Haven't had a dish here I haven't liked. Chicken Asada burrito is better than any I've had in Seattle. Comparable to California burritos that I occassionally dream about... and then wake up with a drooly pillow. The fish taco is DELICIOUS. Chicken Asada taco gets the job done, but would roll with the other options first. Have only eaten take-out, so can't comment on the in-restaurant service. Delivery is prompt. read more

This place is awesome for a quick Mexican dish. The only frustrating part is the hours of operation, but that's only because the food is so good that when you want Joel's and you cant get it, everything else is a let down. Great spot to walk or bike downtown to, grab a bite and then check out town. They also finally take cards, such a huge upgrade. read more

Fantastic Mexican food at a very reasonable price. My wife had the beer and chicken tacos - they were quite good and the shells were amazing. I had he chipotle chicken fajita burrito, and it was the best of the whole order. We liked it so much I came back for breakfast the next morning. I'm going to make it part of every Schweitzer trip. I've been going to Joel's for years, spending hundreds of dollars on each and every vacation in Sandpoint. Recently I ordered a burrito bowl - which is a standard in places like Chipotle's - and received a pile of wet meat in a Styrofoam container. When I returned it, they told me they'd have to charge me a second time to correct it. Customer service has clearly plummeted, and the staff seems arrogant. Wow! This place really impressed me, being from Cali I've gotten to taste some of the best Mexican food around and Joel's did not disappoint! I had a burrito and my husband asked them to make it spicy for me..boy oh boy was it spicy! That's how I know these guys are legit haha ;) My mouth was on fire which is a good thing considering I like my food like that. Everything in the burrito was authentic from the salsa to the meat down to the beans, yet it still had a Baja Cali vibe to it all. We will definitely come back for more..in fact it just gives us an excuse to head into Sandpoint! One suggestion I have is I wish they were open all day and on weekends, that would make me give it 5 estrellas :) read more

One of our culinary pilgrimage spots. When we are in Sandpoint, we have to visit Joel's. I have never had anything from the truly vast menu which I didn't love. We usually order the chicken flautas for lunch, and then assemble a massive pile of burritos to take home with us. Joel the Younger shares his preferred "reheat the next day" suggestions. Great service; even if we just get in there once a year, they remember us and know the drill. Seating has gotten a lot better in the last couple of years; it used to a horror about 10 years ago, and we usually just ate our meal in the car. Now it isn't nearly as bad. It is still probably a good idea not to show up at the noon hour, as the locals besiege the place. If this place ever closes, we will be indescribably sad. I can't imagine a trip to Sandpoint without eating at Joel's. read more

Joel's provides the best breakfast burritos I've eaten, and that's after living in San Antonio for 5 yrs. the Rebecca remains my favorite. There is a wide variety of tacos and burritos. I have enjoyed all of them. However, patrons need to know that you don't go to Joel's for the sit down ambience (80% outdoor) or service (line up, order, wait). Only open for lunch and breakfast, and closed Sunday's. That's fortunate for the other eating establishments in town. Go hungry. Leave full. Spicy means NW spicy. Be prepared to wait up to 20 min when they are busy, but use call ahead if you're rushed. Only criticisms are mediocre coffee and no refills on soda. read more

Actually 1.5 Stars. We heard a lot about the amazing food a Joel's. We just never found it. If this is the best Mex Food in SP then the food culture here is 20 years behind. The portions are large but bland and uninspired in taste. It's basic Mexican food without any creative thought. If you are looking for the highest calorie to dollar ratio and if you prioritize volume over quality and taste this is your place. Best chili verde I've had in my life including home made. My husband had the breakfast burrito and loved it also. Definitely worth the hour ride to come up. Tacos were definitely not the best I've had. I tried the carne asada which was more like ground beef. The "red sauce" was basically tomato sauce. The guacamole was a nice touch, but it seemed like only smashed avocado. The wait definitely was not worth it. read more
