... Yes! I love J-mart supermarket, I pretty much shopping all groceries and any stuff here although there are so many supermarkets on Main Street, this one is just so big, clean and convenient. This place was like a madhouse of the day that I walked in. It was packed full of people and it was just crazy. What I loved about it is that they had some thing different for everyone. I love looking at the fish department because they have all different kinds of fish. This place is so big. Make sure that you know where you're going or else you'll bump into someone. What is also nice is that they also have accessories for the house. Not only is this a great place for Asian food and groceries, but it's also great to get you some chopsticks. I am a professional chopstick Collector and every time I travel the country and I am Immersed in Asian culture, I like to get me some chopsticks. So I ended up buying five. These chopsticks were pretty amazing and beautiful. They weren't like any chopsticks I had ever seen. The best part is that they were so well priced. My father is also a Chopstix Collector. He will be getting chopsticks from me as a gift. He will be so proud to know that I got these chopsticks from J Mark Quincy marked. J Mart is a place that I will come to again and again when I am in Queens. It is a treat and they have everything for someone. I was overwhelmed by this grocery store, which is an indoor version of Chinatown. People are loud, it's crowded, people push and shove. There are tons of various produce heaped in various places. There's even an open seafood area where giant fish, cuttlefish, lobster, and shellfish are just laying there on ice, emanating offensive odors and freaking out westerners. However, if you've never experienced this, I recommend it! I don't think I could take this on a regular basis, especially on a Sunday afternoon when it seems the whole city is here getting their week's worth of groceries. What they do have is variety. About 20 different types of frozen dumplings, soy sauce, tea snacks, etc. Its actually hard not to grab random stuff that looks good. The fact that the prices are so low compared to Manhattan makes the temptation so much worse. I got the small yogurt drinks, dumplings, and some koala snacks. Very fantastic. read more

RUDE CASHIER!! Been to this location a few times and prices are more expensive than other supermarkets in Flushing. There's this woman at the cashier #18 as pictured who always gets into fights with customers and always see her chatting with her peers rather than actually working. Unacceptable. Is this how you train your cashiers?! They can just stand there and cross their arms all day long and refuse to work? I went up to her lane today as this is the only lane available. She saw me putting down my groceries in front of her and she immediately turned around and started chatting with her pal (cashier at the next register) and ignored me. I stood in front of them and they continued to chat louder and louder as if the customer is invisible. Rude rude rude!! If you don't want to work, why don't you stay home and lay in bed all day?! Do you want to get some fish, Crabs or seafood ? Here it's mostly fresh not still alive and swimming in tanks. You can get frying pans, dishes and many other housewares in their bread new Department. There have been lots of new Renovations here, including new cashiers kiosks at the front and exits. There's a new food stand here as well as new flooring and square foot expansions recently implemented. The fruits and vegetable department his now about 30% larger. There's a butcher counter with a crew of white smocked guys to custom cut large or small orders to suit whatever you need. At the Main Street exit there's still that little upstairs ceramic shop that's got all sorts of fancy Asian artworks and furniture. Congratulations on your Renovations J-Mart, Good to see you continue expand. This supermarket in the New World Mall, is a big part of the Flushing Community so many friends and families shopping here, exchanging ideas, making plans. It's a huge community Marketplace. Enough is enough, today I finally made a Yelp account, because I couldn't take it anymore. I've been to a lot of Chinese supermarkets; that's my weird hobby. And I hate, with a capital H, J-mart. The reason for that is because they have false advertisement. Two days in a roll, they scan items and it's not the same as stated. Today I brought seaweed, it stated buy one get one free, so I grab a few bags, then the cashier checked it and said "no it's not", then another worker checked it...; in all, a total of 4 workers checked my item. I spend a quarter of my lunch break waiting for SEAWEED to be checked. From my knowledge, false advertisement is illegal (I wonder what I can do to get them into trouble...). Overall, I was proven right and got a unsympathetic sorry from the man, not even the cashier. This place has poor customer service and the way they run a business is a joke. I also previously brought salmon fish from them, when I asked for a bag in Cantonese, that man behind the counter mocked me and laughed. I am not there to be made fun of. I gave him the dirtiest look that no little girl should ever do. I wish they shut down soon! read more

I love the selection of groceries here - they have more than the offerings in Chinatown and I was even able to find fresh bamboo shoots!! There's a concession stand at the front that sells prepared foods. I got a box for $10, where I got to pick two items. I went for fu qi fei pian and beef tendon. Loved the beef tendon - it was nicely flavored by soy sauce and thinly sliced and chewy. Usually beef tendon is unnecessarily spicy (the most common version you can find at Sichuan restaurants), but the one here isn't!! The fuqi feipian was good as well, but nothing unique. Unfortunately $10 is actually quite pricy for a small box, but I have yet to find another place to go to for my beef tendon needs. read more

There are a lot of food, snack, and drink choices, more than other supermarkets. Jmart is located in flushing's prime real estate right by the 7 train main street station. Keep an eye for sales since there are always signs that show certain items on sale, perhaps items they want to get rid of from their inventory. Hass avocado is typically about 99 cents or 1 dollar at any supermarket, but I've seen it here on multiple occasions where they have it for 50 cents, and only one this 25 cents. Prices here are just amazing. On the weekends, they have food and drink samples at the end of the aisles and it definitely is a great way to try something before buying. If you are hungry before, during, or after your visit to Jmart, there's a very big food court downstairs which is part of the mall. Or there are food stands and a bakery in Jmart. Like with all Chinese supermarkets, it is eternal chaos. Thank my lucky stars that my mom only needed to pick up a few items and we were in and out in 10 minutes. They have tons of produce here and we also spied some longan ($7.99/lb) for sale. My mom picked up some Persian cucumbers ($1.49/lb) and a bunch of cilantro (79 cents). We got in line and quickly dashed out! This supermarket is in the New Flushing Mall, which to me is just absolute craziness. I wanted to get out of here so bad. Sigh. I frequent Jmart because compared to other Asian grocery stores, it is located at a very convenient location--right next to the subway station. It has a great selection of food and I can basically find everything I need from this place. The place is not clean, but it's tolerable. The price of everything is reasonable, although fruits generally are more expensive than other Asian grocery stores around. But the staff here is, on average, unhelpful and impolite. Don't expect them to help you find something because they also don't have a clue. There was one time I asked a worker where a specific vegetable was and he told me "it's somewhere at the vegetable section (DUH?!) and if you look for it carefully, you will find it eventually." A man at the seafood section always tries to persuade/push me to buy more shrimps, which is annoying. Occasionally you meet a nice cashier but most times the cashiers here are not very nice: they don't greet you by saying Hello, they are slow, and they look unhappy with their work. read more

I wanted to find pea leaves and could not find a single person who spoke English. Which, weirdly, I liked. I had to pull out Google Translate and show someone the translated word since I could not read it (really Google? you're not gonna show it spelled out in English?). If you're head out to Flushing on the 7 train, this is without a doubt the most convenient supermarket to get to. There are two entrances, one half a block east and one half a block south of the southeast subway entrance. The best part of this place is the produce. There's tons of redundancy - and this is a good thing, at least for the customer. For the same fruit, they will have different varieties and sizes all at different price points so you can pick exactly the kind you want. Asian pears and dragonfruit often go for more than half off, selling at $1-2 per pound depending on variety (of which there are several). Seriously, I've never seen an Asian supermarket sell three different sizes of dragonfruit at three different prices before. Other fruits and vegetables are also very reasonably priced. Packaged and refrigerated food is slightly less extensive than SkyFoods, but still more than enough for your needs. That's why I often visit both stores, picking up whatever's cheaper at one store over the other. A few logistical details: For credit card, MasterCard or Visa only. For multi-buy offers (e.g. 3 for $5), you must buy the listed quantity (or a multiple of it) or you will be charged original price. read more

Don't let you look at their produce; must take the first one in front of you and not disrupt their display and placement of vegetables or fruit even if quality or quantity is not what you want. M introduced K and I to this place - I thought to myself, how did I ever miss this place? I never even knew about this place nor have I ever noticed this huge grocery store on my way around Flushing. I want to say I am giving this place three stars, only because this place is ALWAYS crazy busy. I can't shop for clothes and definitely not FOOD in this sort of insane atmosphere. The produce isn't always fresh, the workers aren't all friendly but it's a large supermarket and they have a lot of selections to choose from. Be careful when purchasing fish, the salmon especially looks super orange to make it look fresh because they shine a Orange light directly on it! J-Mart is to the grocery K-Mart for Chinese people. Everyone comes to J-Mart! This place is pretty much draining every other supermarket in Flushing's sales with it's proximate location to the subway (right off the station), being in front of/near an array of bus stops and being in the heart of downtown Flushing right in a brand new, clean mall in the long-vacant space where the once great Caldor dominated Flushing (may Caldor rest in peace). There is really nothing to hate about this place. Almost everything is cheap and reasonably-priced and they almost have everything I could ever want. Products are neatly stocked and they have a nice dim lighting instead of those fluorescent lights that makes you feel like you're shopping in a prison. They have a huge selection of snacks and such. One thing that does bother me is that they only have 2 kinds of seaweed snacks. Sounds silly but I don't play when it comes to my seaweed snack. Honestly, you can spend a whole day at this mall and get almost everything checked off your to-do list. Plus, the cashiers don't have dull uniforms like most places do - they wear bright pink vests! read more

On the weekends it's usually crowded since that's when people do their food shopping. I like it because while yeah its just like many asian supermarkets. I find that Jmart has a lot of deals all the time. They also carry (I recently found out) a good Taiwanese pineapple pastry . I looked for them in other supermarkets and they cannot be found whatsoever. They also made an extra aisle for snacks!! YAY!! ~ You can find a lot of food here and a lot of brands as well. The most stressful grocery shopping I've ever done, but I really enjoyed the great selection of produce they had. Literally, you are surrounded by other shoppers who are trying to push and shove. Stand your ground and browse! I bought mostly produce- the prices were just right and good quality too! I got a huge bag of bok choy for super cheap. My monthly routine going to Flushing Jmart. I was on the train reading receipt and found it strange. I didn't pick baby cabbage in the shop. Then I got home and counted each veggie and fruits I bought against the items on the receipt. It's a completely wrong charge. Since at the bottom it says " no refund. Only grocery could be exchanged within 7days... Guess I just have to pay for the cashier's mistake. Small money but folks just be careful. Warning to all who do not speak mandarin or Cantonese: I was so traumatized I today I don't think I can go back to this market. I have been going for years and know the check out ladies aren't so nice but today one lady berated me and shamed me in mandarin in front of all the customers and had them laughing at me. They don't double bag your groceries unless you ask and then they get all annoyed so to prevent line back up and annoyed glares, I went to grab bags to double it myself. I took too many and the older check out lady there snatched them from me and started yelling and pointing and embarrassing me. I explained I would put them back but she turned her back and yelled "no English" and kept talking badly about me to the customer she was with. Nobody helped me. I kept asking the lady for 2 more bags and I basically had to beg until she did. I felt so horrible. No one should treat another human being this way, let alone a customer at a store. I went to the manager and ended up explaining to the assistant. She was a younger Chinese girl who understood English and already knew who the lady i was talking about was. She apologized and said she would speak with the manager for me. Who knows what will happened. But I was so embarrassed and my dignity so ruffled that I cried the whole time I explained. My go to Asian market in Flushing! 1. Super cheap prices 2. Large variety of groceries - Especially the meat, fruits and veggies section. So much stuff to browse...so much anxiety knowing that you're clogging up the aisles trying to compare/decipher package A to package B written in Chinese. 3. This supermarket is located inside New World Mall where the food court is below it and you can take the escalator up to get to the different restaurants and stores. This store is pretty large for being in central Flushing. We came here to buy Asian liang cha and it was average price. They only take cash if your total is less than $10. Checkout was pretty fast for us even though there were a lot of people inside shopping. It's in central Flushing, very close to the 7 train station and other bus lines so very convenient! We've shopped here almost every time we've been to Flushing. They offer basically what other grocery stores in Flushing offers, but I am sure there are price fluctuations depending on what you are getting such as veggies, meat, seafood, protein, etc. They also offer a variety of cookware and kitchenware. It is nice that there are multiple entrances and exits as you can enter/exit from Roosevelt Ave and/or Main st since that will get you to certain bus stops depending on where you are going. read more
