Never buy from this dealer. The Finance manager Mark Stant will try to scam you out of an extended warranty

I bought a 2017 Ford escape titanium on 12/13/2025 and in February the change oil light came on. I had the oil changed and was told my oil was black. In March my check engine light came on and I called Joe Machens and was informed I would need to pay $175 to have them look at my vehicle. The light went out and then came back on with the temp gauge jumping to high. I had the vehicle towed to another dealership and it appears coolant was leaking into the vehicle. I cannot believe that when Joe Machens did their 125 point check, it did not inform them that coolant was leaking. Now I am stuck with a car that needs very expensive repairs all because Joe Machens sold me a lemon and I refuse to do business with them again and recommend no one else because they had to know something was wrong with this car that they sold me. read more

Sold my vehicle to Joe Machens Ford in Columbia, MO under the impression that they were a reputable business who values their customers. They told me that they would not be able to sell my car on the lot and that it would have to be sent to auction because it was 8 years old. They said they would most likely "only get a few hundred bucks" after paying auction fees. We agreed to a price based off the assumption that my car wasn't worth much due to its age. Ford then proceeded to put my car on the lot with a sale price that was over double what they paid me for it. I went back to Ford to question them about why they didn't offer me a fair price. They simply said if I wasn't happy with the price they offered then I shouldn't have sold it to them. I will not be doing business with them in the future and neither should you. read more

Joe machens Ford service department is nothing but a disappointment yet again. They have had my vehicle for almost a week for a simple tire repair and alignment. For starters they're just money hungry he tried to tell me that they could only get me a rim for $1000. I found one for $295. He tried to tell me like oh yeah, I would run this through insurance for a simple tire replacement, with a wheel alignment and mount and balance. Umm no! Next if you go into the service center all the employees will walk past you as if you are invisible. However an older white gentleman walked in after me and they were quick to ask him if he needed assistance and what could they do for him. Ok I let that go. Monday I bring them the tire and rim they say is needed to complete the repair. I was told then my car would be completed. I hear nothing I even let it go as there my have been cars ahead of me. Tuesday comes I uber up there and my car is moved but further in the Parking lot behind other cars that need repair. I go inside yet again and to no surprise I'm invisible again. Many workers look at me standing there and say nothing. after about 6 mins Kyle appears and I ask him if my car will be completed today. He tells me "oh yes I just talk to the technician and you are going to be worked on today. There was a car stuck on their line but it was down now etc." Basically a bunch of excuses but mind you they don't call and communicate this at all. Furthermore Ubers are expensive and that's what I'm using until my car is fixed and I've attempted to call up to the service center as my questions could be answered that way, however they never answer or call back. I legit hate I had to take my car here but to keep it under warranty and the road side assistance I have through the dealership it had to go to a ford dealership. This place is a complete joke! I wouldn't dare recommend taking your vehicle here. All you will be fed is lies and the customer service is horrible. I haven't been a fan of any of the Mac hens dealership for a long time but FORD HAS GOT TO BE THE WORST AND MOST DISAPPOINTING! read more

Recently bought a 2017 ford explorer and the water pump went out in 2 months. It was 13 hours of labor and cost me $2000. Machens said too bad. You would think that's not a horrible experience but it's better then the last time I bought a Camry and they didn't know where it was at when I had the claims person try and come look at it. Apparently they don't trust their own team to do some of the repairs so they shipped it off. Shame on me for going back. read more

Went here for a claim after a collision. Within a few minutes, they gave me a quote to replace the fender. However, they also brought some device to bang out the dent and said that they would do that for free. 10 minutes later, I was leaving the lot with the dent repaired and reassurance that it was not affecting the steering or anything at all. On October 11th we drove two hours to look at a fusion from Jimmy. On the way there we were told there was an issue with the radio but we could come in and look. By the time we got there, it was fixed. Transaction went well, but within 20 minutes of leaving we realized the Bluetooth audio and hands free doesn't work and the radio didn't match the VIN according to Sirius. We immediately went back and spoke to Jimmy via text where he replied "We will make it right. It might be something simple. I will ask service first thing in the morning." Two texts later on the 16th, I finally get a response "going to get answers as we speak." All the way to 22 October, a week later and I am told they were going to pick up the car and give me a loaner as I live two hours away. I got a quick call from service that they would be reaching out. Now in January, I have let Jimmy know again it still isn't working and I can't take it to a local ford dealership under warranty because they swapped out the radio. He agreed that Joe Matchens not fixing it was wrong. January 28th, I let Jimmy know I still haven't heard anything. I am promised that "I'm so sorry. I will do whatever it takes tomorrow to get you taken care of. This is unacceptable." I even offered to repair the radio myself if they sent the part. No answer. It's is now February 1st and I haven't heard anything back. The dealership has no problem returning calls for my trade in, needing more information for the transaction, or walking them through other paperwork needed for the deal. They seem to have a much larger problem with standing by their repairs and making things right with communication and promises. I would really like to get my radio fixed as I was told it was before I purchased the car. The offered $25,000. What a waste of time and gas. I had another dealership run the VIN and told me outright that he could not get close. You could have done the same. Unfortunately, I do not live in the same state so seeing everything in person made it challenging. Her salesman Dean Sidener was so patient and communicated the information we needed in a timely matter. We managed to work out a deal to the price we were willing to pay immediately. He made the process so much less painful than most dealerships. We understand they have a business to run but he took such good care of her with no unnecessary constant haggling. Keep as far away as you can from this place especially there body shop. Came into the body shop on a Friday for an estimate, got the estimate and was told to bring my truck back the following Tuesday for the repair, no problem. I brought the truck in Monday so they could all of Tuesday to work on it if need. So around 4:20pm I called the shop asking how the work was going and Justin said "I don't know". Well they close at 5 so I said please call me when find something out. So now its Wednesday afternoon and Inhavent heard a word, so again I called in and Justin's voicemail. Left message to please call me, nothing till I called back at 4 at which time answered and said he still wasn't sure what's taking so long. So it's at this time that I got in my car drove up there to the shop to find my truck parked in the same exact spot I had parted it in on the Monday. Now it's Thursday around noon, no word from the body shop so I called in and asked for the manager, "Doug" gets on the phone and says sorry for the miscommunication but your trucks not done, I said I know cause I still see it parked out in the parking lot. He said you can come get the truck or we will deliver it. I told him to deliver my truck and that was it. I said where is your communications skills sorry, no hay I tried calling you didn't answer, no hay I can I have it few more days as we are behind. No of that just come get your truck. In 2014 Joe Machens helped me out of a difficult situation. Gary and Marc were a pleasure to work with and did everything they could to get me in a reliable car that I could afford. Ever since then I spoke extremely highly of Joe Machens despite hearing a lot of negative reviews about them the past couple of years from friends and colleagues. Fast forward to today when I came back to Joe Machens tp purchase a new family friendly vehicle as a Mustang just doesn't fit a car seat for my 7 month old daughter. This time I had a pre approved loan through a local credit union and speaking with her over the numbers it looked like we were going to be able to make a deal within the budget my wife and I decided on. I was excited to walk in, sign a couple documents, and walk out with the new car. When I got to Machens it was an entirely different story. They decided to lower my trade in value much lower than the original amount discussed and this threw the entire budget off. Marc once again worked very hard to make things fit but they wouldn't budge on their pricing either way. In comes the salesperson (who I won't mention) who then TELLS me I HAVE to get this vehicle because it's only X amount difference than what I was quoted. I was taken aback because what right does he have to demand me to do something outside of my allotted budget? Completely inappropriate. He then doubles and tries to guilt trip me saying that the other dealership had two other buyers and he held them off saying that this vehicle was sold. Why in the world do I care about that? Why are you trying to guilt trip me into a deal that could potentially put me into financial hardship? I walked away from the deal learning a valuable lesson. Awful service with extremely poor communication among staff members. I had an appointment for two recalls on my Explorer that was scheduled 5-6 weeks in advance. I dropped the vehicle off for my 10:30am appointment. I was told that it should be "a couple hours". 3:30pm rolls around and I decide to call and ask how long it would be. They explain that they forgot to get to it and said they would check to see if it would be finished by the end of the day. I get a call back from another employee stating that they ordered the wrong part and that the new part would not be in. I am not sure how or when I was going to be notified if I would not have called in. When I get a ride back there they give a casual apology and hand me my keys. I ask where the vehicle is and the employee states "Maybe out front or possibly in the back." Mind you, the temperature is -1 degree and snowing. I bought a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 from these guys about 8 months ago and come to find out they told me one price than after all done they actually charged me more than the book value on the truck my payments were $500 a month and I live on a small income from SSI Disability and live with my GF so her income helps. I broke down and had to stay in my car all night and at 6:30 AM one of the technicians came in he allowed me to stay inside and have a cup of coffee while it was pouring rain outside even though they weren't open for 30 minutes then a little before they normally opened the service writer came to me and asked me exactly what was wrong and had a technician look at my car within 30 minutes of getting there even though they were totally poked up had other people in front of me he got me in a diagnosed my problem The correctly and were able to repair my car within 4 hours. With a total bill that was less than their original estimate and they completely pulled my fuel tank down and cleaned it they replaced a fuel filter checked injectors clean them did not try to upsell me or misdiagnose or mislead mate they were a 100% honest fair on the price and as they said they care about people. This is what a Ford dealership and every 4 dealership in the country should Strive to be like. Chris the service writhe service writer was amazing the service manager there very nice very responsive came over to make sure everything was OK and when I did go leave. And when I left and had a problem on the road they sent the tow truck out immediately got me brought me back fixed the problem and fix the problem that another Ford dealership in Colorado Loretto tried to fix but didn't have the time as they said so this dealership matching forward went over and above and totally out of their way to make sure I got home and to make sure that everything on my car was fixed properly even though my car is almost 20 years old they made sure that it worked and ran perfectly and didn't imperfectly and did everything they said they were gonna do. On a personal note: I'm sick and tired of dealers (not just a Machens Ford problem) low balling trade-in values and saying that KBB isn't accurate. We eventually came to an agreement that I was happy with (shoutout to Jeremy for working with me - no thanks to Jonathan) but the process of going back and forth with them is just so frustrating. Just give me a fair value to begin with. Anyway, Yanis more than made up for that frustration by delivering the vehicle to my home and closing at my home. That made the process totally worth it. I can honestly say that after these purchases, along with 8 years of service work on those vehicles, I have never had a negative experience at this dealership. Brad has always been extremely knowledgeable and helpful in each of my purchases. I have never found the sales managers to be anything but fair and honest. I have had all of my scheduled maintenance and warranty work done at the Machens service department, and everything they do is always prompt. From my regular oil changes, to any repair work that I have had, I always take my car back knowing that it has been done right. Drove from St. Louis to look at a vehicle based on description and photos. The truck was not as pictured and the sales manager admitted they used photos from the internet not photos of the actual vehicle. Then he said the photos were not listed as actual photos of vehicle though the web site said they were actual photos. I'm sure they would change the photos if the BBB checked into them. This truck had bungee cords holding the running boards on. The front bumper was dented in. The rear bed had a 6 inch tear in it and the tail gate was sprung to the point so it couldn't even open. There was a quarter inch of bondo in the front fender that was letting go exposing rust, the passenger side was scrapped all the way down the side. The inner fender well was hanging lose. The clampets drove a nicer vehicle. They tried to bait and switch with another more expensive vehicle. Don't trust them! read more

Me and my wife were looking at a car and we filled out the credit app. As we had time to breathe from the high pressure sales tactic we changed our mind. We asked them to not run the credit report. The next day I get a text asking if I wanted him to send it off to my bank. I said no not right now. He ran it anyway and said because we signed it he had a right to do it. We told him in person that night we didn't want to. Nothing but a 6'3 snake. If you deal with these guys be careful I'd bring a lawyer too. I was shopping on January 10 for an F350 Ford truck with my son for a truck he had picked out. The truck was supposed to be a red tag clearance price . The price Joe Machens had it for was 45,760. I looked up the price on CarGuru by the Vin number. The red tag clearance price was over 6,692 dollars above the market value. The Instant market value of the truck was only 39,068. I told them about the price quoted on CarGuru. They would not even negotiate any money off there price of vehicle. I guess Joe Machens is only out for themselves. They have the whole Columbia, Missouri market so they feel they do not need to ask reasonable prices for their vehicles. I will be shopping in St. Louis or Kansas City were there is more competition. read more

The worst!!!! We settled on a price. Then when we went to finance they slipped in two "warranties" we didn't ask for. We had to have them re do the paper work three times. Then when we thought everything was correct we received the payment book in the mail. It still had the higher price. Our loan ended up about $2000 more then the negotiated price. Before my wife and I met she bought a used vehicle from Here and the extended bumper to bumper warranty after many issues and fighting over them to fix the problems I had about had it with this dealership when the final straw came about. She took her vehicle in because the sunroof was leaking they informed her they put it in a "vehicle pressure chamber" and tested the window which had no leaks! After I drove to MO to confront the guy that told her this he denied it to my face until my wife came around the corner and he started back pedaling.. Buying experience was fine. My issue is with how things were handled post purchase by Joe Machens. 1: I turned my heat on in my vehicle for the first time since purchase (3 days after leaving the lot) and my windshield cracked. Thought no biggie, I'll call the dealership and they'll handle this. They told me I bought the car in "as in" condition and nothing could be done... Great. Before making my first car payment, I now have a $300 windshield to take care of. This is a great way to retain customers who would have likely recommended you to friends and family. 2: I received my title in the mail from the dealership with the wrong make and model listed. They had also listed my address as the banks address. I feel this was just pure laziness on their part. Filling out a title and making sure you send the CORRECT title shouldn't be hard work. 3: Finally received the correct title in the mail, along with a prepaid envelop to send the incorrect title back, which is fine. I do not have a problem taking care of that. I started looking at the new title a little closer and found that they had misspelled my last name. I gave them a call to ask about it and they asked that I come in to sort out the issue since I now have two titles, for two different vehicles in my hands, along with tons of paper work and several affidavits in attempt to correct all the problems they had caused. Now comes the fun part. I made it in to the dealership to sort out all the paper work and titles. The lady that I spoke was incredibly rude and spoke to me like I was a dog. She maintained a very smug smile on her face which I would find very hard to do when talking to customer that way. She must have lots of practice. In the last two years, we have bought three cars from Joe Machens owned dealerships. I think we'll look elsewhere in the future. read more

I wish I could rate the sales and the collision repair separately. My car buying experience was not pleasant and I ended up purchasing through a different Ford dealer. However, when my car was rear ended recently, I knew I wanted the dealership to do the repairs and Machens is the closest. Their Collision Repair team is wonderful! From the estimate to the actual repairs, they did phenomenal. They kept me informed, helped with my car rental, had the repairs done more quickly than the quoted estimate in time, and you can't even tell. They even bent my license plate back and cleaned the front floor mats. Everybody I spoke to was kind and helpful. They should get 5 Stars! read more
