John was an absolute pleasure to work with. He showed up 10 minutes earlier than his appointment time, was very thorough on his inspection (including pointing things out to me that he did not need to check). John spent about an hour or so going through the house and I followed him through the whole time. When we would come across an issue he would explain to me why it was an issue, possible problems both short term and long term that it could create. He also explained me why certain things were done in the house (possibly to save money, etc.). He also pointed out the areas that the builder went above and beyond. Overall I was vey impressed with John's knowledge, ability to explain things to someone who does not have a lot of experience in building and his ability to make the whole experience very enjoyable. After reading reviews I went with John instead of a coworker's recommendation and I couldn't be happier that I did! He knows building and fire code by heart. He is a walking encyclopedia of knowledge about all things home. He looked at a tree branch leaning on the house and told me that probably meant woodland creatures were in the attic and sure enough he was right. He estimated the age of the roof correctly. He noticed tiny chips in the sink exposing cast iron which makes the sink unsanitary. His report included pictures and recommendations for how to proceed. HE MISSED NOTHING. If you need your home inspected don't give your money to anyone else. For the same money you pay someone else, you could get John. read more

At first, we were beyond pleased to have found John while looking for a home inspector. The fact that his services included a stucco inspection made us extremely happy since buying a house was already becoming so costly. Although John was extremely nice and arrived promptly, he only took an hour and a half to do the home inspection. I have personally never heard of a home inspection taking less than 3 hours, but that is simply my opinion. Right after moving into the home, my fiancée, 5 week old daughter, and I all became rather sick. When finishing up putting some new siding on our house, we found massive amounts of black mold. After that was taken care of and removed, we have been feeling much better. Our number one concern about buying a home was if it had mold, seeing as how I am extremely sensitive and become very sick if exposed to it. We specifically kept asking him if the house had mold. In short, he responded with "every single house will have mold spores, but I don't see any major mold problems". He says to have used an ultrasonic moisture meter and IR thermometer on all parts of the house. Maybe if we had spent the extra money to have an inspection done by someone who performed infrared thermography that can more clearly identify moisture damage that causes mold, we would not have had this problem. Next time, we won't be cheap about something so serious. Although I do believe John is a good and honest person, I wish he had taken more time to inspect our 1,600 sq ft, 3 level home. If he had found the mold, we never would have purchased this house and would have been saved a lot of stress and money. Aside from not finding the mold, he did provide us with a very detailed and thorough report that evening of the other issues he did find which the seller ended up fixing. If you wish to have a brief and reasonably priced inspection followed by a detailed report, John is your guy. If you are wanting an extremely thorough inspection with the best, upgraded technology, I politely suggest looking elsewhere. Overall, John was as great guy, but not thorough enough for us. *****Note: my four-star review is based on the amount of time he took during the inspection and our overall feelings during the inspection. I am not placing the blame of the mold on John. I am simply saying that I wish the technology was more advanced so that we never encountered these issues. If we were ever buying a brand new home that had no risk of having mold, I would definitely use John again. He did find all of the issues that the house had that weren't up to code, and also found a few key electrical issues that were thankfully fixed. In the end, he probably saved us much more money than the mold repairs ended up costing us. read more

Very professional, well certified and personable. Arrived 10 mins early and took time going through and educating about all concerns and maintenance. His report was sent over a few hrs after the inspection which is extremely timely. I have heard about other major companies with delay on this, and reports with multiple pages of "fluff". John Mease has inspected two homes for us and two for my family as well. I have seen other inspectors reports with long detailed summaries and pretty pictures but no substance. With John, you won't get that. You will get a report that has actual substance over style with major issues identified that other inspectors may pass over. John is very thorough but really focuses on structural, electronic, and issues he knows will cost money short and long term. For me, this is the most important part of an inspection. He does also now use infrared camera to check for any moisture or leaks. John has a structural engineering background and I like that he explains the problems to you and also talks through the potential impact without being an alarmist. In summary, if you just want a pretty report that talks about the scratch they found on the cabinets with pictures, John is not your guy. But if you want an inspector who really focuses on issues that could make your home a money pit, with a summary report of those issues plus the minor ones than John is the man.
