I wouldn't recommend All Star Automotive. While the staff were polite and professional, the overall experience left me feeling misled and taken advantage of. I was referred by AAA and dropped off my 2011 Dodge Journey after it broke down the same day the check engine light came on. Justin, the service advisor, called the next morning and was respectful throughout. I had asked them to assess the car overall while it was in their care, but I didn't expect them to take advantage of that request by recommending over $7,000 in repairs--especially when the actual issue I described wasn't even addressed at first. They claimed they couldn't replicate the engine shutting off problem after two hours of diagnostics. I had shared with them that there previously had been an issue with the crankshaft position sensor and replacing that part resolved the breaking down problem in the past. They presented a long list of repairs to honor my request for a general diagnostic, yet found no issue with the crank shaft position sensor after two hours of diag. Their recommendations were: * Replace recirculating air actuator (for the dash clicking I asked them to assess) - $335 * Valve cover gasket - $293 * Fluid leak inspection - $115 * Spark plug boots * Four new tires - $1,098 * Brake fluid flush - $208 * Replace front and rear struts/shocks - $3,334 * Alignment - $150 None of these explained the engine dying mid-drive. They later said low oil had caused a "safety shutdown," and recommended an oil change--the only repair I accepted. The oil change was $175, with $69 for labor to flush, fill, clean, and inspect various systems and the remaining for parts. My final bill was $764, mostly for diagnostics billed at $164/hour for two hours total. The first hour was spent scanning and testing for codes (none found), and the second was spent assessing the dash clicking I had requested they look at. I didn't realize that asking them to assess the car overall would lead to two separate diagnostic charges--especially since it was all part of the same visit. To make matters worse, the car broke down again less than half a mile after picking it up. Fortunately, they included a free towing coupon with the oil change. When the number didn't work, the staff helped arrange the tow and loaned me a car for the weekend, which I appreciated. They did offer a second diagnostic for free since the first didn't identify the root cause. This time, they found "multiple codes," and documented signal drop in the crankshaft sensor after tapping it. This matched exactly what I had mentioned in my initial note, making it even more frustrating it took three hours of diag and nearly $800 to confirm. By that point, I no longer trusted their pricing or judgment and declined the $300 repair to replace the crankshaft position sensor. I had the part replaced elsewhere in Columbia for $110, and the issue was resolved with no problems in the 3 weeks since. There were also smaller but telling issues: the oil change light wasn't reset, the second invoice didn't mention the post-service breakdown within half a mile, and it inaccurately said I drove to my "dorm room"--I haven't lived in a dorm in five years. These details may seem minor, but combined with the rest, they reflect a lack of attention and professionalism. Justin later called to ask how I'd rate the service. He remained friendly, but the vague communication, excessive pricing, misdiagnosis, and upselling throughout my experience with All Star overshadowed any courtesy. Tried to charge me $1200 for new ball joints when Firestone had inspected car a day earlier, took back to Firestone and they said they just needed to be tightened and greased as whoever put them on last did not tighten them all the way. Always get a second opinion! read more

NEVER go here! They will scam you! They wanted to charge me $89 just for a tire pressure monitoring system testing and $165 for testing procedure to tell me that I need a know motor/regulator assembly. I then ask why I still had to pad for the "tire pressure system testing" if you didn't find anything and just put air in them. They then proceeded to tell me the new "motor/regulator assembly" would be OVER $520!! I then asked two other auto shops and they both said that is way too much, even just to do the "testing" And then both quoted me a lot less! PLEASE do not waste your money here! I will say, the people were nice. read more

Disappointed. After spending over $10k in services for two different vehicles in the last 6 months, I had hoped for better service or more integrity. Called last week to set up an appointment for oil change and ac leak check following previous service. I told the advisor at the time of scheduling that I wanted to wait at the shop while services were performed. He then suggested I set up a 9am appointment that way both technicians would be there to get my vehicle handled quickly. When dropping off the vehicle this morning at 8:55am, they told me that they wouldn't even look at my vehicle till after 12pm. I clarified with the advisor that he wasn't getting it done by noon, but merely not starting till after 12pm. He confirmed. I told him that was unacceptable. Another advisor piped in stating he had checked in 9 cars already this morning. I told them that was not what I was told when scheduling and defeats the purpose of scheduling an appointment for a certain time of day. Highly disappointed. read more

Leaving a daughter at college is enough stress without having to have her call with car issues when I'm 300 miles away. All I can say is, after 4 years, All Star Auto has been so kind in making sure she has transportation to work or school whenever there is a need for an oil change or something more involved. I brought my car in due to the check engine light coming on and ABS and Brake lights coming on in the dash panel. I brought my car in at 10:30am. I was able to watch until approximately 1:00pm and they hadn't done anything but ran a diagnostic read on it and did other very easy and quick things that I did not ask them to do. however when it came down to my car I didn't know correct pricing or anything. I elected to only have the wheel hub assembly replaced - in the end cost me $1,124 after a "discount." a different place quoted me $250 after when I took my car in for a second opinion in the $2000+ job they had quoted me for the check engine light issue (code was that switch was stuck in low mode.) come to find out the issue was only that the incorrect oil filter was installed, which bothered me but not related to this. $116 was all it took to get that check engine light off. they also warned me there was a crack in the oil base, which all-star didn't tell me, nor did they tell me about the incorrect oil filter type being installed. so all that fancy diagnostics and they couldn't even tell me what the REAL problem was. they even had pictures of every other little thing that I didn't need but no pictures when it came to the check engine light because they were wanting to charge me a separate diagnostic charge for that. which I'm pretty sure they charged me without saying so. ultimately what they did didn't match what they said they did on paper because although the ABS lights were off, my second opinion place let me know that either they did a horrible job or didn't do the job at all with the wheel hub assembly as there were metal shavings in the toner ring and it was cracked. they kept my vehicle until 5:30pm and basically did nothing with it. they were allegedly going to replace the front two ABS sensors and do a wheel alignment as well, but they didn't do either of those things either. major scam. I don't feel comfortable trying to get them to honor their "warranty" as I'm sure that's riddled with some nonsense that will charge me extra as well. over 4x what it should have cost me to get the job done right, and the oil base replacement at second opinion place cost less than 25% of what all-star was going to charge me for the same job. all of this mixed with them trying to paralyze me with the fear that if I didn't get fixed everything they included that my car would fail upon driving it out the lot: in fact I bet they are the ones whom caused the hairline crack in the oil base by overtightening the filter because they saw it was the wrong one - but I cant prove that. TAKE YOUR VEHICLE LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE. read more

Never ever bring your car here. They charge more then a dealer and operate shady business practices. I've never been charged 5 hours at $140 a hour to diagnose my problem which was diagnosed in under 2 hours. Then charged additional 1600 for basic repair. This was the second time I've taken a vehicle head and each time I've been screwed and taken advantage. People work to hard for their money and in my opinion the owner Devon is a coward who won't even take the time to talk to his own customers that's my opinion. When I said I was going to write a vm review and give my experiences. I was told they didn't like to be extorted???? It's my right ad an American to give my opinion on my service. With All-Star you need to book a few days in advance. They are usually booked up. Not a surprise as they take care of the customer. They always do what I ask them to do. And when they check your auto they'll tell you what needs immediate attention, what can wait a bit, and what to watch. They are always friendly and are reasonably priced. They will call you up and discuss all options. The work is done as fast as possible. And they'll give you a ride if needed! read more

This place is amazing! Outstanding costumer service & the manager really takes care of his employees and costumers. We just moved here from out of state & I needed some work done to my car and also a state inspection and let me just say WOW! This place blew me away with their wonderful service. They even provided a shuttle to take me to my home and also pick me up while they worked on my car (all done in the same day.) The prices I admit were a little higher compared to what I payed in the pst at other places but I'm willing to pay a little more for great service and that's just what you get here. They text messaged me in detail and even provided me with pictures on the work they did, what my car needed and what they suggested should be done after so many miles. They didn't do any work on my car without my approval first. I'm no mechanic and I'm not very educated on vehicles and the maintenance but they explained everything to where I understood and they also keep everything in their system for the future and when I come back, they will know exactly what is going on with my car. I have lived in 5 different states and I have never had great/detailed service like I received here! I have been screwed over by past automotive places before which caused me to be very selective and hesitant with where I take my vehicles but I trust this place 100% and my family and I will be returning for sure! Went there for straightforward required warranty service. They offered service items that I was told twice were required at the mileage my Toyota had. When I checked the Toyota required items, over $1,000 of the work they did was not required for the warranty. I only authorized the additional work based on their representing it was required to preserve the warranty. They are geared to up-selling service items and, at least in my case, misrepresent to a customer in order to sell services not required. Know your warranty before dealing with these folks. read more

While in town briefly for an event, I called All-Star on a recommendation, and they were able to work us in and fix several failing parts on our old SUV. Made an appointment for 8am. They finally finished working on my car at 2pm. It took them six hours to change two tires and do an alignment. They didn't even get my car in the garage until I'd already been there 3 hours, at which point I called a friend for a ride so I could wait at home instead. If I make an appointment for 8am, I expect to be serviced at 8am. Is that unreasonable? The staff was friendly enough and they offer a shuttle service so you're not stranded there, but took FAR too long to complete a very routine job. I'd hate to come to this place with anything actually complicated. read more

I read all the great reviews about this place, so I gave it a shot. I had a pretty bad oil leak and they got me in right away and sent an email with a link to their findings. Very high tech with pictures of every single thing that was wrong with my entire car as well as a slew of recommended testing. I then received a call with the gentleman stating that they could see that the oil was leaking from an area that was behind another part that need to be removed for visual confirmation. They wanted to get permission because this part of the diagnostic would be over $300. I replied that that would be fine as long as that amount was credited when the work was done. We went back and forth on this and finally, after talking to his manager agreed, to credit half of it back. I agreed to that. They found that the leak was from a crack in the upper oil pan and would be $2200 to fix. I declined and ended up paying $175 for this diagnosis. I got quotes from three other shops, each below $1000. So, you do the math! If you don't mind spending over double what competitor's charge, then this is the place for you. I'm sure their work is top notch! It better be, right!? Needless to say, like most people, I can't afford to pay double, so I'll be going elsewhere in the future. This company has a very nice building with a well manicured lawn and has very high-tech diagnosis and delivery method. I think I know why! LOL read more

After conducting a diagnostic on my vehicle, they conferred with the local Cadillac dealer and advised me that the necessary repair would likely be covered under warranty at the dealer, which it was. They easily could have made the necessary repair and I would have been none the wiser. I'm a big fan of All-Star Automotive. They are honest, efficient and personable. Took my car to them, told them exactly what two things would not pass inspection...Twice I told them! Specifically! One they fixed and charged me WELL for it. The other they told me TWICE that there was no problem there. Drove car back home to go back to the shop that I had inspect the car originally. They OF COURSE would not pass it. And I could not renew my license plates!! I had to take it to another muffler shop, as I did not want to drive alllllll the way back to Columbia. Had to pay another chunk of money to get them to fix what I told them to check in the first place AND tighten the loose bolts on the repair that All-Star DID charge me for! AAAAAAnnnd! I couldn't get my plates renewed in time..and had to take time off work to complete this. I called All-Star to thank them for what they did, they repeatedly apologized for "missing" it. ...."You didn't miss it! I told you TWICE exactly what needed repaired!" Second muffler shop lifted car and pointed right at it! You couldn't miss it! DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE. They are nice and courteous...but are NOT competent in their service. read more

All-Star Automotive was one of two choices available when selecting a destination from AAA. I chose them based on the facts that the shop is a family business, open on Saturdays, and the employees seem to try hard to respond to customer complaints on Google reviews. I have nothing but gratitude for the customer service and mechanical work the shop performed on my ancient, undriveable car. I was able to drop my car off when the shop was closed and leave the key. I only had two phone calls with them: to explain the problem and find out that the car was ready a few hours later. The bill was in the range I expected, and everyone I interacted with was courteous and kind. If we had this kind of shop in my home town, I would go there often. read more

I was so pleased to have someone who actually did not try to rip me off in this town. My second vehicle was a minor repair and was done quickly for very little money anddddd they washed all my windows! I couldn't believe the customer service. First the positives: very nice people, prompt service. I'd like to give them a good review but I can't. I took my Honda pilot in due to a loud whining noise that started happening and I was two blocks away from this auto shop. I did look up reviews first and they seemed good. I didn't feel like I could drive it any further. I parked my Honda in their parking lot. I was afraid it was going to damage my vehicle. I went in the next morning and explained what was happening. We did not listen to the noise together though. I assumed it would still be happening but it was possibly an intermittent noise. This was my error. I received a call later in the day telling me that my power steering pump was bad and needed replaced. I told them to go ahead and replace it and they did. I spent $638 and some change. I picked my Honda up and it sounded fine then. A day or two later it started making the noise again. I called the shop and he said to bring it by and he was going to let the main mechanic listen to it. When I got off work and took it up there it wasn't making the noise. We did drive around and talked about it and he said to bring it back immediately while it was happening. The noise would always occur in the evening time when they were closed. A few weeks later while I was off work during the day it was making the noise during the day. I did take it to my regular shop that I go to and had them listen to the noise first they said it sounded like the vibration was coming from the power steering pump. I took my vehicle over to All Star and explained what my place had told me. The main mechanic got his Stethoscope out and listen to the noise seeming to do it thoroughly, and he said I really don't think it's the power steering pump I think the noise is coming from the alternator. I was given an estimate for the alternator. I've then drove my car over to the Honda dealership and pay them $67 to look at my Honda. I spent about an hour there. I explained what has been occurring and what All Star had fixed.. After some time the service manager came back and told me that it was not the alternator that it was indeed the power steering pump. I said are you sure it's not the alternator? He said no it's a power steering pump. I took the Honda back over to All Star Auto automotive and explained what Honda had said.. The main mechanic said he really didn't think it was the power steering pump but they would replace it for free. I left my vehicle there and got a call a few hours later telling me that they had replaced the power steering pump but the noise was still happening and that they unhooked the alternator and the noise had stopped. I picked my vehicle up and from then on the noise was no longer intermittent it was constant and for the first time the power source light came on and stayed on. I stopped driving my Honda at that point and parked it in my driveway. Maybe I'm being naïve and just wrong but I feel like that they should have replace my alternator for free since they were wrong about the noise coming from my power steering pump and I had spent a lot of money on the power steering pump. I ask my normal car shop and The Honda dealership if that would have happened and they got it wrong would they have then been honorable and replace the correct thing without charge and they both said yes- but they also said that some car shops don't. I had a neighbor tell me that the law is on their side. He said it's like going to the doctor for some symptoms and they treat your symptoms but it didn't work they still charge you for that and then they go on and run other tests and also charge you for that as well. I realize that someone can't always be correct and sometimes things don't get fixed properly but I feel like that it should've been been taken care of to resolve my problem that was still occurring without charge. I don't think they are shady people and did anything dishonest on purpose, but I do feel like they should either return my money or replace the alternator for free if that's what the problem is. read more

They were able to fix several of them that day, and offered to get my new tires in by the next week (three days later). This is another ripoff repair shop. BUYER BEWARE! Once you decide to leave your car with them to check it out, they hook by telling you that they will have to charge you a diagnostic fee to check it further. Kendra will tell you that the fee will be offset against any future charges. Don't believe her! So now you are without a car and have invested $100 for a diagnostic fee. What are you going to do? You don't have the time to take it someplace else and you have already paid $100, so you tell them to fix the car. The repair bill that I got was for $350. I checked other repair shops and they would have charged approximately $125 - $150 for the same service. Kendra also lied to me. I told her to use a cheaper part. When I got the bill they used the more expensive part. I asked her why and she told me that they tried to use the cheaper part and it did not work, so they used the more expensive part. I would stay away from this repair shop. read more

When I first moved to Columbia, I was worried I wouldn't find an auto repair shop that I trusted, like the one I have at home. I first went to All Star Automotive when I received a coupon in the mail. I haven't gone anywhere ever since. I have had several oil changes with them and had problems with my taillights at one point and the owner stayed late to try to figure out what was wrong with them. They are a great local business! I was traveling West from St. Louis and broke an axel pulling off in the middle of an on-ramp. AAA towed my car to All-Star and they got us in right before closing time. Had to make it to Kansas City that night with a rental and needed to head back east for another show the next night. They kept me posted over the phone with the news that the rear axel was broken and told me about a few other things they noticed but didn't try to sell me on anything. I opted for just the axel to be replaced and for the transmission fluid to be changed since we were in a hurry. They had the car ready to go in less than 24 hours, plus everyone there was very nice and they were very understanding, considering how stressed out I was about getting where I needed to be on time. I highly recommend their business, especially to travelers. I feel if the car had to break down, I was very lucky to have broken down here. read more

I have taken my autos to Allstar for several years and have always had excellent service from them. On many occasions they have made time for me when their schedule was full. They have noticed problems that I didn't even know I had! They also alert me to items that might become problems down the road so I can choose when to address them. They always give a full explanation of the work needed, even to the point of giving a mini lesson on what the part is and what purpose it serves and why it needs repair. You might be able to find a cheaper repair shop, but you will not find better service. read more

They must be out of their minds!! I took my truck in for an estimate on some minor work to be done and they gave me a long printout of services and parts and labor hours that came to over $1500!!! Now you must understand that my vehicle had already passed inspection not long before i did this. The estimate they gave me was nonsensical to any layman which i had never gotten such a confusing gibberish ridden document from any shop anywhere in my life..I'm 40! I immediately said NO WAY!!! I then went to my regular shop who did a quick easy and coherent repair for $350. And guess what...my truck runs perfect! I know there are a couple of good mechanics there but the ownership and office staff need a huge wake up call! No wonder their shop is empty more often than not! Columbia is a very competitive town and there lots of great places to go for repairs and maintenance. Sadly this sure as hell aint one of them! They will always look for a sucker...so avoid them if you can! read more

Excellent & Brian went above and beyond! I was on a vacation road trip from Phoenix thru Missouri to Wisconsin when the driver's side ball joint sheared right off my 15 year old truck right outside Fulton, MO -- very frightening after having the truck completely checked out & serviced before I hit the road. Of course it was right before closing time Saturday after July 4th. I'm grateful to AAA for recommending & towing my truck to All-Star Auto! Since my truck wouldn't arrive until after closing, the lady I spoke with on the phone assured me that my truck would be safe until the shop opened on Monday. Brian called right away Monday morning to discuss the repair & to quickly get me back on the road. After I explained the sentimental value of my truck & my safety concerns with driving such a long way, Brian assured me he would repair the ball joint, inspect my truck thoroughly & take care of it as if it was his own :) WOW -- he completely lived up to his word! When I arrived to pick up my truck, Brian showed me the broken part so I could take it back to my mechanic in Phoenix and he was so very kind! He assured me my truck was safe to drive & I was back on the road. I've completed my road trip & returned home to Phoenix without any more mechanical trouble. My son told me I got a great price on the repair -- great price, Exceptional service, kindness & understanding to a stranger travelling America! I have recommended Brian & All-Star Auto to all my friends in Missouri and have told everyone I know about my outstanding experience!!
