This is a fantastic little market to visit. The staff are extremely friendly, the produce is fresh and well stocked, and the prices are reasonable too. It's better to go here than Safeway or lucky for produce and few other items. Also they got good deals too on some of their items such as the lemonade having a buy 2 for 5 or whatever the price is deal. Can't beat that for good lemonade as well as good produce. read more

I LOVE Windmill Farms. We drive to WF from Orinda because we like it so much. There are always several fruits or vegetables on special. Right now it is naval oranges and they are SO good! Really fresh, super sweet and way cheaper than the farmers market (but still locally sourced and fresh). Those are .57 cents a pound. And the golden nugget peelable oranges are 1.47 a pound. At the farmers market the exact same orange, which is currently in season, is 4 dollars a pound. I always buy the stuff on sale (this time it was organic celery - 1.47 each buy one get one free) When you are flexible on what to cook, if you buy what's on sale and what is in season you will eat so well for so cheap. This is how you stay healthy. I wish every city had a market as well-run as this one. My only regret is I didn't read the reviews before I started going several years ago because I finally did read them and found a few products I will have to try next time! Portuguese sweet bread? I went here for the first time to buy lots of strawberries for my upcoming party so I spent quite some time digging through it to see which ones I wanted because some of the strawberries weren't great looking. When I went to pay, the guy accused me of stealing other strawberries to put in my box which had me so shocked and hurt because I didn't, so I told him I swear I didn't and to check his cameras if he doesn't believe me. Does he accuse everyone who buys these strawberries boxes of stealing more? I'm always happy to support a family business but not after they were rude to accused me of something I didn't do. read more

I shop regularly for my produce at Windmill Farms - they have a great selection of staple veggies and fruit with excellent prices and friendly service. Today during my shopping I had an issue with my vehicle and the operations manager, Joe, stepped in to help...he jumped to the rescue with a smile & helpful hand - very grateful!! In autumn, I love this market even more than at any other time of year. The best pumpkin patch in the area, with adorable animals in the petting zoo, including a very curious black sheep. Everything else is as nice as always. I'm also glad to note that in recent months, vegetable prices here haven't been rising as sharply or as quickly as in other places. I popped in for the first time this past weekend and I had no idea this hidden gem was here! They had super good deals on produce - 10 mini avocados for $1 A freezer full of pies, ice cream, and a back cooler section with lots of fun local cheese. They also had a whole wall of dried fruits, nuts, and I recommend trying the garlic chips if you haven't yet! It was a little busy but that would be expected on the weekend. While I posted a glowing review of Windmill Farms in San Ramon in 2023, it was based on my experience with Windmill Farms many years prior, when they still regularly carried wide varieties of pluots. Now, they hardly ever have any pluots anymore. Worse, their peaches and nectarines don't ripen properly when I take them home. Instead of ripening and turning soft, sweet, and juicy, the flesh of the peaches and nectarines they now sell often fails to ripen at room temperature, turns dark brown/black inside, becomes mealy and bland, and is not sweet or juicy. I looked up information online and found that peaches and nectarines fail to ripen and that their flesh turns dark if the fruits were stored at too low a temperature during shipment or in the merchant's refrigerator. I stopped shopping at Windmill Farms in the summer of 2025, after almost 20 years as a loyal customer, because they no longer offer anything I can't get close by, and the repeated disappointment of costly peaches and nectarines failing to ripen and turning dark inside was just intolerable. I could buy similar or better-quality fruits at Costco or at my local grocery store. read more

Friendly easy shopping experience. They often have easter egg deals like 10 lemons for $1, pineapple for $1, romaine for $1, etc (depending on season). Another October... another pilgrimage to Windmill Farms for a pumpkin haul! While the idea of strolling a pumpkin patch in 96°F temps was not putting me in the Halloween spirit, I fortunately discovered that the hot weather had seemingly scared away other shoppers, so I practically had the entire parking lot and pumpkin patch to myself. Windmill Farms once again had the best variety and quality I've seen in the East Bay, so while I initially came for ONE pumpkin, I could not resist filling my shopping cart. Of course I found another beautiful Pink Porcelain pumpkin, but I couldn't resist also stocking up on pumpkins that will be good eating into the new year: kabocha, sugar pumpkins, Japanese Black Futsu, and delicata squash. And because Windmill is also one of the best farm stands around, I grabbed all my fave root veggies, including the hard to find Japanese yams. Quite the haul, yet still didn't break the bank! Ok, 5 may be a stretch ;^) BUT... this place is a gem, an institution, that continues to give the finger to big retail and the City. I've shopped here since the 70s, long before we lived in the area. We used to stop on our way through the area, especially during summer, when they always had the best stone fruit and melons. These guys were a Farmer's Market, before there were Farmers Markets!! And their ability to remain in operation through tough times for all these years is a tribute to dedication to doing a good job, providing good products, and keeping prices where people can afford them. If you haven't been to Windmill Farms you are missing out. Right on the main Blvd in San Ramon. They've been there since we moved to Alamo in 1979. Haven't changed. Great deals on mostly locally farmed produce. I love the refrigerated section and always get the best Mediterranean add ons. Try the premium dates... omgosh.... Small place, but great selection of pumpkins at reasonable prices. Only one or two other small families there on a weekday morning. Easy parking and good signage promoting mask wearing. Hand wash station and a huge bottle of hand sanitizer was available. They have a few small animals like a goat, duck, and chickens. You can buy a small bag of feed at the register for $1. They had a mini maze, but we didn't check it out. This is the perfect size place for a young toddler! There is no admission fee, no long walk to the car. Perfect for a quick visit just to grab some pumpkins and take a few pictures. We bought a small striped pumpkin for $1.50 and a larger pumpkin for carving for $7. The produce selection was a lot larger than expected. Most of it was reasonably priced and looked good. They didn't have much organic produce. It has what I need, plus the prices are great that I usually pay cash. Compared to going down the street to Safeway or the Farmers Market, your bank account will thank you. I also like to go here to purchase local honey - it helps for my allergies. There are also other packaged food items and limited speciality items. There is also a dairy section to purchase milk, eggs or cheese. During the holidays, you can purchase pumpkins or Christmas trees. I love this farmers market. It's super close to my home so I walk here every so often. If it's not a walkable distance from you, take a drive here. Parking is ample whether it's street parking or inside their parking lot. They are located right across the street from in n out. This farmers market is an open space with a refrigerated area for certain herbs and produce. Every day is truly a different day when it comes to deals. You can find the best deals here. I've gotten things from 10 avocados for $3 or BOGO on many items available. I love getting seasonal fruits here. The workers are all so nice and helpful. They have everything you think a farmers market would have with the addition to pastries from Silva Bakery in Hayward, bake your own pies (with SO many flavor options), Golnazar Gourmet Ice Cream, pasta sauces, pita, and many more. So many items, you just have to see it yourself. Not to mention, outside of the sales, it's generally a great deal. You could come every day and a new deal awaits! The staff here are very friendly and nice. Don't be afraid to ask for help or even ask if certain fruits are sweet. They are open everyday from 9am - 7pm. I've been here on various times and dates and it's generally never too busy where I'm bumping shoulders with people. You can get in and out decently quickly. "Crazy set up, Lots of Local produce" This business is located right next to the old Casino, which is now torn down. It's a very rustic set up. The day that I was there, they were also selling Christmas trees. I had to watch my footing to make sure I didn't stumble on something. I did not mind at all the rustic nature of the market. It was actually a lot of fun just walking around and checking things out. Quite a different atmosphere than the usual supermarket. So you get the idea--this is not like a supermarket set up. It's much more like a fruit stand, or a farmers market. They emphasize that they source their produce locally. The only difference is, you don't have to drive out in the middle of nowhere to find it. It's a fruit stand right next to downtown San Ramon. On the day I visited, they had quite a few different fruit varieties that I don't usually see at supermarkets. For example, they had a huge selection of plums; they were all $1.99 a pound. I got three different varieties, and I was pleased with my selection. They also have a good size organic section inside a special cool room. The cashier was super friendly. I asked her about pluots, and she gave me a suggestion of when they would become available. So if you're open to an environment like a fruit stand, and don't mind walking through some saw dust think you will like this business. Be sure to tell me if you see any pluots! read more

I started shopping here more and here during the pandemic. Mainly because I didn't want to drive to Dublin for 99 Ranch and figure I can get some good produce here. I have grown to really LOVE Windmill Farms. The prices and produce can be variable but they are ALWAYS great finds and deals. It looks like a lot of the produce are locally source so you can definitely find good deals for items in season. I love the oranges when they are 37 cents a lb, you CANNOT beat that price and they're so good! Sometimes, they're not always able to get more exotic fruits like shishito peppers or dragonfruit but overall, I really love the produce! The staff is very friendly and nice too! One downside is that anything under $10 is preferably cash unless you want to pay a fee for using credit/debit so I end up using lots of cash here. I buy a lot but I don't typically go over $10. The parking lot is small but typically, parking isn't an issue. Another downside for me is the hours, it's sometime challenging getting there "after" work since I can work late in the evening coming home after 8-9pm, so I have to plan accordingly to come here since their hours isn't as long compared to the big grocery chains. Overall, I love this place and recommend people to check it out for your local produce!! read more

So I have lived in San Ramon for three years and I am not sure why it has taken me so long to stop by here. I eat vegetarian and let me just say, WOW I have never been able to purchase my fruits and veggies at such incredible prices, especially organic. The produce is from CA farms except items like bananas that are not grown in CA. The staff are friendly and there is a huge selection of produce. I got items such as organic kale 2 bunches for a $1, organic spinach 1 bunch for $.99, and organic carrots $.99 a pound. I was in a little produce heaven. I ended spending just $35 and restocking my fridge with all the fruits and veggies I needed for my family of 4 for the entire week. I will definitely be heading back again. Head over early though as it does get busy the later you go. I went over at opening and by 10am it started to get busy. read more

Little kids under 3 will enjoy this and it's perfect for the pandemic to avoid crowded pumpkin patches especially when our kids won't wear a mask unlike big kids . Been coming here off and on for years..I love trying to support our local businesses and farmers. Since this place is overall an open air market, they do have a refrigeration area inside (walk-in cooler) some of their produce isn't fresh meaning it breaks down alittle faster or is bruised here and there so you sometime have to pay just alittle more attention to what you are picking to get your moneys worth. Beyond that overall, they have some extremely cheap prices in terms of produce and the overall variety isn't too bad and carry some Asian produce along with honeys for example. While I never been here when it's busy, I imagine their packing lot can be alittle cramp and hectic when the market is full and it's enclosed so there's only 1 entrance/exit beyond parking on the street. The cashiers and stockers are all friendly and I've never had any problems with them so far. read more

Windmill Farms is a small, open-air market along SRVB that sells local fruits and veggies, along with jams, frozen pies, dry pasta, and pastries. Depending on the season, it also doubles as a pumpkin patch, mini petting zoo, and Xmas tree farm. I come here occasionally to pick up missing ingredients that I've forgotten from my usual Costco or 99 Ranch runs. Although I usually rely on Costco for fruit and 99 Ranch for veggies, having Windmill so close to home makes it real convenient! Parking and check-out lines are much faster here at Windmill, and you get the added benefit of supporting the local farms. If you want to get the fresh produce; come by at Windmill farms. The place is clean and always has different and exotic fruits and vegetables to find. They carry items such as local produce, fruits, vegetables, local honey (great for reducing allergy) local organic pies, local teas and I can go on and on. Lol :-D I like to spend my money at this store to support my local community so they'll remain open and they don't have to forcibly increase their prices. The people here are helpful and reassure you to select a better item. They take pride in their products, supports local farmers, and most of all it's affordable. It's definitely a great way to shop and a great way to save money. In addition, It's encouraging to shop healthy goods much more than going to the grocery stores. I feel good shopping here, I feel that I can accomplish buying what I need instead of getting distracted by other unnecessary foods that I see and like to avoid passing at every aisle at the grocery stores. We've been coming here on a weekly basis because the staff is very friendly- always willing to let us know the specials. We had a pineapple in our cart and they let us know it was bogo! The fruit is much sweeter because it's locally sourced. We've been introduced to campo mangoes and crown pears (type of asian pear) at such a good value. I also get fresh tortillas every so often here. We each have our favorites and the variety changes based on what's in season. There's something for everyone in our family.
