This bum literally charged me $100 to put a set of strings on an acoustic guitar for me. I asked for a "set-up" to lower the playing action which would require some actual luthier work such as filing the nut, planing down the bridge, adjusting the neck. He did none of it. I have known Joe for several years, and he always has treated me extremely well. Joe is a very easy man to speak to and he is always willing to help out with my problems if it can be fixed while I wait. He is no different than any other passionate person when it comes to subjects we all feel very strongly about (politics to name one). He and I have different political agendas, but all of our talks have been extremely civil! I am a small business owner myself and one thing I learned is never to talk politics with customers at work, or family members at get togethers. With all this said Joe knows his shit! Spoke with Joe on the phone about getting two Strats setup and upgraded with bone nuts. I was told the full setup would include the nut if I opted for it at $75 but, upon getting there and getting a quote, the bill ended up being $115 per guitar. Like another customer listed on here, I felt like I was severely mislead on the pricing over the phone. I told him that I'm sorry but I can't afford it because he said $75 would include the nut and I needed to get a total of three done. He then raised his voice (in front of a elderly customer) to tell me he would have never said that and it was not true! He told me next time he will have to charge me a $30 evaluation fee per guitar even if I don't end up getting service, because I can't just take his time and information - that the neck was bowed and required intonation adjustment- and leave with it. His "evaluation" was playing a few licks on the fretboard of each guitar for about 15 seconds .... $2.00 per second seems a little extreme to me. The only reason I didn't give one star is because he did not make me pay him the $60 before leaving. After our phone conversation, I went there thinking I'd get my guitars setup for an agreeable price in a reasonable timeframe, but was instead met with ambiguous pricing and unprofessional conduct. If you live in or around Lake County, I recommend Phabe's Music (specifically David) and Arrowhead Music (specifically Kenny) for more straightforward and consistent guitar services. read more

Went in because I paid for guitar lessons with Joe. He was tuning the guitar so we could begin and he snapped one of the pieces to tune the guitar off and refused to fix it or even continue with the lesson. He gave me my money back for the lesson and told me to go somewhere else. read more

I came from a different market and didn't know what to expect...First of all, great customer assistance...but that's easy...most importantly, the best work that has been done to my guitars (especially considering the original quality of the instruments)...Take your guitars here! I will usually work on my own instruments, (intonation, neck relief, etc...) but fret work takes a level of experience and quality of equipment that most people do no possess...All good things come to those who wait. My son has been going to Joes for quite a while. Up until today, we have never had a serious issue. Only that we have had to coach our son to refrain from slamming other shops and repeating Joes political ramblings. We chalked it up to quirky. Our son is curious and wants to do everything but is reaching his cap in multiple in & after school activities. He brought home a saxophone and information on leasing. We said no for multiple reasons. Long story short, he needs to focus in on 2 classes that are hovering around a "C". Unfortunately, we dropped him off today for his 30 minute lesson that did not take place at all. Joe used the time to unleash his totally unfounded ramblings on my 12 y/o, swearing, making accusations, and refunding our payment for the month - telling the poor kid not to come back. My son was so upset, he was texting other family members to come get him. Joe went so far as to personally insult me to my son stating facts that have no correlation to anything - such as I have never stepped foot in the store so I shouldn't have an opinion - this caused my son confusion and unnecessary strife. I travel a ton for work and have two other kids. When I am in town, my husband and I do what many parents do - divide and conquer. Further, my husband has paid the bill from day one. Joe passive-aggressively wrote the refund check in my name. I'm SO GRATEFUL that things didn't escalate beyond that. How an adult could become unhinged with a defenseless kid like this is totally beyond me. I question whether or not he is fit to work with children. I see that Joe discredited another persons review. Just so it's abundantly clear, this situation happened and a BBB complaint has been filed. Joe took his frustration out on a child and has not contacted my husband or I about this. We are SO appalled and disgusted by his behavior. read more

Poor customer service, I waited for 15 minutes for someone to give me assistance and the staff just stood around talking to each other.

I have nothing bad at all to say I went in at 12:30 but I thought I was going to have to wait in the car for a half an hour because on line it says that they open at 1:00 but to my surprise he was opening up a half an hour early which was great for me. My daughter plays the clarinet and she had a key that was sticking and the cork on one piece was coming off I really had no time to get this fixed she is in marching band and she has practice every morning and is in a parade on Sunday this is Thursday already so I took it in to see what they could do and how long do it take add to my wonderful surprise he had a fixed within 3 hours and I was picking it up already it works great we have no issues he did a wonderful job. I've had my guitar worked on at Joe's twice now, and each time has been a stellar experience. Joe is friendly, laid back, and willing to take care of you as soon as you step in the door as long as he doesn't have a lesson going on or a backlog of instrument repairs. I live in Shaker, about a 30 minute drive away, and had a volume knob stop working on me last night. My immediate thought - head up to Joe's and have him fix it up; and that's exactly what I did. Rather than have it get taken in by some rude, impersonal guy at Guitar Center who would take a week and charge fifty bucks, I drove up to Joe's, we took a look at my guitar, and he made the simple fix I needed within ten minutes, all for five bucks plus tax (plus I got to hang out with his wonderful dogs for a bit)! Save yourself some time, money, and frustration, people - go to Joe's! read more

I bought a used 100w Ampeg combo years ago and was very pleased. I had a setup done before and have some repairs being done now. Joe takes pride in his work and does the job right the first time. I've never had an issue. Good place if you understand craftsmanship takes time and it's a small local store without an army of semi-skilled production workers. read more
