I really enjoyed my visit to Joe's and there's a reason why it is so popular and has been around forever! Walking in you get that old school feel with the staff dressed to the tee and very friendly. They had a special pre fixe menu that was fairly priced which allowed me to try a lot of the menu instead of having to order a la carte. Our server was professional and terse but in a way that I didn't mind and he even scolded some other busboys for taking too long to clear our table which I found funny but appreciated too. I started with the Stuffies which were amazing! The baked clams were dressed up nicely and these were very tasty. The stone crabs were delicious and I loved the dipping sauce it came with. Granted we visited outside of stone crab season and so I'd love to come back when the crabs are more fresh and in season. It also came with sides of hash browns, creamed spinach, and a grilled tomato. While I appreciate the quantity and variety they gave, these sides were a miss for me. The pre fixe concluded with my choice of the Key Lime Pie which was a nice ending for the meal. Nicely balanced between tart and sweetness. My only note would be for the crust layer to be bigger since it would help balance out the pie portion a bit better. We also got the fried chicken which is a steal for only $9. Went on a Friday at 630 pm, it was busy but not crowded. We went to the cafe area which is like a chill area and ordered the fried chicken, the chicken tenders which come with fries the chopped salad and the select in stone crab. The came out to $105. Everything came out quickly and hot which I love. The chicken for 8.95 is the best deal there. It's perfectly fried and the batter is light and crispy. The chicken tenders are a solid portion and they come with fries it was $15. The select crab stone choice comes with a mix of sizes 59.99 and it was 6 pieces. And lastly the chopped salad. Got the small which is a good portion but there's nothing special about it. It was mainly iceberg lettuce. Service was fine, but they should definitely consider a second cashier to help because we went back to order a dessert and there were about 10 people in line. Words can hardly do justice to the wonderful evening we had at this restaurant. We started with the stone crab, which was absolutely outstanding. We also ordered the chicken, and the portion was so generous that it genuinely surprised us. Even if you are vegetarian there is something here for you. I had the watermelon salad and it was absolutely great. All of their portions are HUGE. Just the bread serving alone can fill you up. Lovely restaurant. The Key Lime pie was outrageous, yes it was! The friend chicken my friend had was a hit so was the wedge salad and the sides (spinach and hash browns). We were seated promptly for our 7:00pm reservation--depending on how far you're staying, I would maybe try rideshare as the complimentary lot across the street was full and finding street parking was difficult. I really enjoy crab in general and wanted to try out Joe's because of all the hype, but I overall did not feel the food was particularly good. I think we got the large crab, made it a classic meal, and got an order of the half chicken to round it out. There was also a complimentary bread service, with a variety of different breads. As soon as the crab was brought out and we had bibs on, our server asked if we wanted a picture, which was very kind. In terms of food taste: The crab was fine, but I didn't care for the mustard sauce it was served with. I asked for more lemon wedges, which I received really quickly and appreciated. Again, the service was by far the best thing about this place! Later on, as my boyfriend and I were talking about how this place seemed a little old timey, he asked if they were just keeping the recipes the same since they had opened. No problem. They came and got us in the amount of time it takes to order a drink and then we were seated at a cute table for 4 by the window. Our server, Alejandro, was over in a flash but not before someone else came and got us water and I think someone else took our drink order. It was seamless and amazing to have so many people working together to make sure our meal went well. We started with a range of appetizers, cocnut shrimp, stuffies and a chopped salad to share. All were delicious. For our entrees, two of us went with their amazing fried chicken (best deal in town at only $8.95) one had the blackened grouper and another the crab cakes. We also tried their sweet potato fries (so much sugar and cinnamon!) the coleslaw and the lyonnaise potatoes. But while all of that was fantastic- here's what stole the show for me. We ordered 2 slices of their amazing key lime pie to share for the 4 of us. I figured they'd just plop them down with an extra fork and be done with it but no! The pie was split in the back and served to each of us like it was our own. And one in our group had ordered extra whipped cream and we all got it! AMAZING! The server we had was 50/50. I had to ask 3 times for the gluten free menu and it took forever to finally get it. We frequently had empty cups, including water, and it took an insane amount of time to get them filled. The menu was pretty good and they had a lot of gluten free items including a dedicated gluten free menu. The food was very basic. It was nothing spectacular. The crab bisque had 0 crab in it and was very basic. The crab cakes I was expecting giant lumps of crab (crab meat is what they are famous for) and I didn't get that which was disappointing. They also have a take away area which is food court style where you can more easily just walk in and eat and pick what you want from a limited menu. The bar area also has a smaller menu that you can sit and eat at the bar. The dining room area pretty much requires a reservation. We initially had a 2 hour estimate wait but was able to get a reservation 10 minutes from the time we walked in and were told that. They also do have a free parking lot available which is first come first serve. Overall. I probably would never recommend this place based solely on what we had. read more

I'll admit I didn't know much about Joe's Stone Crab going in, but after one meal here I can see why it's so popular. This place was VERYYY busy on a Friday evening, so make sure you make a reservation ahead of time or it might be a while before you get seated. Even though our large group had one, we still had to wait a little bit. We ordered plenty of sides that were portioned larger than the average entree elsewhere. My personal favorites were the scallops, calamari, and lobster mac & cheese. The fried chicken was a pleasant surprise; the breading honestly reminded me of Jollibee. We also wanted to include brussels sprouts to have a veggie at the table and sort of offset all of the fried food, but the dish ended up being mostly bacon and we couldn't finish it. But the pièce de résistance was of course the stone crab platter, which comes to you pre-cracked and ready to eat. These are so juicy and fresh, and though it's pretty pricy, it's definitely worth trying at least once. The service was excellent and all the waiters had friendly attitudes and smiles on their faces, whether they served us specifically or not. Once seated, everything else more than made up for it. We ordered a ton of food to share, and the standouts were incredible. The oysters were super fresh, the stone crabs were perfection, the scallops were beautifully done, and the fried chicken was a total surprise hit with the crispy, juicy skin and honestly one of the best things on the table. When we looked at the hours, it looked like it was closing soon so we were going to try the take out window. Turns out they were still open and the kitchen was open for at least 30 minutes longer so we sat at the bar. My friend got a drink, and I got a half-dozen oysters which were so fresh and delicious. The crazy thing is that it was less than $9 for a serving! It's literally half a chicken! We also got the chilean sea bass. The fish was cooked perfectly and the the sauce it sat on was tasty. I really appreciated the added texture of the crispy potatoes on top! One thing especially appreciated was our server's recommendation against ordering a large sized hash brown and suggested getting a small one to split instead. He was right, it was plenty - we couldn't finish our serving. We had to give their signature stone crabs a try while we were there. It was a little pricey but tasty. We ordered medium stone crab claws, fried chicken, and the grilled tomatoes. I need to do a tremendous PSA that a half fried chicken is $8.95. That is absolutely absurd. Stone crabs are of course a higher priced item but the medium claws are about $49 and come with a pretty hefty portion. I think overall because of the quality and vibes, the OG Joe's has a reputation for being a bit on the pricier side - but I am here to say you can most definitely have an amazing lunch, picnic, takeout experience that is high quality and a good value here at take away. You can also choose do dine here at the bar or at some of the tables they have inside. We opted to take our food to South Pointe park which was glorious with the January Miami weather. If you're visiting Miami, Joe's Stone Crab is one of those places you just have to experience. It's a huge, family-friendly restaurant with classic, old-school steakhouse energy. Not overly stuffy, just timeless. And importantly, you don't have to be a big seafood person to enjoy it. The menu really has something for everyone. We did valet (100% worth it because parking in the area is rough), checked in, and were seated right on time. We asked for an outdoor table and got a quiet corner spot, which ended up being perfect since we had our baby with us. He needed to nurse and nap, and ended up sleeping through most of dinner. Our waitress was so warm and friendly. She mentioned she's a mom too and was incredibly sweet with our baby when he woke up. The rest of the staff were just as kind and attentive, which made the whole experience feel even more welcoming. Food-wise, we went all out: oysters, stone crab (large), a 9oz filet mignon, lobster tail, hash browns, garlic broccolini, and apple pie à la mode. Everything was excellent. We basically cleaned every plate. Even my husband, who normally isn't into crab, loved the crab claws.
