When I mover to Tomball I'd go to Joe's barbershop for my haircuts. The haircuts I got were ok, I was in the middle of liking the cut and not liking it so I went elsewhere. After a couple of years away I decided to give Joe's another try since I learned they had new owners. I'm very happy I came back because I got one of the best haircuts I've ever had done by BRANDON! Got my haircut after circling like an Apache, took me a few times to find the entrance. Parking is in back, take the alley. They have the whole navy vet motife going on, I sat there 95% of the time with my eyes closed because I was so tired. He asked me a question about clipper stuff and I told him I had no idea, I just want a haircut. That was about the limit of our conversation. I just moved to TX and was looking for a traditional barber. I searched Yelp and found Joe's. I went in and waited as it is first come, first served. I'm not sure if appointments are taken. It's a small shop with 4 barber chairs and about 8 seats to wait. It's a good atmosphere with music and everyone was chatting. I only waited about 10 minutes and sat for Damien. He asked what I was looking for and then talked a bit about each other. I had a haircut and beard trim and it was definitely a good experience. Next trip I will get a shave as well. Stopped in at the barbershop I used to go to when I moved to Tomball. Joe has retired and there is a new crew of barbers(to me), doing awesome work in the same comfortable setting. Leonardo greeted me when I entered, asking what services I needed. Said he could take care of me and got busy. Leonardo gave me probably the best detailed haircut and beard trim I've yet to enjoy. Very meticulous and offered to attend to needed details he saw as he worked on me. Will return to him when I need a haircut/beard trim again, although it's a 13 mile one way. read more

Needed a haircut in a bad way, and was working down the street. Pull up in my rental car, walk in, even though they were busy I was greeted right away, and told I'm next, and it'll be about 2 minutes. Asked what I wanted "haircut.. Will pass Mil regs because I'm going to meet with some guys from a reserve unit I'm trying to join, and keep some, because I'm getting married next month and don't want to look too motarded" That was all the barber needed. 10 minutes later I was done, with a haircut that met my needs, without me having to explain or be asked about styles. With a straight razor shave too. Not many barbers do that anymore. Place is run by a bunch of older Texan gentlemen, with a younger guy (30ish) who appears to be from a long line of barbers based on his skill. Highly recommend. This is an old school barber shop. Like it should be. You want fancy pants stuff, go elsewhere. That being said, they do have a lady who is a hairstylist for the women that go there, but I went to the barber side. Oh, and the best part? You will be taken care of, and have left a good tip for less than what the "basic haircut" costs at a unisex salon. $12 for a cut, with a razor shave where needed. read more

I've been going to Joe's for about 4 years now. I've had my hair cut/styled by 3 of the barbers at some point or another. They are all legit barbers who can cut any style you throw at them. Clay has been my go-to barber for about 3yrs now. He knows what to with any style and how to cut it to your liking. If you want dapper, he's got ya. If you like the beard trim and fade, he's got ya. After they use the cutthroat method to trim around your face and neck your hair will be on-point and leave looking photo ready. I walked in and was instantly greeted by Luis (shop manager), and was invited to sit in his chair for a cut. I explained what I wanted and showed a picture of how I normally like my hair. Without hesitation Luis said not a problem and went to doing what he does best. Luis went above and beyond cutting my hair and cleaning me up. Staff and even customers are friendly as can be. This is definitely an old school barbershop. Not just because it's been around for awhile as have most of the barbers, but because it's got some old school right-wing racism going on. I just moved to the area and need a cut badly, so wanted to stop in because I'm all about a good barbershop. Once in the chair I was shocked to hear some of the comments made by the barber cutting my hair. My girlfriend who was with me eventually went outside to wait because she was sick of listening to the BS being said. One of the other longtime customers even told him he shouldn't be saying the things he was saying, but he just kept on going. I went to this shop yesterday thinking with old time barbers maybe they could cut my hair without leaving lines. I got in Vic's chair. He is a very nice guy but did a very horrible job on my hair. I'm thinking maybe he needs to stop cutting hair. I had to come home last night and cut all my hair off to get it all the same length again. He cut my hair three times as he tried to get it all to the same length. The first time, when he was done I asked for his comb and I picked my hair on the hairline up with comb to show him that the hair in the front of my head was not cut evenly with hair over an inch longer than the hair right next to it. So he did some more cutting. When he got through that time he gave me the comb and a mirror and I again showed him by picking up the hair with the comb that the hair was still not evenly cut. I explained to him that if we couldn't get the hair cut evenly, then we should just cut it all off with a clipper guard to get it to the same length. He asked me if thats what I wanted him to do and I said no, I want my hair all the same length and if that's what it takes, then we need to do that. He stated cutting again. By this time, my hair was down to less than an inch or so long. I watched him cutting hair and he would cut a little here and cut a little there and jump all around my head with the clippers, and then a straight razor and then a comb/scissor. Nothing systematic about his process of cutting my hair. It seemed obvious he is not a competent barber and maybe it is due to his age or maybe a medical condition. I decided to just pay him, not make a scene and leave out of respect for him and his age. I'm very glad I did that. Had I stopped to check again to see how bad it really was, I may not have been able to do that. It was so bad only someone that is totally out of it wouldn't notice what they had done. When I got home. I stood in front of the mirror and used my hand to pick up hair and hold it out just to look at the lengths. I was finding hair at many different lengths on my head with some on the back crown area literally more than an inch longer than the rest of the hair right next to it. I decided to take a set of barber shears and use a clipper guard to cut the hair all to the same length. Vic is a damn nice guy and it was pleasant to sit in his chair and talk to him however, it you need a haircut, I wouldn't let him cut it. Any barber that does what I describe here is not competent to be cutting hair. I feel sorry for him to be in that condition, to where he can allow a customer to get up from his chair with his hair that poorly cut and not realize it. My hair on the back area of my head which is where the would be looking as he stood behind me had clumps of hair more than an inch longer than the hair rich text to the clump. He shouldn't be cutting hair. Very sad for him. Getting old is hell... I used Yelp to find this shop and I want to make sure other Yelp users do not make the same mistake I did. Love this place! They know how to pamper their clients & provide baby-bottom smooth shaves. Took my elderly dad here last week to make him feel better, more alive. He now lives in a Tomball nursing home, uses a walker, has dementia. Before he got sick, he loved barber shop shaves. We called this shop & they took him within 10 minutes! When we arrived, they were so good with my dad: helped him onto barber chair, very patient & respectful with him. Barber took his time to ensure my dad had a great experience. Being born and raised in Los Angeles, it's been hard to find a good old school barber since moving to Texas, (I thought it would be the other way around). I live in Katy and passed by this place and immediately knew I had scored. Several of the barbers are true Veterans. I think most have at least served in the military. It is so very worth the trip. This rating is subject to change, but for now I have to give this barbershop 3 stars. Now as to why i removed two stars. First, they don't take appointments, which might not be a big deal to you, but is strange to me. Second, while I had a phenomenal haircut from one barber previously, my next visit I received a decent haircut, but not what I asked for, from a different barber. The attitude was almost like he knew better than me in regards to what I asked for. I imagine once my hair grows out again (it was cut much shorter than I asked for) I'll try to go to the barber that cut my hair the first time. read more
