I have been a patient of Dr. Barrett since 2004. I have gone to him for pain management from sports injury. Three years ago, my husband and I were not having any luck getting pregnant. I had just turned 38 and I was getting concerned if we would need to do IVF. Dr. Barrett recommended I do fertility acupuncture to help us. Dr. John Barrett is amazing. I'm a scientist w/ a PhD and although Im a strong believer in physical therapy.. I have been skeptical of acupuncture in the past.. however- I am now 100% a believer that it can aid in good health. I came to Dr. Barrett out of desperation since I had a crazy hive-like rash on my face and neck that started last May 2017 and then flared up and increased in severity in Fall 2018- Winter 2019. In addition to being itchy and hot, it also decreased my confidence (since it was my face!). I had seen many western doctors, including dermatologists, allergists, and general practitioners. I tried allergy medicines,.. I was tested for many food allergies.. and although I have many allergies to pollens/cats/dogs/etc- my food allergens came up negative. So once I exhausted my western resources.. I turned to Dr. Barrett for help... and indeed it helped! He convinced me that part of my reactions were because I was under severe stress.. and by decreasing my stress levels- my body would be able to react to allergens in a more normal way (yes I would choose itchy eyes or a gentle sneeze every now and then over an intensely red and rash-infested face) Anyhow- Dr. Barrett talked to me about changing my diet (aka not fasting in the mornings... but instead trying to not eat late at night.. which I still need to be better at).. and eating more cooling foods (Yin) since I was very Yang oriented.. I needed to be more balanced. Although I exercise everyday, he suggested that I also incorporate meditation and/or Qi Gong which I have been now doing for the past couple months. He did cupping, needling and prescribed cooling herbs as well as other herbs to help w/ the allergies. 6 months later I am no longer seeing him (due to the fact I got a bit better and a lack of time- his office is 1 hour away from me.. and I am super busy)- but I have been now following all his advice and have drastically improved. My only flare-ups occur when I drink coffee (increases my cortisol levels - aka stress).. so I now alas have to stick to green tea. I am eternally grateful for my former co-worker Lisa. Not only for her solid friendship but for her never disappointing doctor referrals. Dr. Barrett is not just an incredible doctor, but he's also the reason I believe in acupuncture as a healing practice. Over the past four years I've been dealing with an intense arch pain in my left foot. I was all but ready to give up and just deal with the pain for the rest of my life. After the first few appointments I noticed that my foot was beginning to feel better and the tightness and tenderness that I experience in my arch went away for long periods of time. About two months ago I sought out acupuncture to clear chronic facial acne. When I found Dr. John Barrett online I immediately set up a consultation. He took my insurance and his office was quick to reply with paperwork and scheduling. I have done everything to clear my acne from accutane, spironolactone, cutting out foods, supplements, face creams, strict workout regiment, etc. I finally decided to quit all supplementation and medications to bring my body back to baseline, however the acne continued. I get married soon- so I was determined to get my acne clear via holistic health and Traditional Chinese Medicine. My first appointment with Dr. Barrett was extremely detailed. I was grateful to feel supported in my concerns, and relieved that he was confident in his diagnoses and treatment plan. I think the "vibe" of the consult really sealed the deal. I have had mixed experiences with other Acupuncturists, and was pretty skeptical to give it a try again. But getting acupuncture from Dr. Barrett was better than I could have ever imagined. The amount of relief that I experienced from my muscle pain was a hundred times greater than previous acupuncture treatments. I have a moderately herniated disc @ L5/S1. I have already undergone 2 epidural injections to help me with my LBP and Sciatica. Unfortunately they don't last. I went in two days ago for back and neck pain. I am not in pain right now, despite having been in pain continuously for months, so I'm giving this business five stars. I'm sure I'll be in pain again, perhaps sooner than later. I know this is just the nature of an injury; it takes time to heal, and anything I get from an hour-long session is just going to be temporary relief. With that in mind, I'm pleased that part of my diagnosis and treatment included an analysis and nutritional recommendations. So instead of just treating the pain in the short term, I was also given a way to work on the long term healing aspect of these injuries. My experience with the medical community has mostly involved prescription pain killers and anti-inflammatory meds, coupled with the advice that I quit my sport and athletic pursuits and take up recreational walking. My experience with chiropractic care has generally been more positive, but the adjustments, despite usually providing short term relief, also seem to fade quickly, and they occasionally still end with me walking out in more pain than what I was experiencing when I went into the place. So the medical approach has been unproductive and unintelligent, while the chiropractic approach has just made me more dependent on chiropractic care. I'd rather be told to address the problem (not just the symptoms) through long term diet and lifestyle changes. And that's what I got from my trip to Barrett's office, along with two days (so far) of relief from pain. Dr. Barrett is the best acupuncturist I have been a patient of. He starts his treatment with a thorough evaluation of your pulses, diet and tongue. Then he evaluates your diet and makes suggestions that will benefit your health. His use of traditional needles along with electrical stimulation dramatically speeds the healing. In my case a very painful joint pain in my foot was healed after several treatments.
