That being said, he's been at it for years, he's very competent. They are also very fair with billing. You can discuss up front about pricing and they will put off an x ray or whatever if they think you can get away with it. I have gone the last couple of years without dental insurance and they have been very helpful with how to best manage what I can afford to do. I also take my kids to him and though he is not a pediatric dentist he is great with the kids. My kids cut up with him and giggle the whole visit which is huge. I was paying once and looked around to my horror to find my 4 year old daughter slapping him with one of those rubber feet things(that they gave her)while he was examining another patient. Without even looking up, he took that little spray hose and doused her good. I couldn't have handled it better myself and she of course was delighted as was the patient.

I only had a very small chip in one, but both had worn enamel on the backsides from teeth grinding. Dr. Wickness simply recommended bonding to strengthen the teeth and repair the chipped one. He also talked about my bite and how it impacts tooth health, grinding, etc. The first dentist never even mentioned that was a consideration. A few days later, my new dentist, Dr. Wickness performed the work recommended and my teeth look great now and feel strong. I definitely wanted to keep my existing teeth and Dr. Wickness helped me accomplish that. it's never fun spending a lot of money at the dentist office and I do my best to take care of my teeth, but at some point, you have to find an honest, reputable dentist and trust them. In my experience, they will offer a lowball proposal to get you to have the work done then send you a large bill weeks afterward. I had an exam then, while still sitting in the dental chair, was presented with a plan for dental work along with what each part would cost, how much insurance would pay, and how much I would be responsible for paying. After the work was done I paid the agreed amount. A month later I received a bill for 150% more than amount I had already paid. This is clearly price gouging, and there are laws against this in other industries such as auto repair. I called to inquire about the discrepancy. The girl blamed it on insurance. I have had the same insurance for 10 years and never had this problem. To her credit, she made her snooty little rude condescending comments with a nice very fake chipper tone. She said she "can't estimate a bill down to the dollar." As smart as she thinks she is, it sure seems like she could get within $300 though. I was quoted $250 out of pocket for the dental work. Altogether I was billed $675. I recommend finding a dentist who will give you a straight answer and bill you fairly.
