Stopped for lunch on the way to Pittsburgh because it was recommended on a gluten free dining site. My wife was excited because they offer a real selection of gluten free sides, not just salads. The food was very well prepared and the staff were friendly and helpful, especially the woman who is the owner/chef. The music is from the 50s and 60s and there is ample seating inside and out. Ample parking but in an unpaved lot so be aware of rain. Expect to spend $20 to $30 per person, but you won't leave hungry. read more

Joe Bosco's is the real deal: authentic, smoky, and made with serious care and quality ingredients. We started with the hush puppies (seriously, these are legendary -- crispy outside, fluffy inside, and perfect with a drizzle of honey), then dove into the main event. The brisket was absolutely phenomenal. We are talking melt-in-your-mouth tender, perfectly smoked with that deep, rich flavor, no sauce even needed (though their house BBQ sauce is killer too). Sides were on point! Their hand cut fries were special. We also got brussel sprouts and a philly cheese steak. When in Pennsylvania, right? The vibe is super chill -- casual indoor/outdoor seating (the patio is supposedly great when the weather's nice according to the server), friendly and welcoming staff who actually seem to care, and the whole place just feels clean, relaxed, and fun. I stopped by here after hiking in the area today. Brisket - good smoked flavor, could be a little more juicy/tender, but good crust and tasty. Burnt ends combo - the combo of the crunch plus the sauce/sweetness was tasty. Ribs - Good dry rub, the meat is tender and tasty. The woman on the other end cuts me off and in the nastiest possible tone said, "Well ask me your question then!" Yeah...no. I hung up and will not be patronizing this establishment. 2nd time here, first time had the brisket, after all, it's a bbq joint. Brisket was good but this time I was hankering for a burger and dang if it wasn't the best tasting burger ever!!!! Hand grind brisket burger to be exact. I opted for the American cheese and freshly made shoe string onions, next time I'll skip the cheese, it took away from that brisket deliciousness. My husband got the pulled pork and he rated it best In all we've tried in NJ. He's from NC and loves his favorite place there the BBQ Hut. They make their BBQ with a vinegar that no one else has done. But he said this is the best for NJ. Oh and the hush puppies dipped in honey were amazing. Worth a trip back just for those sweeties. The service was amazing. I came here with my oldest Marine son. The food tasted good it was the portion according to the price they charge it wasn't worth it. For the mouth food you got it wasn't worth the price it cost it was a little bit expensive and the portions in the matchup. Arrived pretty much around 12:30 and there were a few patrons already, but had a chance to meet with the owner and eventually her husband who is the master behind the scenes. She mentioned they came from NY alto start this business so it was nice to hear how it all began. I read it was BYOB so we brought some good beer to accompany the meal. Everything came out hot and delicious. The burnt ends were my favorite but the brisket and ribs were nicely seasoned. Beans were smoky and tangy. Yes! Finally we found some amazing food n Poconos! We are visiting for the weekend from NY and have been smitten away by the nature but utterly disappointed in local restaurants. Finally we decided to drive 20 min hoping for a better experience. Joe Bosco Smokehouse delivered. We didn't realize that it's a self-service restaurant, but we didn't mind at all. My daughter and I ordered tacos and sides of Brussels sprouts and Mac and cheese. OMG, delicious! My husband enjoyed his Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Everything is as homemade and fresh. I could not possibly complain about this place. However when people come in to this restaurant and complain about a barbecue restaurant taking a normal if not quick amount of time (25-30 minute) to bring out your hand made delicious barbecue you should rethink your decision and probably go to mcdonalds. Had this place bookmarked for when we were back in the area for a hike. So I was excited to try it on one Sunday afternoon. When we arrived the first thing we noticed is that it didn't smell like a smokehouse. We expect smokehouses to smell like well...a smokehouse. But this spot didn't smell like smoke at all. We should have known this would be a let down. Upon arriving a really nice woman informed us (and the line that formed behind us) that they were really busy that day and many things were sold out (like burnt ends and some other popular items). We were still able to try a vast array of menu items. Unfortunately we felt like everything was underwhelming. Every item looked really good when we got it but everything severely lacked flavor and smoke. The upside was that no meat was dry and everything was tender but everything desperately needed smoke or a char. The brisket didn't have a good crust on it and lacked flavor. We found the bbq sauce to be super sweet which didn't give the meat what it needed. It was also heavy on the ketchup. Like it literally tastes like ketchup. The Mac and cheese isn't baked but instead is pasta with a cheese sauce mixed in and crackers crumbled atop. My partner said the ribs tasted like nothing which is so odd because pork is usually so flavorful. The corn bread tasted like jiffy with a few corn kernels thrown in. It really didn't taste like corn at all. The potato salad was also on the sweet side although we liked the combo of red and sweet potatoes. We also liked that it wasn't heavy on the mayo. I gave 2 stars for the nice lady who informed us of the menu and was clear in communicating on how ordering worked. The food here was a major let down and I doubt we will return. I'm surprised at the amazing reviews they have-- maybe the food is inconsistent? You live and you learn. What did I learn? If a smokehouse doesn't smell like smoke... walk away. read more

The Mac and cheese bowl was only a little meat with an absurd amount of Mac n cheese. They don't allow any substitutions with the specials which made no sense. Found this little quaint bbq spot on our way to the winery yesterday and it was a great spot for lunch. Decently quick service for ordering to go. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, burnt end sandwich, and side of Mac and cheese. I am a sucker for good bbq joint Mac n cheese. This was very cheesy and gooey and topped with crunchy breadcrumbs. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful. The burnt ends were very chewy and fatty so maybe just not a good cut of meat on this piece. Only downside I would say is everything comes on potato bread which I am very not a fan of. read more

After a long hike stopped here for a meal and what a great decision! Everything we had was absolutely delicious! We had a cheesesteak sandwich on a pretzel bun, fries with bbq pork, jalapeño and burnt ends.We had a ice cream sandwich cookie with vanilla ice cream even though we were full. Randomly stopped here on the way through town and so happy we did. This place is a hidden gem and I wish we had something like this in Brooklyn. We tried three different meats and they were all amazing, The mac & cheese was the best my kid ever had, And I have to agree it was very good. We were driving back to NJ when stumbled upon this absolute gem! We immediately met the owner Deb who is literally the best. She gave us a run down on everything she had and the fan favorites. We went with brisket, ribs, and burnt ends. Sides we did the potato salad and Mac and cheese. Side note, EVERYTHING is made In house and fresh, it's unbelievable. The ribs were fantastic and fall off the bone, with great flavor that paired perfectly with her bbq sauce. The bunt ends were just fantastic, some of the best we've had. The brisket I can describe with one word....Devine. The brisket was something I'll Be dreaming about for a long time and I'll without a doubt make a drive just for that. The potato salad was fantastic and her corn bread was on par to being the best I've had thus far. I shit you not her Mac and cheese was so damn good. We literally were baffled at first bite.
