Was on my way to brown county when the call for lunch occurred. We got off the interstate at Edinburgh. Typically we eat near the outlet mall, but I had seen a sign on the interstate for a bbq place. We opted to drive toward downtown and found hickory hillz. It's a smaller seating area and simple bbq menu. I had not had burnt ends but that was the closest to tips that they had that day. The server gave us a sample, and WOW, they were amazing. So we ordered and shared burnt end and sides of smoked Mac and cheese and Cajun slaw. It was the best bbq meat and sauce I've had in a long time. The sauce is homemade. Then the sides. I enjoyed the Mac and cheese, but the Cajun slaw was absolutely amazing. We have gone there twice now and will stop there on future trips!!!!! read more

Great Bbq and friendly owner/staff. Brisket and pork sandwiches are very good. Sides are good. I've had ribs and they seemed to be cooked too quickly over high heat. Burnt and tough. That's the only reason for a 4 pinkie of 5. Stay away from ribs. All else is good. Give them a try. read more

Happen to be in the area shopping at the outlet malls and I was starving. So, we happened to find this bbq joint. Had to use the restroom and it is not inside, but outside the joint. When you walk inside, they immediately notify you of what they have run out of for the day. High demand place to eat. We came at 2pm on a Sunday and they only had pork, chicken, or wings. They ran out of the pork by the time we finished our meals. I definitely recommend the pork. The French fries were nice and crispy and the Cajun coleslaw was delicious. The pork was tasty with no bbq sauce, but the yellow Carolina gold, and other sauces were a great addition to the flavor of the pork. I would recommend the chicken, it was dry. Definitely will try again in future when in the area. It's a BBQ joint. Indoor seating was a plus, but wear a jacket, it's cold inside. read more

I was using Yelp to find BBQ in South Indiana not far off of I-65. I found Hickory Hillz in Edinburgh with a very strong rating. My destination was set to find this little red bigger than a shack off of Highway 31. As I entered, I ordered at the counter and went with the 2 meat platter. I asked the lady which 2 meats she liked the best between pork, brisket, and burnt ends. She said the brisket and burnt ends were her favorite so I went with those 2 meats. The burnt ends looked phenomenal and they were really good. But I think burnt ends are not my favorite because they tend to be a little tougher to chew. But overall, these burnt ends were really good and the presentation had me salivating. The brisket looked kind of dry but it was actually pretty good brisket. I would have liked it a little more moist but it was easy to chew. For my sides I had potato salad and Cajun Cole slaw. My portions were very generous. The potato salad was a solid mustard base. The Cajun Cole slaw was impressive with its creaminess and spice added in. There are 4 sauces - a mild tomato base, a Carolina mustard, a sweet heat, and an extra hot. I wouldn't classify the extra hot as super hot though it does have a medium level of heat. But out of the sauces, I liked it the best with its peppery, hot sauce but yet tomato-ey flavor. The sweet hear was my 2nd favorite but I liked all the sauces. The only disappointment for me about Hickory Hillz was the sweet tea. First of all, there was none and if there had been that day, it would have been that abomination known as Gold Peak from a machine. Fresh brewed sweet tea is always better. Hickory Hillz is a legit Texas style BBQ place with tasty sauces, terrific meat, and gratuitous portions. I will bring my own fresh-brewed sweet tea next time. read more

This tiny little building off of US 31 is one of the best BBQ spots I have been to. Its not much on the inside or outside but the food is amazing. Their Mac and cheese is my absolute favorite Mac and cheese. Their burnt ends always sell out right away. I put pulled pork on my Mac and cheese with a bit of the bbq sauce and that is the best way to eat it and it is excellent. If I'm lucky I can get my husband to pick up a family size container of Mac and cheese and then I will eat it all week. read more

You can expect a line into the parking lot on a summer day for this little barbeque stand in Edinburgh. This is a small family run operation where they cook the barbecue outback. There's a pile of hickory wood next to the building. There's a small dining room that will seat about 25 people. People wait patiently in line in anticipation. The staff is friendly. The menu offers a variety of favorites including pulled pork, brisket and chicken. Prices are very reasonable and servings huge. We tried the pulled pork nachos and the brisket sandwich with sides of Cajun cole slaw and baked beans. They offer chili peppers and pickles on the side. The pickles are delicious. The barbeque pulled pork and brisket is moist and perfectly prepared. I LOVED the brisket sandwich. They offer a couple good different sauces - spicy and vinegary. The coleslaw was wonderful - creamy and spicy. The beans were smokey and good. We topped off our meal with a piece of key lime pie which was a whipped cream non traditional key lime pie. Stopped in while working in the area and was greeted with the smell of deliciousness as soon as I opened my truck door in the parking lot. I was not disappointed with anything other than not having room in my belly to try more. What impressed me the most was the prices, after COVID everything seemed to go through the roof. Superb BBQ place. I love BBQ and I love the ones that don't have sauces poured on top of the meat. I love the taste of the meat itself. And this place did not disappoint. I had a weekend's special of ribs and rib tips for a really affordable price (don't remember how much). But it lasted me almost a whole week since there was SO MANY rib tips. The box was very heavy. I ate it almost every day with salad, and it was never ending. The ribs were very smokey and seasoned very well. Excellent! They were out of the special of the day, Ribs. So I got the Pulled Chicken, Pulled Pork, and Burnt Ends. All three were fantastic. I got cole slaw, bake beans and potatoe salad. Slaw and beans were my favorite. If I have to say something negative, it would be that the chicken was a little dry BUT their sauces were soooo good that it made the chicken the perfect vessel to transport Carolina, Hot and Sweet sauce to your face. 10/10 would recommend read more

Interesting set of contradictions at the BBQ joint. It's a bbq joint so it is not supposed to be fancy. It meets that easily. I do like clean and this one wasn't. It was 4 pm and tables were not cleared. There is like three booths and 4 tables. None were clean. They had a total of six bottles of sauce for the whole dining room It is counter service and we were first in line. Even so it took the one girl who was working to finally hang up the phone and take our order almost 15 minutes. She had no one to help her so she took the order and filled it. That took another 20 mins. Did I tell you that at 4 pm on a Friday when ribs were on special that they were out of ribs? No one was manning the smokers so there wasn't going to be anymore They had a fountain coke machine and you could have any drink with refills as long as it was either Sprite, Diet Coke, or Barqs Rootbeer. All the other tanks were empty. The iced tea was empty. They were out of baked potatoes. For the carry out crowd, THEY WERE OUT OF BBQ SAUCE!!! I get the feeling they are in a real money crunch. They are out of product to sell. I would presume that their suppliers can provide product if they are getting paid. All this could be forgiven if the meat was incredible. Unfortunately it was just mediocre. Applebees would have been better. Darn it. It hurts me to say it. read more

Wow. This place has good bbq! Not to mention great sides. I smoke my own meat and make my own pulled pork so I'm very picky. Their pulled pork was just okay but my husband really enjoyed. I had the burnt end sandwich and it was a 5 out of 5. I just did not expect it to come saucy but very good. We called at 11:30 AM on a Saturday and they were already sold out of brisket. We arrived about 12 noon and had to wait a good 15 minutes just to order. This place is busy! And for good reason. My favorite part might be the smoked barbecue beans and spicy coleslaw. Amazing! Best BBQ I've had in a long time. I absolutely loved the Burnt Ends sandwich- it had the perfect amount of sauce (I didn't need to add more, and it didn't drip out of my sandwich making my hands super messy). Portions were generous. I'm fact, the sandwich filled me up and I took home the Cajun cole slaw to eat later (which was twice as much as you'd get from a chain fast food restaurant and homemade). I stopped in to grab a couple lunches to go and was very pleased with the swift service and tasty meals. It is easy to miss this place on US 31, a little north of the outlet mall. In fact you need to be headed northbound to get to it and keep your eyes open for the sign. I was heading southbound from Franklin and drove right by it! I did find a place not to far away to turn around and this time, I was successful. The parking lot has a U-shape to it so if the main parking is full, continue on around for a few more spots on the north side. The building is small and the east end of the building has the order counter and a few seats to eat overlooking the kitchen. The west end (closer to the highway) has a small dining room with 2-top tables, but they fill up fast. So, I decided to just get my order to go. The line moved quickly and I had just about enough time to look over the posted menu to make up my mind by the time it was my turn to order. I went with the Beef Brisket and the Boss Hog (pulled pork) sandwiches. I also ordered the potato salad and the Cajun slaw. With the only sauce choices being mild (sweet and tangy) or hot (or both), I went with the mild for my order. The meats didn't taste as smoky as some places I've had barbeque and the pork was significantly drier than the brisket, but both had good flavor. The sauce really helped with the combo of sweet and acidic (vinegary) tastes that made for an enjoyable lunch. The Cajun slaw looks like regular creamy cole slaw but with some Cajun spice added. It was good, just a bit of a twist on the flavor you might normally get elsewhere. The potato salad also had a bit of tangy acidity that brightened its flavor as well. So, good tasting food with quick service at a reasonable price considering how long good BBQ takes to make. They were out of tator tots, which is perfectly fine, but they subbed home fries that were soggy and gross. They were warming everything up in the microwave for everyone to see.. definitely what they did with the home fries. Pulled pork and coleslaw were great. Which isn't bad if your getting a meat plate. But my bun was ruined before I stared eating it. The most unfortunate part about the sandwich was I went for the BBQ but tasted no smoke. Everything we had here was excellent! very simple menu but it's easy to tell they take their time with the barbecue they make. we had beef brisket sandwich pulled pork sandwich spicy sausage. End it was all excellent good barbecue is hard to come bye. (especially at a reasonable price) in the portions were generous. I would've loved to have tried their wings but it was 1230 and the lady said they sold 130 pounds by 1130 in the morning so they must be freaking awesome. This place is a couple miles off the highway but well worth the drive don't expect anything fancy but expect something delicious and you will be very happy!! I hope this YELPED YOU ENJOY!! read more
