Popped into Tea Pulse on a Saturday morning right around opening time. The shop was pretty empty and the ordering at the front kiosk was a breeze. I got a text message notification just a few minutes later when my order was ready. I ordered both varieties of their egg tarts: the Original and the Lemon Cloud. Both were absolutely exceptional. The crust is a real standout - buttery, incredibly flaky, and airy, almost like a croissant. The Original egg tart features a rich, creamy custard that isn't too sweet, letting the flavor shine through perfectly. The Lemon Cloud offers a creative twist with a light marshmallow topping and a hint of lemon spread that pairs beautifully with the custard. Remembering that the customized osmanthus milk tea that I tried earlier this year was a let-down with less sugar, this time I ordered the Tahiti orchid bubble tea with the regular amount of sugar and it was impressive! The orchid essence in the bubble tea was subtly nutty and floral and the boba brought it out, too, with the oat milk. Attentive and efficient staff. There is a sitting area for trying the amazing egg tart with its airy texture being not too sweet. What not to like especially given that we got to pick a cute phone bag for their anniversary giveaway upon ordering a tea and two egg tarts?! There are so many drink places and flushing that it's so overwhelming. I walked by and I wanted to try tea pulse because it had a buy to get a free item offer so I said why not. The differentiating factor between Tea Pulse and the others is that they offer a lemon/lime fruit tea that can come in a huge XL size at a pretty decent price and their pastel de natas. They also offer other types of milk teas, cheese teas, pure teas, and smoothies. Shop and packaging is pretty cute. I had the jasmine lemon fruit tea and strawberry kenon fruit tea. Both were good and had lime instead of lemon which I preferred. I didn't expect to enjoy the strawberry one as much as I did. Sugar level can be adjusted but not ice. read more

They were offering samples outside for their orchid milk tea so I tried some and it was pretty good. Then I saw that there was a promotion (over now) for a free magnet if you bought 2 drinks from their orchid menu. I got the jasmine lemon blast with 70% sugar (medium but it seemed like a lot of people like ordering the large more) and orchid milk teas. Instead of a TV to check for your order number, they'll scan the receipt and it'll announce your number once your drinks are ready. It was nice that they offer a quality guarantee on their drinks (they'll remake it if it doesn't taste good). Quality of the magnet was just okay (nearby Molly's has better quality ones). The jasmine lemon blast was very sweet at 70% (get 30% instead) and tasted like a lemon skittle for the first few sips. After drinking about 1/3 of the drink the tea flavor started to come through. We visited Tea Pulse to check out their Pastéis de Nata, as Tea Pulse bakes and serves them fresh. We ordered two for $7.00; $7.62 with tax. They are a decent choice while in the neighborhood, as they are larger than equivalent egg tarts from Na Tart, located across the street in Tangram Mall. Na Tart does offer multiple flavors and toppings though, while Tea Pulse's egg tarts are only available in one flavor. Tea Pulse's pastéis de nata have flaky, crispy crusts, but their custard fillings lack cinnamon and a smoothness found in equivalent egg tarts from Lisbon, Portugal, where these delicious treats originate. Tea Pulse's version also seemed unevenly greasy. Of note, the going rate for pastéis de nata in New York City is three to four times more expensive than in Lisbon. I thought that Tea Pulse's pastéis de nata were not as good as most versions we tried in Lisbon; equivalent to the ones we found at Lisbon Airport, and better only than the vegan tarts made with olive oil we tried from a shop on Rua da Misericórdia. I hope Tea Pulse improves their recipe, as until then their pastéis de nata are too similar to lower cost Chinese-style Portuguese egg tarts, aside from a crispy, flaky crust. The Chinese-style Portuguese egg tarts from Lily Bloom bakery chain deliver 80% of the goodness of Tea Pulse's pastéis de nata at less than half the price, when including sales tax. They had a lot of unclaimed drinks on the counter, people that ordered ahead and didn't come pick up yet. Some giant jumbo lemon tea drinks which looked good. People picking up sometimes skipped others by going up and waving their receipt first... 380 went before me, as well as a few others even with my drink waiting on the counter. They do take credit cards. Egg tarts come in 2, 6, and maybe 4? They don't sell individually. A separate person packs those, so also had to wait on them. Taste-wise, the egg tarts lacked the cream needed to make it smooth - tasted like scrambled eggs in a pastry shell, while sweet was definitely not melt-in-your-mouth kind of custard. A little flame brulee torch work on top didn't do much for the flavor. Oolong tea was more milk than tea and tasted off because of it. Pass on these poor flavors, and long lines. Excellent Cheese Thai Tea boba which was what I was craving for in this warm summer heat. The flavor was spot on with the nice complimentary cheese foam and freshly made tapioca. I also was able to try their Orchid Cheese tea which had a nice and subtle floral flavor as well as their Osmanthus milk tea- another light and refreshing drink. Service could be "faster", but I understood that they overcompensated with the amount of orders being made last call late at night before closing, so it was a bit of a wait for drinks which caused a queue to form inside. The employees seemed generally happy, gracious and accommodating to their customers and apologized for the wait which was appreciated. I've yet to try their other drinks, but they all seem delicious and reasonably priced based on the competition surrounding the area. Finally got to check out the newest boba spot in Flushing, right next to Molly Tea (my faveee). Line was an hour long during their grand opening where there was a BOGO offer for their milk tea set (where you could pick and choose which you got for free). Unfortunately they didn't have any boba with the milk tea options, but I believe that'll change once they open more fully since there was a crazy amount of traffic in the store already. The teas and options are pretty similar to Molly Tea, but the flavor is pointedly less floral. Some of my friends preferred this more as it had more bitter notes but I personally like Molly Tea a bit more - especially when you do a side by side comparison of flavors.
