They've got a nice selection of beer, both on draft and in their fridge, which contains many different can and bottle options. The bartenders are always cool and helpful. They have an outdoor sitting area, as well as a long bar with tables lining the opposite side of the area. My buddies and I stopped in for the first time last Thursday afternoon. The food was tasty, and the bartender was friendly and efficient. Every so often you finally stop at one of those places that has always been there and you've driven by a million times but for whatever reason never went to and when you go, you sort of think: "Duh, why did this take so long?" For me, that was Joe's. Within five minutes the vibe is set right when blasting out of their jukebox is the immortal Frank Zappa classic "Why Does It Hurt When I Pee". I mean where can you go that is going to play a song so awesome and twisted. The bartender loved that I was singing along to it. (Not everyday can you in public sing that your balls feel like a pair of maracas and have the honest excuse that it's not you - it's the song.) We came near the end of happy hour and after that ended the place basically cleared out with one occupied table and three others at the bar. Before that there were a good 20ish people inside. Food wise - think basic. Burgers - fries - cheesesteak - perogies - chicken fingers. Noteworthy would be the soups. Definitely scratch made in house and very good. The chicken fingers and cheesesteak we got were as expected and the prices here are reasonable. One surprising hiccup was the even though their website keeps the beer list updated almost daily and they hand you menus with what they have plus it's rolling on the one TV fairly often, the two initial things we tried to order they were out of. Not the biggest deal in the world but you know... As mentioned in other reviews, definitely an eclectic mix of people the night we were there. Everything from what looked like two college students to the neighborhood drunk who sleeps in his car and everything in between. Overall Joe's is a fun little hole in the wall corner bar that has been churning it out for 60+ years and it has retained a lot of unquiet character that hopefully never changes. Karaoke Bar (on specific Friday's) - The DJ was a great rapper and would help out participates who had rap songs. Decent song selection though the one song we chose had the right title and incorrect song playing. Cheap beer, eclectic group of individuals with a very friendly atmosphere all around from staff to customers. If you're looking for a dive bar you'll have a fun time. Great dive bar atmosphere with awesome people. Prices are on the steep side for a can of domestic beer, but I get it. You get the dive bar experience at city prices. The food is really good and those prices are reasonable. Rotating homemade soups round out a basic but good menu. You can always find a friend at Joe's. read more

This may be an exceptional place, according to the reviews.... Unfortunately I had a horrible experience during Bethlehems St. Patrick's Bar Crawl at this location. It was absolutely horrendous. The bar was crowded, as it would be at a bar crawl, okay fine. I waited 10 minutes for a bartender to come up to me, when they finally did, I asked the bartender what do the tickets that come with the bar crawl come with. She SNATCHED The tickets out of my hand ripped them up and walked away. 5 minutes later she came back and THREW a lanyard at me and then proceeded to go to the people next to me. I tried to get her attention and then asked again about the tickets and if I could order my drinks. She looked at me and again walked away. Never answered a question I had or even asked what I wanted to order. The same lady comes back and tells me someone else is going to help me. Another lady comes up and asks what I wanted. So i told her AGAIN , I'm just trying to figure out what these tickets are for. She tells me she doesn't think the tickets are used at the bar and once again WALKS AWAY to go and talk to the previous lady. The second lady comes back and completely ignores me and gets someone else's drinks. My friend tried to ask the same thing abt the tickets. If the tickets aren't used at this location we wanted them back, it was rude to just take them. No one answers my friend abt the tickets and the first bartender took a stack of tickets behind the counter and threw them at her and told her to get out. It was absolutely ridiculous and no communication whatsoever. If you're overwhelmed from the event YOU SHOULDVE CALLED OFF. If you don't like your job then go find another one. I understand the circumstances of the situation, but again, very rude service given, when I was only being respectful and trying to ask questions. I will never come here or do a bethlehem bar crawl again. read more

The quintessential neighborhood dive bar. Not much to look at from the outside, or the inside for that matter. Everyone seems to know everyone here. It definitely has a "Cheer's" feel to it. The owner, Joe, is very social and engages in a nice banter with his customers. The good: cheap, cheap beer; cheap, cheap eats The bad: very limited eats; don't expect to be blown away by the non-existent food menu. The ugly: this is an 85% beer bar. The questionable liquor selection is dated and very slim. Forget the fancy drink concoctions too. You're bound to get a weird look. The bonus: the other 15% is whiskey. They have more whiskey bottles behind the bar than everything else combined. I imagine if you're ever feeling down and out, this would be the place to get inebriated...cheaply! What can I say. I came here looking to sing Karaoke because they were hosting it on Friday night, and when I arrived I discovered a small venue with many people jammed inside. It was literally standing room only. The people were eclectic. There were some who looked like they needed the alcohol served as much as they needed a reason to park their shopping cart and come inside where it was warm. Then there were those who looked like they just came from their college dorms. There were a few couples out for a date night that were here to sing Karaoke. The karaoke system was fairly standard. KJ used laptop and only requested you provide him with song title, artist and your name, but there were three ring binders with song choices that covered many genres. The speakers blasted distorted sound that really sucked. However, since the majority of those attempting to belt out their personalized improvement of Bohemian Rhapsody couldn't carry a tune, the distortion provided welcomed relief. The rotation was fairly short despite the number of people in the venue. This would explain why very few people noticed the singing or offered applause for concluding performers! This is a smoking establishment. So if you have sworn off inhaling carcinogens and prefer breathing fresh air with your beverage, this place will not interest you very long. Regarding food, I noticed people eating burgers and chicken wings, but I didn't partake. A few ate thin slices of birthday cake, offered to those who's palates were interested in more than beer, whiskey, cigarettes or chewing tobacco. I didn't partake, choosing to follow the wise old rule that if you didn't know who baked it, brought it, or served it, leave it alone! I looked into the kitchen and noticed a sign saying, "Toxic," so let's just say it didn't encourage me to order finger food from the kitchen to go with my diet coke. I could go on...but the KJ is calling my name right now, announcing it is my turn to sing. So I take a deep breath, holding it in as I conclude my sojourn from the corner of the room and return instinctively to the microphone! read more

Very disappointed. They advertise as the best bar, best cheesesteaks and homemade soups but my experience has been FAR from that. I've even game them several chances, but each time I left incredibly disappointed. The sub-par food was one thing (the "homemade" soup tasted like it was straight from a can), but the service was even worse. Just recently found the great dive bar in downtown Bethlehem. Good cheap drinks, friendly crowed and staff. Food is good and the have karaoke Friday's nights with KJ Ronnie, he was fun and outgoing. Customers were all walks of life, one giant melting pot in one place. Justin was tending bar that night and was the greatest bartender I've seen in a while. Yeah there's some "eclectic" people, it's a downtown dive bar, what were you expecting? That's one of my favorite things about it, there's all kinds of people to meet! Go to Brew Works if you want an "upscale" environment and expensive food and little drinks (although you might see *gasp* college kids!!). Joe's has great cheap drinks, Justin the bartender is really friendly, the guy who runs karaoke is awesome, the place is clean and the atmosphere is fantastic. I love a good dive bar and when I found out I was moving to this area I did research on local bars and restaurants. Joe's seemed to be my kind of place and I looked forward to hopefully finding a place where I could become sort of a "regular". I had high hopes for Joe's. What is kind of killing that feeling for me is there is this sign up at the bar that says "No Cussing" or cursing, something like that. At first I thought this had to be a joke, I mean come on it's a drive bar! But as I was talking to some of the "regulars" a couple of them told me that it's just the older woman bartender that enforces that rule so watch it around her but another person told me that they cuss all the time and no one has ever said anything. Now, I'm not saying I HAVE to cuss but seeing that sign while I'm drinking keeps me from relaxing and just leaves me a bit confused. BUT, I am definitely willing to give another try. read more
