Great pizza and calzones! Nothing like a locally owned business to raise the bar!

However, when our party arrived for our 12:30 reservation, almost all of the food was gone and nothing was being refilled, despite there still being 30 minutes left in service. The little food that was available wasn't even very good, and everyone in our group left hungry. The service was also extremely poor. After ordering drinks, we waited about 15 minutes to receive them, and by then we had already finished the minimal food we were able to get. Throughout the rest of the meal, we were largely ignored and had no idea how to even check out. While the manager did comp 50% off the buffet cost, we still paid full price for drinks. For a group of six, we spent around $80 and left disappointed, hungry, and frustrated. This event was clearly not planned well, and both the food quality and service need major improvement.

What a cute little spot! I made the quick drive from Marion to meet a friend and see our buddy…read moreshred some tunes on a Thursday night (and I noticed a few other solid musicians on their upcoming schedule!) This is a really cool older building and I think there's a lot of potential for it to be a really neat gathering space as the brewery matures. It looks like they opened in 2020, so I'd love to see how they settle in and "find their voice" more, if you will. Not being much of a drinker, I had perused the menu ahead of time and thought I might try their ciders and sours. They offer flights in 3 or 6, but it doesn't change the price. (I always thought that was the idea behind a flight, like bundle and save lol.) I tried Bauer Sour, Coyote Verde, and A Little Prickly in the flight and a sip of the Kellyfish that my friend ordered. I was surprised that I liked all four, but my fave by far was the Coyote Verde. The prickly cider was much sweeter than I expected, reminding me of jolly rancher more than prickly pear, which was a little bit of a bummer for me because I expected to like it more. Bauer and Kellyfish were more subtle and refreshing, leaning more towards a beer-y taste than the other two. I also happen to be something of a pizza snob, so I'm always hesitant to try it at a brewery, especially now that wood-fired is so popular. While it wasn't my favorite ever, it wasn't bad. I stuck with a margherita because that's my usual gauge for new places. If/when I come back, I'd try the (blasphemous/Iowa famous) taco pizza that sounded oddly satisfying at the time. I got too comfortable though and ordered a dessert Nutella pizza...only to be disappointed when it came out covered in marshmallow. I should've clarified topping options for their desserts before diving in. My friend ordered the Sweetopia cheesecake and said it was delicious. Overall, a decent experience but not great. A solid case for half stars because 3 feels too low and 4 feels a bit too high. Cool small town spot and big points for live music from some of the best musicians in the area. I look forward to watching BIT Brewery grow!

A neat little brewery located in a small town in an older building that I'm happy to say they've kept the ambiance of. They have a wood fire pizza oven and the pizza is very good. The menu is small but ample, but keep in mind it is in a small town and I xan understand not wanting to have a huge inventory to go bad. I was here when they first opened which was during the pandemic and the beers weren't great but we marked it up to having their opening delayed for numerous pandemic reasons. However, im happy to say they've now found their stride and the beers are solid. Definitely worth a drive to try it out!

Because my pizza came from down the street at the Pizza Ranch. Now, I've eaten at Jolly's several times and have enjoyed the pizza. What is different you ask? For the first time ever in my life, I walked out of a restaurant due to poor service/attitude. The best part was I was going to suck it up and deal with it, but when my teen-aged child caught the "we don't want you here" vibe; you know it's time to say something. Friday night and I'm in Vinton and hungry due to the fact that we hadn't had time for supper. So we go to Jolly's and the first thing I do is ask my kid to check their door for their hours. The "Open" Light or beer lights were on and she reported that the door sign said until 10 pm. Ok, lets eat. We walk in and we can tell the back part of the restaurant had their floors mopped (par the course - don't wait until closing to start to clean. I'm fine with that.) and no other customers were visible. I asked the woman who was standing in there if they were still open, knowing that the sign had said open until 10pm. She informs us that they take orders until 9:30, not a problem since US Cellular showed it was only 9:10 and we knew what we wanted. She indicates that they are and we go in and sit. Drink order is taken and she comes back and we give her our order. Already my kid is feeling the vibe, cause I get a text message saying, "Seems cranky". I agreed and we ordered the pizza to go so that we wouldn't inconvenience them any longer. But because we were starving, we ordered cheese bread cause that doesn't take long to prepare; right? Yes, right. Just got to melt the cheese. At this point she goes back to tell the pizza maker with the order. This is in the same room and there is no divider. You can tell she isn't happy at this point but again I was going to just let it go. Another adult comes out and I hear her talking about our order and then how "the oven is cold and blah, blah, blah." My kid looks at me with the "this isn't what service looks like" look. So I proceed to ask the woman if they would rather not make our order. Because at this point, only thing the cook has done is put the crust on the pan. (I could hear the crust roller thing) She launches into a explanation about what she really meant, but "you can go if you want". Hmmm, not the message I was hoping to hear. I ask again and clarify that it really feels like they don't want to bother with our order and we have felt like that since she took our order. She responds with the same, "I don't care what you do. You can go if you want." Will my food have spit in it if I stay? We elect to leave and go three doors down to the Pizza Ranch that is also open until 10pm. They welcome us warmly and our pizza is out to us in less than 15 minutes. I can understand if I had walked in at 9:50 and had wanted a pizza. But seriously, if you are going to advertise your hours either stick with them or when asked "are you still open" tell us what you really want; "I'm sorry, we've been without customers for the last hour so we are closing up early." Had she said this, I would have respected that and went down to the Pizza Ranch from the get go. Sorry Jolly's. Won't be back and as poor service goes, you know customers are quick to tell others.

It was busy but not so much that we didn't get sat right away. Our server was also busy so someone else took our drink order - and then gave us menus. We ended up ordering the meatballs, a salad, and a classic pie, and walked out also with a cool vintage looking Pagliai's tee! The meatballs were large, came with two, and really flavorful. The sauce was classic tomato but not basic, you could taste the aromatics and that was so good. Basic salad but really delicious runny ranch to go with it, which I loved. I dipped the crust from my pizza in it and it was just so good! For the pie we split it in half - half with meats and the other half with special. The crust was thin and also seasoned nicely and couldn't say enough about how delicious the cheese was. It was so gooey and thick - it made the pizza so incredibly good. Besides our server taking us on due to the prior one being too busy, the vibes inside were chill and casual, music was good and the atmosphere was pleasant. Everyone behind the pizza counter had smiles and acknowledged you. Was a real delight. Everywhere in Grinnell folks rave about Pagliai's and we understand why. We'll definitely have to come back!

The place was packed and the servers were very busy. We got seated right away and our drink orders were taken. We couldn't decide what we wanted so we asked the server's advice. We ended up getting the bake Mostaccioli. It was delicious! Leo was running around checking on everyone. He seemed to know nearly everyone. When he stopped by our table I mentioned that I used to live in Oelwein. We discovered that we had mutual friends. I told him that I had learned to make meatballs from them. He came back a few minutes later with a couple of meatballs for us to taste. We admitted that his meatballs were better than mine. He also brought us a sample of sausage. I felt like we were family! It was a wonderful evening with awesome food that was honestly the best I've ever tasted in a restaurant. I would absolutely recommend Leo's to anyone who likes authentic Italian cuisine!
