The ambience is relaxed, cozy but with a modern twist that feels inviting. Our waiter was Michael who was delightful to be around as was the staff at West Rose. We were celebrating our 3 year wedding anniversary and felt genuinely welcomed. We ordered the special pizza which was incredible, I've never had such a unique pizza before but it was familiar enough to still throughly enjoy. My wife got the double cheeseburger and I got the New York strip steak, both of our meals were spectacular although I think the favorite of the two was the steak cause my wife kept taking bites of it . I don't remember what drinks we ordered but they were so tasty, well balanced with a good punch. West Rose is a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or to just meet a friend for a cocktail. The food is amazing here, of all the places in the region few have ever inspired me enough to leave a review and this place definitely deserves all the praise it gets.

The Scarlet Vetter says.....this remains a favorite in this quaint little town. Cool vibe, excellent food, pleasant servers. What is there not to like? And the Pizza is the very best I have had. Great place. You will not be disappointed!

We went back again during the winter ski season. It's a hard reservation to get so plan days ahead. We sat at the chefs counter again and enjoyed all the entertainment. My son tried to get one of their brick fired pizzas but they were sold out. The entire family went with their smash burger and it was sooooo good! It comes with a small salad and some pickled vegetables or you can substitute fries. My wife said "I'd drive the 3 hours just for this place" and I agree.

Great ambience inside. We both really liked our entrée. The smoked chicken (it might have had a different name on the menu) was really tasty and had an incredible smoked flavor. If you're not a fan of the smoky flavor, you might not like it. The only thing I would've preferred would be if it wasn't covered in so much and I could pick it up and eat it with my hands. Double cheeseburger with the side salad was great. I thought the prices were very reasonable for the location. Service was quick and polite.

Incredible. First: they had a nice clean high chair and there was only street parking. The ambiance was upscale, bright and open. Every member of the staff was well dressed and extremely friendly. The food arrived quickly and it was exceptional. I have no complaints at all about the food, and that's saying something. Fresh squeezed orange juice, crusted Nutella bread pudding, salted maple pancakes, scrambled eggs, and a breakfast sandwich. Everything tasted as though they made it from scratch, and I know even their hot sauce was house-made. The portions were generous and the price was great for the value. I would 100% come back next time we're in Ellicottville.

Food was exceptional; service very good as well. Went for the smash burger and the mushroom pizza. Coming back to try the steak and frittes as well as the clans. Great dessert collection. Ambiance very trendy.

The hubs and I had tried to dine here last year during our trip down to xc ski at Allegany, but West Rose was closed at that time, so this time around we made sure to double check hours and make a reservation. They have limited hours, Thursdays through Sundays, and close at 8 pm. We made a reservation for 6:30 pm, but got lost skiing the trails at Art Roscoe in Allegany State Park, and extended til 7 and again til 7:15. We cut it a little close but we made it! We walked in to a very chill atmosphere: few folks dining at the bar, pizza oven blazing in the open kitchen like a fireplace, several tables for two set, waiting for patrons, and a really cozy decor with lots of wood accents, plants, and white and neutral tones. The hostess was ready for us and sat us immediately, and when we announced to our lovely server that we were STARVING after 2.5 hrs xc skiing over at Allegany, she told us she would let the kitchen know. Not expecting too much, I settled in to wait with my phone, and the hubs went outside for a cig. And miraculously, within 10 min our food arrived!! We ordered the double cheeseburger, which comes with a dressed side salad; the burger was on a soft sesame-seed bun, with minimal condiments and a couple small gherkin-sized dill pickles. It was large, so we asked for a second small plate so we could cut it in half to share. It was cooked perfectly, the meat very well seasoned and the perfect temp - the fact that it was 'plain' (just cheese, no mayo or ketchup, no sliced tomato or onion) didn't matter because it was that juicy and flavorful. We also got the patatas bravas and the shaved brussels sprouts salad. The patatas bravas were prepared really nicely: crispy outside and soft inside, generously seasoned and served with a creamy vegan aioli. But the shaved brussels sprouts were the star of the show! Sitting atop a pillow of cashew butter, then topped with pomegranate seeds and a drizzel of sesame oil, this vegan salad was tender, fragrant, flowery, savory - all the things!! It also perfectly complimented the burger and patatas! Because we shared everything we still had room for dessert. I've been following their Instagram and saw this chocolate concoction that looked absolutely decadent, so we ordered that. It was a chocolate, hazelnut, caramel tart, with almond butter and a smear of chocolate ganache - it was rich but also light, perfect for sharing, and the kind of special treat that really caps off a simple but delicious meal. We live in Rochester and don't make it down here often, but I would drive 2 hrs one way just for another meal like that! If you are in town, definitely plan a dinner here at least one night, and leave room for dessert!

Had such an amazing brunch here last weekend with a group of friends! It was our last day of our visit to Ellicottville and it was a great send-off to a fun weekend. West Rose is centrally located in the town center and feels vibrant and new, compared to the other dining options in the area. The interior is beautiful - you're immediately greeted by a modern bar area and bright, open decor. The downstairs seated dining area is cozy but does not feel crowded. We were seated on the second floor, which was bright and airy with big tall windows looking out at the mountains. The brunch menu is compact but diverse - options ranging from pancakes to a hot honey chicken and grits to breakfast pizza, with many things in-between. I ordered an iced coffee and the patatas bravas (also ordered by two friends) with a poached egg and a side of bacon. The coffee was excellent, and the meal itself was flavorful and generously portioned. A friend ordered the breakfast pizza which could have easily fed two, and my husband and another friend ordered the aforementioned chicken and grits. Everything was fresh and presented beautifully. The food also arrived relatively quickly, I don't think we waited more than 30 minutes for our dishes to come to our table. I wholeheartedly recommend West Rose for brunch, and I'm certain that dinner would be fantastic as well. If I find myself back in EVL, I will definitely be sure to visit again!

Such a vibe in here. Hard wood floors, you can see them cooking the food behind the counter! Huge pizza oven. Everything on the menu is unique and the food we ordered was very tasty. Great service!

We also got coffee but refills were hard to come by. Our server was working hard, so I don't blame him, but the place was just too chaotic. Since this is a tourist destination with frequent surges in population these issues shouldn't exist. Your sit down breakfast options in town are limited so give it a try!

It's definitely got a polished casual, wine bar sort of vibe to it so you can pretty much dress however you want. It's not the normal sort of place you'd go to for breakfast necessarily, but it was open and my friends swore by it. My kids got hot chocolates and the adults all got Irish coffees. The hot chocolates were decadent and delicious without being scorching hot. PERFECT for the kids! My friends loved their Irish coffees as their typical go-to. I like my coffee a bit on the sweeter/creamier side and this wasn't really it with a bit of that coffee bitterness still coming through that was a bit of a turnoff for me. That's just me and my personal taste though, so take it with a grain of salt. My kids shared a French toast with blueberries (no kids menu available, it seems) and it was HUGE. They will usually pound an adult portion of anything between the two of them and even this was too much. There were 2 extra thick slices to start and there was easily a half slice left, enough to fill a small to-go box up pretty solid. I got the burrito which came topped with salsa (ranchero) and cheddar cheese plus a side of shredded hash browns. The hash browns were half crispy and half limp but still quite tasty. The burrito itself was a good size though not enormous. While nothing mind blowing, especially for the $19 price tag, it was a solid meal overall. One of my friends got the lobster eggs benedict special and said it was life-changing. It was $24 and came with a massive hunk of lobster meat. For a $3 charge over the standard benedict, that's a steal and smartly priced for a good heaping of lobster. Getting the food out seemed to take a little bit of time, but the server was good about checking in on us throughout and the other staff we spoke to were also very friendly. Overall, a solid experience. Definitely paying a little bit extra for the ambience and ski resort town, but I'd still come back to check out the lunch and dinner offerings for sure!

I went here today with my kids and some friends and their kids (ages 6 to 8 months). It being a Sunday at 1ish, we figured we'd miss the lunch rush and be able to cruise in and out. Somewhat surprisingly, it was pretty much full (which isn't a bad thing), but we got lucky and were able to sit within about 10 minutes. The place is quite fun with walled-off bar and table areas that adjoin at the front with an open space and the small music stage. The decor was cool with rough cut wood everywhere and TVs playing the Olympics (go US curling team!). And even though it was really busy, it wasn't all that loud given the number of people. Once we got seated though is where things started going off the rails a bit. It took a little bit for our server to come see us and then even more time to take our orders. The whole time she seemed either disinterested or distracted and certainly in a rush. I also got that same kind of vibe from the other servers I saw bouncing around too. In any event, we got our orders in and then it took them quite a while to come out as well even though we didn't get anything really special - pot roast poutine and side salad for me, cheeseburger and fries for my son, pizza with black olives for my daughter, and then our friends got chicken fingers and fries and I think maybe another cheeseburger or something. All in all, I think we ended up being there around an hour and a half through no fault of our own. For a beverage, I ordered myself an espresso martini. Now, mind you when I asked for a cocktail menu, they had none. They also "only" had 3 or 4 kinds of gin, to which our server told us that's not actually what it's called the "Gin" Mill for (not sure if that was sarcasm or serious). Either way, not really what I was expecting but oh well. It is a pub after all. On the flip side of that, I saw what looked like some really excellent looking cocktails being served up at the bar. Seems like a missed opportunity to me. On the food side, my side salad was pretty basic - lettuce, green pepper, tomato, and onion. I asked for balsamic and ended up getting two ranch. Oh well, I still like ranch. The pot roast poutine was absolutely epic though. Is it trying to actively kill me? Of course it is with all that fatty meat, greasy fries, and gravy. Aren't I allowed to splurge for the sake of you readers out there though? The roast was melt in your mouth tender and some big chunks of it to boot. I brought about 3/4 home and it made excellent leftovers for dinner too! The pizza was solid with a good cheese to sauce ratio, a nice, fluffy crust, and good overall taste and texture. I got a bite of my son's (plain) cheeseburger and it was also quite good with quality-looking bun and some really nice sear marks on the burger. The fries weren't my favorite with the sort of weird crunchy texture-style that like a Burger King has, but that's really just my personal preference. At around 230 is when the band started playing, which was an older couple playing some country tunes. My kids decided to go out and dance for a couple minutes, which the musicians seemed to get a kick out of. It was tough to make out the words she was singing, but it was a fun vibe regardless and it wasn't obnoxiously loud either. All in all (and cheating looking at some of the other reviews), it seems like this place has some front-of-house issues that need addressing but their food and drink are pretty solid. Since there's not a ton of food choices in town, I'd consider going again, but with EBC and others in walking distance, I guess there's not really any compelling reason that I should when I only make it down this way a couple times a year.

However, from the moment we sat down, it felt like our presence was an inconvenience. We waited about 15 minutes before placing our order, and when we did, our waitress rolled her eyes and made us feel uncomfortable for ordering. We ordered Cajun wings and were never told there would be an additional $6 charge for the seasoning. Then, at 9:48 p.m., she came to our table and simply said, "My shift is ending, so I'm closing you out," without asking if we needed anything else or even offering a polite goodbye. Throughout our visit, we also noticed her spending time sitting with and hugging a man instead of checking on her tables. The food itself was fantastic, and we still left a $25 tip on a $74 bill because we believe in tipping for the kitchen staff and the service industry. That said, the service was disappointing and came across as very unprofessional. We understand arriving close to closing isn't ideal, but customers should still be treated with courtesy.

They were your run-of-the-mill frozen poppers; nothing special. The Stuffed Banana Peppers were a special for the day and they were pretty delicious. They were cheesy, stuffed with sausage and topped with a delicious tomato red sauce. The Chicken Wings were well done, as we requested but were average which was a surprise considering all of the claims to be award winning. The Gluten Free Sesame Bun was one of the best GF buns I've had but the burger patties were average. The meat didn't seem like it was seasoned but the cheese and grilled onions helped add some flavor. Not worth $15.95, in my opinion especially because you have to pay $1.50 each for any additional toppings and it only comes with generic potato chips. The Hamburg Carrot Cake Brown Ale was listed on the draft beer list but was served in a can. Our server was attentive and had a kind/sweet personality. Here's a few highlights about the space: - Pool Table - Golden Tee Golf Video Game - Hockey Foosball Table Game - Old Arcade Video Game - 8+ TVs; I believe they're usually tuned into sports. - Music was really loud; it was somewhat difficult to hear our server. After several other parties arrived and asked to be put on the list, they were seated well before us. I decided not to eat any food because if they can't follow a list to sit people correctly than they probably can't cook food properly either. Place is cramped but cozy. I won't be back. We all ordered pancakes; some also ordered a couple of fried eggs for a couple of bucks more. The first plate was three pancakes for each of us. The waitresses pay attention and when most of the people at the table are on their last pancake, a serving plate piled high with more pancakes is brought to the table. There does not seem to be a limit in the number of "refill" serving platters brought out. Today, for the nine of us, there were only 2 refill platters. Of course, the point of dining here vs. a pancake chain restaurant, is the maple syrup which comes from the trees on the land connected to this restaurant. Moore's is only open during the maple tree tapping season. This year it is only late February to April 12th. Maple syrup aficionados have to wait a year to return for this pancake breakfast.
