Worst fish I have ever tasted, made me vomit, and gave me the runs. The manager's response was "there is nothing she can do, no refund

I was so excited to try Bar Gigi, one of the featured restaurants on Air Canada's latest best new…read morerestaurants list. Bar Gigi is located in an old fish and chip shack, but they had redone the space really nicely. The dark blues and blacks really work for the space. I went with my friend who is a chef, and we sat down to order a number of dishes we had seen pictures of. We got the squash, prawn toast, cabbage, feature pasta, and bone-in pork ribeye. The squash, thinly sliced and fried, was wonderfully sweet, savory, and crunchy. The prawn toast was impeccable; I was really impressed that they managed to use strong ingredients in subtle ways, like the chili oil and yuzu. Everything else fell a bit flat. The concept of the cabbage skewers was excellent, maximizing the char. But it felt like it was smothered in a too-sweet teriyaki sauce. The feature pasta was okay, the combo of the nduja and Gorgonzola made it pretty rich and heavy. There was some lemon to balance it out, but it didn't feel totally cohesive. And the pork ribeye had an excellent cook, but the flavors were not very memorable. With a beer and a cocktail, the total bill came out to about $150. All in all, I would've expected a bit more from a restaurant on such a prestigious list, but I don't regret going.

The space feels upscale and sleek, and I especially loved the bar decor and overall vibe. Our server did an outstanding job recommending items and everything he suggested absolutely delivered. One of the highlights was their Peach Old Fashioned which was easily one of my favorite Old Fashioneds I've had. The Benchmark Angus beef was also top notch, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. What really made the evening memorable was the attention to detail throughout the entire experience from the warm hospitality to the perfectly paced service. It felt like the ideal place to celebrate a special occasion. I would highly recommend Major Tom if you're looking for an unforgettable date night, anniversary dinner or celebration. We'll definitely be back again!

Excellent appetizers. Cavatelli was decent, duck was okay. Sorbet was lacking punch. Eclair had a nice oolong tea flavour
