Brought a lamp here to be rewired and polished with some other instructions. The person behind the counter wrote nothing down but quoted us 400 dollars. They said the lamp would be done in a week and a half. Week and a half goes by, and the lamp has not moved from where they originally placed it. They ask for more time. Two weeks go by, still not done, and they tell us the lamp will be done in three days. Three days go by and the lamp still has not been worked on. They then struggle to provide a refund of 400 dollars. Would not trust them with anything. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

Don't, just don't. I brought my lamp in because the switch didn't seem to be working. I wanted his expert opinion on whether the switch was broken and whether it had been wired to the wall correctly. He said it would take 3 weeks and it would be $82, which seemed a bit much, but I needed this lamp, so I said go for it. Three weeks later I hadn't heard so I called. You cannot leave a message, and he didn't answer the phone for hours even though he was open. I went and got the lamp. Went to Seattle Lighting. I brought in 5 vintage lamps to be repaired on a Wednesday for my friend who is unable to walk. The owner,Joel quoted me an outrageous price but I accepted it because I didn't want to run around. Joel said he would call me when they were finished. As the job was just to put in a new electrical plug I would assume this would take no longer than 2 weeks. I called two days later when my friend came back into town and she was very concerned with the price. Joel said it has already been started. Then another week went by and I called to see when they would be finished and he said, they are all booked out and would take 4 weeks until they were finished. I asked how it could be 4 weeks when it is a simple change and and I would not have had them fixed there had I known it would take 4 weeks. He rudely told me that he always tells his customers this and and said I'll call you when they are finished and hung up on me! I had 3 lamps that needed their sockets replaced due to moving across the country. I took them in & was told they'd call me when they were done. Two weeks later, no call. When I called to check status, I was told they weren't done yet & that they'd call me. Two more weeks pass, I finally get a call saying they were done. When I picked them up, one of the lamps was still wonky so they fixed it while I waited. New sockets for 2 floor lamps and 1 table lamp with a 4 week wait - $191. Where I used to live (in FL), this type of thing would have cost more than half what I paid to Harold's and it would have been done in half the time. If I patronize Harold's again, it will probably be to have a lamp made, as this seems to be their forte, judging by the prices charged. For basic repair, better to find someone else. Two stars for lackadaisical service and overcharging. If they hadn't fixed the wonky socket while I waited, i would have given one star. read more

I found Joel to be a man of few words who knows what he's doing. I'd all but given up on my lamp but was unable to find a replacement set. I am very happy to learn of Harold's lighting store in both Bellevue and in Seattle. The designer we work with recommended them when I asked her where I could get lamp shades made or to match our existing shades. We also had to get new shades for several lamps, so it was a great find and we were able to solve all of our lighting issues! We were so happy to learn that they make their own shades, the quality is excellent and they do custom work. We bought 13 new lamps shades (several were custom made) and they all look fantastic! They were quick and each time our order was ready, they called us right away. I had one lamp repaired and it took less than a week (which was less time than he had originally estimated). I took delivery on a light fixture made in the UK, so before I had an electrician come out I wanted to put power to it to insure it was wired for the US correctly. I was referred to Joel by a Bellevue lighting store. I called and he said he was able to accommodate me and right away. Jumped in the car and went straight there. Zero customer service. I can't believe that I had to do the follow-up on this. I'm sure nothing would be done by now if I hadn't stepped in. 1-2 weeks quote for repair. More like 3-1/2. These days it would be nice to ask that something be done, pay for it, and have the work done as promised. An update for progress at the minimum would be appreciated. Extremely unhappy with promised lamp repair that was not complete. Brought lamp in for structural and base repair. Nearly two months later picked lamp up only to find the base was still in need of repair. Owner said that repairs to the base would cost EXTRA and that the price quoted was only for the structural portion. Told him that there was no mention of an extra cost for the base repair up front and that we expected that this would be included in the original quote. We paid for this service in advance and was told by the owner that the lamp would be returned "good as new" which obviously did not occur. Called him twice on this and he would not agree to complete the work without additional payment and did not offer any refund or compromise. Both my wife and I were there when we originally discussed this work with him and no mention was made regarding additional money for the base repair. Extremely unhappy. read more

I just swung by on Memorial Day Saturday and was quite impressed. I had a lamp that needed a small repair. It took him less than 1 minute to find the replacement part and when I went to pay him he said it was on the house. I had a pendent light fixture painted at Harold's to go with my decor and arranged for Joel Hanson their installer to come to my home to hang in a stairwell on a high ceiling. It required some careful balance work to place and he did this competently We had agreed on a price to do this earlier (I wrote it down since he gave me no receipt) so I was shocked when he verbally told me what he was charging me after hanging. I paid him because he was in a rush and I couldn't find the receipt quickly. Later I found the proof and both called and emailed him about the overcharge. It was $70 which is a lot of money to me. He denied that he had overcharged me and refused to refund my money. I would NOT deal with this guy again. He is not trustworthy read more

My wife went to Harold's with an old lamp and asked for an estimate for a repair prior to having any work done. Unfortunately, they decided they would ignore that request and fix it for $120 without her permission. She paid it but wants to make sure you don't find yourself in the same situation. I LOVE Harold's. They carry European bulbs for my various European lamps and have twice now repaired lamps while I waited, the last time without charge. I am thrilled to see they are now 'making to order' extension cords in various types/styles of cords in not only gold and silver but also numerous fabric cords to match your lamp's existing cord. Sorry that this isn't a complimentary review, but it's what happened to me. A few weeks ago I took my chandelier to Harold's in Bellevue for repair. It was without all the glass/crystals as I had removed them. Before I went there, I called the shop to see if there would be a repair person when I would come. "He" said yes. I went there with the fixture. This is a very simple one, as it accommodates only 3 lightbulbs. In the shop I asked the person behind the counter if she was a repair person. Yes. She said it would be 3-4 weeks. When asked if it would be repaired on site she said no. Ballpark figure : $350. Could be more or less, when I had asked. It was my mistake not to ask WHEN I could get an estimate. They do not do this on site. Lack of communication on both sides. Absolutely. So I went to Hansen's on Lake City Way. On site repair. before I got back to Kirkland, I had an estimate from them. Less than $60. One week later it was ready for $60.22. read more
