Wow! So I had a service call at a factory in Phillipsburg today and on the way was thinking of stopping at Jimmy's at the free bridge. I was so taken by the price of gas ($2.75) I drove right past! So here comes Joe's! I have ben going here for many years, so I was pretty sure of what I would get. Ordered a Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak with onions. Very friendly lady took my order - actually the same the made up the order! Only took a few minutes! Order was out! Delivered to me on a tray with very nice plate! I grabbed a diet Coke from the case, the only flavor of diet soda in the cooler, which is ok I guess, and sat down to eat my $14 worth of sandwich and drink. I sort of looked at the steak and said "not much meat!" but I was wrong! The perfect roll packed with flavorful Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak!!! And with a pickle on the side. And they provided a fork in the event a few bites fell out. None did! Perfect sandwich. Yup, I can eat cheaper, but product was worth it! And when you order anything at any of the Yocco's you get the product on a sheet of paper on the the tray. Note: They take credit cards. No extra charge. Just stupendous! The food was great and the setting was great. What a great old institution. It irks me when people base their entire review on how jovial the staff is. It is a 90-year-old sandwich shop. It has perfect ambience for what it is trying to be. If you want white glove treatment, go to Ruth's Chris for your next cheesesteak sandwich and get over yourself. Sorry. I got distracted. Great place. You get a whiff of 90 years of sandwiches and fries right when you walk in. The good kind of whiff, not a bad one. They have very interesting options on the menu (and some flavors of packaged potato chips I never dreamed of) but I was there for the cheesesteak sandwich. So, just to level-set; this is a cheesesteak sandwich a long way from Philly. It is not in direct competition with the endless list of cheesesteak places in and around that city. So don't walk in expecting that. Having said that, it is a very respectable sandwich. I did get double cheese and it still didn't come with much cheese so that was disappointing. The steak was good but would have benefitted from much more salt and pepper. The roll was pretty good. The "hot" sauce wasn't particularly hot. The closest thing I could come up with was cocktail sauce. Doesn't seem like that would work but, somehow, it does. Does help moisten the sandwich up some. The onion rings were sublime. Our mission was to have a pork roll sandwich and fries. I won't eat fries unless they are crispy. I can't tell you how many times I've ordered fries well done and they are either burnt or limp. Joe's fries were so perfect, I ate until I hit the bottom of the generously filled bag. We are from Thousand Oaks, California, and if you ask for pork roll, they have no idea what you are asking for. I could easily tell them heaven on a roll. Joe's nailed that as well. The staff is wonderful. We will definitely come back, just not the first week in August, because that's vacation time. read more

Came for the Cheesesteaks not sure what the sauce is all about but you can get mild or hot...ordered cheesesteak with none since all of the cheesesteaks I have ever had didnt come with "sauce". Just the average cheesesteak. Beware.....The Pierogies are not "homemade" . Pierogies are straight from Mrs.T frozen pierogies.....type just like you can get at the grocery store. In the Phillipsburg S Main St area and so, we decided to stop into the steak shop to order some food. Thank you Sara for answering my questions and Red, for grilling the steak and preparing the food. That special sauce, Joe's red sauce is gold. It's the juice that elevates the steak sandwich that heightens the taste buds and mine was HOT red so it was extra special. And a shout out to Candace, thanks for working and participating in all aspects of customer service of the business! To think, after almost 35 years, we took ourselves back down memory lane to enjoy your delicious steak sandwiches. Only fault, I didn't have my to phone to take any photos but compared to the steak sandwich photos on the reviews, our steaks were meager with the meat. Pretty good cheesesteaks. The meat tasted good and all of the vegetables were well cooked. The sauce was a flavorful addition as well. The bread, while tasty and well toasted, was too much bread for me personally. I remove a star mainly because my group had a big order and the labeling made it really hard to tell what was on which sandwich, and we weren't sure if an order got messed up or not. I went to Joe's being though I've been a Phillipsburg resident for 5 years and had never been. I went in and the food was made fresh and service was amazing.. I got two cheese steaks and a large chili the chili was watery and I've had better from Wendy's. We stopped here on a whim coming home from a jets game and I'm so glad we did. I loved this place it was delicious! My boyfriend and I got. Cheesesteak with cheese whiz and hot sauce on it. The hot sauce was pretty good. It's sweet with a little tang too it. We also got cheese fries that were good too. The bottled sodas were a little iffy it was almost like they were flat. Absolutely disgusting. Put in an order for 6 people. The sandwiches were very soggy and there were items missing from our order. When I called I was informed to come back and they would fix it. Explained that we only get a half hour for lunch I asked if they would deliver it. Was advised no but would write my name down for a credit in the future. This is not the first time that we have gotten a bad meal there but being in a business in the same town we feel we should support area businesses. The manager was rude and unwilling to rectify the situation. Coming back from PA, I had to stop by for a good ole classic Cheesesteak sandwich. Place has been around for nearly 75 years, so clearly they know how to make a good sandwich right? Mehhh.... I love a loaded sandwich, so I had, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms and peppers on mine. Bread was stale and hard, provolone cheese was not appetizing, and were very skimpy on toppings. Once the bread is ruined, its hard to really enjoy a sandwich. Steak itself was nicely chopped up but had no seasonings, lettuce wasn't chopped up, just a large piece you'd see on a sandwich from Wendy's, jalapeños were a perfect kick, and mushrooms were fantastic! Fries were also delicious, perfectly soft and crispy. For my drink, I had a fountain diet coke, something so simple, right? It wasn't a shake or anything that you can mess up on. Took a sip and immediately noticed that It was very flat, no biggie, returned it and politely asked if the soda keg can be changed. The young lady proceeded to the back, returned and advised that everything was flat... Okkkk? So I took a bottled drink instead. What got me was another worker proceeded to say "not everyone can get what they want." Luckily, it was said to my man and not me because if I heard it, I would've walked out. I'm not going to give your business my hard earned money, when this is something so simple that can be fixed but since your embarrassed, you decided to flip it around. 2 for friendly service and being a clean place. The food? Meh. We ordered a steak with hot peppers and sausage with sweet peppers, both with hot "sauce". Note to self--remember to always order things on the side. Why? The sauce is ketchup based, and I'm not a fan of ketchup. I know, it's apparently unAmerican of me, but it's one way to guarantee that I will dislike something--just add ketchup. Fortunately, I was able to nibble along the spine of the sandwiches as though they were corn on the cob to avoid the substance. Also--even the peppers are in the ketchup sauce. I will say that the sandwiches are enormous--8"x4", so if anyone is complaining that they're expensive, bah. They're massive stuffed sandwiches. But, the bread is also not toasted/heated on the flat top. Grr. It was a good roll, but this didn't help matters. Then the meat--meh. Chipped beef or chipped sausage that each tasted a bit gamy. The onion rings and french fries were standard. The pickles are a standard German style with sweet spices such as clove and coriander. Under $15 for the 2 of us, and we were stuffed, but I can't say in a good way. Very full still--4 hours later--but not a happy fullness. Just full. And they do accept credit cards, plus offer a AAA discount which we decided not to partake in using. A cute place with a pleasant staff, but we weren't impressed by the food. There's a funny sign in the shop mentioning the need for 2 napkins, but you will need at least 4-6 if not more. read more

This is the kind of place that makes Jersey great. My son and I were hiking in the area and our stomachs were rumbling. Perused Yelp and found Joe's. A local landmark it seems. A quick drive over and we were ready for some serious eating. Friendly person took our order but the person who rang us up gave the impression that exchanging a pleasantry or two was a foreign concept. The place is known for their steak sandwiches. My son had hot dogs. He demolished them quickly noting they were better then Jimmy's down the block. That's high praise in my book. I had the steak sandwich, no cheese with some very good spicy sauce and grilled onions. Great sandwich-needed more sauce. Next time I'll ask for it. French fries and onion rings. Oh my goodness!!! I ate here when I was a kid!!! Our family lived there between 1962-1966 or thereabouts. My dad was the preacher at the Baptist Church on Main St. Every once in a while, we got to eat at Joes....although I think back in the day, it was just take-out.
