I have been going to Joe's Auto Electric II since the year 2017. I had never been to a privately owned mechanic shop before. I had always gone to the big dealership. I heard very good things about Joe's Auto Electric and decided to try them by having them service my electric window on driver side. They fixed it at a very reasonable price. From there I began to bring my car for oil changes and general maintenance and repairs. I own a 2004 Toyota Camry with 240,000 miles. Joe's Auto Electric has now been servicing this car for the past 7 years. Whether it is a basic oil change, replacing brakes and rotors, tune-ups, power steering issues, etc., they can do it all. You really get personalized attention from the owner, John, to the Service Manager Steve Baltas, to the Admin Assistant/front desk - Melissa, they are all very friendly, very courteous and very respectful. I can always count on their HONESTY!! I now bring 4 vehicles to Joe's Auto Electric to be serviced. When it comes to a CLEAN OIL CHANGE, no one is better than Joe's Auto Electric. When you get your car back after they have changed the oil, there is NO DRIPPING of OLD OIL that was drained which most places this is a problem. These folks wipe down EVERYTHING after they change the oil so there are no oil drips onto your driveway or garage floor. The mechanics/service technicians are very experienced and knowledgeable. They know their cars and they know how to repair them very well. I took my car there to find a electrical short and all they did was move some wires around and make long comments on my bill, saying how they organized the wires and cleaned the wires and my generator gauge is still showing discharging even though they told me the battery and generator was working properly You would think for charging me $400 for a couple hours work that the gauge would be working properly like they said they took everything all apart. Also they are smokers had to completely smoke and sanitize the interior of my car because it smelled like cigarettes in my car, what a nightmare. read more

Wonderful Experience, Thank you Joe's! Our 2015 Sienna's water pump failed on our drive home from vacation in MD to VT. We limped into the parking lot at 4:00am, and met the proprietor Joe at 7:00. The shop doesn't open until 8:00, yet even with a full schedule, they took our van in (before they opened) and fixed it that day. We couldn't have been more impressed with their care, communication, and level of professionalism. They kept us informed at every step of the process, and went out of their way to help us get home. Their techs did top notch work, diagnosing, checking in with us, and replacing relevant parts every step of the way. They even called later in the day to say that some of the parts that we had discussed replacing together did not need to be replaced, saving us money. Did I mention it was over 90 degrees? Best service ever!! I'd been driving without washer fluid, intermittent wipers and back wiper for over a year. Originally I had a Mechanic check fuses, but found nothing. Although unemployed, I booked an appt knowing electrical would be $140/hour. They took me right away and came back in 15 mins and told me it was fixed. It was a fuse after all. Charge? couldn't find a starter for my old outboard motor anywhere. Brought the old one to Joes for rebuild. It took longer for him to get to it than I wanted, but that's what happens when everyone wants their work done by the best around. He fixed it first, and then gave me the option to purchase a new one if I'd prefer. I opted for my rebuild as it was a little cheaper, and probably better than the aftermarket replacements. A couple weeks before Christmas 2016 I had a just-bought Volvo and subsequent problematic starter that needed inspection--- my only real concern was the solenoid seemed to hang up spurratically. I just bought the car and had another primary vehicle,... so i yanked the starter. I was an auto tech and have been working on cars for over twenty years. I'm also a licensed school counselor, and am currently back in school, again, for CNC Manufacturing. With little-to-no free time, I found Joe's II Garage. After dropping off the starter I was called back with a surprising quote for $147. It was just before Christmas-- ouch, so I asked to pick it up and I would return in January or February. They wanted to hold on to it, but I know things can get misplaced. Upon pickup I asked about the price. Although only the brushes and solenoid needed replacing, they had to rebuild the entire starter-- I assume to cover themselves against the sudden failure of other components. At first I was annoyed, because money is very tight. However, it was really no big deal if it would mean getting a high-quality, reliable rebuilt-- as opposed to the box store junk, which never lasts. Anyway, I intended to rebuild the Volvo and drive it til' I die. After Christmas I broke out the starter (still unrepaired) to touch it and other new engine parts up with some black. The starter was sandblasted, and I'm not big into silver. I then noticed something odd: one of the solenoid retaining screws had been drilled out--making it impossible for "the lamen" to remove. Well, I am no idiot and knew right away what it was: sabotage.! Over the years I also got into the habit of photographing in detail anything that required servicing by others, which I did in the parking lot of Joe's. Yes, I don't trust anybody--- and I have damn good reason(s) for it, too. Also, when I picked up the starter I apologized and asked if there was a diagnosis fee. I was told there wasn't. So when I saw the sabotage I was furious. Obviously, it was a means to prevent me from attempting the repair myself. I was told it was all apart, ready to be rebuilt when I stated I didn't have the funds. It was also probably assumed I would try to repair it myself. (Having worked in a BMW garage, we always sent starters and alternators out for rebuilding, because we wanted quality work). I brought the starter to Joe's to ask about my findings, but was told he was not in. I explained my concerns to the receptionist (long, dark hair w/ glasses), regarding the sabotage and destruction of private property, and she made every attempt to dismiss my findings-- I even told her I had before pics. She took my number and said she would forward the concerns. I told her they should charge a diagnosis fee. I never heard back from anyone--- because he/they knew I called him out on "a big no-no." Very unprofessional. I was going to go back and try again to meet with Mr. Sabotage, again, but why bother? I know what he did and didn't want to waste my time. I will NEVER go back there--- and would rather drive 1 hour to Norwich, to get my work done at Jim Wood's Auto Electric-- a true alternator and starter repair shop. Want a hacker, parts replacer to work on your car?? Go to Joe's Garage.... where sabotage is free and lies and deceit are inevitable. Joe's Garage: You Reap What You Sew. Update: The day I left this review I received a desperate voicemail from Joe's Garage (Jon?). Despite stopping in with the alternator one month earlier, and leaving my name and number with the secretary (he was out to the bank)... I never got a call. Funny how social media lights a fire. The individual stated that someone told him about the review, and rambled on about giving me my money back; that they are a quality shop and asked me to return his call, etc. He seemed to not have read my review, because he definitely wasn't even clear about the content of my Yelp review, or the nature of my concern--stating someone else told him about it. Please hold your breathe and wait for my call. I tried to see if I could upload photos for public view, but apparently it's not an option. Freshly drilled out (sabotaged) torx screw (one of three holding starter solenoid on) with no rust whatsoever. Sabotaged because I couldn't afford to have it fixed before Christmas; also because I didn't want to let them hold on to it. They sabotaged it because it was presumed I was using them for a diagnosis, and would repair it myself. Fact: car is still sitting... starter is in the same condition as it was when given to me by Joe's Garage: sabotaged. I already procured another starter. I've had yet another great experience at Joe's Auto Electric II. I needed an alignment on my truck but I was very limited on time, due to needing to drive out of state the next day. I explained my situation to Jon and he said to bring it in and he'd try to squeeze it in. Not only did they get the alignment done despite being busy, but they also found a crack in my radiator and swapped that for me as well. They even kept the shop open a little late to finish my radiator swap to be certain I'd have my truck ready for my early morning trip. Unfortunately, this business is not run the way I remembered it 10+ years ago. I had some strut and alignment work done and found out I was charged nearly double in costs. I called to question the charges and was given the run around saying they did upcharge me but gave me a 15% discount...makes sense right?!! No. It's a ploy. I told the receptionist I couldn't believe Jon would run a business this way and would spread the word. After hanging up on her, she called me back saying he'd (Jon) like to talk to me to work it out, but was currently busy. It's been over a week, no call, no working out. Beware. Call NAPA and price check before agreeing to anything, or better yet, go somewhere more honest. Very disappointing. read more
