I had such a great time here that I did paint one more thing when I came to pick up my first lot. Perfect place to come on your own or with a bunch of friends. To start, many of the brushes were worn out, damaged, or broken, which made painting more difficult than it should have been. I came with a friend, and during our visit two small letter pieces from her project went missing. When staff informed her there would be a charge, she immediately agreed to pay for them without any argument. We had spent over $300 that day and were simply trying to resolve the situation. I thought one of the missing letters might have accidentally been thrown away in a napkin, so I asked an employee if she had a glove that I could use to check the trash can myself. Before she could help, the owner's son interrupted, told her to stop helping me and go assist a birthday party. When I explained that I was only asking for a glove so I could look through the trash myself, he continued arguing with me instead of helping resolve the situation. I brought my concerns to the manager, but she told me there was nothing she could do because he was the owner's son. What upset me most was that she then called my friend a liar and accused her of trying to steal the missing letters, even though my friend had already agreed to pay for them. I found that accusation completely unfair and unprofessional. The conversation became heated, and I admit I became frustrated. However, I was shocked when we were told not to come back which is fine to me because I was not planning to ever come back to this place due the customer service. Being treated dismissively, having my friend accused of dishonesty, and being told never to return after spending hundreds of dollars left a very negative impression. I attended a kid's birthday party last Saturday. This studio is a lot smaller than their previous place on Main St. Staff were helpful and they had plenty of options of items to paint but it gets very crowded and there is no room for parents to wait. Parents of attendees opted to wait in their cars, as there were no seats and if someone was standing, it can be difficult for others to pass around them. Due to the lack of room, this is better for adults and small groups of 4-5. read more

We hosted a kid's birthday party at this location. I booked the party over the phone and I was told that each kid would be $25 for the cheapest piece of pottery, plus a $10 studio fee. That is all. Upon checkout, they added a 20% gratuity, which added $100 to the total! I'm happy to tip, but I don't like being told what I need to give, with no wiggle room. One of the party "hosts" was not very friendly either, yet she got a $50 tip for 1.5 hours (there were two total). They weren't even fully dedicated to our party, as they were helping other tables too. I also felt like everything was nickel and diming - two party guests were from out of town, so we asked if they could expedite the oven process. $5 more per piece to do that. Need a table for cake or food? $50 extra. Want to finish your piece on a weekend? Add another fee. The kids had fun, and the pottery was cute, but I left with a very sour taste in my mouth. Came here with my kids on a weekday (ages 2 and 4). It is nice they do not charge a 'studio' fee for those not painting on weekdays. On the weekends they do charge $10 for anyone who is in the facility whether they are painting or not. The woman was sort of helpful, but it really is a "figure it out on your own" type of deal. I think 25 bucks for the smallest items is a bit steep. I feel they should vary their pricing to match the people completing the item. I have learned that taking a 2 year old is probably not the best idea. My 4 year old enjoyed it but was over it quite quickly. I wish there was more information on how to use the paint and ensure everything on the item is covered. Of courseI now recognize that taking a 2 year old is not a good idea! You live and you learn! Overall, it was a cute idea, and a fun concept but the prices are steep and you pay a lot for very little assistance. read more

We came in person to paint and we put our names on the waitlist. After 40 minutes they called and said they could only hold a table for 15 minutes. We were a little late so they completely removed us from the list and we got put back on the bottom. Makes no sense at all, complete waste of time to even go. I'm writing this review from the point of view of our 8-year old daughter, not from that of parents who have had an event at this studio. Our daughter loves art projects - water colors, sketches, crafts, ceramics. She has been to Color Me Mine on at least four occasions in the last six months, but has only one ceramic figurine to show for it. A bright red Angry Bird Money Bank. Because none of the others came home. They either cracked in the studio or in the home of the party host. One such mishap can be chalked down to bad luck or negligence, but three? I doubt it. More likely it has something to do with the way they process the ceramic figurines after the kids paint them. Which is a shame, because the kids have fun and the events seem well organized. On the latest occasion a few weeks ago, our daughter painted a seahorse, and she was so excited to bring it home. I even made it a point to speak to the Color Me Mine staff and told them to please be careful with her figurine as she loved painting it but was concerned she'd never get it. They expressed surprise, promised to take care of her seahorse, and even "made a note." Alas - it cracked before she got it. To say she was disappointed is an understatement. It is not fun to tell your kid that their lovingly painted figurine "broke". And likely even less fun to tell this to their friends. Which is why we are not planning to host any events here. read more

Came here to make a gift with my child and husband. The girl who greeted us was super sweet and agreed to let us pay $5 to rush the order by two days. The store is really cute and inviting. We picked out the item to decorate but when my husband asked for full pricing from a different associate she said because it's a weekend we have to pay $10 per person even though the sign says "10 per painter". We had one person painting and they had four empty tables. I would understand if they were swamped or had a wait. Not interested in getting nickel and dimed to pay $65 for a mug. Went here for the first time a couple days ago and the store had such a nice,warm,cozy vibe when I walked in (it did help that it was raining hard and they had the heater on) The place was full of people and a little crowded but thankfully there was one table left for us. Even with all the commotion, the staff on shift greeted us instantly were extremely courteous. They ran us through all the steps and even gave us tips on how to push out a better product. The activity itself was really fun My problem comes in with the tipping.. If they're able to make 90 dollars off two people painting some pottery they got online for probably 1/4th of what they're charging us, why don't they pay their staff enough so that they don't have to rely on tips? We (the customer) have to pick our own table, physically pick out our pottery, go and grab our own brushes and paints, and have to stand up and walk to the supply station to refill the paints and grab more supplies. So if we're the ones doing all the service, why do we have to tip? It's like tipping at a self-serve froyo place. I've been meaning to write this review for ages. I came here in October 2020, so prime pandemic time. I had a cute idea for a project to do with my new baby. I used their website to select the pieces that I wanted and the paint colors I needed for pick up the next day. The lady who helped me was super nice. When I showed up, she showed me the pieces I had selected and I actually wanted to change one out for a different tray. That wasn't a problem at all. She also showed me all the paints to see if I wanted any other colors, then packed everything up safely in a bag for me and rang me up. I did my thing at home and brought my pieces back to be glazed and fired. That is all part of the cost of purchasing the item so it's not extra. It was only a couple days and they gave me a call to say my pieces were ready. Again the lady who helped me when I showed up was so nice and showed me everything came out great before wrapping them up. I would happily come here again for at home painting or to paint in the little studio as it's in beautiful downtown Pleasanton. read more

Came in today on a whim and was so glad I did! I found the studio to be clean and surprisingly peaceful with soothing music playing in the background. Additionally, the staff was helpful and welcoming to my child who was on the young side and had never painted here before. (As it turns out, I did not get the kind employee's name but my receipt stated 'cashier 819'). This studio has a great selection of ceramics to choose from at a reasonable price. My daughter was also happy with all the different choices of paint colors and brushes. However, the employee did disclose they were backed up at least 2 weeks due to the influx of Spring Break customers. In the end, my child chose to personalize a very cute cupcake piece and had a wonderful experience doing so. We can't wait to see the end results and hopefully revisit this location. read more

I came in one weekday afternoon for a team building activity. I've never been to a Color Me Mine before and had a really great experience. There's so many different figurines and items that you can choose from. There were certain things I wanted to paint, however I was concerned with the level of detail required on some items. We were situated with a color palette and endless colors to choose from. I picked an adorable honey pot that I was very happy in choosing from tons of options before me. The best advice I can give is layer your pots as much as you can! It's recommended to do at least 3 layers if you want the color to really show. I probably had layered mine with paint tons of times! Haha! Also, focus on the color on the tile samples rather than the color you see. It will look different once it's fired up and as the finished product. I had such a great time relaxing and all I had to worry about was what color I'd choose next. No worries if you make a mistake, there are handy sponges that you can wipe away any unwanted paint. You'll have to wait about a week to receive your item and they'll usually give you a call once it's ready. Overall, mine turned out wonderful and I'm so happy I'll be able to display it! read more

First time yelp reviewer; I brought my 3 kids here today for an after school surprise and was disappointed with the experience from start to finish. We've been here several times over the years and expected a good experience but this time was different. I called ahead of time to ask if I could make a reservation to which they replied no reservation was needed but they stop accepting painters at 4pm and stop painting at 4:30pm in anticipation of closing at 5pm. When we arrived we were forced to mask up and the 2 employees sat on their phones while we collected our supplies. Previously the employees offered us a run down of what to do and not to do and set us up with supplies. Promptly at 4pm they reminded me we had to stop painting in 30 min in anticipation of their 5pm closing time. The icing on the cake was at check out when I was charged for 4 painter fees, at $10 a pop, even though Only my 3 children painted. I was informed that the owner updated the policy recently and since I sat inside while my children painted there was a $10 charge for me. $150 later...my kids and I all felt unwelcome from the start, rushed, and nickel and dimed. read more

Came here on a Sunday and it was crazy. It looks like they had a birthday party and it was extremely loud and kids were running around wild. Not a good idea to have running around pottery.... They don't have a big selection of ceramics. All of their brushes were dirty and no one made an effort to wash any. The palette's were also dirty. Parking was a bit tough. We went our Daughter , Son in law and 2 grandkids aged 3 &5. They had just opened on a Sunday morning and there were 2 other people painting. For us to watch our grandkids paint it was going to cost $10 per person. It was also $10 per person for the parents of a 3 and 5 year old to watch them paint. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE AND THE MOST UNBELIEVABLE experience of my life. DO NOT GO HERE BECAUSE THESE GUYS IN PLEASANTON ARE NOTHING BUT CROOKS WHO DO BAD BUSINESS. I took my senior parents here for their 45th wedding anniversary. They are visiting from overseas and it was their first time doing this and me spending time with them after 17 years! Hence, this was very special for us. Upon my request, the manager graciously offered me a $35 coupon that I could use as a special for their anniversary. We spent about 4 hour's painting our little 'master piece' that we wanted to cherish as a beautiful memory. We used the coupon paid what they asked us to and left. A week later I called to check if my piece was ready to pick up. I'm then told that the coupon I used was not meant to be used on that day and was meant for a future purchase. I was forced to pay the extra money to be able to pick up my piece. I had to walk into the store and talk to them and they wouldn't budge. I asked why was I misinformed if the coupon couldn't be used and how did they let me use it in the first place and if they did why are they bringing this up now. I even added that this was ruining my entire experience of why I even did this. When I demanded to speak with the manager the girl at the front helping wouldn't let me and instead went behind the office to go speak to him. She then returned slammed our painted piece in a bag threw in the other stuff and rudely handed the bag saying the owner doesn't want us coming back again. You gotta be kidding me, you first give us false information, you let us use a coupon, then you do not honor it (which was your fault), then you behave in the most obnoxious way mis-handing my item to me(something that I already paid for!) and behave in the most rude and discriminative way?!!! And, Instead of being apologetic for a mistake YOU made, you do this!? LOL! Like seriously? And, You think I will ever return to such a terrible place ever again? Or even refer other friends family??!! You are a joke! You not only ruined our experience and the sentiment that went into paying for this experience, you also lost a customer and you will lose many other customers if you continue to operate your business so terrible and unethically! Get some sense you guys, we live in a customer centric world and a diverse world! People come and give you business to create a memory. your in the business of creating memories and experiences but instead the experience we got was like your in the business of trying to make extra money from people! Came on a Fri evening with my daughter. She's a very mature 10 year old and she spent 6.5 hours painting her little box and making it perfect. The staff made no comments or signs that they thought we were there too long. The 6.5 hours was split into 2 days. It was really fun just picking out the pottery with my daughter and her planning out how she was going to decorate it, then for her to think of her future pottery projects. Took two of my nieces here and we had a good experience. It was a weekday so there were many tables open. We were seated right away and got straight to work choosing the ceramic pieces and paint colors. We spent two hours here and it was a fun activity for the girls. Aprons are provided to keep your clothes clean. There are plenty of paint brushes, not in the best condition but will do. Staff was friendly and helpful if you need something. They overall leave you alone to paint as everything is self explanatory and pretty self service, but certainly attentive if you need something. The turnaround time to get the ceramic items back was faster than they quoted, they were ready in just a few days after we painted the items and we got a call to come pick them up. I would prefer more paint colors and ceramic choices, the wall is full but many of the items are repeated many times so the overall selection is not as wide as you would think. read more

Fun fact: I have been to multiple locations in this chain. The service is always nice which is a real plus when you only come here to get a mug with an infant's footprint. And of course, having an infant along means you're basically working with a strict time limit. I always end up asking for their help because I'm so terrified on getting the footprint wrong. They have also given me pointers on color coordination/pairing because art isn't my forte. Although I admire their themes seasonal offerings I do sometimes wish there was more that is plainer. Not sure if that sounds weird to say, maybe it's just a personal preference, but for me if I'm going to be shelling out money for something I want it to last and be able to be used or displayed year-round. Finally, cost isn't great, but I am in favor of the staff being paid livable wages and also this place staying in business. ( This isn't a place where people can frequent all the time - more for special occasion stuff). So I don't want to complain about the prices either. read more

Took both my girls here who are 7 & 2 and it was our first time. My oldest is a pretty creative artist who loves drawing, painting & DIY projects, so this was up her alley. When we walked in, we were welcomed by the store manager (I believe) & an employee in training. He gave me the run down on how it works & the pricing. Step 1: Pick a piece to paint. They had a good selection of ceramic pieces to choose from & had pricing on the bottom of each one. Step 2: Paint your piece. Kid painters are $6 & $10 for adults. Step 3: Check out your pieces when done painting. They have you fill out a small form for some info. like name & number to call you when your pieces are ready. They say usually a week when your piece is ready for pick up. Overall, the place was a spacious & clean place & was well lit. My girls loved it. Everything was easy to access with everything in its place. I gave this place 4 stars because I wished the staff was a little more helpful with things. Short Story: A good place to go paint pottery! Long Story: This is a great place to have some fun to paint pottery. Step 1: pick your piece of pottery, Step 2: paint it, Step 3: come back a week later to see your masterpiece! That's about it folks! You will probably spend about 2 hours total painting your piece. The employees are pretty knowledgeable about what tools and paints to use. in addition, there are sample pieces for you to look at. Be sure to listen to the instructions carefully as they can make or break your creation. For example, you should paint your piece at least 3 times in order for the color to be deep enough. Also, use a small paint brush in order to better control the amount of paint you put on. The prices are okay. I believe the one in Fremont or San Jose are slightly cheaper but only by about $7 per person. read more

We tried going to the play area in the mall but it was dirty and lots of kids without supervision were pushing and shoving my three-year-old. I decided to take her to Color me Mine and do a quiet activity. She chose the Nemo penny bank. It wasn't busy at all. The staff were very helpful and left us to our own devices after providing explanations of how to do the painting. My three-year-old had a great time. When I called to get the bank they made sure it was available for pick up. I did have to get another stopper before I left because it didn't fit and it had writing on it, but that wasn't a big deal. They should've checked that before giving me the item but luckily I checked it before leaving. It's a little pricey but I would certainly go again on a rainy day. read more

One word: nightmare (if you don't have kids and just wanna get your adult creative art on). They do have a decent selection of ceramics and paints. However, where they could improve is their palettes, brushes, offer aprons, and have an adult only night. The brushes are all so worn and used, it made even just simple base coating turn into an act of patience (never mind the screaming kids and scooters blocking the walk way), and detail work is impossible. Bring your own supplies! The teeny tiny holes for the color palette made my hair stand on end as I was trying to cover an enormous piece that required me to fill up 2 palettes with all one color and brave the child maze to the back to refill both of them 6 times. Whatever happened to providing good ole paper plates to pour a pool of the color you need? All in all, not for adults. I'd rather save myself $90 and the desire for a stiff drink and paint at home with a glass of wine. read more

When having daddy daughter night I will often get a request to finish our time out here painting something. The store has been cut down in size to about half of what it used to be. I've also been here for a few parties and think it would be very difficult now to have a party here, and if you do, there would be no room for any non party attendees to come in and paint. At any rate, we always have a good one here, something new or seasonal to paint is usually picked and the supplies are always well kept, clean and organized. The girls working here are always very nice and attentive and helpful. After painting (make sure you do at least two coats of paint), you have to wait about 7 days for the piece to be fired in the oven so that you can pick it up. They always take my phone number to call me when it's ready but I don't think I've had a call yet. I usually come in 7 days later and it is done. I enjoy the area, we usually walk around and find a place to eat first, parking isn't too difficult and we usually find something very close. We will most definitely come back. read more
