Came through with my wife and kids, we all kept it simple and got the same thing. ham + salami on a sweet roll with everything. First bite told me everything I needed to know. bread was soft, meat fresh, nothing overdone just straight up good. Place runs smooth too. You walk in, grab a number, and they call you up. Sign tells you exactly where to go so you're not standing there confused like some spots. Staff were cool and quick. They got a solid setup with drinks, chips, even frozen stuff to take home. I'm a huge fan of Little Lucca in South San Francisco, but I wanted to find something in the East Bay to scratch the itch. I wasn't really impressed, unfortunately. I felt like getting a sandwich and decided to check out Luccas. I ordered the smoked pepper turkey sandwich on Dutch Crunch with jalapeños and pepper-Jack. My buddy picked the turkey on sourdough. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was lunch time and a little busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] One thing to know is there is two places to get your food. If you phoned in your order right after you walk in the front turn right and pick up at the right end of the counter. Now if you didn't go towards the middle and make sure to grab a number from the counter. I joined the line and was about to be and then realized they were calling numbers. Once they call your number you order and wait around and pay when you pick up your food. They have a couple refrigerators for cold beverages and a freezer which holds ready to meals such as chicken parm, spaghetti and meatballs etc. Once you grab your order there are some tables on the left of the entrance so you can sit. My sandwich was good and the Dutch Crunch was fresh. Not too much mayonnaise and the meat ratio was good. One last thing they serve the sandwich on a little plastic tray. When you go to clear up your table they have recycling and compost cans for disposal but the trays go in a little box on the far right of the counter. Overall a good meal and experience and if I am in Castro Valley looking for a sandwich I would definitely go again. read more

One of my favorite sandwich spots is Little Lucca in Burlingame and South San Francisco, but Lucca's isn't related to them. Parking was a bit tough to find during lunchtime. When you walk in, you grab a ticket number like you're at the DMV. When they call your number, you go up to the counter and place your order. I got a peppered turkey sandwich with all the fixings and extra mayo on a sweet Italian roll. This has to be one of the better sandwiches I've had in a while. Boy does Luccas Deli get busy. The ordering system is simple, grab a ticket from the front, wait for your number to be called. I came in on a Sunday afternoon and waited close to an hour before my number was called while there were approximately 15-20 numbers ahead of me. No music, just a patience game for a good ol' sandwich. There are a ton of snacks, drinks, goodies to look at while waiting. Although that may not keep you busy for an hour, seats are often available. My go to is the Lucca's combo with provolone cheese, all condiments plus pepperoncini peppers on either sourdough or dutch crunch roll. While I must say, they don't pack a whole lot of condiments in it, it still definitely adds up to a pretty decently sized sandwich. Don't forget to grab yourself some kettle chips.. aka the only right way to enjoy a deli sandwich. $12.25 for the sandwich I chose, pretty reasonable. They accept pretty much all payment options, including Apple Pay which I appreciate because it is the most convenient in my opinion. There isn't a parking lot and is surrounded by other businesses so you may or may not score parking right away but it usually isn't too difficult and time consuming. read more

Always heard of Luccas having moved to SL within the last year so finally made it out to try it for lunch as I was craving a sandwich, but not Subway, Ike's or Togos. Well, jokes on me because I usually look at the upload date for menu items to make sure it's recent. For some reason, I didn't and thought $6.25 was the current pricing, showed up all gung ho and it's almost double! That's on me though, but had I known it was $11-13 for a sammy, I may have explored elsewhere with a coupon code for lunch. Just sayin, ballin on a budget. Nevertheless, I do love supporting small biz, and this one has been on my list. I usually order the same thing at any deli sandwich shop that's new to me to level set their quality: a chicken breast sammy, which is a good barometer of how good the place is. Hard to screw up, but also hard to stand out. Well, the good news is this place delivers on all fronts except one, which might be a huge flaw: the bread! I got a wheat roll (they have lots of other choices) and it was pretty dry! Like it needed either to be toasted (they told the person in front of me that they only toast sliced bread, not rolls....hmm lame?) but I don't go to deli shops and get sliced bread that I can get at home, so I stuck with my preferred wheat roll and sad to say it was dry. I had asked for extra mustard and regular mayo, and after my first bite, everything was great but the dry bread made me wish I had asked for extra extra mayo! Everything else was pretty on point so maybe the bread was dry that day, maybe the wheat roll is this dry usually, or maybe it was just an off day. At any rate, I will be back to try other Sammy's but I was a little disappointed on my first visit. The service was great, if not slightly long of a wait, but I did appreciate the ticket number system to make sure it was fair, going in order. There were plenty of employees helping, and good service can take time, so although it's not fast fast, and I was there for 10-15 min, the employees put love into the orders. Overall, it's a small biz I want to support, and if the next time I go the bread isn't as dry, I'll give them a full 5 stars. But for now, as is, I'd rate them solid 4, with one star removed due to the dry bread. read more

Got my usual Genoa salami on sliced white because the bread slices are big. There was a big bucket of sweet bread n butter sliced pickles where the deli meat is kept, so I tried those on my sandwich instead of regular and they made the sandwich taste even better. I love that they sell pasta, sauces, and already made frozen meals. She was great, she took my order, made my sandwich quickly, rang me up, and I was on my way. Her service was the highlight of my visit. I'm not sure if the other person was the owner, but a simple greeting would have made a big difference in the experience. I'd rather give my business to a small business that feels welcoming. The turkey sandwich itself was good, simple and fresh. I just wish they had banana peppers. Overall, it was something I could easily get at the deli at work or elsewhere.
