Honestly I would give this place 5 stars based on customer service alone, but I had to dock one star because their inventory was love and the prices are so outrageously high. But I do have to say all the staff was super helpful the ladies back in the fabric section and Dora at check out. anytime i go into this place everyone has bad costumer service & simply don't know how to interact with people. YOU chose this job. while shopping today & big roll of fleece fabric fell from the top shelf & the yards of fabric fell on my daughters head and the bar that was supposedly holding it, hit my son on his shoulder which resulted in bruising. when the manager came, she showed no empathy & since she was already on her way out, i know she didn't care. they're lucky it didn't hit him in the head or caused serious damage. read more

I am not a very crafty person so walking in to this store is very intimidating. I enjoy looking at all the already made decorations and seasonal decorations...those don't require any crafting on my part. They have much to choose from and it is always changing with the seasons. I have found the cutest things there....things I didn't know I needed. haha! They have a wide variety of picture frames too. I recently made some changes to my home decor and most of my new wall items, shelf items and pillows have been purchased at Joanne's. They usually have pretty good coupons that make their prices even better! The employees there always seem super busy but they are always friendly. It's a busy place, especially during Covid! One of the employees, Esperanza, was very helpful to me when I was lost in the "sea of fabric". She must have seen the scared and confused look on my face and knew I needed help. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and had a smile on her face the whole time. She helped me with what I needed and even gave me some advice. So much to see, but without much crafting/sewing experience it is scary! I appreciate all of your help, Esperanza! I was there yesterday and I've noticed the lack of customer service many times. This time an older lady just needed to know a certain fabric. There was no employees there that knew how to sew or anything about fabrics. Which is odd. And she looked defeated. So once again I walked over to help another customer when I am a customer myself and helped her pick out her fabrics and linings. Gave her a couple videos to watch online to make her dream come true. It only took me 5 minutes of my time. Please do better. And smile the girl at the counter just stares at you. read more

In love with everything about this store! The selection, the prices, and the staff are all great! They have TONS of fabric to choose from, an entire clearance section, and all the extra hardware you could need! They have a wide range of craft supplies, home decor, and even wedding stuff.. make sure you provide plenty of time to walk through and see all they have to offer! (Plus their fabric is actually cheaper than walmart!) There is a younger gal that has helped me out at the cutting table everytime I have bought fabric here - I always forget to catch her name, but she is super sweet and offers all sorts of tips and tricks for different projects when I've mentioned what I'm working on. 10/10 recommend checking this place out for all your crafting needs! read more

I'm writing this review at the behest of Summer, the assistant manager, who sarcastically suggested it. Today, I visited the store in search of a particular fabric style, which was out of stock. An associate informed me that it could be sourced from another store or ordered online. When told the fabric was an hour's drive away, I agreed to travel to get it the next day. After browsing other designs, I proceeded to the cutting area. There, I asked about the fabric's price and the possibility of transferring the other fabric to this store, as I had done previously. However, Summer's demeanor was unhelpful, dismissive, and condescending--unfit for a manager. The brief five-minute interaction was enough to discourage me from making a purchase and consider shopping online with a different company, even if it meant waiting two weeks, rather than returning to this store. read more

I came in to the store a few weeks ago to pick up an online order. They had a great deal on planners and was able to find one on sale and an extension pack. I ordered for pick up so I could call when I arrived to have my order delivered to my car or walk in to the registers and pick up my order. Well, I called ahead and they said my order was ready so when I arrived, I walked in and lined up at the registers. My items were already bagged and I just gave the employee my name. The store was not very busy so it was a great day to go in and avoid contact with too many people. read more

I was in the store on 5/25 when I witnessed in the checkout line a costumer attempt to hold up the checkout line and respond rudely at the employee at the register. The customer, Ana P (who I just saw gave a negative review) appeared to be arguing about a discount that she didn't get and maybe wasn't supposed to get. Anyways, I give it 5 stars for the employee doing what looked like her best attempt and perhaps anyone's best attempt to calm this irrational customer and attend to the other customers at the same time. These jobs aren't easy, so I think it's worth recognizing when customer service is challenged and a business can keep it together. Jo-Ann Fabics is basically my second home. I teach sewing and I sew costumes (and cosplays) and clothing in my free time. Sewing is my hobby and it is my life, so having the perfect fabric for each project is important. Going to Joann's is a blast because they always have something new to check out and buy! Everyone there is always SO nice and helpful. They are all very knowledgeable and help me find the perfect fabrics and supplies for my projects. The fabric selection is great, they have options for apparel, costumes, quilts, bridal, and other special occasions. They also have half the store stocked with craft supplies from yarn to paint to beads and trims. I love walking around and shopping at Joann's, I highly recommend it! :) read more

This is definitely the place to pick up all your craft supplies. They carry silk flowers, jewelry making supplies, scrapbooking stuff, paint, yarn, and candles. If you like do it yourself sewing projects, they have hardware and fabric for window treatments, sewing machines, fabric by the yard, and all manner of sewing supplies (ribbons, buttons, thread, scissors, etc.). To finish off your gifts they carry greeting cards and wrapping paper, too! Definitely a one-stop shopping Mecca for the crafty. The only real negative was the cashiers were painfully slow. Seriously s-l-o-w, and they knew it because one cashier apologized (or made excuses) with the phrase "I can only work so fast." While that may be true to a point, she was in NO danger of reaching that top speed during our visit. Thank GOD they have a wide variety of candies arrayed along the register line. This was my first time here. I didn't have too much time but I could've spent hours pawing thru the clearance containers on the back wall. They were filled with exquisite, clearance priced baubles and doodads! On the right side of the store behind the cutting area are tons of clearance small bundled fabric remnants and bolts of fabric. I recently went in to the store on a busy day and bought several items. I left the store with the items and realized the next day they overcharged me by about $25. I thought it wouldn't get fixed so I just needed to suck it up for not being on top of the transaction. I received a survey about a week later and I completed it, stating I wasn't happy due to the overcharged and I wouldn't be back. With in one hour I received 2 emails apologizing for the overcharge and the promise to fix it. I was deeply impressed a store would review my feedback so quickly and respond on a holiday no less. While the store is dark, prices are expensive (but they always have good sales), parking lot can be difficult to get in and out of, and you will be approached by homeless people, I will be back and even with that because it seems they do care about their customers. read more

So I visited Joanns fabrics for the first time and I wasn't too impressed with this place. It's a nice cute little shop and in my opinion it mostly leans towards knitting/crocheting. If knitting/crocheting is your thing then you hit the jackpot here. Joann's fabrics definitely has tons of fabrics by the yards. Apparently this shop has been around for quite awhile and if you're not from Bakersfield I don't think you would know of this place, unless you frequent this area often and I believe the reason for that is lack of advertisement. The shop is a little on the pricey side in my books and it's probably because it's a specialty shop just for fabrics. This shop also has tons of creative things for you folks who love hobby shops like Michael's & Hobby Lobby, but doesn't have as much variety as the other stores. In my opinion, I believe you can find similar fabrics at much cheaper prices at Walmart or other department stores. Customer service here wasn't spectacular nor was it bad; I just wished the workers were more interactive and cheerful as I believe people know what they are looking for when they visit this establishment, they just need direction where to find it here. read more

I shop here frequently and it generally a good experience. I typically purchase way more than I should. The long term employees are very helpful. There is just one person here who cuts the fabric that is always snarky and talks down to me. It's the same every time and I dread getting fabric cut when she is working. She always has to correct a comment I make or tell me I am wrong in some way so I don't even engage anymore. People are passionate about crafting; it should not be an unpleasant experience. read more

Everybody likes to hate on Joann's fabrics, but this is my go to spot for almost everything in the past couple of weeks. Jo-Ann was with me online and curbside pick up when everything else in the world closed. Jo-Ann gave me steep discounts and promotions once in a while, and as a whole, I just love coming to the store and seeing what else they have so that I can expend some creative energy. They have awesome coupons, awesome deals on fabric, and a wide variety of everything craftsy. I can never go in there and not get something. Yes, this may be an addiction, but it is one worthwhile in my humble opinion. Yes, your online orders may be delayed for a couple of days, but that is something that now, you can actually go into the store for and pick up the items you need. Yes, sometimes their pricing is different than the ones listed, such as sometimes they have not yet had time to update their computer system to their inventory, but as long as you point it out nicely, they're very accommodating and willing to give you the discount that was listed, so you have to be accountable for your purchases. I love their fabric selection and beads, but I also love the fact that they have so much stock of tulle, and their spring deals of 80% right now is epic. I got an originally $5.49 for $.99! how awesome is that deal? disclaimer, if you're lucky, you might still be able to get some right now. Oh, and don't forget, if you place online order from now to May 30, you spend $40 and get a $5 reward. you're welcome. I love Jo-Ann as a staple in this community and hope it thrives. This is a smaller Joann's store, so the selection isn't super great. Better prices can be found at local fabric stores. When you first walk in you're kind of put off by how dark the store is. It almost only seems half-lit. While I found everything I needed, because it was so dark and cold (literally the AC was really blasting) I had no desire to shop for things that weren't on my shopping list. In and out and nothing more. While I probably won't be back, I did like the gal at the counter she was really sweet. read more

Not impressed. Today and tomorrow is their Teacher Appreciation event! Oh hey, I'm a teacher, I'm appreciated...lets go! So off I went on a magical adventure for teacher supplies! Not sure what kind of teachers they are appreciating. Joann's is a main source for all your sewing, knitting, and DIY home projects like (knit a scarf, paint a mailbox, sew a dress). They have a buttload of fabric, people!! But- Magnetic borders like the ones you offer online? NO. Fadeless paper for bulletin boards? NEGATIVE. Bulk magnets? Magnets, yes. BULK? Ah RATS. I waited over 30 minutes tonight at the cutting table. There was 1 employee working (Hope) and there was a line of 7 people at one point and she never called for someone else to help her. One other worker came over and helped the next person in line and then left with 6 others still waiting. It was only after myself and a few others started asking Hope if she could call someone the lady who she had been helping the whole time offered to pause her cutting so a few of us could go. Hope NEVER called for back up and other employees saw what was going on and never offered to help either... You need to up your customer service. How disappointing! read more

Haven't been here in years and when I stopped by today was very disappointing. Went to pick up some upholstery fabric to redo a couple of sitting chairs. I remember they used to have aisles of beautiful upholstery fabric. Now, the upholstery section is off in the corner with very limited selection. The entire store looked much more run down than I remembered. Even the employees working there did not seem to be of the same level. Many years ago you'd go to fabric stores like this and employees would be ladies who loved to sew and had knowledge of sewing. If you had a question or needed help, there was someone who could actually help. Now I found the employees were basically minimum wage employees who just needed a job. There were also hardly any customers in the store. Will need to travel down to the fabric district in LA to find my upholstery material. I remember growing up going to fabric stores like this with my mother on Friday evenings. It'd be full of ladies, mostly homemakers, browsing pattern books and selecting fabrics. Definitely not the case any longer. It seems a sad sign that times have changed. read more

The associate Carrie is really rude. I did a order pickup yesterday and they were taking long to let me know my order was ready so since I was near I stopped by and asked if It was ready or if I can just grab the item if it wasn't and she was instantly rude. She was no help at all and seemed so bothered by just doing her job. She said it wasn't going to be ready till tomorrow. I went home and as soon as I got their I got an email my order was ready. I went the next day there was a line outside so I called (since it's an order pick up). They did not answer the phone at all. I called several times. I assumed they were busy so I went to the mall and decided to come back later when they weren't busy. I went back and called and they weren't picking up their phones once again. It didn't seem busy so I was getting a bit frustrated. I went inside and their was only one other customer checking out at the registers and then their was Carrie on the other register doing nothing and not picking up my phone call. I walked to the line at the register to get my one item and she walked away instead of helping me with my order. I waited for the other associate to help me but it got me upset with such bad customer service she has given time and time again. I understand she doesn't like her job but she doesn't have to have an attitude or not do her job properly. She made my experience terrible at joanns. I have never had a great experience here. No one ever asks if you need any help. The times I've gone there has been long lines, only one person at the register, and plenty of associates. Good customer service goes a long way and my bad experiences has left a bad taste in my mouth for joanns. It sucks because I love Hildie & jo but I am going to check out Micheals and see if they have that brand because their customer service has always been better when I've gone. read more

This place is very cluttered and dingy which is hard to get past when you're new to the store and trying to find your way around. At this point I've been here a few times and I've decided I'm not ever going back. The employees have been a mix of really nice but totally unhelpful and ignorant about what's sold or not, or they've been flat out obnoxious as well as unhelpful regarding inventory. With the other craft stores around I'm not sure how or why this place is still in business. Other than the ugly interior and wacky employees, the stuff they sell is always at a decent price. Received an email that my fabric order was ready, (even though half was cancelled due to lack of inventory) came to pick up curbside and followed the instructions to call with my order number. They said they will be out shortly. After waiting 36 minutes, I attempted to call multiple times because the other cars that came after me were given their orders first. I asked an employee if she can check my order because Ive been waiting a long time and she says with a nasty attitude that I have to wait like everyone else and she closes the sliding door as I reply. (I was in my car still and never got down. One lady attempted to get off her car and they yelled at her like it was a police stand off "STOP, get back in your car!" I understand the difficulty of transitioning during this time with COVID-19 but DO NOT send emails stating your order is ready for pick up if it's not! Do not make people wait without communicating with them! Do not give attitude for a simple question or when someone is being polite and most importantly have some kind of organization in effect. One lady next to me was waiting for over 1 hour. I left and cancelled my order. Really disappointed read more

I've gone into the store a couple times in the past month, especially since it's Halloween and we do home made costumes. And every time I go In and I have to pay I always get the worst customer service from the cashier SUE ELLEN. She is so rude. I bought tons of fleece with my sister for blankets as Christmas presents and we wanted to split the cost between the both of us but we both had cards. Considering most places can't do it, we asked her if her system allows it and she replied with "I don't care." So we replied back with "is that a yes or a no?" And she said "it's a I don't care!" Well I don't care to shop there anymore. I've been going there with my mom and grandma and sister my whole life and up until recently I won't go. One of the worst customer service oriented places ever in my history of retail shopping. First my wife and I head there excited about her new career in crafts and crochet, when we get there we get absolutely no help whatsoever, we look like we need it but obviously stocking merchandise is more important than helping to sell it.... I come from years in retail service... we went back because of a yarn my wife really wanted only to find the cashier was so under the weather she kept telling us how she has to be there or she'll get fired and thought geez that sucks, more like slave drivers then managers, but that is just one side... third time I had to buy same yarn for wife to finish project I get there at 6 on Sunday, they are closed but I see a line I ask politely to "please let me just grab the yarn and I'll stand in line, I will be supper quick I promise" I had just driven from the other side of town cause my wife needed this to be finished by next day. They just said we're sorry but it's six and we're closed. Like I said, I have worked retail and most everyone soft closes the store especially when a customer asked politely and comes from way across town. Last time I'll be going there. Lost some serious customers. read more
