I went to the office to get veneers and was nervous to have a cosmetic procedure done but he made it so comfortable. He was very knowledgeable and honest throughout the whole process. I couldn't recommend a better dentist. I first went to Dr. Adomian after having a bad filling at a previous dentist, that was sensitive for months. Dr. Adomian cleaned out the old filling and refilled the tooth and a few days later the pain subsided. Since then, he's thought outside the box to fix my various teeth problems. I have two baby teeth with no adult teeth under them. Several dentists had told me I needed to get root canals otherwise I'd lose the teeth. Instead of putting me through root canals at 25 years old, Dr. Adomian was able to put porcelain crowns on them instead to protect the teeth for as long as possible. Thanks to Dr. Adomian, I haven't had to get a root canal and my baby teeth are still standing 5 years later with no issues. The staff including the hygienist I see are great. We have been going to Dr. Adomian for many, many years-- ever since he bought the practice from Dr. Wallin. He is so skillful and has the most reassuring manner. I value his. honesty. When I had to have an old crown replaced, he told me that the x-ray did not reveal a need for removal, but I was having considerable tooth pain, and he found a soft spot that strongly suggested decay in the crown area. He could have told me the x-ray indicated I must have the crown replaced. He is just a quality human being when it comes to honesty, as well as a top-notch dentist. By the way, the tooth ache went away when he replaced the crown. Also, his needle sticks are about as painless as you're ever going to get with a dentist! When Marilyn, the long-time receptionist, left, front office efficiency went down a bit, but they are coming up to speed, and do try hard. Marilyn was just a tough act to follow. They do everything they can to get you in quickly if there is an emergency. read more

This is the dentist office that got me to go to the dentist after not going to the dentist for at least five years. I was mortified and traumatized by past experiences, but I decided to give Dr. Adomian's office a shot after hearing recommendations from my coworkers. I can't say enough good things. He staffs exceptional women in his office and they have ALL been attentive, sensitive, and professional- complete opposite of dentists past who caused great pain and embarrassment for me. My preferred dental hygienist was not available and the receptionist said to me Patti had a family emergency with her mother. I spoke with Patti after that to find out about her mother, Patti said, "I went on vacation and my mother is fine." I'm not sure why the receptionist had to lie about that. On a separate occasion I had to cancel my appointment at the last minute to reschedule for the next day. They wanted to charge me $75 for the cancelation and $75 for the next day's appointment. $150 for a cleaning when I drive an hour in traffic each way and I pay out of pocket. Me? Giving 5 stars to a dentist? I've shocked myself! So those of you who know me in real life know that I am the. worst. dental. patient. ever. And I read all these yelp reviews of dentists where everyone's all "I'm such an anti-dentite but I love going to Dr. So-and-so." No, I'm pretty sure I've got you beat. I cry at dental cleanings. I cry getting check-ups. And my teeth aren't *that bad* that I'm a cash cow for a dentist. So basically, they have to put up with my debilitating phobia for no good reason. Anyways, I got a referral to Dr. Adomian from one of my colleagues. He's located on the swanky Montana strip, right by Roosevelt Elementary. There's on-street metered parking and free parking on a lot of the side streets, though I usually take the bus because of my anxiety. The waiting area feels more like a little house with laminate floors and some of the charm you see in older Santa Monica buildings. And it doesn't smell like a dentist's office which is always a plus. The exam rooms are separate from one another though don't have doors. Everything is really clean, but not super-high tech like those dental spas where you're catching up on the latest sitcoms while simultaneously getting a foot massage. In "Goldilocks and the Three Little Bears" land, everything is "just right." Not unmodern or unclean where you'd doubt yourself for letting someone stick sharp pointy things in your mouth, but also not uber-high-tech where you think it's all just smoke and mirrors. Just, comfortable. Or as comfortable as you can be when you've already taken a valium to go for a cleaning and your heart is racing and tears are running down your face. I told you I'm a dental-phobe. Dr. Adomian is really nice and though I'm not an expert on dentists I do believe that he's a very competent one. He doesn't beat around the bush with what's needed to appease an (insanely nervous) patient, but also goes out of his way to avoid unnecessary treatments. He took his time with me despite being a total wuss over minor stuff, and his assistants followed suit. I didn't feel any pain or discomfort (that wasn't self-inflicted), and he calls you in the evening after you've gotten a filling to make sure everything's okay. Does your dentist do that? In addition to Dr. Adomian, the other staff is really stellar. I've had my teeth cleaned by Christina, who really should consider a career as a standup comedian. She did a really thorough job, again took her time with a really bad patient, and had me laughing and smiling by the time I left. Marilyn, who is the receptionist/admin is very helpful and straightforward with everything from scheduling to billing. What's even better is that she promptly replies to e-mails which is great when you don't have time to call during the day. The staff all really cares about both doing a great job and working well with even their worst patients. Maybe I'll evolve into a slightly better patient. Who knows? You may think from the swanky address that this is one expensive DDS. While I do have dental insurance which covers most of the costs, what I do pay is in-line or less than many of my colleagues who go to other dentists. Additionally, I keep hearing that dentists in LA will try to gauge you for money - recommending veneers, extra crowns, etc. They don't do that here. In fact, I was told point-blank here not to get my teeth whitened because of the anatomy of my teeth (long story) and while even my mom (a former dentist) has mentioned the possibility of veneers, here I got more of the "if you don't need them, why go to the expense?" Also, while some dentists in town like to put down the work of others, Dr. Adomian is always very positive and never talks trash. That's class for you. While I still can't say that I don't get dental anxiety, I am very happy to have Dr. Adomian as my dentist and his staff for all of the cleanings and what not. I've had only positive experiences with them and really appreciate all that they've done to make my dental visits as pleasant as possible. The only slight inconvenience is that they don't have many night/weekend openings (they're open for cleanings only 1 Saturday morning each month, and stay open until ~6 on Thursdays) though they open at 7:30am. This is fine for me, since I work in Santa Monica but my husband works in downtown so the scheduling is a little tricky. But, trust the dental-baby here, it's worth that slight inconvenience. read more

Wow. Came here via recommendation after being without a cleaning for 7 years for lack of dental insurance. 1) Making the appointment: I called, marilyn the receptionist was pleasant and the next available was within 3 weeks. I was told right away that the appointment would take 2 hours. 2) Clarifying my health insurance benefits: I called a couple days before my appointment. I had to give Marilyn my insurance plan, group, and ID number. She called me back the same day to let me know my benefits. (phew! exam, xrays, cleaning all covered :D) 3) The appointment: Office was clean and modern. Filled out some paperwork, and soon after I was taken inside. The staff has AWESOME bedside manner. ernesto the dental assistant, Dr. Adomian, Sheila the hygienist.. they ALL explained to me what procedure they were about to do, why they do it, and what discomfort it might impart; and built genuine rapport that didnt feel forced, cold or artificial 4) Dr. Adomian: He's great. Never had I visited a dentist that explained and educated me to the extent he did. From conducting a soft tissue exam, to measuring the gum pits so that the hygienist knew how far to clean, to examining the wear on the teeth due to teeth grinding/TMJ, to showing me my xrays. He even told me the cost of a mouth guard he recommended and that Marilyn would look up whether it was covered by my insurance or not. In the end it was not, so i left the office without it. But not once during my visit did I feel judged or pressured as though I was with a used car salesman. The only drawback is that there is no parking lot for patients. However there is metered street parking on Montana. Not to mention 2 hour residential parking. However, I found my dentist and will be coming back despite that. Overall, the staff is thorough, honest, experienced, and straightforward, and sincere. And i got out of there in 2 hours, exactly as Marilyn had said. I highly recommend. read more

I broke a tooth on Father's Day (2010) and called Dr Adomian on his cell phone. As I wasn't in pain he said to come in on Monday and he would take care of it. I live in Thousand Oaks... over the course of the hour it took me to drive to his office in Santa Monica I thought of the dreadful experience I'd face. The glop he'd put in my mouth to make a mold to produce the cap, the novocaine, the drilling, the temporary cap, then the return visit a week later, etc. Instead, Dr Adomian's staff took a digital X-ray, which was immediately put up on a computer monitor in front of me and then Dr Adomian came to to begin the process which included the use of 3D imagining. Dr Adomian himself crafted the cap, again on a computer that was right next to me, and produced the final cap in his office. In other words... not gloppy mold, no temporary cap, no return visit (there was still the novocaine and drilling)... and in 90 minutes I was finished and out the door (I am a geek... the 90 minutes didn't include the extra 15 minutes Dr Adomian spent with me discussing the technology and showing me how they took the 3D data and produced the cap in a machine in his office that is no bigger than a microwave oven). The best part... I was expecting pain that night... nothing, nada, zip. If you are like me and hate going to the dentist I highly recommend giving Dr Adomian a call. I found John Adomian when my hygienist, Kristina Esposito, took a position at his office. Knowing Kristina Esposito ONLY works for the top dentists, it was a no brainer to follow her there. Dr. Adomian is an excellent dentist. What I truly like about him is his soft spoken, straight forward manner. He talks you out of things you don't need rather than just give you what you want for the sake of making the money. He is truly an amazing dentist who has saved me a lot of money by having the ability to fix teeth without putting me through unnecessary dental work. I have been in dentistry since 1986. I started in dentistry as a dental assistant, then became an office manager and since 1994 I have been practicing dental hygiene. I have worked overseas, and on both coasts with numerous offices and staff and bar none Dr. Adomian ranks the highest on numerous levels. I have never worked in a friendlier, more efficient office. The staff is knowledgeable, professional, caring, patient and friendly. The staff really are family, they are happy and highly likable. The office atmosphere is welcoming. The cosmetic dentistry is exceptional, he has transformed many smiles. The office uses state of the art equipment/technology. The most succinct way to sum up Dr. Adomian is to state that he is conservative without being remiss and proactive without " selling". I needed to find a Santa Monica dentist and based on my insurance and Yelp reviews, I went with Dr. Adomian. I had a really amazing dentist where I grew up on the east coast, and I just assumed that I wouldn't be able to find another dentist that I liked nearly as much. I'd tried other LA dentists that I hadn't really liked. But my check-ups here are just really pleasant experiences. Dr. Adomian is great, and the dental hygienist I usually see is also fantastic. I've been really pleased with all my experiences here. (I will add as a disclaimer, though, that I am a fairly low-maintenance dental patient. I haven't had any dental work beyond cleanings since a cavity in high school, so I can't speak to their more intensive dental work like root canals or crowns and such.) read more
