This place has a lot of stuff for arts and crafts but it comes in handy when you need something you can use in other than arts and crafts. The only negatives I found are the lack of employees to help you find something and I am sure regulars know exactly where to find what they are looking for but for a first timer it can be frustrating. All I can say is sign up for their emails and I also get their mail to which they send useful coupons. They have a student discount to which you can sign up for as well and teachers + military get a discount! I get my yarn here for super cheap and on days they don't seem to have sales, the price still turns out to be the same so either way I find myself getting a good deal here. The holiday display in the first few aisles is always worth to look over but some of their stuff can be very pricy like a skull going for $70!?? I had to pick up an item from this location because it was my only choice between the two locations in town. I placed the order online for an easy pickup, but once I arrived I had to stand in line as long as I would have if I had just went in and picked up the item myself. I did a curbside pickup for Joann's today! The app said there was specific parking for curbside pickup but I couldn't find it. I went inside for my pickup and the store is very spacious and lots of great items inside. The cashier was super helpful and very nice. Overall pretty good experience. read more

l was in late Dec and bought almost 240.00 worth of fabric and notions. I was making a tie blanket. The Mateo purchased was garbags. It was shredding as I was tying it. Brought it back to the store and I spoke to the General Manager. She told me I had no clue what I was doing and told me it was my fault. I was appalled at her response and attitude. I have been sewing longer than this woman has been breathing. I called the corp office and they did nothing! No surprise there. I always like coming here for my craft needs. I usually only buy thread and cross stitch related items, but depending on the holiday or seasons I'll browse the seasonal items. They have a great selection of fabrics with beautiful colors and designs and if I was more talented I would buy it. The employees are always friendly but the lines always seem very long and slow going. I appreciate employees who want to talk to their customers but when it's holding up the line it's too much. read more

On January 15 in the afternoon I went to this store looking for fabric to recover my dining room chairs so I needed quite a bit. Nothing I liked was on sale so I asked the fabric salesperson if a sale was coming up on my choice. She claimed not to know but suggested I get on the stores mailing list. I sat in my car and went on the stores website only to find that the fabric WAS on sale. I went back in the store and told the fabric salesperson what I'd found. She said 'Oh, we don't always put the signs up'. What the....? I said 'That's just wrong on so many levels'. I'd asked her if this particular fabric was on sale. I did end up getting the fabric of my choice but this was one of the laziest salesperson I've encountered. read more

Crafters heaven. They have a lot of products and classes available. I love their clearance section, especially after season items. I always find great deals on decor items and craft kits. I have to say the last few times I was in the store the customer service has left a lot of be desired. Today there was one cashier and she was trying to check out a customer and answer the phone. We ended up waiting five minutes. The magnet came to the cash register to approve a discount and instead of helping clear the line; she told the cashier to hurry it up. read more

I have ordered from the store on numerous occasions and each time within two weeks of my order they tell me the product is no longer in stock. But when I walk into the store I find the product on the shelf and have to purchase it directly from the store. With the virus going around I cannot do this. I usually love the store, however today I did not. The lady in the back cut fabric for me and she was VERY rude. Her name was Cheryl. I will never get fabric from there ever again and I will never let anyone I know get fabric from here. All she did was question how much I wanted and why for 20 minutes. She kept rolling her eyes while I was talking to get her to cut it. It was not a great experience at all. The only good part was the cashier who checked me out. She was extremely friendly! Frustrated- normally I have great service and the employees are very friendly. Today I called to see if they had a particular item. I inquired and the woman told me they did and when asked how wide it was she said, "she had no clue." If customer service is a priority, which should be, the employee should offered to check the size for me. I'm not a crafter, so the problems that other reviewers listed were a little lost on me. I was here to look for two things, and I didn't find either one. This store was just a mess the day I was there. There were boxes blocking the aisles, and things were strewn on the floor. The aisles are also very narrow, so narrow in fact, that it is impossible for more than one person to be in an aisle. This means, of course, that I had to wait to go down the aisle that I wanted (FYI - every single other person wanted that aisle too). I found the prices to be very high. I don't think I've ever been to a store like this where you have to take a number like you do at the DMV, to get what you want. That is exactly what folks had to do to get fabric cut. It made me glad I'm not a crafter. There were only two cashiers, and there were a lot of people, so the wait to check out was a little long. I only bought one item, and it wasn't what I went there for. All-in-all, I'm pretty stoked that I don't have to shop here very often. I really like what this store has to offer but I probably will not be shopping in the summerville store anymore because everytime I go there the restrooms are out-of- order. I come from out of state, and jo-ann fabric has always been my favorite store of all time to visit. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I'm at a Joann Fabrics. When I found out that they were opening this location near my home in Summerville I was ecstatic. However that excitement quickly turned sour after only a few visits to the new store, the wait times at the cutting counter are astronomical. And yet every single time I'm waiting to get a piece of fabric cut there's always employees going on break or leaving. I've made several comments to employees about it and they just say that management won't allow more people to work at the cutting counter. So after regularly waiting 30 minutes or more for fabric to be cut, I then always spend at least 15 minutes at the register because inevitably there is only one, maybe two, registers open. Because of the amount of employees walking around, seemingly doing nothing, and the giant amount of wait times that I have to put up with in order to buy something from the store I now only make a trip to the store when I absolutely have to, my favorite store of all time has become a giant chore on my to-do list that I dread. read more

Today my experience put me over the edge and I will not be returning to JoAnn's. When I heard we were getting a JoAnn's in Summerville I was ecstatic! I usually drive to North Charleston or Mt P. I have frequented the JoAnn's since they opened. My experience is always the same long lines at the register with one cashier- maybe two if you're lucky. Long fabric cutting lines with usually one person working. Today I went in to buy a piece of foam. I spent 20 minutes deciphering the different foam pieces that were disorganized on a rack which was labeled with a price per dimension, but not individually marked in any way. After comparing the rolls to one another I found one about the size I needed and went to check out. One register was open with a long line. When I got to the register the clerk informed me that even though I was buying the whole thing (which appeared to be priced on the rack) I would need to have it measured then get back in line and wait again to check out. Ok, so I walk over to the cutting line and customers were scattered everywhere just waiting. There were at least 6 people ahead of me. Instead of waiting another 20 min to have my foam measured then wait another 20 min to checkout (again), I left. I called and spoke with the manager who told me that corporate dictates how many cashiers and fabric cutters they are allowed to have and that corporate would not allow them to put a sign up to better clarify the process for foam pieces (getting them measured even if you don't need them cut prior to checkout). She gave many excuses and did not apologize. She blamed corporate for the bad customer service in HER store. I will gladly make the drive to the competitors who never have long lines and who put their customers first. read more

I needed to purchase 4 packages of button cover kits. Joann's only had 2 on the shelf. One of the customer service clerks (Ruth) saw me searching for 2 more packs that might have gotten mixed up on the shelf. She diligently searched to find more (the computer showed that there should be more in the store). After searching the shelves up and down and searching in the back of the store, no success. She checked with the Charleston location and they had plenty. She had some sent to the Summerville location and called me today to say that they were in. But, find that I still wind up driving 10 miles to AC Moore or Michaels to avoid the long, long check out lines at JoAnns. Too often see see folks in the lines who just give up.. lay their merchandise down and leave. I almost did so today. Why a store of that size cannot call an additional cashier to the front when there are 15 people waiting to check out .. is beyond me! Know overhead is a big issue.. but without adequate staffing.. folks cannot buy your products. Someone is not "minding the store"!!!! read more
