We're from Las Vegas and spend most of the summer here at Big Bear Lake. I was having some dental work done with my regular dentist in Las Vegas, follow up in September. While here I developed a very painful oral issue and feared having to take a day and drive all the way back to Las Vegas and have my dentist address it. I called the office, they understood, worked me in right away and Joel did an incredible job with my care. It is the day after, I am pain free, I did not have to make a trip to Las Vegas!! I can't thank you enough for working with me, taking care of my issue, and saving me a whole day's time traveling. I like Joel and he is a great dentist for me. What happened to my wife really ticked me off. She had an appointment, but wasn't feeling well. She called Joel's office the day before her appointment. She was told she needed to keep her appointment or she will be charged $60.00. We did not go to her appointment. I took her to the ER and found out she had Covid. I contacted the dentist office and was told the staff wears masks. We have not returned to this dentist. read more

Dr Bickler has been my new dentist after recovering serious mental trauma from awful previous dentists that had horrible "bed side manner" he is sweet, his staff is comforting, the office is serene & calming. My 23 year old daughter has unpleasant memories of the dentist. So finding one that meets her needs can be difficult. After looking at reviews on Yelp I decided to give Dr Bickler a try. The office is clean and comfortable,the staff was friendly and welcoming. But what really impressed me was Dr Bickler's sensitive treatment of my daughter. He took the time to explain everything he needed to do. He made sure she was well anesthetized and did it without causing any fear or discomfort. My daughter wound up having to have a LOT of work done, but it was necessary. At the end of it, my daughter was very happy that she saw Dr Bickler and so was I. I've since seen him myself for my dental needs and continue to be very happy that he is my dentist. read more

I found Dr Bickler just by chance. I had gone to a local dentist that referred me down the hill for an extraction after stating that there were no oral surgeons here in Big Bear. I was in alot of pain on my way home when I passed Dr Bicklers office and stopped in. I was immediately ushered into the exam room and 2 xrays were taken. An appointment was made for an extraction but because it was so infected I was on antibiotics for one week prior. On my surgery day, I was so nervous. I swear....I experienced NO pain at all. Last week I was on vacation in Big Bear and began feeling a persistent toothache that got progressively worse over a few days. Late on Friday afternoon, my wife called a few other dentists, but no one would see me. I was advised to try to find a walk-in clinic near the Convention Center, so I drove over there in a semi-hallucinatory state as the pain reached its peak. I couldn't find the clinic (which I realized later was like 2 doors down) but I walked into Dr. Bickler's office (without an appointment) to find him alone, doing paperwork. At 4:30 on a Friday with no support staff, he obviously was looking forward to getting out of there and going home for the weekend. But he could see that I was in pain and he agreed to see me. Over the course of the next 3 hours, Dr. Bickler identified that I had a major infection and performed 2 difficult emergency root canals. I cannot tell you how thankful I was that he helped me. He was patient, thorough, sensitive and in retrospect I can't believe how lucky I was. If I lived in Big Bear, he would be my family dentist, no doubt. It sounds crazy, but if I have any non-pressing dental work to be done I could see putting it off until my next trip to Big Bear! read more

My family is in Big Bear on vacation and my mom's tooth really started bothering her. I looked on Yelp for a dentist and found Dr. Bickler with the best reviews. I called his office and they answered the phone before business hours and said we could come anytime before 12:30. My mom came and really felt comfortable with Dr. Bickler. He was friendly, personal, gentle, knowledgable, and very professional. It ended up being a root canal and he worked through his lunch hour. I give him an extra star( total of 6) because they informed me about the issues and solutions rather than getting greedy for money. In detail.... I have been coming to Dr Bickler's office for about three years. I live in Los Angeles and can go to any dentist closer yet choose to go to Big Bear which is about a 2 1/2 hour drive because Dr. Bickler has lots of experience and makes me feel confident and comfortable when he works on me. I have no worries when I am sitting in his chair. He works so gently and I do not feel his shots. His staff is so nice. They are friendly and they make me smile. Went to Dr. Joel J. Bickler to remove my wisdom tooth which was 'horizontal'. I worried that this could be a difficult removal with extra cuts and extra costs. I searched for Big Bear Lake dentists on Google and Yelp. I chose Dr. Bickler because he is a Doctor of Dental Surgeries, hence he has the widest experience and practice. When I saw his photo I had no doubt that he was an honest, great person, and I was right! My tooth didn't seem to be a difficult case for the doctor at all. He removed it carefully, with a couple of tools, no cuts, no pain. The whole removal took about a minute. I didn't even have to take any painkillers after, it didn't hurt much and was healing well. Dr. Bickler has a great sense of humor, which helps when you are a bit stressed. His assistant Airian was professional and nice. I have to mention that all of the staff in the clinic are very pleasant caring people. Later on I went to Dr. Bickler's web site and read that he attained a rank of a Captain when served in the United States Air Force Dental Corps and he actually is a general aviation pilot as well. Recently on my first day of vacation in Big Bear, I had a major problem with an upper bridge. I called three dentist, none could or would see me until later in the week. I got lucky on my last call and found Dr. Bickler, explained my problem. He rearrange his schedule and saw me right away. My problem was more than a quick fix. He worked on my bridge for 1 1/2 hrs, could not finish. Had me come back at 4:30 in the afternoon, did a root canal, and repairing my bridge. He and his assistant worked with me until 8:30 that evening. AND, I felt no pain at all. You would think that I was one of his long time patients vs someone just in town for a few days. I was desperate for a solution to my problem. Dr, Bickler was just unbelievable,I never had more attention and such excellent service. He saved our vacation. I don't have dental insurance, thus expecting a large bill for his service and working until 8:30 p.m. When I got back home, I visited my regular dentist for a check of my bridge, he reported it was excellent work. I ask my dentist what the approximate charge would be for what Dr. Bickler did..IT WAS ALMOST 3 TIMES DR. BICKLER'S CHARGE. i can highly recommend Dr. Bickler in Big Bear for excellent service, quality work, and I still can't believe the cost. Thank Dr. Bickler and his staff for saving our vacation. Dr. Bickler and his staff are top notch! My husband and I recently moved to Big Bear and finding the right dentist and staff was important to us It also takes a lot of research. Our research paid off! Everyone in the office makes you feel at home and at ease! They set both myself and my husband up on a dental plan and each detail was explained. I had my first appointment for a periodontal cleaning after the initial consultation. Laura, the hygienist, was excellent! She was very attentive to make sure that I was comfortable and we had a great conversation! My teeth have never looked so great! My husband goes for his first appointment in about a week and I know he will get the same excellent treatment! We were nervous about finding a new dentist, but there are no more worries! The absolute best dental experience I have ever had ! Dr. Bickler and his entire staff are kind, courteous, professional, efficient and very gentle ! Dr. Bickler takes his time to thoroughly explain your treatment options and create a plan that is best for you. He makes sure your experience is painless and comfortable starting with the numbing process. He first starts with a numbing gel and once that takes effect he massages your gum area while injecting the anesthetic and I have never even felt the needle! I have had five lengthy appointments so far and couldn't be happier with his treatment. I have/had several old silver filings which expanded and caused cracks and decay as well as an abscess under an old crown which had to be extracted. I had not been to a dentist in over five years due to a couple very bad experiences. I highly recommend Dr. Bickler !!! read more
