It is in the Queens Quay Terminal mall attached to Farm Boy. The prices are reasonable and portion size generous. I had the Joe bowl with hand pulled chicken, rice, beans, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese - one of the "healthier" options on the menu (well, not deep fried at least!). My DC had the special which was a chicken parmigiana that comes with a side Caesar salad. I imagine this place is packed in the summer, but on a winter weekday lunch, it was not busy at all so service was fast and efficient. They have happy hour drink specials. Pretty descent spot on the waterfront. Seeing as to how most places in the area are tourist traps, many restaurants don't focus on quality. I came here with a party of 6 and we waited to be seated on the patio on a weekday evening. The line was relatively short and we had a great spot. I had the fried chicken bao with the spiced fries as my side. I was impressed that they had so many side options. I like the chicken baos but they could have used some more sauce. We were wandering around the Queens Quay area on a recent weeknight and decided to grab a bite at one of the few restaurants. We eventually settled on Joe Bird and joined the short line. That short line moved impossibly slowly because, I guess, the place was completely understaffed. (Likewise, the service we eventually received was unreasonably slow. Maybe if you're that understaffed, let people know? I think we might've chosen to eat elsewhere had we been aware of this issue.) After an inordinately long time with the menu, I was able to place my order and I wound up going with the Diablo Sandwich ("Fried Chicken Thigh: Diablo chili oil, pickled pineapple, garlic mayo and arugula"), and I got that with the Patatas Bravas ("With garlic aioli & bravas sauce") on the side. The food arrived a while later and it was unsurprisingly far from hot. And while I enjoyed the first couple of bites, that fried chicken sure possessed a nice crunch around the edges, the middle part of the sandwich didn't fare too well. The copious amount of that garlic mayo rendered much of the concoction a soggy mess, while the pickled pineapple gave the whole thing a fairly unpleasant tartness. The Patatas Bravas were fine, although they became less appealing once they moved into room-temperature territory. Really, the best part of our meal was the view of the water. I saw a huge line before a Jay's game for the pub next door but you can grab a drink and a great bite to eat here. I'd highly recommend their Bird Sandwich. The smoked mustard aioli on this made the sandwich! I'm not sure if it infused itself with the provolone somehow but it was almost ballpark nacho cheesy. This on the crispy, juicy, chicken filet was worthy of a chef's kiss. You have a choice of side and can upgrade to a poutine or cornbread. This was a harder choice that you'd think! If you're a cornbread fan, it's an easy choice - not a lot of non-BBQ places have this side and it was a good one. The cornbread was served topped with a sauce. Joe Bird was probably the busiest establishment at Queen's Quay. It has great ambiance, with a tiered terrace facing Lake Ontario, and a DJ providing some lively music. Chicken is the name of the game here, whether you want it fried, grilled, with a hoisin tamarind glaze, or just wings. We decided on the fried and grilled, four pieces of each. At $18.00 per order, it's not cheap but probably on par with other places in the area. That works out to $4.50 per piece (a drumstick, thigh, or 1/2 a breast counts as one piece). It does come with a choice of sides. The fried chicken was very crispy/crunchy but didn't have a lot of flavour or anything unique about it. It was just okay. The grilled chicken had a bit of a smoky flavour but the thighs were a little overcooked for my liking. They were on the verge of falling apart. The breast meat, on the other hand, completely lacked any colour but it was moist. If I had to guess, I would say ther were cooked sous-vide and then finished on the grill, even though there was barely a grill mark on it. I may be completely wrong but it had a texture I'm familiar with from cooking sous-vide. The Patatas Bravas, one of our sides, was also overcooked and a bit mushy for roasted potatoes. The garlic aioli and bravas sauces were understated for my liking. The Brusssels Sprouts were okay. Overall, I enjoyed the ambiance more than the food. I've definitely had better (for less money). Gord and I had lunch today at Joe Bird. It was such a nice day and Gord and I sat on the patio. We split an order of corn bread and it was good. The jalapeño butter had a bit of a snap to it which was fun. We both ordered Joe's Fried Bird. I got mine with patatas bravas and Gord got his with fries. We went to Joe Bird for our office team lunch; we were greeted by friendly hostess upon entering the restaurant. We were seated at the patio facing the harbourfront as per our request. The menu is simple - fried/grilled/smoked chicken, fried chicken with waffle or sandwich. Salad and vegetarian options, sides, bread. Sauce is their specialty, so you can order extra sauce or Sauce flight to try all flavours My group have ordered different styles - fried, grilled, smoked and chicken waffle. Food arrived quickly and the portion is decent. I ordered fried Chicken with Waffles ($10). The fried chicken was juicy and the skin was crispy although the skin fell apart easily. I especially enjoyed the maple coffee sauce with the waffle. Overall, my lunch companions were happy with their food except the one who had BBQ chicken found the bird was not marinated enough. We also ordered the Fix Ice Cream as dessert. The desserts are definitely photogenic; they taste pretty good too. First review in Toronto. Yay! I love reviewing places like Joe Bird because there's just so much to talk about! It's not awful enough that I'm just over it, and don't want to even think about it, but not good enough that I'm left near speechless, with repetitive and impressed accolades. Let's dive into it! Food 2.5/5 -- The food was alright. I cheated from my normal plant-based diet in order to bring this review hot off the presses: I ordered the two pieces chicken and my girlfriend ordered the chicken sandwich. I was immediately surprised by how good the French fries were. Seriously, I dunno if they were double or triple fried, but they were damned good. Then I bit into my drumstick. In a word it was underwhelming; not bad, but not that good either. The breading was pretty tasteless, and the chicken was a little on the dry side. Then to my surprise the chicken breast was very whelming. Like seriously, even though it was tasteless breading, the breast was super moist and flavorful, and went well with the fried coating. It was very shocking that the breat outperformed the drumstick so drastically. As for my girlfriend's chicken sandwich, I would say it was somewhere in the middle. Service 1/5 -- I was debating giving a slightly higher rating, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Our server was totally inattentive, and gave us the minimal service, not even speaking to us as he was clearing our stuff. Bathroom was sadly in the mall. It's what you can expect from a mall bathroom; chemical odors, messed up toilets, and motion sensor faucets that only start to work when you pull your hands away. I went there for brunch with my friends and Joe Bird did not disappoint. We have ordered a chicken sandwich and chicken and waffles and both were delicious! As it is a chicken restaurant, I feel obligated to report on the chicken, even though I didn't personally order it -- most of my friends who ordered the chicken said that it was subpar for the price. Came here with a group of 4 on a Saturday evening around 6, It was quite easy to grab a table indoors but the patio was crowded because it was such a nice day. Service was friendly but slow, we were busy chatting but it probably took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive. We ordered 2 pieces of fried chicken and 2 pieces of smoked grilled chicken with smoky BBQ and Rooster sauces, and chose patatas bravas and poutine as our sides. The portion sizes were smaller than we're used to, they gave us a drumstick and 1/2 breast for fried and thigh and 1/2 breast for smokey however the prices were reasonable at $14 per plate. Both chicken dishes were tasty, the fried chicken wasn't greasy and had good flavor but we agreed that the smoked grilled chicken was the better of the 2, it was more moist and the smoke penetrated the meat making it a more flavourful piece of chicken. I wasn't wowed by either of the sauces but they complimented the chicken well, the rooster sauce was acidic and spicy with a chunky texture while the smoky BBQ was what you'd expect of a bottled sauce. I enjoyed the patatas bravas the most, it had an aioli drizzled overtop and the spices were on point. The poutine was a little confusing, they flavoured it with lemon and thyme to give it some acidity which I thought clashed with the cheese curds a little. The fries weren't crispy but that's to be expected when doused in gravy, but for the price, I felt it was worth trying. The bao and the tacquitos were sold out and we had a mix up with our order but I would say even with the slow service that we had a good experience. Wow, what a great find in Toronto! We totally did not have plan to eat their food! It was totally a coincidence and I was immediately sold when I saw their menu...fried chicken, smoked chicken, bbq chicken...i couldn't refuse! Personally I like the smoked chicken more than the fried. The sauces were just ok though. The poutine was soooo good! They use good quality of cheese! It makes a big difference! Loved it! Best chicken and waffles I ever had. The coffee bourbon(?) sauce , killer. I forget how bad our hospitality servers can be in Canada, but at least half of them here, including my server, were Awsome. Great waterfront patio. Tried this place out and for a first impression, I was very pleased! What attracted me about this place was the decor. I didn't sit in to eat, I ordered takeout but I like that the takeout section makes it seem like you're ordering from a van. I ordered the Smoky Grilled Bird 2 piece which was very tender (I love that especially for chicken breast) and a side order poutine which states in the menu is made with lemon-thyme gravy. The chicken was tender and succulent and the poutine was very good (and it's kind of hard to get poutine right). The gravy gave it a nice touch and the portion size was just what I needed.
