Chefs Vegetables with pool of butter

What a strange little restaurant this place is. Located inside of holiday fall naturally this place was insanely busy during fall fest. About an hour wait for our large group. Not to bad it's alright we hung out in the Cabana and played some of the outdoor games. When we arrived we where seated next to a group of clearly insanely drunk frat boys one with a vape IN HIS MOUTH. In our group we had two children and a baby. Our server was extremely pushy in recommending food and drinks and seemed annoyed with us the entire time. We then began the waiting game for about half an hour still listening to the drunk profanity ridden college students. We order apps but our mains came out first. Strange. I had the BBQ chicken with the sides of chefs vegetables and fries. The chicken was cooked nicely on one half but was burnt on the other. The vegetables with slathered in the butter to the point where it pooled in the bottom (see photo). Those who got pizzas seemed disappointed and the pizzas looked burnt. Salads remained mostly untouched. The drink of the day our server recommended also left nearly untouched. As for the Apps it seems like people liked the Nachos. The charcuterie board however was sad. 25 dollars for some deli pepperoni and salami, a tiny blob of goat cheese, burnt bread, random crushed nuts and a disgusting jam. I've had much better charcuterie boards for cheaper. If you are in holiday valley this may be the only sit down restaurant. Still I recommend taking the drive into the town for a bite to eat.

I loved everything about this burger. It was cooked to perfection, the Gouda cheese was out of this world, the bun was the perfect softness and it simply tasted amazing. Even the fries were pretty close to being the best I've ever had. We stayed the night at the Tamarack Club for my fiancé's birthday, and decided to just grab dinner in the hotel restaurant instead of venturing into the town. What a great decision because the food was so delicious. We got calamari as an appetizer. I usually just pick at a few pieces, but this time I couldn't stop eating it. If you are in Ellicottville and are looking for a great dinner, this is the place to be!

Great location with scenic view but somewhat pricey for what we ordered. $13 for basic hamburger with $2 extra if you want fries instead of the cardboard chips seems high to me. It was very good but not that good. On the other hand the Pasta Primavera was superb well worth the $15 but $6 more for added shrimp that were hard to find may not be worth it Still - we would come back since decent food and decor but service was impersonal making us feel why bother

We visiting John Harvard's while staying at Holiday Valley. We were hoping for a brew house atmosphere and good food. The scenery was nice as we could watch skier come down the slopes. The atmosphere was that of your typical hotel restaurant. Nothing to exciting or "brew house" about it. They started off our visit with mini cups of hot chocolate which was luke warm with too much whipped cream but tasty. I got a cocktail ( I can't remember what it was called) made with Kahlúa, peppermint schnapps and cream. It was good but not thrilling. They also brought out a bread basket with our drink order. The bread seemed stale but had some good flavor. We ordered the Bavarian pretzels to start our meal off. They we got fresh and ever so tasty. They weren't overly salty or oily and the dipping sauces were great. My fiancé ordered the Chickalo wrap (basically a buffalo chicken wrap) and thoroughly enjoyed it. The kettle chips that accompanied it were okay but might have been better warm. I got the fish and chips which can more accurately be described as a fish fry. The fish was hot and tasty and batter was crispy. My fries however were somewhere better luke warm and cold. They might have been good if they were hot. It came with "creamy" coleslaw however there was nothing creamy about it. It seemed a bit pricey for luke warm food and so-so cocktails.

After a long morning of skiing at Holiday Valley, came to John Harvard's for lunch before going back in the snow. The restaurant follows the theme of the hotels, very rustic. We were sat right away and were greeted with a small cup of hot cocoa with whipped cream on top, I was pleasantly surprised. Who doesn't love hot cocoa?! The view is beautiful, you can see the slopes from there. My boyfriend and I didn't want to eat too much because we were going to skii again right after, so we ordered a fillet mignon and a house salad. Which they kindly split into two plates without us asking, I thought that was great! The fillet mignon came with a mushroom risotto dried patty? Not sure what they call it, which was good, but the fillet mignon wasn't as tender as I expected, which made me question the quality of it. And the vegetables it came with was just ok. All in all I'd say this is a solid 3 star restaurant. The service was great and so was the view, but the food could be better.

Well the location and weather merited 5 stars! Beautiful enough spring day to sit on the patio and they are dog friendly, a big plus for us. Husband had the southwest chicken sandwich, couldn't really screw that up. Large portion, big portion of fries too. I was undecided . Normally go for lighter fare. There was a nice choice of salads, burgers and sandwiches . I chose a Mediterranean platter appetizer . It was not what I was expecting . Not kalamata olives. These were from a can. Feta cheese would have been better in slices not crumbles and. the tabbouleh? Not. Needed more parsley, cucumber, olive oil and lemon juice. Really nice idea but not executed well . Almost like the kitchen said " oh crap, someone ordered that? What do we have around to create that?" Hostess was very nice and accommodating. Server was not into her job at all Will give it another try

    I didn't have a sip!

Things have gone down here! Bartender was not good. Claimed the head on the beer was due to the size of the glass. At $8.00 a beer I don't want excuses. Pizza was under cooked.

    Pasta Primavera

Spent the weekend at Holiday for a girls trip. We wanted to have a nice dinner, bottle of wine, etc and this seemed like a good place to go since we didn't want to drive into town. We were not offered the bread and oil that literally every other table around us was getting and we weren't told the specials. We ended up ordering the pasta primavera because of a photo from a yelp review it looked amazing. We also ordered the Sea Bass ($28) and the filet. The pasta primavera came out and it was sooooo disappointing. It was essentially wet oily noodles with a couple veggies. The Sea Bass came out and looked like a kids portion. This was the most disappointing meal. (Photo of sea bass I had taken only three small bites).

The owner is present almost all the time tending to things and checking in on tables. I have never ever had a bad meal here. Like not ever. Not even a mediocre meal. Always rates very good to great. From the steaks. To the seafood, to the Italian specialties.....just tops. It is hard to get into during the ski season, and not too easy even off season, so please do plan and make a reservation. If you can snag a booth, that is the best. The bar is a great place to come for a drink with a friend or to watch a sporting event. My most recent visit to the restaurant was this past Friday, a nice night in early May. We met some friends here for dinner. We had two appetizers of stuffed peppers which are absolutely amazing with just the right amount of heat, and the Nona's Meatball with gooey rich ricotta cheese.....yum yum. My husband ordered a house salad, which was crisp and delicious. For entrees, our companion couple ordered the twin filets and the fish fry. Both were reported to be fantastic. My husband ordered the Chicken Parmesan and I ordered the Chicken Milanese. Absolutely excellent. For dessert, both couples shared their own order of Tiramisu. I ordered an Espresso and that simply rounded out an amazing dinner. I really can't recommend this place enough.

It's an italian based restaurant that offers bread with olive oil and seasonings to start. We didn't realize that and also got cheesy bread which comes with a red sausce. Both were delicious. For entrees I ordered bucatini carbonara with chicken and my wife ordered the filleto's. Pricing was reasonable in the $20-$30 range per peson. We enjoyed the visit and had a great time!

I went here today with my kids and some friends and their kids (ages 6 to 8 months). It being a Sunday at 1ish, we figured we'd miss the lunch rush and be able to cruise in and out. Somewhat surprisingly, it was pretty much full (which isn't a bad thing), but we got lucky and were able to sit within about 10 minutes. The place is quite fun with walled-off bar and table areas that adjoin at the front with an open space and the small music stage. The decor was cool with rough cut wood everywhere and TVs playing the Olympics (go US curling team!). And even though it was really busy, it wasn't all that loud given the number of people. Once we got seated though is where things started going off the rails a bit. It took a little bit for our server to come see us and then even more time to take our orders. The whole time she seemed either disinterested or distracted and certainly in a rush. I also got that same kind of vibe from the other servers I saw bouncing around too. In any event, we got our orders in and then it took them quite a while to come out as well even though we didn't get anything really special - pot roast poutine and side salad for me, cheeseburger and fries for my son, pizza with black olives for my daughter, and then our friends got chicken fingers and fries and I think maybe another cheeseburger or something. All in all, I think we ended up being there around an hour and a half through no fault of our own. For a beverage, I ordered myself an espresso martini. Now, mind you when I asked for a cocktail menu, they had none. They also "only" had 3 or 4 kinds of gin, to which our server told us that's not actually what it's called the "Gin" Mill for (not sure if that was sarcasm or serious). Either way, not really what I was expecting but oh well. It is a pub after all. On the flip side of that, I saw what looked like some really excellent looking cocktails being served up at the bar. Seems like a missed opportunity to me. On the food side, my side salad was pretty basic - lettuce, green pepper, tomato, and onion. I asked for balsamic and ended up getting two ranch. Oh well, I still like ranch. The pot roast poutine was absolutely epic though. Is it trying to actively kill me? Of course it is with all that fatty meat, greasy fries, and gravy. Aren't I allowed to splurge for the sake of you readers out there though? The roast was melt in your mouth tender and some big chunks of it to boot. I brought about 3/4 home and it made excellent leftovers for dinner too! The pizza was solid with a good cheese to sauce ratio, a nice, fluffy crust, and good overall taste and texture. I got a bite of my son's (plain) cheeseburger and it was also quite good with quality-looking bun and some really nice sear marks on the burger. The fries weren't my favorite with the sort of weird crunchy texture-style that like a Burger King has, but that's really just my personal preference. At around 230 is when the band started playing, which was an older couple playing some country tunes. My kids decided to go out and dance for a couple minutes, which the musicians seemed to get a kick out of. It was tough to make out the words she was singing, but it was a fun vibe regardless and it wasn't obnoxiously loud either. All in all (and cheating looking at some of the other reviews), it seems like this place has some front-of-house issues that need addressing but their food and drink are pretty solid. Since there's not a ton of food choices in town, I'd consider going again, but with EBC and others in walking distance, I guess there's not really any compelling reason that I should when I only make it down this way a couple times a year.

They were your run-of-the-mill frozen poppers; nothing special. The Stuffed Banana Peppers were a special for the day and they were pretty delicious. They were cheesy, stuffed with sausage and topped with a delicious tomato red sauce. The Chicken Wings were well done, as we requested but were average which was a surprise considering all of the claims to be award winning. The Gluten Free Sesame Bun was one of the best GF buns I've had but the burger patties were average. The meat didn't seem like it was seasoned but the cheese and grilled onions helped add some flavor. Not worth $15.95, in my opinion especially because you have to pay $1.50 each for any additional toppings and it only comes with generic potato chips. The Hamburg Carrot Cake Brown Ale was listed on the draft beer list but was served in a can. Our server was attentive and had a kind/sweet personality. Here's a few highlights about the space: - Pool Table - Golden Tee Golf Video Game - Hockey Foosball Table Game - Old Arcade Video Game - 8+ TVs; I believe they're usually tuned into sports. - Music was really loud; it was somewhat difficult to hear our server. Overall, I would come here again when visiting Ellicottville and try other menu items - like the Gluten Free Pizza and whatever their daily special happens to be.

It's definitely got a polished casual, wine bar sort of vibe to it so you can pretty much dress however you want. It's not the normal sort of place you'd go to for breakfast necessarily, but it was open and my friends swore by it. My kids got hot chocolates and the adults all got Irish coffees. The hot chocolates were decadent and delicious without being scorching hot. PERFECT for the kids! My friends loved their Irish coffees as their typical go-to. I like my coffee a bit on the sweeter/creamier side and this wasn't really it with a bit of that coffee bitterness still coming through that was a bit of a turnoff for me. That's just me and my personal taste though, so take it with a grain of salt. My kids shared a French toast with blueberries (no kids menu available, it seems) and it was HUGE. They will usually pound an adult portion of anything between the two of them and even this was too much. There were 2 extra thick slices to start and there was easily a half slice left, enough to fill a small to-go box up pretty solid. I got the burrito which came topped with salsa (ranchero) and cheddar cheese plus a side of shredded hash browns. The hash browns were half crispy and half limp but still quite tasty. The burrito itself was a good size though not enormous. While nothing mind blowing, especially for the $19 price tag, it was a solid meal overall. One of my friends got the lobster eggs benedict special and said it was life-changing. It was $24 and came with a massive hunk of lobster meat. For a $3 charge over the standard benedict, that's a steal and smartly priced for a good heaping of lobster. Getting the food out seemed to take a little bit of time, but the server was good about checking in on us throughout and the other staff we spoke to were also very friendly. Overall, a solid experience. Definitely paying a little bit extra for the ambience and ski resort town, but I'd still come back to check out the lunch and dinner offerings for sure!
