Horrible experience at the Johns Hopkins Community Physicians in Urbana. Staff is rude and unprofessional. I am getting over a cold so they asked me to mask, which I can understand. But then they isolated me in a separate room with a large industrial grade hepa filter and basically treated me like a leper. Seems to be a huge over reaction as we are not in any kind of pandemic. They were extremely rude and irritated when I asked them about it. Additionally, when I was sick over the last 2 weeks, they refused to see me, couldn't get a sick appointment. Requested to see the manager during my visit today and was told prior to the visit that he would be there and it would be no problem to meet with him. Of course he wasn't there when I was there. Practice is poorly managed with rude staff and poor communication. Would not recommend this practice. read more

I really like the new office! You're given a 'room card' as soon as you check in. So there is no sitting in the lobby as you do with other locations. So do you sit around hopelessly waiting in the examination room you ask? No, you're seen within minutes by the nurse (I'm sure there is a better term to use but I'm British) Who takes your vitals and takes your wait via the bench that you lay upon. Kudos for this as you don't have to see how fat you are. Tara (the Doctor) is very polite although she reminds me of a Victoria Wood mainstray actor. My wife thinks I'm insane and very wrong for mentioning this. Celia Imrie anyone? She is friendly and knowledgeable and actually cares about you. Not just about your current ailments but about you. Some doctors seems more about seeing the number of patients rather than helping them. Celia I mean Tara cares. The receptionist is cool too. We chatted but I didn't get your name. She friendly and efficient, Nothing to complain about, probably the best doctor visit I've had the USA. read more

These guys are an insurance fraud. I had my annual physical with them and they asked me one question about another health issue that I have another doctor that monitors it. I told them that over and over again. So they converted the annual physical to another type of appointment so I would be charged. What a bunch of scammers. read more

The John Hopkins Community Physicians practice in Urbana has been very unethical in treating patients. I do not recommend this practice since they are very difficult to work with and will charge you for treatments that you are not aware of or will charge you without your authorization for the treatment. My doctor retired in Dec 2021, so I tried to establish care with JH Community Physicians to set up an annual preventive visit for Nov 2022. The Appointment Office told me that I needed to see the doctor first as a new patient before they could schedule an annual preventive visit appointment. The Appointment Office told me they would schedule me for a new patient appointment in July 2022 so I could be scheduled for my annual preventative visit in Nov 2022. I showed up for my new patient appointment on July 8, 2022. After the visit, I got the billing statement and it included both the new patient setup and the annual preventive visit, despite being told that the appointment was only a new patient visit. My insurance would not pay for the annual preventive visit since it was not due until November 2022, which is exactly why I planned on doing the preventative visit in November rather than July. I called the billing department multiple times between August to November 2022 to resolve the issue since I was explicitly told the preventive check would not be performed in July's visit. No one in Billing was able to help me. They said I had received the preventive visit so I have to pay for it, despite me never being told this or authorizing this. I asked to escalate the issue and the billing department referred me to Patient Relations, who have been excruciatingly unresponsive. You can only leave a voicemail with Patient Relations or email them, you cannot speak to anyone directly when you call. They have yet to return my calls, despite their voicemail recording stating they will return calls within 48 hours and the fact that I have left a couple voicemails. In early December 2022, I finally emailed Patient Relations and received a respond. They asked me to wait and will call me back within a week but again no one call. I finally got another email last week telling me they were actively working on the case and would continue working on it into 2023. Then all of the sudden, the bill was sent to a debt collector. I'm very upset and disappointed that I wasn't notified before sending the bill to debt collector since this is an active case and I have being told that Patient Relations is working to resolve the billing issue. The John Hopkins Community Physicians practice needs to be clearer in explaining their policies for new patients. Was the appointment office correct when they told me that the first visit is only for establishing new patient care, or did they mislead me due to their own lack of understanding of practice policies? Alternatively, was the doctor not aware of the policy that new patient visits are separate from annual preventive visits? Either way, neither of those failures is my responsibility as a patient, yet I have to pay for a treatment (that is normally covered by insurance) solely because of the poor communication, unclear policies, and mistakes of this practice. read more
