Not that I need my arm twisted. The dining area was well kept. Clean. The condiments were well stocked and organized. I saw two different team members taking care of business there even asking if I needed anything. Bathrooms were immaculate. Don't see that very often - at least I don't in public places. The food was what we were looking for. Comfort food. With taste, not muted - just good flavor and consistency. A far cry from the bland, dry foods we had experienced the days prior. It was one of the first meals I really enjoyed on this trip to NC. Not saying that others were bad - they just didn't align with my taste preferences/expectations. Something about how Fried Chicken and Pork Chops are prepared in the South (or NOT California). Tender. Juicy. Mac & Cheese - not watery or overcooked. And I don't think I've ever had bad collared greens in my life. It's one of the handful of green vegetables I love having. Almost forgot parking. It's in kinda a plaza/strip mall setting. It was right across the street. 5 people were in line despite a chilly night. A Good sign. The menu was promising as well as the people running the show. A friendly welcoming atmosphere was the start of the Soul! The wait was 8 minutes with, like I said, a crowd in front of us. Friendly chatter ensued. The pork chop was coming out of the frier and I mentioned how amazing it looked. Tony threw in a 'too small to sell' freebee pork chop. 2 words... IT SLAAAAPED! Left no crumbs. The line we sat in to get turkey legs that morning was more than 2 miles long and took over an hour and a half to get through. So I was pretty stoked when I found out that there was a location here in Charlotte. We visited on a Saturday afternoon around 5 PM And initially passed the location and had to U-turn and go back. Just make sure you keep an eye out for the building as I initially thought it was an auto repair shop, but that is actually a business that shares the same parking lot. When we first pulled up, there was a bit of commotion as there seemed to be a person having a bit of a mental health episode, walking around erratically outside. However, the owner was actually sitting outside and immediately greeted us when we pulled up and welcomed us in. This is a very small location and sparsely decorated on the outside, but did have much better aesthetics in the interior. The menu is very straightforward with several options, including the turkey legs, turkey wings, salmon and chicken entrées. Both owners were very friendly and helpful as I made my decision on what to order and the food was ready in about 10 minutes. The legs are a little on the pricey side at $25 a pop but the portion size is definitely enough for two people. And the quality of the food is outstanding! Well seasoned, super tender, and super flavorful. I would describe this as a perfect blend between Texas soul food and Louisiana Creole. This is the kind of business I like to support because they are clearly focused on delivering great food and they are doing it right in the middle of the community. Go support them!
