My ceiling light fixture made a fizzle sound then died. Well, that's what I thought happened. I looked up electricians on Yelp and found Alex at A and A Electric. He came out the next days bringing with him a replacement fixture if I needed it. My problem wasn't as big as I thought but Alex explained my problem to me, replaced my fixture and taught me a lot about what light bulbs are good and what light bulbs I should just throw away. Alex came out promptly on a weekend to help me troubleshoot a vexing and alarming emergency. He listened and explained carefully. He first advised by email to call City Light and have them check the outside connections -- I NEVER would have thought to do this; I'd assumed it was an inside problem. City Light arrived within an hour, found some rodent damage, and replaced my service wiring -- for free -- and that may have solved the problem. Alex came later and made a thorough check. I hired A&A to replace the knob and tube wiring in my recently purchased home. Overall the company did a good job and I would (and did) hire them for another project. That being said, I noticed a lack of detail from the company in a few respects. This included: - Turning and accidentally leaving my furnace off without notice on multiple occasions. This also happened with my refrigerator and all the frozen items started to thaw. They simply did not turn the breakers back on when they were done at the end of the day. - Turning off my garage door and leaving it open and unlocked for the night. - Leaving sharp metal objects including screws, nails and electrical components out in the street out front (where their van was parked) - Not properly measuring before installing my recessed lights leading to lights that weren't even in line with each other (out of line by up to two inches!). It was pretty obvious very little measuring took place before those holes were drilled. This resulted in many unnecessary holes being made in the ceiling. read more

We had several small items that needed to be addressed in our 1908 house which added up to about a day and a half of work. Alex is the consummate professional. He knows what he's doing, he explains what is necessary and why, and he doesn't get rattled. He and the crew moved an outside junction box to inside the basement, a job requiring drilling for several hours through concrete and stone, rewired the box, installed new hard-wired LED shop lights in our office, did troubleshooting on outdoor outlets, and installed LED motion lights on the garage. The work is very nice, up to code, and guaranteed for a year, but I doubt if we will need to tap into the warranty. We are hiring A&A to rewire our main floor in the next couple of weeks. I wanted to switch out the track lighting in the kitchen from halogen to LED, but upon examination of the old knob & tube wiring, it was determined that it was too far gone to support a new fixture. The halogen had literally burned up the wiring with that intense heat. So now we have another project. It may be a disappointment that we have to pay for yet another electrical project, but at least we will have an electrician performing that we know and trust performing the work. read more
