I was looking for pumpkin patches near by to get the kids out and to do something a little fun this year. Found Joan's Farm on google. It was free to get in and there would be activities. One way in and one way out. Lots of parking. All dirt. So, make sure you wear shoes that you don't care too much about. The place was pretty crowded around 4pm. However, there were a lot of ppl leaving as well. Tons of different size pumpkins. There were animals on the farm as well. We didn't get to walk around the whole farm because it was a bit crowded. Kids were happy with taking a few pics with the props and picking out a pumpkin. Will probably come back next year. read more

Great pumpkin patch for the kids - lots of different and FREE activities to choose from - didn't feel we were getting nickel and dimed on attractions. Kids liked the teepee, different building structures, maze, and various animals to see/pet. There were lots of big oaks to find shade, as well. Pumpkin selection was awesome. Lots of normal orange pumpkins for carving - of all sizes. We really went wild with the more unique grey/blue, white, and textured pumpkins for fall decorations. I enjoyed coming here this holiday season. The patch is located in the cuts, we thought we passed it at first. I love that there were animals there and the pumpkins were separated by size. Once we walked in we spent some time with the cows. There was also a shed to walk through and tour but we skipped that and went for the pumpkins. There were some nice photo props and a train ride for the kids, as well as a snack bar. The patch is large with plenty of space to social distance. I was on the lookout for a pumpkin patch to enjoy this Halloweekend and was so happy with my decision to come to Joan's. While making the drive over, they have a ton of signs guiding you toward a large parking lot that connects directly to the patch. There is no entrance or parking fee. Everything is cash only. Joan's is extremely family-friendly; there are plenty of photo-op places, a food stand, portable toilets/handwashing stations, and plenty of places to sit. They are also dog-friendly as long as you clean up after your pet and keep them leashed. While we were there, it also looked like there were two birthday parties happening at the edge of the patch. After purchasing a $25 wristband, you have access to a bunch of inflatable slides, a corn maze, a shooting shall, a playground area, and a gem-washing station. You are able to purchase also able to purchase food for the animals (sheep, cows, horses, and donkeys) at the pumpkin stall. I ended up not going for the wristband but instead took my time looking around and admiring all the animals. They had plenty of pumpkin and gourd options to take home with you- we ended up taking a beautiful medium-sized white pumpkin home for $5. As other comments have noted, it is dusty but it makes sense considering it's a farm + pumpkin patch. I would highly recommend coming over for a fun autumn activity. read more

It's in a nice location with a good view. There's a good amount of things for kids to do for a reasonable price. I wish they had a better selection of food at the shack. Also the pumpkins that came with the deal there was a very tiny selection and most were squishy but we still found one ! read more

This is a great pumpkin patch for families. Plenty of activities for the kids, like jumpy houses, pony rides, hay rides, a little tractor train and play area. There is also Plenty of shade for the adults. They have a lot of seating and picnic tables for people and the staff is pretty friendly. ATM's are on site. There are reasonable food options including nachos, sandwiches, burgers, hotdogs, etc. There is also a building selling sweets and treats, including ice cream. There are plenty of pumpkins for all ages and a good time will be had by all. I'd definitely recommend this pumpkin patch to others. read more

Entry fee -$2 per adult + you pay for each of the ride/activity inside. Super fun day for the family especially if you have them littles . Hay ride .. small buggy train ride jump house.. a wooden maze pony ride feed those billy goats.. donkeys braying and pumpkins all over They have a gem stone panning spot - chuck it , nothing in that dirt. It's definitely more expensive and more far out that the other farms you'd pass getting here. The pumpkins were pretty squished and picked out already and some were even rotting. Brought my god kids up here on Saturday and it was an absolute blast! This farm had plenty of activities for all ages to truly enjoy. I got 3/4 kids wrist bands for unlimited activities... figured it would be easier to do it that way. It's $20 per wristband. Id recommend going a little earlier in the day as it seemed to get more crowded as the day progressed. The kids loved the big slide, maze, and the train! Also got to enjoy feeding the animals. They have a snack bar with food but will probably be a good idea to just bring a small cooler with water and snacks since the lines seemed long. For such a minimal amount and how much the kids were able to enjoy, on top of free parking, Would recommend this place. read more

Joan's Farm and Pumpkin Patch - long a Livermore favorite - is a secret no more, with bus loads of pumpkin hunters from all over the Bay Area (and beyond) coming to pick over the enormous pumpkin selection and take part in the many activities on offer - from pony and hay-cart rides to face painting and gem mining to a maze and several carnival games for kids. Joan's is open every day in October from 9 to 6; we went earlier this afternoon, taking advantage of the cool 70s weather and light breeze (it can get quite dusty out here in the far East Bay). There is ample parking, including an overflow parking lot. Joan's has food available and lots of activities for kids - some free, like the maze, others paid, like pony rides. The pumpkins are arranged by size, and wheelbarrows are thoughtfully made available for your carting pleasure. But many folks prefer to just carry their pumpkins - much more fun that way! You pay for pumpkins by size at the "register" out front on your way out - the large ones cost more than $10, the small ones are $4. Couple of other tips: --- park in the overflow lot rather than hunting for gaps in the main parking lot - it's not much further from the entrance and it is much easier to get to your car later when you're hauling a load of pumpkins. --- there is a photo op area right near the entrance - just a couple of hay bales with a few pumpkins strategically placed, but great for a family portrait! --- there is a small field right opposite the cash register with the littlest pumpkins scattered about. Very busy last Sunday afternoon. We went around 2pm and it was packed! Folks were wearing masks though. Beautiful array of pumpkins. No blacksmith this year but there were some antique cars/hot rods on display. There's were some donkeys that were extremely over fed or pregnant Kids were desperately trying to feed them with purchased feed but they were not interested! This is a great place for kids; lots of friendly staff and all kids are happy (except for those that were crying because they didn't want to leave). Unlike some typical places, this one has a country museum, and a small "old town" that resembled the western country life. Their corn maze was made up of orange nets (no fault of theirs as we're going through a drought) but it was big and fun. They have some nice picnic areas, and also a snack shop; but everything is cash only (don't worry if you didn't bring cash; they have an ATM). The kids were able to pick their own pumpkin and they have lots of them; the elementary kids can get a small pumpkin or a gord. This place has free admission!?!? I thought we for sure accidentally snuck in but nope! Turns out you can come in and enjoy the scenery for free! Everything else is gonna cost ya but the prices are completely reasonable. There are, of course, pumpkins but they also have a cute/tiny little store that sells delicious baggies of yum yums! Sweets, savory snacks, sweet and savory snacks! We brought dried pineapple, salt water taffy, and candy corn (''tis the season). The pineapple was particularly yummy and my husband won't stop talking about it. In addition to the goodies you can purchase tickets to the corn maze, jump house, huge slide, and train. Joan's Farm and Pumpkin Patch is a bit further out than G&M Farm, but the experience is SO much better! It far exceeded my expectations. This is the perfect location for families and toddlers, because there's more activities catered to them than G&M. Parking is free. It's also free admission on weekdays, but $2 on weekends. If you decide to go on a weekend, you will get a $1 redeemable token! I used it on a small sugar pumpkin, which is about $3. I felt the value for all that they offered far exceeded the price to get in. Aside from picking pumpkins and various gourds, you can also visit the small antique museum to get a glimpse of the old western town feel and feed the animals on the far end of the lot. Free activities include the fort maze and fenced-in kids play area towards the front. Otherwise, each activity (gem panning, hay rides, etc.) are $5 each. I'd say you could easily get 2 or more hours out of your admission, maybe more if your kids are energetic. The place open at 9am, but we arrived there around 10pm and it was already crowded! They separate fields for small and large pumpkins. Considering it is one of the busiest and most popular pumpkin patches around here, i was expecting more. We are still relatively new to the east bay. I'm used to the HMB ones where you have huge patches of pumpkins. This one has really small selection. Pretty expensive. Really not many beautiful photo ops. We were just there for photos and pumpkins. In terms of COVID SAFETY - it says to wear a mask, only about 10-20% of people are in masks. And the guy who you pay to is UNMASKED and doesn't care! I think this place could be better but if you are looking for an authentic down to earth non rinky dink pumpkin patch this is your place. This is an actual farm converted to a patch which I love during the Halloween season. Something about the fall crisp air and seeing the widespread pumpkins makes my heart sing! Even in CA where the fall crisp air is more like 90 degree air but I digress. When you park make sure you remember its a farm so its dirt ground. Wear comfy sneakers as the ground is uneven gravel as you pull up. There are wheelbarrows everywhere which I thought was a good idea. We personally do not get pumpkins at the patch because we can get them cheaper at the grocery store but we loved seeing the wheelbarrows for that just in case feeling. The activities I thought were overpriced so this is why there is a 3 star. $25 for a wristband is really steep when you are a bay area resident with two children. We were not going to pay $100 to play everything so we picked the corn maze and fed the animals. Now the corn maze is what got the 3 stars for us! I got so nervous and anxious with excitement going into the maze and we found other families laughing and having a good nervous chuckle right along with us. It was challenging enough and fun enough that we wanted to go again! Its funny because when we bought the tickets to go inside the young fella said it would take a good 15 minutes to go through the entire inside but I think it took us about double that! The refreshing feeling of knowing you accomplished the maze thought was cool. There are plenty of spots to take pictures of your youngins which we took advantage of. The play area in the middle was a huge hit with our 7 and 3 year old. My 7 year old made instant friends and played on a thingie that goes round and round and he laughed as he tumbled off quite often. My 3 year old had a blast on the rolling hill car toys. We then stopped for shaved ice which wasn't that bad if you split one (I think they were $3?) We then fed the goats for a few quarters. Stick your quarter in the "vending machine" of fuel for the goals and get a handful of whatever the meal is for the day. Stick your hand in the fence and the animal happily slops it away. Fun! We read on Yelp that the littles would get a free pint sized pumpkin to go in the field next to the entrance/exit but when we inquired the folks said that was not an option. Honestly we were disappointed and figured they wanted more folks to buy pumpkins instead of maybe come and just take one but we figured maybe if we got the wristband next year we could get a free pint size to take home as a parting gift? Just a thought. Anywho, we had fun which is the point. We came home dirty and tired but in a good way. We will possibly venture back next year! Oh yeah, port-o-potty bathrooms and a picnic area! Actual pumpkin patch is quaint. Spread out with activities for family and photo opportunity. Sparse pumpkin options compared to other patches. "Rides" are cute, but over priced. I would have given this location 3 stars if not for the TERRIBLE logistics of the property. The gate for entry into parking is only large enough for ONE CAR at a time so getting in and out is a NIGHTMARE. Road into property is quite long so this bottle neck causes a nightmare. Took us 20 minutes to exit the parking lot. No attendants directing traffic so it's the complete Wild West. You get what you pay for. I would rather go to a spot where you pay $10 to have some more order and easier logistics. Especially because we're often dealing with kiddos who need to get out for lunch and naps. read more

We've been twice during COVID times. Planning to return again. My 18 month old loved "feeding" the chickens, loved running freely, loved running around the "corn maze" corner and screaming "boo!" We bought 1 humongous orange pumpkin, 2 miniature white and orange-striped pumpkins for a total of $15! I thought it was a pretty good deal. My granddaughter's pre-school has a yearly field-trip to Joan's...and it is a fun time!! It is not for folks who don't like a crowd on a week day...they cycle many classes through pretty efficiently. You take the big circle route to feed animals...mostly well fed goats, a story time, pick a pumpkin, our group has snack, and a bit of play. Fun experience with my boyfriend & kids I use to take care of! The drive was kind of far since we live in Newark but definitely worth it. Once you drive into the farm, you park in a dirt road. The kids and I grabbed a wagon and walked into the actual farm, there we were excited seeing the many pumpkins all over the ground. Sizes varied and I thought the prices were decent. The kids got 2 small pumpkins $5 each and my BF and I got a large pumpkin costing us $12. It was a fun experience and what made it better was all the activities that were surrounding the place: fort maze, corn maze, mini train, mini playground set, lots of picture spots, and animals that we can pet! I had high hopes for this place after seeing all the great reviews, and after having a great time at G&M Farms a couple of weeks prior to visiting here. However, as another reviewer said - "Eh...." Compared to G&M Farms, Joan's takes longer to get to since it's deep in Livermore. Activities are spread out so it takes a while to get a toddler to walk from one activity to another. The placement of pumpkins is also not as pretty or dramatic as at G&M. My son LOVED the giant pumpkin he was able to runic and out of and the play area - although I did not like that the play area was basically Little Tikes (or similar) equipment place onto of VERY dry and dusty dirt. I do like that you do not need to pay to get in, pumpkins are reasonably priced, and kids can feed the animals as long as parents remember to bring quarters for the food pellets. The absolute best part for my son was the endless line of wagons he got to pick from at the parking lot. When we left, I appreciated the pumpkin check-out area, where I made my two year old figure out what size pumpkin he had based on their size/cost system, and how much he had to pay them. Overall this farm is a bit too rustic for my tastes, and especially because it's much further away from me. I'll likely go to G&M instead. read more

Came here today, and our boys no longer want to go to any of the other pumpkin patches we've been to! We love it here. Hubby and I had lunch. Their nachos, chili dogs, and hot dogs were not only good, but fairly priced. The $20 unlimited rides/activities were worth it. The staffs are very friendly, the porterhouses are clean, lots of animals to pet, plenty of parking and picturesque background for everyone.
