I live just a few blocks from this place. We were in the process of moving, so I called to order some sandwiches. Right away I had language barrier issues. I could NOT make the young lady to whom I spoke understand the word 'pickle'. She said that she did not know that word. Fair enough, but no body else who worked there knew the word either. Forget it, I'll run by the store and get my own. OK. When I picked up the sandwiches, I mentioned that I was planning to buy about 10 sandwiches the next day (Saturday), for my movers and helpers. They suggested that I call in about 9 am to give them time to make them. Nobody picked up at 9, and when we went there at 11:30 a sign on the door said that they open at noon. They close at 3. Sign says closed....will be back at 12:45 pm. Why would your deli be closed until AFTER lunch? Not only will you not see me at 12:45 but you won't be seeing me again. I came here a couple times several years ago when it was under the original ownership--it was fantastic, very much like what you might find in a european village. Lot's of homemade fare, and a gazillion items to capture your fancy Unfortunately, now it is distilled down to a pretty standard, albeit, quality deli featuring brands that are found in many places. We needed 50 sandwiches on very short notice and we needed them delivered. Met with Travis at 2:15 on a Wednesday afternoon and all 50 sandwiches were delivered right on time, 6:00 pm Friday night. The occasion was somber, a memorial service, and the sandwiches were delivered to the back room while the service was in progress - we did not hear the delivery at all, they came in and set up quietly and left - very, very respectful. And again, while it was a somber occasion, people were hungry and we got all kinds of compliments on the sandwiches and people were asking "Now where is this deli, exactly?" Travis was great to work with, wanting to make sure we got what we needed and actually offered to do more than we expected. I stopped in today to get a sandwich for lunch (less than $8.00 for a great sandwich, choice of side and because I paid cash, a soda!) and got that same great service. A hidden gem off of E.14th on a residential street. (it's a house converted into a deli cafe) Parking is free and pretty painless. Their sandwiches and salads all use the freshest ingredients. I really enjoy their warm sandwiches especially the grilled chicken with asparagus. I've also had quite a few of their cold sandwiches and particularly like the Peppered Turkey and Garden Fresh Veggie. They only have a few salad options - I really enjoy the Chicken Caesar Salad - the chicken is smokey in flavor and their croutons are homemade. Their potato salad is soooo yummy - sometimes I just want to order a bowl of it and nothing else! Daily soup specials available - great for cold days or feeling a bit under the weather. They've been featured on EYE ON THE BAY which is pretty cool :D Travis is the owner and has always been so accommodating to our large and often LAST MIN catering orders. Amazing customer service! I checked this place out because its very close and because of my fellow yelpers :) I had the lunch box special including the pulled pork, potato salad and a brownie. I also added a small soup of the day which was the Italian wedding soup. My sandwich was great! Needed a weee bit more sauce for the bread but still something I would want again. The potato salad was good, nice change to see homemade. The soup was really good, but a little to hot to begin with. I had to wait 10 minutes before I could even attempt to try it. It is truly a hidden gem of San Leandro. I called ahead to avoid any kind of lunch time rush and while I had to wait a minute or two, my sandwich accompanied with their potato salad was perfect! After that first visit, I knew it was fate and it's so sad I no longer work near the area to enjoy it on the weekly basis. But when you get a chance, stop by! The food and employees are top notch. WOWZERS!!!!!!! This is one of the better deli's i have ever been to. Being catholic i wasn't able to eat meat today because of lent, so i wasn't able to try out their pork shoulder sandwich, which is the best sandwich from here I'm told. But it was fine because i had the spicy tuna sandwich which was very tasty. I don't think i have ever had a tuna sandwich as good as here. As for the service, top notch. The lady was very nice. I feel that I have never had a truly good sandwich until I had a sandwich from Joaquin Deli. I have to say, I have developed an addiction to the "Other Club". I have one almost every Saturday. I look forward to my walk over to the Deli to savor every bite. The sauce they use and the combination of fresh ingredients are an absolute explosion of flavors in my mouth. I am sooo glad that I stumbled across Joaquin Deli because I love trying new sandwich places! As soon as we entered, we were greeted and offered a menu. Deciding on what sandwich to get is always very difficult for me, especially when there are multiple sandwiches that I would like to try. Eventually, we decided to get the pork shoulder sandwich, which comes on ciabatta bread with their house made aioli, blue cheese, spinach, tomato slices, and caramelized onions. This sandwich was tasty! To me, the combination of the aioli and blue cheese was wonderful. And all of the produce worked well with the other components of the sandwich. Next time I go back I'm looking at getting their pulled pork sandwich, BLT magic, or the cheese trio with black forest ham... At least I've already narrowed it down to 3 options. :) If in the area I recommend stopping by and giving Joaquin Deli a try. They have some pretty creative and specialized sandwiches, which are around $7 each. Besides sandwiches, they also have soups, salads, and baked goods. read more

This place wasn't to bad at all. Very interesting and unique interior designing, very european. i went into this store CRAViNG for chicken salad sandwich. I actually found the shop on yelp haha. Anywho.. the sandwich wasnt to bad at all, except for the sprouts which probably would have been way better without it. The sandwich was pricier than most sandwiches, but it was actually pretty big and had A LOT of meat. its really bang for the buck. The day i went, i guess i was lucky and got a free drink with the sandwich and free chip deal. The shop also offers a deal thing where you buy 10 sandwiches and you get one for free. This shop is located into a really odd location, its located far away from the "downtown area" i would prob. go back again, maybe to try something else, but it did not satisfy my chicken salad sandwich craving. I've never actually been to the deli, but have eaten the food through an event they catered. Each box came with a sandwich, chip/potato salad or coleslaw, and a cookie or brownie. I ate the Rueben and it's YUMMY! The meat was tasty and tender. The sauerkraut was refreshing. The rye bread was a little rough, though. The sandwich was satisfying (I was good with just HALF the sandwich) but not too HUGE the way they make sandwiches at other places. I wasn't too much a fan of their potato salad--too mustardy for my taste. I'd like to go visit sometime and try out other things on their menu. read more

Joaquin Deli. If you were on Joaquin and just driving by, you would assume this is just another average house on your way to downtown SL or to the 580. The staff here is very friendly and they accommodate your weird request (like mine). I usually get my lunch box special here where they hook you up with a sandwich, brownie or cookie, drink and side for 10 dollars. I usually get my roast pork with their aioli (garlic mayo... mmmmm), lettuce, tomato, bbq sauce, cheese. I have a weak spot for aioli in my sandwiches. Their club and tri tip also have honorable mention. I have made it a goal to try almost every sandwich on their menu. I'll definitely give this place a "good" rating. When I hear "deli" I think hot coppa sandwich. Or some other kind of fabulous cured meat. They don't have coppa or salame. I ordered lunch at this place today. 1st of all, the sanwiches are pretty pricey. Expect to pay about $6.50 to $7.00 for a sandwich that that's the size of a bagel. The pulled pork sandwich I ordered was just alright. The menu on their website clearly needs to be updated. Their sandwiches went up 20 cents. Granted it comes with potatoe salad, coleslaw, or chips...but for the price you pay, the potatoe salad (my choice) came in a teeny tiny container that you put salsa in at the Los Periquos down the street. I think the sandwiches should be cheaper considering they do run out of a house and compete with others in the area. Gave one stars because it was easy to find and there was parking. read more

The other club is finger licking good! I love cranberry and turkey sandwiches and with a little bit of horseradish? Yum! When I'm at work I have to hold the aioli sauce because it makes my breath unappealing to patient's. You can choose a side - potato salad, coleslaw, or a bag of chips. Extra money for the fancy chips though. The other ones I've tried are the Grilled Chicken with Basil Pesto and the Reuban Style Pastrami which both are also very good. I'd prefer to eat here over Subway or Togo's for sure. The only down side is it is kind of expensive. But I guess you pay more for quality right? Whenever I go in the people are always friendly. This is my favorite Deli in San Leandro. It's a hidden gem! The sandwiches are so good and creative and the owners are super friendly.
