This place was good over the last 10 years. This was a regular place for my group of 10-20 people who met on a monthly basis about 6-8 times a year (equating to about $4000 / year before tips). Until last week when we had terrible service by an incompetent waitress with an attitude. Sam, the manager who is very nice course-corrected quickly but the orders were late and all mixed up. My friends and long-term group members asked me to PLEASE no longer book this place and look for a better place in the B'ham / Rochester area. We used to love Joe Kools. We had not been there in several years and decided to give it a try again. Huge mistake. The vibe. The service. SO DARK in there. Several burned out light fixtures. The FOOD. All incredibly lacking. Incredibly disappointing. Service was awful. We our server at one point outside on the patio chatting people up while we not only waited forever for our food, but our drinks ran completely dry. Did not offer to refill them when dinner finally arrived. I had to try to make eye contact with her across the room at one point to get her to return to check on us. Honestly? She seemed pretty bored and that we were pretty inconvenient to her. One of us ordered the Southwest wrap. Barely finished half it was so bad. Fries were greasy. Side salad was a bowl of completely wilted mixed greens with pieces of lettuce that had gone bad. Past visits included wonderful food, attentive service, and a typically pretty busy restaurant, even on a weeknight. It was like crickets in there for a Friday night at 730. The end result was a $79.00 bill for a burger without chips promised on the menu-just the burger, a wrap sandwich and fries, drier than dirt fajitas with the tiniest amount of salsa, cheese and lettuce ever. That is a CRAZY amount of money for a pretty awful meal and worse service. We didn't do drinks tonight, have in the past, or it would have been more. We left an appropriate tip, because it is not cool to do otherwise. But....there was a debate between two in our party to do otherwise, lol. We will not be back unless they undergo a serious transformation, new ownership, or both. Maybe they were having an off night. It happens. One of the weirdest experiences ever. 11:30 pm on a Saturday. Bartender sprints up to me and takes my order. Weirdly wearing an Easter sweater and a short skirt but super gorgeous. I've been coming to Joe Kool's for years, which makes this experience even more disappointing. During my recent visit, the service felt very unwelcoming. Our waitress had an attitude from early on and made us feel rushed the entire time. We were there for only about 45 minutes, had a full meal, and even purchased a bottle of wine, yet we were pushed to check out quickly. Our bill was $93, so this wasn't a small table just taking up space. What bothered me most was the feeling of being rushed out rather than treated like valued customers. After being loyal to this restaurant for years, the experience left me wondering whether we were being treated differently for some reason. No guest should leave feeling uncomfortable or unwelcome. Sadly, this visit explains why the place is often empty. Good food and drinks don't make up for service that makes customers not want to come back. I hope management takes this seriously, because longtime customers notice when the atmosphere changes -- and not in a good way. read more

Great lively sports bar to watch a game with many large size tv's with a good sound system for viewing. I recently came here on a Friday night with a friend for drinks and sat at the bar. It's been over 6 years since my last visit and the whole inside has been updated and renovated. Very clean and more contemporary than it used to be. My only complaint is that it was a little too dark. My friend and i had to use our flashlights on our phones to read the beer/wine list. If I was eating a meal here I definitely would want more light to see. I will update my review when return sometime for a meal or appetizer. read more

My friends and i decided to stop by for what we thought would be a quick drink. Boy were we wrong. Our waitress did what she could and was very helpful, so this post is no shade to her. The bartenders took 30-45 to get us beers, each round. Let's not talk about how long we waited for salads and fries. Almost two hours. We asked for the manager after my friend stepped on a fork that wasn't visible on the floor. Then her foot started bleeding continuously. The manager came over an hour later like oh my bad I thought you were another table. I can call you and ambulance ( laughing as though that was a funny manner) he didn't try to solve the issue but was also very condescending. This is a dirty utensil puncturing someone. Keeping your establishment clean should be a priority but also treating your customers with respect. read more

This was my first and will be my last time going here. Worse server is a Chelsea N. I came in on a Sunday night. They close at 1am. It was 11:50PM when she came to my table. She said the kitchen closed at 11:45pm like 5 minutes ago. I could tell by her lack of concern that the service will be bad. So I ordered a beer. She never came back to my table. So 50 minutes went by and I was finished. Couldn't get a second one because she was nowhere visible or to be found. The place was empty at this point. So I had to walk to the bar and cash out. She just abandoned her job serving me because she wanted to leave early. Lazy and the worst. If she worked for me I would fire her immediately. Find a job in a different industry. We were looking for a spot to meet for lunch and watch a game, when he suggested Joe Kools. We just drove by here the other night and remarked that we had not been back since they renovated. We used to come here somewhat often. But then they closed for renovations and we just sort of forgot about it. Wow!! The whole look has totally changed. I would have never known I was in the same restaurant. It's now more of an upscale sports bar. It's a lot brighter in there and the bar is now enormous and in the middle of the restaurant. There is still a private room for parties and some amazing outdoor seating areas. The bartender was very attentive and was awesome. The waitress was hustling her butt off. They have a great variety of beers on tap. Many local. The food was pretty good. I got steak tips. They were a bit fatty. Not super tender. The zip sauce was tasty. I'm trying hard to go low carb so I only took one bite of the garlic bread and it was delicious. He got the chicken tenders. He didn't really comment on them. I don't think you can really get tenders wrong though. We celebrated a victory, a nice lunch, and great company. They had a huge number of tvs and we definitely liked the atmosphere. I have been going to Joe Kools for over 10 years, even before the updated the interior. Today was the first time I tried their online ordering. I placed my order at 6:30 and was told that the order would be ready at 6:50. When I arrived at 6:50 I was told the order wasn't ready. I was understanding and said I would be happy to wait. As I sat I was never asked if I wanted to order a drink, or even offered a glass of water while I waited. More than 20 minutes passed by and I finally asked the bartender if they could check on my order. Still wasn't ready, still never ask if I wanted anything while I waited. Finally after 30 minutes the manager brought my order. He offered to show me that the ticket was printed at 6:50 which was the time I arrived. I told him that I was never offered to order a drink while I waited. He offered to get me a drink after waiting 30 minutes. I said I wanted a discount on my order. Nothing was taken off my bill. I was extremely disappointed and the manager should have accommodated more. Bottom line don't order on their new website. They fire the order when you arrive, not when the order is placed. read more

Absolute worst restaurant experience of my life. My wife got sick 5 days ago. I saved the food. When I went up to get a refund they were very confrontational and took my food. They refused to give me a refund and in turn gave me a gift card. I ordered carry out today. The food was worse than the last time. I called to talk to the "general manager", an Arabic guy, who told me that he watched my food being made and that although I wanted to bring the food back up there for a refund told me that "I'm not getting shit" and to "go fuck myself". I have this all on recording. This is coming from the general manager. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE ANY BUSINESS! If you do, you deserve whatever kind of service and food that you get. We got sick two times in 5 days, same restaurant. It's either being done intentionally or they just don't care. Go anywhere else but this place. I have the Arabic general manager on recording. I am reaching out to my attorneys tomorrow to see what kind of lawsuit that I can and will follow. Imagine a general manager speaking to you like this? And refusing to give your money back when you have all of the food? I'm going to take care of my issue, and if I have it my way this place will be closed down and general manager and cook fired. But as i said, absolutely the worst food, like they don't even care. Old and cold fries, gave me the wrong burger on one order, other burger burnt to a crisp, onion rings burnt and cold and old. Last night i was part of a group that had reservations to celebrate and watch the Detroit Lions play the San Fransisco 49rs. I have a registered service dog for PTSD. My service dog had his vest on and I also had his Identification with his picture and information on my key ring. As I approached the door at 5:30pm to enter the building I was rudely approached by a middle eastern male who said we dont allow dogs. I stated he is registered service dog and its a federal law to allow him in to public establishments, private ones are different! Public places are required to accept his admittance into the establishment. He said I dont care what he is we dont allow dogs. I stated I was calling the Troy Police department, he said do what you want but hes not coming in here. I stood in the door way as I called 911 and shortly the men in blue came to my rescue!!! They had a conversation with the guy and then came back to me and said there shouldnt be any more problems go enjoy the game! Thank you Troy Police Department!!! read more

Some of the most bland food I have had in my entire life. My mom, sister and gf went here a few months ago after we were told that BWW was closed at like 10pm and this was the only thing around that was open. My mom, sister and gf ordered various things on the menu from pasta to a club sandwich to nachos and all of them found their meals to be underwhelming and bland. I believe I was the only one who kept my meal and didn't send it back because I was so hungry and just needed something to eat. I think this is definitely one of those places where people are usually too drunk to pay attention to how the food tastes, so they aren't too bothered by subpar food, because that's exactly what this is. It's very obvious that the food is just reheated frozen food with little to no seasoning or actual preparation going into it. I would say if at all possible, check out other places in the area. I know COVID has wrecked the service industry, but if you can eat somewhere else, do it. read more

Great restaurant yet equally great sports bar and local goto. Be it burgers, pizza or even shrimp poppers, there's no bad choice on the menu. Personally, I think their D wings are incredible! I did notice they removed their phenomenal tasting tacos from the menu. One of my absolute favourites. The nice thing is JK's is quite welcoming, whether your a drinker or not. Although, I think they serve pop through the gun because it's kinda flat and has a different taste than I'm used to. While JK's smacks of sports bar, I see a few families in for a meal like any other eatery. They also have big screen tv's. The staff is the best. The service is better. The only problem we've ever had was a mistake on the bill. We were grossly overcharged but the manager, Mary, not only corrected the error but bought us both a drink. Total class. Stopped in for lunch. Had to seat ourselves. The server was over with drink and good menu in a matter of minutes. Server was friendly. Ordered a 22 oz Labatt blue light which was a drink special for $3.50. It was cold and tasted good. I ordered the BLT it was on toasted Texas toast. The bacon was crisp like it should be not that soggy crap some places pass off. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and proportioned nicely. This was a good sandwich. We attended an event, with a room reserved for the group. The waitstaff was so nice and apologetic, but it was a disaster based on short staffing. There was one waitress, she took our drink order and it took about 20 minutes to come. When it did, it was wrong. We ordered two Dirty Blondes and got something totally different and not delicious, but we drank them. Before we could order food, she announced the kitchen was not taking any more orders they were so backed up. It was about 7:00 on a Friday night, so a wait is expected, but it was an hour later that orders could be entered again, and by then we were using the ATM to get cash so we could leave and not have to bother her with credit card while she was taking everyone's orders. I know none of this would normally happen, based on prior experience at Joe Kool's - but the staffing was just not there... Oh, and at the entrance - a sign saying seat yourself...so you had no idea that it was going to be as busy as it was. read more

We like to eat here for lunch or after my son's hockey games. It's a great place for meeting up with friends or eating in a big group, especially if you are wanting to watch the big game. The food is above average, most of it is bar food plus salads and a few entrees. It's prepared well, and there are a few really good things on the menu. I had the fish and chips once and it was amazing, the wings are good and the burgers are pretty big. You won't find a ton of gluten free or vegetarian options, but there are a few. The staff is great, and you can see TVs pretty much anywhere you sit. It can get a little loud, but we have had business lunches here with no issue. Plenty of tables or booths, so you can fit larger groups if needed. Overall, it's a solid place for all of your dining wants. read more

Man where to begin. Ordered a deep dish pizza on the phone for carry out. Wife picked it up on her way home from work. Right away realized it wasnt deep dish. Decided to eat it anyways as I was really hungry. Bit in to it and realized it was quite tuff and also realized the dough was under cooked. So drove it back and told them what the problem was. They remade the pizza which still didnt look like deep dish. Now after the second pizza they had to made they tell me they dont serve deep dish any more. So problem started with an out dated menu on their website. By now im getting really hungry so I decided just to deal with it took home to eat it. Once agian it was undercooked. So basically the pizza was super greesy soggy on the bottom, raw in the middle and the cheese was tuff and over cooked. Sheesh. Easy reservation and the waitress had no problem getting everyone their food and drinks quickly. Great food and large portions on all the meals we ordered. The reserved area was clean and ready for our guests. We came here as a large group (50+)on Saturday. We called a couple days ahead to make a reservation and then called the day ahead to make sure everything was all set. This place was a disaster as they had no clue how to handle a large group. They gave the area two waitresses, for this size of a party the poor girls could not keep up with even getting people drinks. Food came out in random order, people that ordered first got some of their food last. The appetizer that I ordered for the table came out after half of the table got their food. The food quality was not there and the waitstaff was not up for the challenge. And the manager seems like he hid in his office or busied hisself on the other side of the restaurant. Most people left thirsty as no one was asking if people wanted refills or another drink from the bar. I do not recommend this place especially if you have a large group to feed. read more
