Our family stopped here on our way through town recently. We come this way annually when taking our kids to Shakamak for camp. This year we made a new tradition - Joe's Garage! We will definitely stop here again. We ordered Joe's sampler platter for 3 people. It was plenty of meat for 2 big eaters or 3-4 smaller portions. Our daughter ordered the chicken bites basket. Our compliments to the chef! Not only was there plenty of food, but it was quite tasty as well! It was served with a variety of BBQ sauces-we each like a different one. The chicken bites basket and Joe's sampler platter were both a great value. Such a great surprise for a small town diner atmosphere!

Worth The Drive! I am actually eating leftovers as I write this review! Joes is a nice small garage located in an alley in Clay City. You can park in back or out front and they have a sidewalk built just for them leading to their entrance. Joes is decorated with street signs and tools and all kinds of other memorabilia that gives off a great feel to the restaurant. There isn't a lot of seating so if it's full when you get there, hang around and wait for a table to open up. You won't regret it! Our party got the Fried Jalepenos for an appetizer which were really good. Just a little bit of heat. I got Joes Sampler which included large portions of pulled pork, chicken, brisket, and a marinated beef of some sort. Then it also came with 2 sides. I chose Mac and Cheese that was awesome! I think it had garlic in it. And I got Sweet Potato Fries which had brown sugar and syrup on them. Also amazing. Then of course Texas toast. The size of this meal is huge. I turned it into 3 meals for myself. It's that big! Joes has 4 homemade BBQ sauces, Hickory, Sweet & Spicy, Moms and an Apple BBQ - Yes, Apple! They're all really good! We also had their Fried Tenderloin which looked amazing. It wasn't the huge tenderloins, it was a good sized homemade and very flavorful tenderloin though. And we also got the Ribeye Sandwich which I was told was really good as well. They serve Pepsi products and a few uncommon drinks like XXX Rootbeer and Choc Cola amongst others. The price is very reasonable and the quantity of food surpasses any BBQ joint around here! I will be back for sure. I'm already looking forward to it! Oh. I didn't try them but they were voted Best Wings in the Wabash Valley by the Fork In The Road. Make the drive and stop in to Joes Garage. I promise, you will not regret it!

In Clay City for work and came into Joe's. I was a bit skeptical at first being that small towns places don't always get the job done but I was pleasantly surprised to find out this is a gem! I had their chicken tacos and quickly realized I should of just gotten chicken. No need to wrap it up with anything or add toppings. Great smoky flavor. I stopped eating the tacos once I realized the fries were great. Plus there's this hickory barbecue sauce... I might need to throw it in my suitcase and take it back to Orlando with me. Lastly I was able to meet the owner. He was a very nice man and I was happy to be able to get genuine small town sincere service. I will definitely be back to Joes!

The bar is in an old historic building and the mural says the bar has been in operation for 120 years. That's a long time of weathering events such as prohibition, wars and the Great Depression. But in a small town like Brazil, you need a good bar. Inside, the bar is ancient, but tidy and comforting. I grab a seat at a high top table. Our server, Deniela, was fantastic, gave us the low down on daily specials and made a few recommendations. Water came out quickly, as did food. She checked on us regularly. I had the daily special, prime rib burrito, which was very good. The prime rib was tender and juicy. The rice was much more flavorful than the usual Tex mex rice. I loved my meal. My husband tried the breaded pork tenderloin. The breading was perfectly seasoned and the large loin was moist and tender. The bun was good, too. The hand cut chips were delicious. (I ate half his chips and could have made a meal of them.) There is street parking. I recommend a visit, but expect to be rooting for Alabama on game day. The food is delicious.

This BBQ joint does not show up in any of them so I found No. 423 by Google. First of all, this was a pleasant surprise because my buddy and I didn't have high hopes for it. The restaurant was very clean and the service was great. We started off with an appetizer and chose the onion straws with pulled pork and cheese. The pulled pork was ok and it was mixed with sauce and the onion straws were tasty. Nothing special though. I picked a combo plate with brisket and ribs and chose baked potato salad and cornbread salad. They were out of sweet potato casserole which I picked over cornbread salad. They upcharged for all of this though. They had a choices but brisket and ribs cost more and sides besides beans, slaw, and American potato salad cost more. The brisket was better than the ribs. I was surprised how good the brisket actually was. They got it down with the tenderness and good mix of fat. The ribs were big, meaty and wet but not as good as the brisket. They did give a good size portion for meat but the sides had small portions. I think I ate both sides in four bites. The most impressive thing about No. 423 though were their homemade sauces. Their homemade ranch was zesty. There was a creamy horseradish. The BBQ was a sweet ketchup base and then there was a housemade hot sauce. The hot sauce was a thicker Crystal and I liked mixing it with the BBQ sauce. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet. Overall, a pretty good place to eat in Petersburg. The sauces are housemade and terrific. The brisket is better than average and the ribs are pretty good. The two things I hate though are so many things having upcharges on a combo plate and the portions of the sides being small. I would eat here again though.

I liked it better when you could get your own drinks. They had the drink station cordoned off And you had to wait for someone to come and get your drinks. I prefer just to get my own. There was hardly any ice in our drinks like that we're trying to conserve ice. I had to go up and get a cup of ice after we sat down. The one thing that we did not like was that they took away the ketchup bottles and you had to use little ketchup packets to get out all the ketchup for your fries and onion rings. They serve the BBQ sauce in bottles. Why not just leave the ketchup in the bottles - ridiculous. Other than that, it was good. Service was good. Ambience was OK.

I passed by the restaurant on my way to work every day, and I finally decided to order from here. I wish I had ordered from here earlier because the food was so good. I ordered the rib tips and added a side of the hash brown casserole. The serving of the rib tips was such a generous portion that it could easily have fed 2 - 3 people. The meat was so tender. The smoke flavor permeated throughout. The sauce (Rick's Sweet Sauce) was just what I needed to balance the flavor. I think I could almost eat this every day and be satisfied. The hash brown casserole was very good, but as compared to the generous portion of ribs, you get maybe a couple of bites of the casserole. I just wish I'd had more. I would definitely order from here again, and I know I would want to try so many of the other offerings on their menu.

Their cute little restaurant is across from the post office. I wanted a sandwich to go and they had $13 lunch specials that included a selection of sandwiches, a side and drink. I selected the brisket sandwich with spicy bbq sauce, cole slaw and I grabbed a unsweetened ice tea. The clerk was friendly and I had a short wait. The dining room is neat and tidy with old photos of Martinsville and subtle pig decor. Outside is a really nice covered patio where pets are welcome. My food came out quickly in a paper bag with my name on it. The BBQ brisket was phenomenal. The sandwich had several generous slices of thick brisket with slightly burnt ends, but moist and tender inside. The meat melted into the bun, which was soft and fresh. This was the best bbq sandwich I'd had in a long time. The spicy sauce, came on the side, was really delicious, too. The cole slaw is prepared in-house, finely chopped with a sweet vinegar dressing. It was crunchy and good, and a I've portion. Easy 5 star lunch. Free street parking. I'd stop by every time I'd mail a letter if I lived here. And I'd mail a lot of letters.

She figured I'd want my favorite--the big slab of meatloaf with Texas toast. Nope...no meatloaf...not this time. Her timing was perfect as I've seen advertised and heard from reliable sources about the famous "Big Al" from Pappy's. I made my request. She immediately agreed that it had to be tried. The Big Al isn't just a heaping mound of pork. It's a heaping mound of pork on Texas toast with just the right ratio of a sweeter sauce and.....here it comes....a big clump of Mac and cheese!!! It was like a modern day Dagwood with pork, Mac and cheese and sauce. WOW!! I have a sweet tooth. I like a bit of salty with the sweetness. But the creamy Mac and cheese with the perfectly chewy (al dente?) pasta made this sandwich a hit. The sandwich, along with their perfectly crisped French fries were a great combo. It was a HUGE portion and definitely required some to be held back for leftover lunch. Here's what makes the sandwich even better: this was designed by a local teen and his wishes were for some of the profits from the sandwich to go back towards a worthy organization. I'm intentionally leaving some information out so those who don't know will go and discover the rest of the story on your own. Get out of the house and head to 111 E. National ASAP.
