Every single time I have gone to the Redding location, the manager, Melissa, is terrible! She is rude and short and interrupts. The first time I spoke to her, it was to ask her to open the restroom. She was one aisle away and putting up a shelf. I've been in customer service so I get it, but when you let out a big sigh and roll your eyes at me, it makes me want to be a Karen. I was not and just let it go and thought maybe she was having a bad day. The next time I went in and needed her to cut some fabric, you'd think I asked her to cut her arm off instead. She's so grumpy. This most recent time, I went to ask her a question and she interrupted me and told me she wouldn't help me if I couldn't calm down. Ummm, all I said was "sorry to bother you but...." And then when I asked for her name, everyone working looked at me like they'd heard it before. Obviously she's just a nasty person. She should not be a manager. If you don't like your job, get a different one. I don't even want to go in there again. Heck you Melissa. read more

I'm writing this review because I witnessed the current manager of Joanne the other day working her full butt off, trying to get through everything in the store and get it unpacked and shelved. She told me that she's receiving so many boxes and working so many hours she couldn't possibly get it all done. it's been this way for a long time at this and the district manager or whoever is in charge. Needs to look at this store. Get a team together at least a dozen people and help that poor manager get that store set. She has working hard since she became the new manager and it's never ending. I just wanted to give a shout out to her. I'm not gonna say any names, but she knows who she is. And Joanne get it together this store that is huge an old circuit city mind you, enough people to operate it and keep it in clean shape you've got competition. read more

Joann's in Redding is the WORST place to go for fabric! Unfortunately it's about the only place to get fabric. They have a good selection but there is no rhyme or reason in the way they stock the shelves. Also, only one very slow person cutting fabric. Waited for 40 minutes. She would not request backup and she talked incessantly! I'll order from another company online next time. read more

I have had the worst luck with this company. I placed an order online and for 3 weeks, my order just said awaiting carrier pickup. It was supposedly lost during transit is what I was told yet my package had never even been picked up by FedEx. So I decided to give it another try and re-order my items. This time my entire order was cancelled within 1 day and it stated that the items were out of stock. I thought to myself there is no way that all 30 items I ordered were suddenly out of stock so I checked and sure enough, everything was still in stock. I also haven't been able to check the status of my order on their website because when I try to check using the email address that they clearly have since they emailed me and the order number on the emails they sent me, it says that nothing is on file with that information and please check that I entered it correctly and try again. I am copying and pasting the order number that they emailed me so I am not entering incorrect info. I am so sick to death of incompetent companies. They didn't just screw the pooch on 1 order but 2 orders and back to back. read more

This store in Redding, CA is the worse! The store manager Bill is WORTHLESS so don't ever expect anything from him and he will LIE to you! He won't return your call and will blame his employees saying they didn't give him your message. If you sign up for a class here you better make sure instructor knows how to do the craft they are supposed to be teaching and make sure they know they have a class scheduled! Why can't I look asunder? Never again. True, there's not a place in town I can get 90" muslin for $3/yard. But sweet mother-of-apathetic-snails, there's not one person here who cares to make my shopping experience anything short of torturous. And where is this product from? How many women died under collapsed roof to bring us this 10% shrinkage formaldehyde fabric? In fact, no one is enjoying themselves in all of Joann-dom. Save, of course, Joann herself, while reaping huge profits from crap product and low wages. I repeat. Never again. The new facility is beautiful and clean however my visit was ruined when in line to pay. A checker proceeded to shout at my husband about the foam in hand. Keep in mind she was "helping" another customer. We were also 3rd in line. Once we got up to pay she told us the price of the foam as if we weren't aware and once I pulled out my coupon she notified me it wasn't going to work on maybe but one thing. Never made eye contact, made a few additional comments and didn't even bag all of our items. The name of the model employee was Alex. I went to Joann's this morning and 15 minutes after opening waited outside in line about 20 minutes. I was good with that - I understand. However, once inside and at the cutting counter I encountered an unnecessarily long wait. There was one cutter, Marina, and she was slower than a snail. In addition to moving in slow motion, she took all the time in the world chit chatting with a customer. After waiting for what seemed like forever with others behind me, and she wasn't making any progress, I left and found someone else in the store who was stocking fabric. She said "of course she could help". Marina should not be left alone at that counter. When I left, after being told no manager was available, I expressed my thoughts to a couple of the staff. There were still lots of people waiting outside. The delay wasn't in the customers, it was with the cutter. VERY frustrating!!! read more

I have shopped there for years, but it seems more and more items listed for sale are not when you get to the check out. Happened again today. The items I wanted, I found online as available in the store - they actually had fur according to the online information and they were on sale. I went in, found the items - I wanted two. When I checked out, they did not ring up as on sale,. I mentioned it to the clerk, he shrugged. I bought the items anyway as I needed them today. No more Joann's for me. I have options in town and there is always Amazon, though I like to support our community. This makes it difficult. read more

I know they have some things you can't get elsewhere in Redding, but I swear nothing could make me go back there. If you need something at the fabric counter you'd better get there when they first open. The ladies are all nice, but they are understaffed. If you need the bathroom while you're shopping you will have to find an available clerk to walk you to the back of the store and let you in. Today the "bathroom lady" was also the only one at the fabric counter. I felt sorry for her having to leave the counter with six people waiting to let someone into the bathroom. The front registers are almost always understaffed. Sometimes I have been #12 in line with only two checkers. Never go around the holidays at any time. Perhaps they are catering to a customer base of sewers and crafters who don't work and have time to wait and will put up with it. But if you work and try to go on your lunch break you may leave empty handed. They are a perfect example of how customer service has declined over the years. read more

I couldn't find a price on an impulse item near the front and the cashier near it told me she did not know and was not going to check even though no one was in line. Tyler was kind enough to check. I never see the store manager on the sales floor here. I placed an order for curbside pick up for today. Called as I was leaving to make sure it would be there. They said I could take a week. The supposed manager just kept saying umm every 2 seconds when I called. It's already paid for. Asked if I could just come grab the items myself since it's paid for or cancel the order for a gift card so I could come get them today she said umm I don't think we can do that. You're the supposed manager. You are SUPPOSED TO KNOW THESE THINGS. I don't wanna be going out and about in the craziness. Or at all. I have an immuno compromised child who has nothing to do. The website did not say a few days to a week. It said pick up today. I asked her for the customer service. She said it's on the app. Nope no phone number just an e mail which I got a automated response. I'm livid. My kids are going stir crazy and she refuses to be helpful at all. I call my bank to cancel they said they'd have to send a new card and it could take 3 weeks to get the money back. WTF!! Why can't she just give me a gift card. This is ridiculous. I understand there busy. But make sure everything is properly stated online and on the phone. And refusing to give me the customer service number is not okay. I felt bad there working but after the way she treated me I don't. Thanks for making my kids cry. I'm sorry but being rude and purposely being unhelpful is not what the world needs right now. I really dislike going into Joann Fabric in Redding, Ca. because so many of the employees are consistently rude and the cutting line is consistently slow. However, the last time I was in (Thurs. Aug. 14, 2014), I had my worst experience yet. A pair of ladies and I were waiting at the cutting counter for our numbers to be called. There were two cutters, one apparently the manager and one a younger lady. The manager was cutting for a lady who had about 20 bolts, so that was talking a long time. The young cutter had just finished with one customer and had started cutting for a lady with two bolts of burlap, which has a sizing chemical on it that she has allergies to. When the manager finished cutting her order she told the younger lady that she was going to help someone else in the store somewhere but that she would be back then the younger lady could go wash her hands. Apparently cutting burlap requires pulling a string of fabric at the point where cutting will occur then cutting with scissors. This was taking her a long time but the frustrating part was that during the entire time she was cutting, she was having a conversation with the customer about the craft being made which involved a detailed description by the cutter of an alternative method the customer could use to make what she was making. So there were long leisurely periods of the sharing of craft ideas and no cutting; the whole time I and the pair of ladies were just waiting. (By the way, I only needed two small pieces of ribbon cut.) Finally the manager came back and began to cut for me. (Surprise, her scanner was not cooperating--delay, delay...) Now the worst part of the whole experience comes. The young lady finally finished, but probably got a pang of conscience and helped the waiting pair of ladies before going to wash up. The ladies put a remanent of fabric on the counter which was not on a bolt so did not have a product number. The cutter made a comment that she needed the number, and there was an awkward moment as neither the customer nor the cutter knew exactly what to do. Luckily the manager was there to tell the customers that the cutter could not sell the fabric without the number. Awkward silence again. The customer finally asked if the cutter could help her find the number. Again, the helpful manager said, "No, she can't." Awkward silence. (In what business is it the customers' job to find barcodes? Isn't that the employees' job?) I was shocked as I'm sure the other customers were. Finally the most helpful manager with obvious reluctance said she would go get it after she was done helping me. In the mean time, the ladies went to look on the remnant table for another piece with a number and had come back with the same fabric but different color. Helpful manager explained, in a very condescending manner, that she needed the number of the exact material. The customers went back again to try and find the damn number. WAIT!! The story gets worse. As the ladies (Eastern European speaking other language) walked away, the very helpful manager made a comment to me regarding the ladies, "Learned helplessness." I was stunned and mortified! I feel very guilty that I did not respond to her appalling behavior and inappropriate comment. I just cannot understand how the employees at Joann Fabric in Redding, CA get away with being so very rude to their customers. I guess it's because the managers are the role models and also because they currently don't really have any competition in the city. read more

I have been calling looking for a fabric I bought from another store. I have done this in the passed and had no problem. (I should mention I have physically gone to the Joann's within 80 miles of me, I am not being lazy) I have already called 3 other stores with no problem. I called THIS store and although the girl was pleasant, after waiting for her to be freed up, she informed me she was not allowed to look for the red tagged fabric. I asked if they were slammed. and was completely willing to call back. The fabric is a print that you would see at a glance. (tiger chenille) simply walking passed the remnant table. Shame on Joann's!! Did you know that when Joann's decided to move their store in Redding, all of the current employees had to reapply for their jobs and almost none of them were rehired for the new store? All of that experience and knowledge let go? In their place, they hired young, experienced people that they could pay minimum wage. They are extremely slow, don't know fabric, can't answer sewing questions....... If there was another large fabric store in this area I would never step foot into Joann's again. I am so very disappointed in their business practices. I think it absolutely is age discrimination and I am disgusted by it. Just be sure you have a LOT of extra time when you go to Joann's because it takes forever to get fabric cut (they usually only have 2 inexperienced people on the cutting table) and THEN you get to go stand in the check-out line where where most of the time there are only 1 or 2 cashiers. First have to say the manager Linda is great. Very helpful and pleasant; she can't do enough for you. But, Beverly in fabric is a very unhappy woman. I think her face would break if she smiled. I was going to give her a nasty look, but she already had one. She was very rude, threw my fabric swatches at me and said several very nasty remarks. She either needs to take some happy pills or get a job away from the public. If you go into the store be nice to her, because she will not be nice to you. At least we can make the world a better place. read more

The last 3 times that I have been in this store to get fabric cut, I have waited a huge amount of time while the staff chitchat with the customer, which I'm ok with as long as they can do their job efficiently while conversing. However my experiences have been the opposite if that, if they aren't calling the numbers at warp speed, which by the way, you can't not get across the store in that time, you have just lost your order on your ticket, you have to wait wait wait for assistance due to a large volume by one customer or they're having the BEST conversation ever. I have left on 2 of these occasions and went elsewhere. When this is going on, why not call for more assistance. read more

The Joann's in my hometown is small and my friend and I were excited for a chance to check this one out. After driving almost 3 hours to this one in Redding my bestfriend needed to use the bathroom. I looked around while she went. She came out and informed me "the bathroom is foul! It was dirty, gross and there was toilet paper everywhere!" I commented "they've only been open about an hour this morning, that's weird, did they not even clean it last night?" Then we moved passed it and browsed the store. About 10 or 15 minutes later a lady approached my friend saying "excuse me I think you should get back in that bathroom right now and clean up the mess you made in there!" My friend was shocked and left speechless. I stepped up and politely explained that I did not see the bathroom but her immediate words to me upon exiting the restroom were explaining how dirty and gross it was. The lady continued to talk about how there was trash everywhere and it's dirty and disrespectful for a customer to do that to a place and asked "if it was so dirty when you went in there then why did you even use that bathroom?" My friend said, "quite frankly it's none of your business why I choose to use a restroom but if you must know, I've been driving 3 hours, it was either use that one or the men's." Then my friend asked the lady if she worked there (she had no name tag apron or anything showing she worked there.) Her answer was yes and because of how rude and disrespectful she was to both of us my friend asked if there was a manager or owner she could speak to, the lady said "I am the manager, my name is Kay Garcia and if you have a problem you can tell corporate, feel free to look the number up online" and she even gave us her employee number. My friend politely and calmly explained to the lady she felt very disrespected by her the whole time, she was scolding us for something we didn't do and using a rude tone of voice and then the lady proceeded to walk away and tell all other staff in the building about us, not sure what she was saying but we continued shopping and every time we came around a corner the lady was talking to a different staff member and pointing and laughing at us and whispering. We ended up buying a few things because of the long trip we took and as we go to check out, as luck would have it guess who is the cashier ringing us up? Yup, Kay Garcia, who we later found out is just a shift manager and not the general manager who she said was in Reno. She did somewhat apologize as we were walking out saying "sorry for the way she handled things and she's sorry for the state of the bathrooms they are always 'shitty' (her words not mine) and that they get paid very low wages and are expected to keep the bathrooms tidy too and she wishes a janitor was forced to come in and clean it with a toothbrush every night." We accepted her apology but also informed her we did intend to talk to her manager or corporate. She said "I hope you do, something needs to be done about those bathrooms." I don't think she realizes dirty bathrooms are not worth writing to corporate about but her attitude is! read more

Went to Joann Fabrics to get a piece of material 40 inch by 40 inch. Found what we needed and we were helped by Audrey I believe her name was. She was the manager and had attitude. We asked her to make sure it was straight before cutting and she told us she measured it. We told her once she was cutting that it was crooked but she didn't listen. When done we asked her to make sure it was 40 inch and she said it is way over 40 inch, we saw 36 inch. We asked her to make sure it was straight and got attitude. Came home equity and guess what.....it was crooked and short. Went back up the next day and had to exchange it. Waste of gas driving back and forth. The staff at this store do not care. read more

To be honest I'm suprised that everyone's commenting that they had a bad experience. I've been coming to the new location for about a year and it's a big improvement over the old location, Sure it's not as cozy but it's cleaner and has a much larger selection. Honestly since the JoAnne store moved over to the bigger building on Dana Drive the place has gone to the dogs. the only saving grace is they kept Kristos on, but he isnt always there so it seems only noobs are there now since all the old time crew they had that were solid are gone or let go for some reason. anyway i went in there awhile back for some Rub-n-buff crafting cream that i saw used on a project on YouTube. the guy said go to JoAnne's and get it, so i went and looked. Firstly they have nobody to help find anything. Then, when you go get somebody to help, they dont know what Rub-n-Buff is or what its used for. Then they go ask a supervisor, and SURPRISE ! the supervisor has no idea what it is or what its used for either. So completely let down we go over to Michaels on Hilltop, ask a clerk that is right there nearby if they have Rub-n-Buff- "Sure its right over there at the end of the aisle" so the moral of the story if you need crafting supplies or framing or anything like that go to Michaels. read more

Don't drive 75 miles and forget your coupons. There might be 12 taped to the door but they "don't have any". When another customer suggested I go take a picture of one and use it the clerk evidently heard because she went over and started with a large black marker to line thru the bar code on all of them. I have always loved shopping at JoAnn's Fabrics, but a troubling trend finally became the last straw for me this previous week. I arrived at JoAnn's as usual with my sale paper & coupons in hand. After shopping for nearly an hour to replenish my sewing/craft room stock I checked out and went home. As I was putting items away, I discovered some fairly significant discrepancies necessitating a 60 mile round trip the next day for corrections and a refund. The very next weekend, I returned to JoAnn's Fabrics for some last minute items & arrived at the checkout counter with a total of appx. $30.00 in sale items. ( I had checked the prices carefully!) However, I was told the total was nearly $80.00!! I had to go over every one of my purchases right then and there to eliminate the questionably advertised items that were on the same exact shelf as sale items and/or extremely similar near a sale sign. Even then, when I returned home I found I had been charged twice for one item, was given 30% off an item which actually was supposed to be 50% off according to the sign 3 inches away and the charge for one of the eliminated items had not been removed at all!! I live over 30 miles away and it is going to cost me time and gas $$ to go back again!! JoAnn's has become more and more a place where you will want to purchase only one or two items and depart! Just make sure you check to make CERTAIN you get the right items at the right price before leaving. read more
