The owner is present almost all the time tending to things and checking in on tables. I have never ever had a bad meal here. Like not ever. Not even a mediocre meal. Always rates very good to great. From the steaks. To the seafood, to the Italian specialties.....just tops. It is hard to get into during the ski season, and not too easy even off season, so please do plan and make a reservation. If you can snag a booth, that is the best. The bar is a great place to come for a drink with a friend or to watch a sporting event. My most recent visit to the restaurant was this past Friday, a nice night in early May. We met some friends here for dinner. We had two appetizers of stuffed peppers which are absolutely amazing with just the right amount of heat, and the Nona's Meatball with gooey rich ricotta cheese.....yum yum. My husband ordered a house salad, which was crisp and delicious. For entrees, our companion couple ordered the twin filets and the fish fry. Both were reported to be fantastic. My husband ordered the Chicken Parmesan and I ordered the Chicken Milanese. Absolutely excellent. For dessert, both couples shared their own order of Tiramisu. I ordered an Espresso and that simply rounded out an amazing dinner. I really can't recommend this place enough. read more

We visited Villagio's on the 4th of July during "battle of the bands". It was a party and people were having a great time so we were happy to join in. Service was great and super friendly and we were seated immediately around dinner time. Since it was the "battle" it was loud inside but we didn't mind. Villagio's lies on the sidestreet in what looks like an old barn. It has a unique rustic charm that we enjoyed. It's an italian based restaurant that offers bread with olive oil and seasonings to start. We didn't realize that and also got cheesy bread which comes with a red sausce. Both were delicious. For entrees I ordered bucatini carbonara with chicken and my wife ordered the filleto's. Pricing was reasonable in the $20-$30 range per peson. We enjoyed the visit and had a great time! read more

Fantastic. They were busy and we did not have a reservation. I was worried about getting a table. They were very accommodating and we were promptly seated up stairs. Good find! We went on a whim to Ellicotville, forgetting it was Friday. We got there and the two restaurants we knew about were booked solid. So we grabbed some seats at the bar here. We were a little worried bc it looked more like a shabby chic bar. Nothing wrong with the look but we wanted a really nice dinner, so we were worried. But we ended up with a really great dinner! The cocktails were fine but if you're picky, stick to the basics. We started with the sprouts. Not gonna lie, they were almost as good as my favorite sprouts from Uchiko. Who knew blue cheese and sprouts were such a winning combo! We also for the fileto. Perfect! Nice peppercorn crust with mid rare inside. The gravy is usually not my thing but we soped up every bit. I had the surf and turf- which translated into a 4oz filet (covered in sauce) and 5 breaded and fried(?) shrimp in a garlic sauce, which were boring and dry. My friend had the sunday sauce spaghetti which was tasty but the giant meatball was dry. I really wanted it to be a nice evening, but I was disappointed this time. It didn't help that the table next to me had four drunk 50+ year old women, acting like they were at a strip club by dancing on the balcony and sitting on male diners laps... but i digress. The bread and olive oil were very good, the caesar salad was good, but the entree I had, chicken lasagne, was too heavy: there was too much cheese sauce flooding the lasagne. I think the lasagne would be significantly better with 1/2 or even 1/3 the amount of sauce that was used. This dish was tasty, but left me feeling abnormally full through the night, even though I had eaten only 2/3 of the non-sauce portion of the entree (I think it contributed to me waking in the middle of the night). My friend got the risotto with shrimp & scallops and the shrimp in particular were very tasty and the risotto was good except she thought it was excessively buttery. Went here with friends and I won't speak for everyone (pasta bar was so so) my meal was perfect, insanely good, everything I wanted it to be. I had the Chilean sea bass with farro and it was incredibly flavorful. Partner was pleased with their tomahawk steak as well. Ordered the $5 mozzarella bread for the table because when can you even get a $5 app anymore? Definitely worth it. Good wine, decent food, lukewarm experience - i wish I could rate it higher. I had made a reservation a few weeks in advance as I knew EVL would be full with skiers over MLK weekend. We got there right for our reservation and the place was PACKED. It was a buzzy atmosphere, with a big screen playing sports games and the bar full of patrons. The host told us that the people who had our table had their checks but weren't leaving - blaming the other patrons when I would later see why they were probably still at our table (spoiler: they probably were still waiting for their food!) I watched as multiple other tables were sat and even the manager trying to get people without a reservation a table. Finally, 20 minutes later we had a table. We ordered drinks and apps, then our waiter didn't take our entree order for another 20 minutes. We got a few appetizers, including the "focaccia" which definitely was not focaccia bread but it was still tasty. Then it was the waiting game - after arriving at 7:30, we ultimately didn't receive our food until 9:30 PM. There was no "sorry for the wait" or "your food is on its way!" Went there with a couple friends as we were in town for a weekend getaway. we believed the prices were more expensive than the food was worth. We ordered the meatball appetizer which was really good and the sauce made want to try the chicken parm instead of their fish fry. Two of us ordered the chicken and our chicken was dry and the edges were burnt. Our sauce had a different sauce than our appetizer and very little of it on there. Server was very attentive, checking on us regularly and really knowing the food. Nice ambiance you get a little bit of the feeling being in the alps - in a Swiss Chalet (" Hütte") - so we loved it. Food was excellent. We started with the Brussel sprouts- we just love the crispy way they done it. As a special they had Oysters on the menu so we took half a dozen- $2 for each - tastes wonderful. We ordered the house cab with some clams and the dipping bread. The clams were great and the dipping bread was a whole loaf! It was warm and delicious. I was invited out here by a couple of friends who happened to be performing on Villaggio's loft-stage in their acoustic duo that night. I'd been around Ellicottville but had absolutely no idea where Villaggio was, as I've only ever really traveled up and down Washington. This place is certainly tucked away nicely along Monroe, but once I allowed myself to actually notice this place, I absolutely fell in love! I'm told that the building was once an old barn, and it's painfully obvious when you step inside! This place has a beautiful layout, with dining space on the first floor and loft area up the stairs, with a full bar on the right hand side and barn aesthetics aplenty. We were seated at the table in the corner upstairs, by the stage. Our waitress was incredibly pleasant, even before we told her we were with the musicians performing and would be holding down our seats for the entire night. Dinner was pretty awesome! I originally wanted to order the Italian Pulled Pork Sandwich, but it was unavailable due to the pork not having been delivered (unprepared) until that day. So, instead I opted for the Signature Royal. I also had the chance to sample their Stuffed Banana Peppers. This place did not disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious! This place was quaint and has a very rustic vibe. It's a surprisingly large space too. They'd rated us in the middle of the restaurant under the string lights and it was really nice. We got their bread service which is literally an entire freshly baked unsliced white loaf with a knife stuck in it. I thought that was hilarious, order that if you want to have a spirited competition with your friends on who can cut the more regular slice of bread (spoiler: it's definitely not going to be me). Everyone around us was getting their famous tomahawk steak which looked delicious but my arteries definitely weren't ready, so I got the chicken Milanese instead and it was soooo good. A large group of Yelpers ventured over to Villaggio after an evening on the tubing hill at Holiday Valley Tubing Company. Unfortunately/fortunately, there wasn't anymore room at the "yelp table" for my brother, dad, and I so we sat nearby at our own table. Sadly the waitress was initially unaware we were there but as soon as she was alerted, she came right over. We all decided to split a bottle of white wine, as per her recommendation, and I personally enjoyed it very much. Appetizers were two-for-one on this particular Thursday evening so we decided to get the Risotto Sticks (crispy, lightly breaded with herbs, banana pepper, Italian sausage and Pecorino-Romano with spicy cream sauce) and the Antipasto (prosciutto, soppressata and the chef's house-made daily selection of salume with marinated olives, honey roasted garlic and select cheese with crostini). Boy, oh boy, both of these dishes were great! I particularly enjoyed the risotto sticks for the melt-in-your-mouth factor and the antipasto was also great as I am a huge fan of prosciutto. The bread and oil mixture that came out was bomb. Very, very good. I ordered the Ravioli caponata for my entree. These marvelous cheese filled pillows looked as great as they tasted. They were multicolored - super cool - and were filled with ricotta, mascarpone and herbs, served with marinara sauce and eggplant and olive caponata, basil and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. Ouh lala! Highly recommend. Villaggio is owned by the same person who owns Osteria 166 in Downtown Buffalo but I must say, I enjoy the ambiance of Villaggio. Awesome atmosphere and we sat right near the fireplace. I was much too full for dessert but everything I saw looked fantastic. The minor service hiccup at the beginning is why I am withholding the fifth star. I can see myself awarding this location five stars with another visit (and a sampling of their dessert!) After a long day of skiing at Holiday Valley, we stopped in for dinner at Ellicottville Brewing, but their wait was 90 minutes. So we walked over to Villagio. I'm so glad we did! This place is doing everything right. The atmosphere: there's a relaxed/trendy vibe going on. The acoustic guitarist playing in the upstairs lighted area was top notch. We loved him! We sat at the bar to wait for our table and had a few drinks. Which leads me to... The drinks: plenty of choices from the draft beer and wine lists, and loads of fun mixed drinks! We even did a shot ski (well, my shot was filled with water but I participated at lease, LAFF!!) The service was perfection: our server was funny, knowledgeable and always there right when we needed her. The owner stopped by once to say hello, and check on us. We felt very loved. I saved the best for last, THE FOOD-- after all, we came to Mangia :) We started with the bruschetta. It had all the components you'd expect, plus a fun little white bean spread. I enjoyed the winter salad (Concord grape vinaigrette was perfection), Spaghetti with Sunday sauce and some nibbles of my husband and friend's meals. We tried a couple appetizers which included the Stuffed Risotto Sticks and the calamari salad (awesome dressing and flavors). Both were good choices along with a nice bottle of red wine. Whoever is cooking at this restaurant needs to not cook. We had the worst dining experience ever last night. First, the food itself: I ordered the seabass and it came out over cooked, hard and very chewy. Basically not edible. Which is a shame because it's usually a delicious fish. Then I got the salmon and asked for it to not be over cooked (given the seabass experience). It came out so over cooked that it had no flavor and was very dry. Again, not edible. I ate around the sides and left the salmon. I didn't have the heart to send back a second entree (nor did I want to wait more after what was now two hours into my dining experience). My friend got the steak salad. There were literally very three small pieces of steak on top of romaine lettuce with some shredded cheese. That's it. Several of my girlfriends got the eggplant malanaise and only one of them was able to eat it all. The others complained that it was over cooked and lacked flavor. Now the service: Our waiter never brought us bread for the table. We asked multiple times. Our water was never refilled. He took our drink order once and never asked if we wanted a second round. He never asked us about dessert. We asked for the check, waited 20 minutes, saw it sitting by his stand and walked over to get it ourselves. The only reason this place gets a star are all, is because the manager was kind and apologized (without us complaining) and comped us the food that we did not eat. That being said, we didn't come out for a "free" meal. We came out to enjoy a meal. It was very disappointing that the food, multiple different entrees, is all not edible. I hope that they can find a chef that know how to properly cook food or remove items from the menu that require skill in cooking and just be a pasta bar (not that their pasta is all that great but at least there's less room to ruin that). read more
