A+ repair! I took my soon to be wife's antique wedding ring here to replace a lost stone. This silver ring was over 200 years old, and was missing one of the five foil backed garnets. The ring had no material value, but it's age and the fact that this is what I proposed to her with made it very special to us. I made it clear that I didn't want the ring cleaned up or made to look new, and that I simply wanted a replacement foil backed garnet. John Fish Jewelers assured me that they could handle the job, and roughly 10 days later called to say the stone was replaced and it was ready for pickup. The work required a lapidary to custom cut a garnet from a similar color sample, apply the foil backing, and then re-set the new stone in the ring. As promised, the ring looks amazing, and we can't even tell which of the 5 garnets was the replacement. We're so happy with the repair! We even bought a fun and unique piece of estate jewelry from their display case while we were there. We will definitely be back! read more

I took advantage of the opportunity to work with an exceptional jeweler/teacher. The entire staff from the top down was extremely professorial and friendly. Took my antique wedding ring to be repaired after the band snapped off. They called and said yes we can fix it and reinforce so it won't break again. Went to pick up & the had ruined it. They filled in the part of the ring the reinforced, and filled it in poorly. Was dimpled, had holes and was uneven. I took into complain & they told me to talk to the jeweler. He said he would try to make a design in the filled in portion. So I sat & waited while he worked. Came out even worse. He said if I had spoken to him from the beginning he would have explained that it needed a whole new band & that just reinforcing it would be different. They then said it would be x amount to completely take apart & redo the band. I started crying & walked to the door. This small family owned jewelry store buys your unwanted gold jewelry. We were originally going to use the heavily advertised "Cash 4 Gold" place but heard some pretty shady things (horror stories on the news). We went here and were pretty impressed with the professionalism. There was another person selling his gold, so we waited for a few minutes. We wear sterling silver or white gold. We had no use for this stuff that was just hanging around. We were not experiencing any financial hardship at the time. We just wanted to get rid of this jewelry that was of no use to us. The owner of the shop is the gold buyer. He was very nice. He separated the pieces and weighed each piece. (FYI, untangled is better- we had so many tangled chains but I worked on them.) He was very patient. The price was higher for the higher quality yellow gold. It was about 96% of the bag that we took over- that he ended up buying. (The rest was not real, silver, or other jewelry.) He paid us $375 (check) for the lot. We were very happy besides being surprised (we didn't expect much, but then again, we didn't know what the current price is, either, for that matter). He told us that so many people have come over to sell their stuff since the economic downturn, because they're so desperate for money. Others find out that their jewelry (diamond) is fake. So people may think this is weird, but grief makes you do weird things. My Dad passed very unexpectedly and when she was looking for some paperwork, my Mom found one of his wisdom teeth. Dad loved to pull pranks and the wisdom tooth story was a good one, so she was shocked to find it. She searched for a jeweler and called John Fish to see if they could cast his tooth and make it into a memento. Pedro, the jeweler, was totally understanding on the sentimental value and told us about other pieces he had made for those who had lost loved ones. He was patient and kind and even told my Mom he would do his best to preserve the original tooth as best he could through the mold-making process. He made two keychains and two charms out of my Dad's tooth for my Mom, my brothers, and myself. The price was very reasonable and he was able to save the tooth as well.
