On the other, I couldn't even finish my plate, so it tells you something. The options at this place are rather limited. I ordered roasted pork belly (porchetta) with fries. To my liking, the belly was too hard, it had too much fat and 1 million calories. Non-alcoholic beer was just OK, nothing special. The atmosphere was not pleasant either. I popped into Wvrst for a quick bite before meeting friends for a pub crawl, and it was exactly what I needed. The classic bratwurst with duck fries on the side truly hit the spot. Service was efficient, I was seated at a community table in no time, as it was still early and the place was pretty empty - a party of 5 in a booth and a couple at the end of my community table. A booth might have been more comfortable but it felt a bit excessive to nab one solo. The atmosphere is lively, with music on the louder side, which fits the bar-like vibe. Note to self - next time, don't show up nursing a hangover from the office Christmas party. I didn't partake in drinks this time as I was saving myself for the pub crawl, but if you're in the mood for a brew, they've got an impressive selection of beers on tap. I had some time to kill before my train recently, so I figured I'd pop over to Wvrst to grab a quick drink and meal. I sat down at one of the bar seats and immediately ordered a very tasty beer. I also wanted some food but my server didn't offer a menu, so I began to think the setup was like the King Street location (i.e. I would have to get up to order my food). Anyway I finally asked and was given a food menu. I decided to go with the Oktoberfest sausage ("pork + beef + sage (pork casing)") and I got that in the Currywvrst style. It arrived a little while later and was definitely impressively plated, with the tasty-looking sausage sitting on a bed of sauerkraut and flanked by toasty bread and a small jar of curry sauce. Everything's so good. The sausage is excellent and maybe one of the best Oktoberfest sausages I've ever had. The sauerkraut and bread complement it perfectly, while the delectable curry sauce is ideal for dipping. I really enjoyed my meal at Wvrst. More like 3.5. Came here during happy hour to try their fondue $34 instead of $44 and sausage sampler $23.75. There is plenty of seating, most of which are on communal long tables. I like how many types of mustards they have at each table for you to try. While everything was tasty, it was also quite salty and heavy. My partner and I left with the feeling that we're glad we tried this spot, but we don't think we'll coming back. If there were more vegetables included to be a bit more balanced, that would be better. At other fondue spots they often include some vegetables like roasted broccoli, tomatos, cauliflower, zucchini, etc. The cheese mix itself was delicious, as was the pretzel. While there's been some shrinkage over the years, it's still a good spot if you want to chow down on elevated hotdogs. Went recently and got: - Oktoberfest: great hotdog as usual. - Porchetta Sandwhich: pretty good size, a but too fatty and not roasted crunchy enough for me). - Chips and Dip: chips were overly salty but the french onion dip was one of the best I've had. Surprisingly delicious. A great affordable sit down restaurant in Union station. It also works for a business lunch, except their seating is reminiscent of a beer hall, so you may do well to arrive early or make a reservation to ensure you can get a booth. Pictured is the Porchetta Sandwich ($20) which was very tasty, but a bit hard to eat. It was like there was twenty individual pieces of meat / veggies that kept trying to jump out of my hands! But overall, I still enjoyed it. Wasn't the biggest fan of the salad it came with, but I think that's because all the dressing was on the bottom and I didn't notice until the salad was half done. I am a fan of WURST, having been to the King St. West location fairly regularly. So when I was at the Raptor's game last night, decided to try out the Union Station location. It is our 2nd time being there as we were there August of 2023 before going to WWE SmackDown at Scotiabank Arena. The food & drinks were very good. I really enjoyed this. Like others say, it's a really unique and inviting space. The staff were friendly. The food was very good: I love game sausage, so the venison was a great treat. The toppings they off are a bit unusual, but in a perfect way: so many 'dog joints are all about the same 3 condiments since the beginning of sandwiches. Sauteed jalapeños on a venison sausage? Sounds perfect. Also the sausages were very nicely spiced, but if you don't like spicy there's plenty that's there for you. And then what a wonderful little bar itself. Since I had to take a late lunch, I was one of only two people dining at that time: most were there to grab a drink either as they waited for a train connection or to really work off some existential dread as they guy across from me seemed to be doing. I honestly would have gone there every day of my trip to Toronto for a conference, but of course I need some variety. They are the wurst... Twice!! I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time. I got the dirty duck fries and asked for extra crispy fries. I opened the lid as soon as I got it so it could keep the fries crispy. I took one bite after taking a few steps. Completely soggy. Barely even fried. Why waste good duck fat??? Whatever, figured it's a fluke. Or that I ordered something that had too much stuff on it to make it soggy. Vowed to try it next time with just the fries next time and nothing on it Weeks go by. Make sure you don't order anything but one of the german beers they have, theyre AWESOME. Their pretzels are one of the best i've ever had! so fresh and delicious. Finally gotten the chance to try this location of WVRST. I came here with a coworker as we wanted something different from all the food court food around our office area (also it was the coworker/good friend's birthday). Anyhow, we got here around 11:30 and I noticed there were a lot of reservations. We found a seat by the order counter and started flipping through the menu. After 20 mins of catching up/deciding on what we want, I looked around and saw all the tables were filled with people. PLUS there was a huge line up by noon time. Glad we came early. After much pondering, we decided to get a calabrese and a turkey chicken with a side of duck fries (with chipotle mayo). The food came out after 15 minutes of wait. I liked the flavour of the turkey and chicken, BUT I did find it leaning towards a bit dry. The calabrese my friend order was wow! And the duck fries is as amazing as the King St location. However, at the end of the day, it's probably a bit overpriced for a hotdog. While I appreciate the uncommon meat varieties offered, it's quite a steep price point for a hotdog. Welcome WVRST to the Union Station. I recently visited the new location for team lunch. We made reservation online and got a response end of same the day. We were surprised to see a personalized "reservation" sign with our name on our table; it was a nice. Although WVRST has no table service, a friendly staff explains the menu and order process. Once you order at the counter, you get a number and the staff deliver the food to your table. Indeed this way speed up the service. The place is busy yet the turnover is great. WVRST is famous for the game sausages and dirty fries with duck fat. I had the kangaroo sausage with sweet pepper and sauerkraut; they messed up my sausage toppings but rectified immediately. The sausage had a strong flavour. And don't forget to try their sauces on the table. My group shared the dirty fries which was delicious! They also offer wide choice of beer. Wvrst has a menu comprising of many different unique meats. They have options for the adventurous (elk, venison, crocodile, pheasant, boar, kangaroo), as well as more standard meats (chicken, pork). We got Bison Currywvrst, Kangaroo sausage on a toasted bun, dirty duck fat fries, and the salted maple rosemary ice cream. The bison currywvrst came with bison sausage, tomato curry sauce, and a toasted slice of bread. I really liked the curry sauce; it was tasty, flavorful, and paired really well with the bread. 4/5 For some reason I didn't expect the toasted bun to be a hotdog bun, but I guess it makes sense since it's a sausage! From what I remember you could choose the toppings for the sausage. 3/5 I've read great reviews about the duck fat fries, but honestly they tasted like standard fries to me so I don't understand the hype towards using duck fat. 2.5/5 Overall, I think Wvrst is a great way to try different types of unique meats, but I think making it into a sausage can take away from the texture of the meat itself. I didn't find the bison or kangaroo to taste much different from one another due to this. It would be really cool if they had burger options! Last night I made my 1st visit to Union Station WVRST; it was for an Event with a social Group I'm a Member of to celebrate another Member's birthday. We ended up with 14 people but fortunately we had a reservation and were seated at 2 tables in the north east corner of the venue. I'd previously been to WVRST's other location on King St. W. near Bathurst St. quite a few times and the layout of this location is almost identical to that one. This one is considerably more accessible and is strategically located in between various transit options in the Station. I ordered a Danger Dog, a large sausage on a toasted fresh bun and I chose onions and warm sauerkraut for my toppings. Everything was delicious, it was quite filling and a pretty good value at $6.50 (+ tax & tip). For my 1st time at either WVRST I didn't order a beer but I think everyone else in my Group did and their selection is quite extensive and varied. They also feature extensive and varied cider and wine selections. As at their other location, you go up to order and pay for your food and they give you a number to take back to your table. You also go up to the bar to order and pay for drinks but several of those in my Group had their drinks delivered to them at our tables. The service appeared to be fairly prompt overall and quite courteous. The venue was quite crowded for awhile after I arrived shortly before 6:30 pm but had thinned out considerably some time before I left shortly after 9. During this time, I have not tried the actual location yet and so my first WVRST experience was here. It was busy but efficient at the same time as we ordered on the side and waited with the crow of people.
