I am telling you that the ladies in the framing department are just outstanding. When I get something framed I definitely need a professional because I can get some crazy ideas. They let me look and try everything, then guide me to where I need to be. I was able to do the last one quickly because I was under a time constraint ( they were about to close) and that actually is my favorite. Yesterday I noticed that the back of a painting had come loose on one side and I knew I wasn't capable of repairing it. The incredibly nice blonde lady ( sorry, I didn't catch her name, but I think she's a manager) said walk around the store for 15 and come back. She fixed it beautifully! I went in just browsing and hoping to find some clearance items post-holiday. I didn't have much luck with the North Charleston location so I was deeply impressed by the amount of holiday inventory remaining at the Mt Pleasant location. I even found some items that I didn't think about but when I saw the price, couldn't pass them up. I was happy with my purchases plus even saved on some cards I was eyeing before the holidays. Checkout was fast and Rhonda (I think?..had the cutest potato pin!) was patient and helped set up a Micheal's Rewards Account for me. This store is on its last leg and these are the reasons why. First, the customer service is not good. I recently went into the store and asked for assistance for someone to unlock the cabinet for the spray paint (it's locked to prevent kids from spray painting things and themselves) and the employee stated that it was already unlocked because she had just unlocked it. Now, I knew that it wasn't unlocked because I could tell she just didn't want to help me. I said alright, no problem and headed to the paint. Nope. Lo and behold!, the mighty paint cabinet was locked. Instead of going back to alert her, I just left. The proper thing to have done in this situation would have just been to walk over there with me but I digress. Before that, I asked for help in the framing section and again, I received minimal effort and guidance and it was very apparent that the employee did not want to help me. Also it can be like pulling teeth to find someone to help you find something or answer your question. Next, the inventory is lacking. The first time I went into this store I thought that they were renovating which would explain the empty shelves and out of stock items. Nope. This store is usually out of stock of a lot of items and its just very bare bones. In fact, it just seems like its struggling. Lastly, checkout/machines are terrible. Michaels switched to using self checkout machines. While this can be a great way to modernize things and make the check out process more efficient, the experience is the exact opposite. For starters, its not obvious that people can use the self checkout machines and as a result, I am constantly saying things like, ma'am are you going to use that machine, etc.. Next, when doing self checkout, I usually have a problem where the computer freezes or you have to literally pound on the screen to register. It is a hassle and its just now an unpleasant experience. I will say that this store does carry Colorshot spray paint (an absolute wonderful spray paint by the way) which is one of the only reasons I go to get it right then and there but other than that, I hate to say it, most of these items can be found online (cheaper) and without the hassle of having to deal with unhelpful employees and the whole checking out fiasco. read more

Terrible service. The ONE person at the framing counter left to let someone from UPS in and disappeared for 15 minutes. When she returned, she continued helping the other person in line. That's totally fine, but she didn't even recognize anyone else or redirect them elsewhere. It was 30 minutes of standing in line before Veronica ever said one word to anyone. read more

Retail has really fallen flat as of late. My son and I came to Michael's to find a Halloween house, which we buy one every year. Upon finding the one we wanted I noticed it was cheaper to purchase the same item online but the rude cashier wouldn't do a price change. She was more interested in watching a movie on her phone at the front cash wrap. I ended up purchasing online and checked out by one of the sales associates, yet still had to wait for the front cashier to verify I could leave with the item. She clearly did not want to be there that day and it must have been a very interesting show she was watching. read more

The framing department in this store is 12/10. The work that they have done for me is amazing. Today I went in as I've been working on a really intense framing job as a gift for my girlfriend. I truthfully had no idea what I was doing, and Meesh, in the framing department walked me through everything, offering advice, and taking time out of their busy day to help me with all of my less than knowledgable questions. I am an employee at Michaels in Beachwood, OH. (Store #4937) My parents live in Mount Pleasant and this is their Michaels store. We come to visit every summer and spring break, and we always come to Michael's on our trip. This past trip (July 4-13, 2024) we stopped in twice. Joy was there and let me tell you, she's amazing! She recognized me! 1 or 2 visits a year, and this young lady remembers me! I can only imagine how her regular shoppers feel when she's working. I come from a pretty amazing store, but Joy's team ALWAYS has a different setup to flex things. I admit, I copy! Her store is ALWAYS clean, always is wonderfully merchandised, and her staff is awesome. I am really hoping that Joy can see this, or her DM. Joy, you are amazing. Thank you! read more

They have a really good selection of different items here and I have always been able to find exactly what I am looking for. The staff here is very knowledgeable and helpful. read more

The framing shop gets 4 stars. I broke the glass is one frame I had, and the other I needed the diploma switched out (it was previously framed and sealed by Michael's). They did not charge me for re-doing the diploma, and the custom-cut glass was inexpensive. Their turn-around time was just a few days. read more

The one thing that drives me nuts is that there is never anyone on the floor when I need help. I can walk around the store searching for someone for a good 10 minutes. Michael's has your basic craft gear. The location in Mt Pleasant is fairly small so a lot of items are seasonal, like apparently contact paper... They have yarn, baking supplies, beads and jewlery making stuff, toys and also offer custom framing. They always have a 40% off one item coupon. Just go to the website or get it from the app. Just show the coupon on your phone and you are good to go! I love a good mobile coupon. I have been to Michaels a few times where there is a line to check out around the store but they usually have a few check-out lines open and I think this is only a problem around Christmas. I used to work here for about 3 years before I moved on to something a little more my style so this is an unbiased review and not a shaming - this is strictly a review based on someone who is on the outside now. The location is extremely convenient. It is located off of HWY 17 across from Walmart; among other stores such as Office Depot, TJ Maxx, a shoe store and more. The pricing of the craft supplies is about average considering that's what they specialize in. The store offers classes that can be taken on jewelry making, cake decorating, painting/drawing, etc. The store also hosts birthday parties for children which is a new twist on getting kids off of their iPads/iPhones to be creative and enjoy their birthday. Store associates are kind and will walk you to any product that you can't find or want to know more about. The only downside is that most of the associates are very good in only one area such as knitting - so if you ask about what kind of paint to use for a project, they may not be able to help you in that arena. The prices are affordable and most all of the departments have magnificent selections. I am an artist so I have to be honest that the fine art section of the store is lacking in supplies. There are other places to get these supplies of course but the lack of certain colors or paint or colored pencils, etc can be a downside to any fine artist. Returns are easy and you can even return gift cards if you would rather have the cash which is awesome and I wish more stores did this. While the staff is not pushy or earning commission off of what they recommend to customers to purchase, they are for the most part friendly and willing to help you out the best way they can. As with all of retail stores, items are often misplaced or placed in areas that are marked down when they are actually full price which is frustrating for management and customers alike. Went in because of their advertised 70% off sale, and the shelf had about three things on it that were actually 70% off. Everything else was 40%.... additionally I get to the register and check out with 20+ items and get home and realized 3 things were scanned twice!!! They also tossed all my glass items in plastic bags, not wrapped. Luckily none get damaged.... they need a manager and if they have one they need a better one!! read more

the worst selection of yarn i have ever seen. 99% acrylics. every standard yarn i look for was absent. Only on option for 100% wool and it was worsted. No other wool option, so cotton/silk blend, no alpaca blends... i mean the other stores that carry yarn in charleston arent much better but the store didnt have any of the things i know i could find at the michaels in west ashley. i left empty handed :( read more

I always go to this Michaels and love it! I'm a teacher and really appreciate the 15% discount given. I have never been asked to provide a teacher I.D. so when I strolled in today and was asked for my teacher ID was surprised. I literally just gave it in yesterday because I was required to by my school. I told the woman how I have never been asked before and was wondering if she could make an exception this time and I will have a pay stub or something next time. She refused and then said "I don't know what school you work at because everyone else has their I.D." I found that very rude because it's like she didn't believe that I was a teacher. That put a bad taste in my mouth and I may be frequenting this store less because of that. read more
