Went to Joanne's a couple of days before NYE for a gel manicure. Her service was excellent. We were 4 people, so I had to wait a little bit, but I can't recommend her enough. The service was detailed and my nails lasted for almost 4 weeks. I used to go to twin sister and my gel nails don't let more than 10 days. I was surprised these lasted so long. Color selection could be a bit more varied, but I will take quality over quantity. read more

Eh, I wanted to like this place and tried it a few times, but won't be going back for the following reasons: I've had four gel manicures here, and each time, within a week, it starts peeling. On my last pedicure, she dug into the nail bed to the point it bled. It stopped bleeding, and she dug in again. Turned into an infection after a couple weeks. This required a trip to the podiatrist for an injection. Try Passion Nails (San Rafael) or Zenbi Nails (SF) for a better service. read more

This is seriously the North Bay's hidden gem. I have been to high end spas, salons and everything in between, and have yet to have any of them rival the care and quality of the services I get here, every time. The pedicures include a flower water bath and hot stone massage, that is not the perfunctory "slap in some lotion" routine that usually comes with a Pedi. And, when a fancy salon cancelled a leg wax I had scheduled for weeks in advance the day before I was leaving for a beach vacation, I discovered there is a waxing service here too. The wax was perfect, and I was delighted to discover NO INGROWNS, like I often experience a week or so after a wax from elsewhere. The place is clean, quiet , calming and conveniently located. She will flex her schedule to meet your needs if you have an event to attend. She ensures you're out of there in a timely manner and will open up early around 8-ish if you let her know in advance. She's there promptly in the AM to wait on you, so if you're running late, please call her...common courtesy. If paying cash, she will give a whopping 5% discount, and that goes for many salons/businesses these days. Owners like cash, who doesn't? I have been going to Joanne's Nails for years and Holly has been doing a good job with pedicures and manicures for me all along. I don't use acrylic or silk, and bring my own favorite OPI colors. I had my nails done at Joanne's a little over a week ago. I chose this place because they were conveniently located and when I called, was told that they offer dip powder manicures. Unfortunately, they only offer a few colors in the dip. Maybe 10 colors. I've been doing dip manicures at another salon for several months (maybe 5 or 6 times total) and noticed that the manicurist at Joanne's salon did far fewer steps in the process than my last salon. She did 2 or 3 dips, whereas, the previous salon did 5-6 dips (including a clear base dip and a clear finish dip). The difference really shows. These nails aren't nearly as strong and the color saturation is lacking near the cuticle line. She also finished with a top coat of clear gel polish which started peeling off 2 days later. It's the wrong type of product to put over the dip powder and it doesn't adhere well. I've also had the powder chip off in spots. At my previous salon, I could go 3 weeks between manicures and they would look just as good as they did on day 1. However, within days of my manicure at Joanne's, they already began to look quite worn with chipping and peeling. Also, the salon felt really old, not very clean, and, the saddest part, there is a HUGE fish in a filthy, disgusting aquarium that isn't remotely big enough to house him. Nothing in the tank but a giant fish and incredibly murky water. A child in the salon was putting his hands on the tank taunting the fish and the fish kept ramming itself against the glass. Not AT ALL part of a relaxing spa experience. read more

WORST NAIL/HAIR SALON I HAVE EVER BEEN TO!!!!!! Pictures will be attached, and if i could give them less stars I WOULD. This might be a lengthy comment but I advise anyone that is thinking about going to this salon, STAY FAR AWAY! I'll start by saying that I made this nail appt a week in advance. I get to the salon, first apt of the day at 9:00 am and im greeted by a lady that is 8 months pregnant. She says to me good morning, Henry (which is the person I made the apt with) isnt answering the phone, but he is supposed to work today, can I start taking your acrylics off? (first off this lady is fucking 8 months pregnant, im pretty sure no one pregnant is supposed to be inhaling all those fumes) but im like.... ok? (BTW I PARKED MY CAR IN FRONT OF THE SALON) So then we sit down I start to ask her how much they charge for their services because I had gotten these nails before that looked like shit too and I wanted just gel on my natural nail.... She tells me that would be $35 and $45 for acrylics but said she would do it for me for $40. I need to tell you here that these prices are $35 gel manicure.. $45 acrylic set.. Now im from VEGAS and ive gotten my nails done millions of times. A fucking manicure means they are going to push your cuticles and clean up your nails, shape them, etc.. I was complaining to her that the last place I went to didnt do it and it upset me because I paid for that service.. She tells me oh ya in the Bay you have to tell us to do that service for you or we wont know??? TF??? What am I paying for here? but im like ok i dont really care she isnt doing my nails idgaf. She starts taking my nails off...... starts taking a sharp tool and popping my ACRYLICS off... im sitting there making faces and she asks me does this hurt, I then tell her yes and she proceeds. I soon had to tell her thats not how you are supposed to take off acrylics and she was like ohh ya we should soak them. at this point i tell her to call Henry again to see if he picks up the phone cause I am pissed off. She gets the acetone to start soaking my nails and then asks me. When you get your nails done in Vegas do they do your manicure before or after they do your nails (now im even more disgusted, I dont know how that isnt common sense thats all imma say) HENRY DOESNT PICK UP. she is dipping my nails in acetone for 30 seconds, taking them out shaving them down putting them back, BTW HER NAME IS HOLLY (PREGNANT LADY DOING SHITTY ASS NAILS). I had to then ask her UGHM DO YOU EVEN DO NAILS, DO YOU HAVE A LICENSE TO BE DOING NAILS. Im fucking furious at this point, when i show you guys the pictures you will understand. This lady had my nails bending back, paper thin all messed up im sickkk just thinking about it writing the review. Im done with her touching my nails now (completely fed up) tell her to call Henry again and see where he is. She walks towards me with a tray in her hand with manicure tools on it and I almost flipped I told her there was no way she was doing that to my nails i was soooo serious. Holly is not certified to do nails and this shop is just such a disgrace. IT IS 9:30 NOW.. HENRY IS STILL NOT HERE I wait ten more minutes and im like Im just gonna leave its 9:40 he still isnt here and i dont have anymore change to put in. Holly tells me oh Ill put some change in for you dont worry. I say okay fine if you want to. Finally Henry walks in at 9:50, happy af smiling at me with a fresh ass drink in his hand like MF YOU REALLY TOOK YOUR MF TIME. Walks towards me, then has the audacity to ask me how i'm doing? ... like .... NOT GREAT.... my nails fucking hurt like a bitch they looks like shit stains.. tf im not doing good. He starts my nails... BTW now we have to do acrylic set because she messed them up so bad... so he does my whole acrylic set paints them and then does my cuticles after (yes you guys... he fucking tried to do my cuticles after he already put my nails on the cuticle he should have pushed back. and it looked like he literally has never done that in his life. Now he is done with my nails they look alright I PERSONALLY DONT LIKE THEM THEY ARE THICK AF AND WIDE WHICH I TOLD HIM I DIDNT WANT. ended up just leaving unsatisfied with outcome and they knew but i was so ready to get out of there i just said whatever I will shape them myself when i get home. Get to register to pay finally.... THIS IS THE CHERRY ON TOP YALLL SO LISTEN UP HE TELLS ME OKAY SO YOUR TOTAL TODAY IS $53... LOL TF Holly gets up walks towards us and says well I told you that the acrylics were gonna be $45 which she went back on her word cause she told me she would do it for me for $40 originally. but i let that go cause I could already see how this business was running things. Then I ask to explain what the other $8 is for she says I told you the cuticle pushing was an extra charge and I put $2 in the meter for you....SO HENRY WAS 50 MINUTES LATE BUT THEY CHARGE ME.. CHARGE ME TO CUT NO CUTICLES.. UGH FUCK THAT!!! read more

I can't tell you how much I love this salon! It might not look like much at first glance but the service you will get here rivals any of the high end salons I've tried in Marin and San Francisco. Trust me. I've tried them all. DiPetro Todd, Coopers Alley, Heroes and Heroines.... You name it, if it's upscale, I've given it a go. I found the salon via my Housemate when I was looking for a place to get a mani/pedi. Turns out that my manicurist used to work at the place in Sausalito that was my regular nail spa. Her Sister used to do my nails. Top Notch job. She knew EXACTLY how I wanted a natural shape to my manicure and she did more than one coat of the gel polish. Lots of color options too. The icing on the cake is her Husband Ken!!!! I needed a last minute root touch up. He was able to take me right away. I have dark brown hair, and although it's not complicated I'm always concerned about the quality of product. He uses Trico (sp?) color which I know is good. I had a cut and color at another high end salon about 4 weeks before and the stylist did a TERRIBLE job on my cut. I have very thick, long hair and wanted a nice layered look. She was awful and screwed up my bangs to boot. Ken fixed my cut, my color was perfect and he knows how to style hair! I know you would walk past this place and think "Oh just another nail joint", but trust me Ken is awesome!!! I have already been back for a shampoo and blow out (sooooooo awesome.... He REALLY takes his time!). and plan on making it weekly if I can. Go see Ken for a cut and color... He's my new official stylist! read more

...I highly recommend this salon!! Henry does an EXCELLENT job with hair color, cuts, styles....and Brazilian Blowouts! I was originally just coming here to only get my nails and eyebrows done...but after letting Henry do my coloring....then straighting... and realizing what an AWESOME job he had done... I am switching to this "ONE-STOP SHOP" from here on!! Holly is also VERY GOOD WITH Nails and Waxing...I am really impressed with this Salon in Marin. My first time coming here! Amazing leg exfoliation (that smelled amazing!) during the pedicure, followed by hot stone massage. They did my arcylic fill at the same time as my pedicure, so I was in and out quickly. And they are open on Sundays, as a lot of other nail places aren't. Would come again! read more

I was waiting for a tire to be repaired, and showed up at Joanne's as a walk-in. They were so friendly, and I ended up getting a mani-pedi and a bikini wax too. Very affordable and done skillfully (i've been many places). I've been looking for a new salon, and I'll definitely go back. I looked at the other (some bad) reviews here and they are old. Holly is rude and seems to not know common courtesy. The couple times I have gotten acrylics here they always end up breaking within a week, and that never has happened anywhere else. I went in for her to fix them, and she got extremely angry-while in the middle of handling a customer- because I wasnt going to pay for the nails she fixed since its her fault she cant do them correctly. Horrible attitude and by the way, her little workers suck at doing nails as well. Some lady was filing my nails aggressively and ended up making my finger bleed, and all she did was look up at me and then look back down & continue. You get what you pay for. If your on a budget this might be the place for you. If not then you might want to go somewhere else. The service was OK nothing horrible. I got a decent Mani for $9 and my child got a pedi for $15. For $24 we left satisfied, but have both experienced better, although at a higher price. The service there was fine but they messed my nails up, they didn't get the shape I wanted, the nail was not fully painted, the sides of my nail weren't fully covered, my natural nail was not fully covered, and I saw a huge cockroach on their wall. This is an awesome place, for what it is. If you're looking for a fancy spa, or to languidly relax in a cushy chair, this is not it. But if you just want your nails done well and quickly, and for a very reasonable price - this is the place. I got a coupon in the mail for a manicure and pedicure for $20, looked at the previous reviews, and got worried. But I figured, what can go wrong for $20? I was not disappointed.
