I recently went in to look at a few vehicles because I am in the market to get a newer vehicle. I test drove a Buick Encore Gx and was not impressed with the vehicle. I allowed the disenfranchised plastic salesman to run my credit and he came back with numbers for what I was willing to give as a down payment leading the monthly payment to be 600+ a month. I said no because I was not willing to go over my budget. I left. Well the weekend passes and I get an automatic message saying the were able to lower my monthly payments to a stunning 525 a month... Yeah no. I noticed they had a Hyundai Kona on the lot that looked interesting. I wanted to test it for fit because I have an issue with my hip and am looking for a bigger vehicle. I set up a test drive for that Monday at 10:15am. I took care of my business needed to set up a private loan for the car I am looking for then head off to the dealership. I get there and am told the guy I was working with was not even going to be there and I was "handed" off to someone else to work with. Telling me I wasn't even worth their time. I sit down with the call girl they handed me off to and I ask about the test drive and get told they were going to help me find something... So, I help her "narrow" down what I am wanting in a car. She goes to talk to her financial fecal manager. He comes over telling me my business would only be worth around 11k. They both tell me they have a Jeep renegade that might fit and proceeds to talk to me like I was stupid. I ask the girl about the Kona, the reason I came in and am told that ALL their Konas are all magically out on test drives and the only one they could get would be another dealership on the other side of town and how they haven't messaged them back. Ok... I ask about a VW Taos and am told that all of them are gone and they sold their last one. She gets up and says I am going to pull around the vehicle to test. I am thinking the Kona got back. Nope. She pulled around the Jeep. Wtf. They are professional bait and switch artists. So, if you want to get intimidated and pigeon holed into a POS car then yes indeed go get arse rammed by professionals. 10 out of 10 would recommend bringing you own lube cause you are going to get nailed. read more

Update on my last review... I spoke with my daughter again once she got home and she tells me that when they gave her an invoice of items they recommended she have done, she said she would think about it and to please bring her car around. They told her that she needed to sign a waiver because her car was unsafe to drive and she should get a ride home because the work needs done otherwise she will have to wait in the waiting room while they put the tires back on and is she sure because it's not safe. So they intimidated and tried to strong-arm a 20 year old young woman into getting $2500 worth of work at their dealer because her car is unsafe. Her four year old car still under an extended warranty. Absolutely despicable. read more

No Hassle car dealership. I saw the vehicle I wanted on their website and I called to inquire, I took action a few hours later and did the rest via text message (since I live 2-hours from Columbia). My salesman (Jonathon Martin) assisted me through the entire process for getting documentation for the loan process) so I'd be ready when my approval went through. Unfortunately, we did this on a busy holiday weekend and John forgot to check the text messages and scanned documents before he left for the day. So, I waited . On Monday, he texted and asked if I'd sent over everything ..I was perturbed that he hadn't done his due diligence and checked all the 9 pieces of documents he said he'd print out and give to finance. (So here I did all of that as quickly as I could on Friday.. at his request and he hadn't the courtesy to check his texts). This was a concern (it felt as if he wasn't confident in this online sale)...yet, I was. I resent every document again and counted 5 seconds between sending each one (to make sure he had them). I called but he was with a customer (frustrating). He texted more about dates on my documents..(I told him to look at the dates I'd sent). So, finally he picked up the phone and called me (this time he was with the finance guy). Anthony Heaper.They asked questions that were basically in front of them, so calmly I responded and they told me they'd call me back after the credit check, etc. Once they did, I was on the road (through a winter weather advisory) snow started drifting and accidents started happening, but I was on my way to get a vehicle I liked. So, the clouds cleared, the sun came out when we got near Columbia and we arrived on time to a smiling bright eyed, pleasant Jonathan Martin. The personality of the receptionist was bubbly, personable and down to earth (that's a plus)! This dealership is bright, clean and warm. Jonathan had the vehicle at the front door, cleared off, warmed up and ready for me! We decided to inspect the vehicle 1st. Jonathan pulled the vehicle into the bay where I could keep warm, drink my coffee, tea, hot chocolate, etc(they have lots of complimentary snacks while you wait). I inspected the vehicle and then he drove it to the front door handed me the keys and off we drove. He knew where the good spots to drive were (gravel, turning spots, hills, etc). So, the car passed! Back at the dealership, my mother had her VW checked by (Michael Soukup, Service technician)...he was polite and courteous and bent over backwards to assist her. The entire car buying process lasted 4 hours. I saw several single ladies purchasing vehicles and a couple families. The place was busy but the attention was focused on the client directly in front of the salesperson. With one finance person, everyone had to wait to sign their paperwork. I asked if the vehicle could have a few touch ups but the manager declined saying the vehicle was priced as-is and that was all. (I believe a tall, blonde, with long hair, perfect complexion and flirtiness would be able to get them to do whatever she wanted them to do). So, if you have the confidence in asking for what you want and putting your foot down on a deal...I'm sure they'd work with you. I wanted a crack on the vehicle to be epoxied better, so, it wouldn't crack if a rock hit the vehicle. I asked for a military veterans discount and AAA/USAA. They said no. He had the vehicle cleaned, filled up and inspected before I took possession and told me to come back in 30-days for another inspection. I got into the vehicle and he handed me the keys (walked back into the store because he had clients at his desk) and I had NO CLUE how to start it. So, I had to politely ask him to excuse himself to show me how to start/stop this luxury vehicle. Now that I have the vehicle, I have to go to the manufacturer to ask about the vehicle because I didn't get a VW and it's a luxury SUV. I'm happy with the vehicle. I'm glad Joe Machens knows how to fairly price vehicles so that everyone can have a nice one to drive in. I wish the process didn't take forever. I'm happy the sales team has their photos online. I knew who I was talking with and it was great. They need to have wiggle room in completing the sale with requests from customers. The online/text process has to get better...when someone sends their PRIVATE/PERSONAL financial history to you..you need to check that ASAP and not sit on it. That's DANGEROUS!! Print it out right then, check dates, write down what they say about time length, job, etc. Repeating too often is frustrating. Before the customer leaves, a picture of them should be taken with their keys (if they want a picture) and they need to be educated on how to start/stop the vehicle, etc. :-) read more

I had to wait for 30-days for my VW Passat's routine maintenance appointment, but that's life sometimes. Once I got there, they did not have my appointment in the books, which was a tad disturbing, but I didn't receive a reminder text, so I thought something was up. Fortunately, Chris squeezed us in and took care of everything. I dropped off the vehicle at 10 AM, and it was finished by 4 PM ~ much sooner than I expected based on the situation. It looks like the mechanics did excellent work. The only reason the Service Department didn't get a 5-star rating today is because of the scheduling mix-up. Everything else was great! read more

I had to wait at the shop more than four hours to get an estimate. I was't given any explanation or what so ever but just had to wait. The staff wasn't helpful nor friendly.Finally, the estimation I got was beyond my expectation. It was way much more than what my car is worth: again, not much explanation about the estimate. As someone who lives 90 miles away, I appreciate the fact that they take appointments for routine maintenance. First come, first serve dealerships make for long wait times when you can't get there early in the morning. Always have had a good experience here. To be honest, I rate this dealership a 5 for its service and 3 for its sales. In terms of service, they are extremely flexible with scheduling vehicle drop offs and pickups and they have always made loaner cars available to me for lengthy service (for shorter service, I use their shuttle). They do a fantastic job keeping my vehicle in shape. I have had zero problems with it during my car's lifetime. In terms of sales, I found my particular salesman to be very pushy. I think we could have gotten a better deal on the price of our car but he was very stubborn and at times, disrespectful during our negotiations. read more

Hands down, Joe Machens Volkswagen in Columbia, MO has the worst customer service I've ever experienced; not just at a car dealership, but with regards to any business. On Friday evening, I negotiated a price for a Toyota 4Runner, and signed a non-binding contract to return with cash in hand within 7 days. The salesman placed a "sold" sign on the car and assured me it would not be shown to any more customers. I returned on Tuesday, just 4 days later and still before our agreed upon deadline, with cash in hand only to find out the car was being sold to someone else on the spot. When I questioned them about the deal we had reached, I was told that the dealership viewed it as unlikely someone would follow through, so they went ahead and sold it, without regard for their first, original customer, and neglected to even notify me the deal was off. They couldn't even save me the trip to the dealership. Not only did I want this vehicle, I needed it to return to my military base and move my belongings cross country. Needless to say, I now need to find a new vehicle, after already purchasing insurance and everything. I spoke with several salesmen, finance managers and anyone else that would speak to me. Nothing was done besides an apology and a comment "business is business." I would recommend strongly to anyone that is in need of a vehicle not to purchase from this dealership, because they have proven that a deal in fact means nothing to them, and they will take whatever money is shown to them first. I went there as a young student looking for my first car. Danny Seitz was the salesman who helped me. I work at Taco Bell, and although I get paid well there, my income is very limited but I needed a car and I saved up for one. I looked at their 2012 Fiat that was priced at $10,900. They told me to take it home so I did and I got it inspected. It had $2500 worth of repairs that needed to be done which was partially because it missed the 30,000 mile inspection. They lied and told me that it retailed at $12,980...the military told me it was only worth $10,100 in great condition, which it was not. Average car dealer though. They refused to give me my car keys, forcing me to take this car for another day and I had to put gas in it to get home. The next day, I went back to get my car and they continued to argue with me when, at this point, I definitely didn't want the car. The managers then came out and offered $9,500 but I was late for work and done. I was tired of them trying to talk me out of getting my car back like I requested. They accused me of being a liar and using them to get one of their cars for a few days which was ridiculous. If I am making a commitment and spending a lot of money then I want a car I love and is at a great price. Don't treat me like just a paycheck and NEVER tell me that you will finance me because my Military Banking won't finance for more than the car is worth. I'm not stupid enough to pay more than the worth of the car. I will never go back to this dealer. *One good note. There is a salesman, Drake, who is absolutely amazing. I ordered a part from this dealership and their parts manager called me and told me that he thought that the part did not fit my vehicle, even though the VW website said that it did using a VIN lookup. The part came in and was missing pieces, and was used. The parts person who was working the counter told me that he didn't have access to refund the money that was already taken from my checking account. I asked for a manager and was summarily dismissed. I called the front desk and asked to speak to a manager, and was summarily ignored. I asked the very indifferent parts counter person if he could order the one I originally ordered and paid for and he told me that he had done so without touching hia terminal. So I asked to see the screen and pointed out that the order had not in fact been entered and his response was that all of the orders go in at once at 11am. Really? So I went to the front desk and proceeded to try to speak to someone in charge, what I got was some tough guy named berry telling me to leave. Now. I have purchased a 2014 jetta from them, a 2017 honda civic from machens and a 2018 jetta. And I am swept away like so much dirt? They TRUELY could not care any less about their customers. Even though I have spent over $80,000 with them, still treated with distain. I have no $236 part, and was thrown out like a vagrant. Bought a three-year old car and was given only one key at that time. I asked about a second key and the metal key and the salesman told me he would ask the "key" custodian about it. The salesman never contacted me, about a week later I had to call for a follow-up. Same tap and dance routine. Another week goes by and no contact from the dealership. I called again and got the same tap and dance routine. I have left a message for the manager to contact me. At this point I will go get extra keys made. Post sales customer service is non-existent. Stay away!!!! Condition of advertised price changed after pay off of trade was revealed. Basically tried to add 6-7 thousand dollars back into deal. They will hold your keys and not let you leave. I had to asked multiple times for my son's keys to be returned so we could leave. Then we were followed to all the way out to our car door after we finally got they key back. All of this after I told salesman "If we give you his keys I don't want to ask more than once for them back". Naturally that did not work. Not the first experience I have had with a "Machens" dealership holding my key. Several years ago I had to threaten to call the police to get my key back from the Toyota dealer. My wife got this flyer from Joe Machen's Volkswagen. We are in a credit repair program right now, so this was a bit of a surprise. She has a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta with the diesel which just went through all of this emissions thing from the epa. This was a $35,592 vehicle when we bought it new. Since the epa emissions it has drastically dropped leaving up way upside done on our loan. We thought maybe this could be our way out of this loan and vehicle since the emissions fix has basically cause fuel economy and power loss. So, she contacted them as described in the flyer. We picked out a 2018 Tiguan that we liked listed online with a price of $27,012 online. They schduled a time for her to look at it and test drive it. She gets there and the it's not there. No, they didn't sell it, the General manager has been using it for his personal vehicle for the past 2 weeks. She test drives a similar vehicle.She liked the way it drove, but wanted the one that wasn't there. They figure the numbers on it. Selling price, which is also sticker price is what they quoted her. $29605. Are you serious? $2593 higher than advertised??? They offered $7000 trade. So let me get this right. 4 years ago we gave $35592 for it and now you only want to give us $7000. Leaving us on the hook for $6000 when your original lies caused the value of the vehicle to plummet. So you want us to give $35,605 for a vehicle that stickers at $29000. Hope treating my wife different than you would have if I was there was worth all the reviews I will post over this. read more

Buyer beware!!!! Be very careful of even walking into this business. We have had nothing but headaches. Everything from paperwork completed incorrectly and then taking months to get the correct paperwork, incorrect information about the vehicle purchased, and missing necessary parts (like the proper locking wrench for the lug nuts to the tires). When we finally found out we couldn't get the tires off to replace them at the tire shop we went we searched everywhere for the correct wrench and no one had one. We then attempted to call the dealership a couple of different times and no one was available to assist us or return our phone call. Thankfully it is just a routine tire change and not an emergency since it is now past business hours and still no solution on how to change the tire without destroying something. We are not the only ones to have had this problem from what one of the stores informed is while searching for the wrench. For more information contact the BBB. 19 days have now passed and they still have failed to be able to produce the wrench required to be able to change our car tires. They have contacted the BBB and lied to them closing the case stating that we have failed to come by the store to resolve the issue when in fact we have come by twice (and have documentation to prove it) read more
